Nashville recording artist and country singer-songwriter Whey Jennings reveals his sophomore album, Baptized By Firearriving everywhere digitally on March 27, 2026 by Dirt Rock Empire.Baptized By Fire finds the Jennings family disciple writing and singing more songs about his own life's journey as a traveling troubadour, father, and man of God who was saved in 2020 during the pandemic from a life of drug and alcohol addiction.Reflecting his artistic ambitions, Jennings co-wrote several of the songs from first time songwriting sessions with Jim "Moose" Brown (Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Jimmy Buffett), Tyler Booth (Josh Turner), and Whey's second duet with The Voice's breakout country recording artist Karen Waldrup. Balanced out with heartfelt ballads, honky-tonk rockers Baptized By Fire is a well-rounded album of songs rooted in traditional country, blues, with some notable Americana vibes in style and instrumentation.Jennings and his co-writers' expertly crafted lyrics are combined with top-tier production from Producer Gary Carter (Kenny Chesney, Marty Stuart, Alan Jackson) and his team, recording the tracks at Danny Parks Long Hollow Studio and his own GC studio. Guitar work comes from Grand Ole Opry band member Danny Parks, piano and organs by Mike Rojas (Ricky Skaggs, Hank Williams Jr.), a multi-winner of ACM's Keyboard Player of the Year award, acoustic guitar by Joel Key (Cody Johnson, Thomas Rhett, and Toby Keith), steel guitar by Gary Carter, fiddle by Deanie Richardson (Del McCoury Band, Hank Williams Jr., Marty Stuart) and percussion by Garth Justice (Ricky Skaggs, Reba McEntire, Jo Dee Messina)."This album is close to my heart and I've never felt more at home with my music as I do now," Jennings said. "If you want to know who I really am as a person, the songs on this album present an open window to both my heart and soul as a songwriter."Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Real Life This week's episode begins the way many of our weeks began: confused, slightly annoyed, and one hour short on sleep thanks to the time change. Ben kicks things off by voicing what everyone is feeling — daylight saving time is rough. Losing an hour never gets easier, and the collective fog hangs over the whole episode like a mild but persistent headache. Devon isn't exactly escaping the chaos either. Between a hockey game down in Louisiana and spring break activities with the kids, his schedule is all over the place. Add the time shift on top of that and it's a miracle anyone is awake enough to record. Ben quickly pivots into defending Starfleet Academy, which he insists is a "tremendously good show." According to him, the loudest critics clearly aren't watching it. During the conversation Steven realizes he somehow made it this far in life without fully understanding what the Omega Particle is, which becomes a small but hilarious rabbit hole. Meanwhile the group grumbles about the Voyager game releasing day-one DLC — a move that feels more than a little gross. Steven brings a literary palate cleanser to the table. After wrestling with the famously labyrinthine House of Leaves, he recommends another unsettling architectural mystery: Strange Houses by Uketsu. If eerie homes and unsettling mysteries are your thing, it might be worth checking out here: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/strange-houses-uketsu/1146276773 Ben contributes a strange internet gem called Pricemaster, a bizarre and hypnotic video that quickly becomes one of those "you just have to see it" moments during the episode. If you want to experience the same confusion we did, you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/CUmmxW7Ksc8?si=6s1IRr2FuGy72Zo8 Devon then unveils the real headline of the Real Life segment: a brand-new guitar amp. He picked up a Fender Mustang GTX 100, and the excitement level is off the charts. The amp includes digital modeling, built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity, and an accompanying app that lets him endlessly tweak tones. Devon is talking about it so much that it raises a bigger question — he actually sold a guitar to buy the amp. If you know Devon, that's a shocking development. Future or Now Ben kicks off this segment with a fascinating animated project called Arco, produced by Natalie Portman. The story follows a ten-year-old boy from the year 2932 who isn't supposed to time travel yet. Naturally, he steals a time-travel cape and gemstone, aiming for the age of dinosaurs… and instead crash-lands in the year 2075. There he meets a girl named Iris and her robot nanny, and the unlikely trio may be the only ones who can prevent a global catastrophe. You can read more about the project here: https://collider.com/arco-streaming-online-natalie-portman/ Devon brings a science question that sounds simple but gets weird fast: why aren't mammals as colorful as reptiles, birds, or fish? If you look around the animal kingdom, mammals mostly stick to browns, blacks, and muted tones. The explanation has a lot to do with fur structure and evolutionary pressures — bright pigments are much easier to display in feathers, scales, and bare skin than in thick mammalian fur. The article that sparked the discussion is here: https://www.livescience.com/animals/why-arent-mammals-as-colorful-as-reptiles-birds-or-fish Steven rounds out the segment with something even stranger — humans secretly have stripes. Not visible stripes, unfortunately, but real biological patterns called Blaschko's lines. These lines emerge from the way skin cells divide and migrate during development. Under certain lighting conditions or medical circumstances, these patterns can actually appear, meaning everyone is walking around with hidden tiger stripes or cow-like patterns built into their skin. You can read more about that discovery here: https://www.sciencealert.com/humans-actually-have-secret-stripes-and-other-strange-markings Book Club Next week's reading is "What We Mean When We Talk About the Hole in the Bathroom" by Angela Liu, a title that raises several questions before you even start the story. If you want to read ahead with us, you can find it here: https://www.uncannymagazine.com/article/what-we-mean-when-we-talk-about-the-hole-in-the-bathroom/ This week the group dives into "Presence" by Ken Liu, which you can read here: https://www.uncannymagazine.com/article/presence/ The story centers on an elderly parent living abroad and the adult children trying to care for them remotely through telepresence technology. The discussion quickly expands beyond the story itself. The hosts talk about the stark contrast between elder care in America and in other countries where multi-generational households are more common. That leads into a broader conversation about American individualism — the cultural idea that success means leaving home, chasing opportunity, and building an independent life. While that independence can open doors, it also creates distance and sometimes loneliness. The technology in the story doesn't feel like science fiction for long. Telepresence robots and remote caregiving systems are already approaching the level shown in the story. The real question isn't whether the technology works — it's whether it can truly replace the sense of community and presence that people lose when families scatter across the world. It's a thoughtful and surprisingly emotional conversation that leaves everyone wondering what responsibility looks like in a world where being physically present isn't always possible.

Welcome to another episode of How Did I Get Here? From The Vault! Today, we go back to episode 1428 on September 20, 2024 with Vicki Peterson (Bangles, Continental Drifters) and Sean Kelly discussing Sean's book, White Noise & Lightning: The Continental Drifters Story about legendary band Continental Drifters. We talk about the Drifter's operatic story, where they are now, the band's connections to Austin, and much more.  Below are my original notes from the show. Musician and author of White Noise & Lightning: The Continental Drifters Story, Sean Kelley and Continental Drifter and Guitar player of The Bangles, Vicki Peterson are my guests for episode 1428. White Noise & Lightning: The Continental Drifters Story follows ten disparate musicians from humble beginnings at a dive bar residency in Los Angeles through lineup changes, addiction, marriages, divorces, and industry letdowns. The Continental Drifters, composed of members of The Bangles, The Cowsills, The Dream Syndicate, The dB's, and more, found each because they'd been burned by the music industry and sought refuge in a freewheeling environment where they could experiment without constraint. When everything fell apart in New Orleans a decade later, they ended up with so much more. White Noise & Lightning: The Continental Drifters Story Drops next Friday, Sept. 27 along with We're All Drifters: A Tribute To The Continental Drifters, a 2 CD tribute album featuring Marshall Crenshaw, Kim Richey, Rosie Flores and more. Find the book HERE. We have a great conversation about the book, the journey of the Continental Drifters and more. I had a blast getting to know Vicki and Sean. I'm sure you will too. Let's get down! Designed for guitarists at all levels, this month focuses on helping you improvise with intention, rather than just “noodling” around without direction. What's Inside This EpisodeNew Theme for March: Improvisation MonthEach week, you'll get a step-by-step blueprint for improving your improvisation skills, whether you're a total beginner or already experimenting with improvising. This Week's Focus: Control and Stopping the NoodlingPaul Andrews explains why improvisation isn't just about learning more scales or licks; it's about developing control—timing, note choice, phrasing, space, and articulation. The difference between mindless noodling and intentional, musical improvisation. The Power of ConstraintsLimiting yourself to just three notes may feel backward, but it actually forces you to think creatively.Constraints help you improve rhythm, tone, phrasing, and dynamics while making every note count.Weekly ChallengePick any scale you know and select just three notes from it.Improvise over a backing track using only these notes, focusing on rhythm, phrasing, and dynamics.Beginners should focus on creating a melody and playing with rhythm.More advanced players can add lead guitar techniques, but still stick to the three-note limit for maximum creative growth.Additional Resources in the AcademyEach week, members of the Beginner Guitar Academy community get a dedicated challenge, coaching, and Q&A support.Consider joining for extra resources and personalized feedback.Quick LinksSign up for a 2-week trial of Beginner Guitar Academy for just $1!Check out the Academy Show for the latest news and member shoutoutsBrowse past episodes and show notes at www.bgapodcast.comNext UpWeek 2: Musical AwarenessWeek 3: Rhythm & PhrasingWeek 4: ExpressionTakeawayReady to break the cycle of aimless noodling? British pedal steel guitar legend BJ Cole joins me on the show today. BJ is a masterful steel player - very inventive and textural but with incredible chops and skills as well. He's amassed an incredible body of solo work over the years, but has also been the top call steel session player in the UK for decades. He had a very solitary musical start, but got into country bands in England and eventually started gigging and playing sessions. Things changed for BJ when he got called to play steel on Elton John's “Tiny Dancer” in 1971. He laid down some very tasty and memorable steel parts on that hit, and the phone started ringing big time. BJ has played on records and toured with an incredible array of artists like Joan Armatrading, Marc Bolan, KD Lang, Beck, Bjork, Sting, John Cale, Brian Eno and many more. He's also always written and recorded his own music and collaborations, which have been all over the place musically and are a great way to delve into his musical brain. There's a new collab with cellist Emily Burridge - cello and steel duets that's really cool, and his solo albums like Transparent Music, The New Hovering Dog, Trouble in Paradise - all great albums well worth checking out. We get into all it, plus some seriously nerdy pedal steel talk. You can keep up to date on BJ's latest projects and tours at bjcole.co.ukEnjoy my conversation with BJ Cole! This season is brought to you by our main sponsors Larivée Guitars, Audeze, Izotope, FabFilter, and Chase Bliss. 40 Indiana guitar pioneers every Hoosier should know: South Bend, Indiana's Willie Woods

    Cultural Manifesto

Listen to the latest installment in our ongoing series, “40 Indiana guitar pioneers every Hoosier should know.” The series explores the music and history of Indiana guitarists who made lasting contributions to American music — some world famous, others lesser known.  This time, we focus on South Bend guitarist Willie Woods, best known for his work with Jr. Walker & the All Stars. When their 1965 hit “Shotgun” climbed the charts, listeners heard the blazing saxophone of Junior Walker. But beneath that horn was Woods' tight, percussive guitar. Born in Louisiana in 1936, Woods moved to South Bend as a child, where he became active in the city's R&B scene during the 1950s. Initially known as a singer, he joined a band formed by his longtime friend, drummer Billy “Stix” Nicks, and saxophonist Junior Walker. Determined to contribute more fully to the group's sound, Woods taught himself guitar and soon became the band's permanent guitarist. The group, then known as the Jumping Jacks, performed throughout northern Indiana and southern Michigan before relocating to Battle Creek, Michigan. The band attracted the attention of singer, songwriter, and label executive Harvey Fuqua. In 1962, they made their first recordings and adopted the name Jr. Walker & the All Stars. Soon after, they signed with Motown Records, achieving international success with “Shotgun.” Woods appeared on the group's first two Motown albums, Shotgun and Soul Session. By the late 1960s, Woods left the All Stars and returned to the Midwest. In the early 1970s, he performed with the Battle Creek funk band The Apaches, writing their cult-classic 1972 single “Trying to Make Ends Meet.” Willie Woods died of lung cancer in 1997 at age 60, two years after Junior Walker's passing. Though he was rarely in the spotlight, Woods helped define the early sound of Jr. Walker & the All Stars. His rhythm guitar provided the foundation that allowed Walker's saxophone to soar.

Today's episode of The Rizzuto Show starts with Moon casually announcing he's selling HALF HIS LIFE on Reverb like it's no big deal. Guitars, pedals, touring memorabilia, signed band merch — basically, if you've ever wanted to own a piece of pop-punk history (or just something Moon once accidentally stepped on), today's your lucky day. The man partnered with Reverb for an official artist shop launch, and yes, it's legit. Chicago-based. Fancy. Organized. Unlike this show. Then we pivot — violently — into the debut of The Riz Quiz, a rapid-fire trivia showdown that proved two things:People absolutely panic when asked simple questions.Kevin might secretly be a robot programmed for suburban dad knowledge.Contestants battled it out in a 60-second gauntlet of questions covering everything from St. Louis landmarks and sports teams to pop culture chaos like Wakanda, SpongeBob, and the boiling point of water (which, by the way, is apparently controversial now). We had ties. We had confusion. We had people muting their phones with their cheeks. It was beautiful.Kevin threw down a 12-point performance that had the studio stunned. Then Matt matched it. THEN Andrew matched it. The tension was real. The chat was furious. Moon questioned science center technicalities. King Scott started auditing answers like he works for the Department of Trivia Accuracy. And when given the opportunity to risk it all and win every prize — Finger Eleven tickets, Young the Giant tickets, and Point Fest passes — Kevin… took the safe route. A bold strategy for a daily comedy show built on questionable decisions. We roasted him appropriately. You'll also hear debate about St. Louis City SC naming semantics, mild outrage over freezing points, and the realization that pressure makes even smart people forget Jupiter exists. If you love competitive chaos, local pride, pop culture trivia, and watching grown adults argue over area codes, this daily comedy show delivers. It's fast, it's sarcastic, and it's proudly unhinged in the most lovable way.Missed it live on 105.7 The Point in St. Louis? Good news. This daily comedy show travels with you.
