Static Temptations – Lucid Machines feels like a transmission picked up between sleep and circuitry, where human memory starts to hum like a server farm dreaming in slow motion. The album lives in a world where thoughts don't stay inside the mind anymore. They leak outward as sound, spinning into analog static and crystalline digital pulses. Vocals drift like half-remembered conversations you swear you had in a room that doesn't exist anymore, while the instrumentation constantly flickers between warmth and machine logic. Guitars feel slightly detuned on purpose, like they've been left out in an electromagnetic storm. Synth layers rise and collapse in shimmering cycles, sometimes behaving like rhythm, sometimes like weather. Drums are tight but never fully obedient, as if the tempo is being negotiated rather than commanded. Beneath it all, there's a faint mechanical heartbeat, not threatening, just aware. Lyrically and sonically, Lucid Machines explores the moment consciousness becomes self-aware inside repetition. Dreams trying to debug themselves. Love messages encoded in corrupted files. Identity refracted through interfaces that almost understand you but never fully resolve. By the time the final track fades, nothing feels fully “awake” or fully “asleep” anymore. Just somewhere in between, where static becomes language and machines start to feel uncomfortably close to remembering.

Using the latest Fender Musical Instruments Corporation controversies as a launching point, the conversation explores where legitimate brand protection ends and where corporate overreach begins. But this episode goes deeper than legal analysis. Cody and Jon also examine the theological and ethical foundations behind these actions: What does biblical justice look like in business? Can companies truly “own” shapes and designs that have become part of culture itself? And how should Christians think about property rights, competition, imitation, and stewardship in a market shaped by both creativity and commerce?Whether you're a guitarist, builder, gear nerd, or just interested in the intersection of theology and culture, this conversation tackles the deeper worldview questions underneath the headlines.Subscribe on iTunes, Spotify, Overcast, and YouTube.Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and X.Join the discussion at the Westminster Effects Green Room.Buy your guitar effects at westminstereffects.com.

On this episode of Talking Guitars on Johnny Beane TV, we dive into a major story shaking up the guitar world. Fender is finally speaking out about its controversial cease-and-desist strategy involving Stratocaster-style guitars — and the company says it's not targeting every double-cutaway guitar after all. Using a detailed Guitar World article, we break down Fender's legal battle, what the company's real endgame might be, and how this could change the future of the guitar industry forever. Fender says it's focused on stopping exact Stratocaster copies, not innovation, and may even work directly with builders to make small design changes instead of forcing guitars off the market entirely. We also discuss the backlash from the guitar community, the role of attorney Ron Bienstock, possible design elements Fender may be protecting beyond just the body shape, and what happens next as the June 8 deadline approaches. Could this redefine the future of S-style guitars? Watch now and join the conversation. #Fender #Stratocaster #TalkingGuitars #JohnnyBeaneTV

Performance and Works used with permission from the artist and venue. Founded in Chicago and Led by Bassist Kevin Robert Martinez, Reclamation Band is modern jazz with an open rural backdrop. Its unique combination of composed and improvised elements evokes an array of moods and styles such as Americana, Avante-Garde and Blues. A number of things make this group's sound unique. The first is the equal division between a guitar and two saxophone leads versus a rhythm section that includes Bass and Bass Clarinet along with drums. I'm a sucker for the Bass Clarinet sound and Kevin really understands how to leverage that sound in a way few other composers do. The second is that the group functions more as a versatile collective than as a fixed unit. Some configurations exchange a saxophone for a trumpet while others exclude guitar. Kevin took eight months off from the band before regrouping for a tour in support of their recent release These Roads and the new material shines as a result. Featuring Kevin Martinez on Bass, Anthony Tadeo on Percussion, Dan Bruce on Guitar, Tony Spicer on Bass Clarinet, Chris Coles on Alto Saxophone and Tim McDonald on Tenor Saxophone, and from a July 19th, 2025 performance it's the Reclamation Band…Live at the Bop Stop. In recent years there has been lots of news about long-lost guitars that were once in the hands of a Beatle either being rediscovered or put up for sale, often going for hundreds of thousands of dollars if not in seven figures. Each one of these instruments has a story: when it was acquired, what songs was it used on, what became of it after a Beatle had moved on from it. At one point, in a Beatle's hands, each one of these guitars was a tool of discovery: they labored to uncover what sounds they could coax out of it and where they could apply those sounds to freshly-composed compositions that became recordings that we love.  My guest Sam Popkin (Gear, There and Everywhere podcast) and I run down a sampling of these guitars, recently auctioned at Julien's and elsewhere, to discover what it was that attracted their owners to them in the first place and how their sounds went on to become part of the soundtrack of our lives.

He's thoughtful because what he brings to a song is expressive and intentional with generous amounts of feeling. He's adaptive because over the decades he's taken to instruments new to him and been put in situations where his chops are counted on sometimes in the spur of the moment. He's well versed in a number of genres and whatever the scenario calls for, Ryan delivers. He's the "sixth member" of The Willy Porter Band and could very well be the secret sauce of The Willy Porter Quartet. The voices of the late"England Dan" Seals and his duo partner John Ford Coley will be reunited for the first time since 1980 fora memorable, new edition of "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight,"arriving May 8.Their classic hit celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in May 2026 and was recently ranked in the"Top 50 Love Songs of All Time"(Billboard).Written by Parker McGee, "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" was first released in1976 and appeared on the pop / rock duo's Gold-Certified album, Nights Are Forever. Though the pair initially were hesitant to record the song, the hit marked a major turning point in their career, reaching No.1 onBillboard's Easy Listening and No. 2 on the Hot 100 charts. The monumental new track will feature an exclusive music video with never-before-seen clips of Seals and Coley together once again, honoring the duo's most popular tune. "Some songs seem to take on a life of their own," says John Ford Coley, adding, "the song 'I'd Really Love to See You Tonight' seems to be one of those iconic songs. Dan and I have not sung together since 1980, and it's interesting that the song that appears to have brought us back together was the one that launched our career as a duo. It never occurred to me that this song would still be as big today as it was 50years ago." "I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" will appear on Dan Seals & Friends: The Last Duet, releasing August 28.Coley still performs across the globe as a well-respected solo artist and has appeared with top musicians Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Lou Gramm, Stephen Bishop, and many more. Most of the stars in the Milky Way orbit the center of the galaxy in the same direction as all the other stars around them, and at about the same speed. But a few follow their own paths. An example is a star at the tip of the Guitar Nebula. The nebula is a bubble of gas with an outline that resembles a guitar. It’s in Cepheus, which is low in the north at nightfall. The king’s brightest stars form an outline that resembles a child’s drawing of a house. Don’t look for the nebula, though – it’s so faint that it wasn’t discovered until 1992. The guitar was sculpted by a pulsar – the crushed corpse of a mighty star. It spins once every two-thirds of a second, emitting a beam of energy that sweeps past Earth on each turn. The pulsar was born when the star exploded as a supernova. The explosion must have been off-center, so it gave the dead core a powerful kick. The pulsar is plowing through clouds of gas and dust at almost two million miles per hour. It leaves an expanding wake behind it, like a ship traveling across the ocean. That wake is what we see as the Guitar. But there’s more to the nebula than meets the eye. X-ray telescopes in space reveal a long, high-speed “jet.” It’s firing away from the tip of the nebula at a right angle to the nebula itself. The jet most likely is powered by the pulsar’s magnetic field, which funnels charged particles away from the pulsar – an interesting note from a celestial guitar. Script by Damond Benningfield

The singer-songwriter Valerie June has a gift for writing contemporary songs that feel timeless and as though they could also have existed at various points across the past century. Her expansive layering of Appalachian folk, Delta blues, gospel, soul, early country, and even spiritual jazz, at once down to earth and dreamy, has drawn appreciation from the likes of Bob Dylan, Norah Jones, and Mavis Staples, and for good reason. In true folk tradition, the Grammy-nominated June views her work in one long, multigenerational continuum of American songwriting and storytelling, both ancient and urgent. Not one to chase hits or rush her process, she revels, instead, in a slow, patient devotion to her craft, as her latest album, Owls, Omens, and Oracles, puts on full display. On this episode of Time Sensitive, June discusses songs as vessels capable of preserving and transporting us to once-in-a-lifetime moments, music-making as a mystical act, and the value of prioritizing gradual progress over instant results.  Special thanks to our Season 13 presenting partner, L'ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts. Joey Bradford of The Used is back on The Tone Mob, and this one wanders through the good stuff: touring, dad life, studio rabbit holes, guitar rigs, loud amps, weird pedals, and the eternal human illness known as “maybe I need one more piece of gear.” Blake and Joey talk about what it's like to spend a massive chunk of the year on the road, then come home and try to be a normal dad like you didn't just spend the last several months vibrating in a bus bunk. They also get into Joey's home studio, producing bands, experimenting with sounds, and why sometimes the ugly little noise in the corner is exactly what the song needs. There's plenty of gear talk, of course, because this is still The Tone Mob and we have paperwork to maintain. Digital rigs, real amps, analog pedals, guitars that multiply when no one is looking, and the quiet thrill of walking into a music store for “just a patch cable” all make an appearance. But the bigger theme is this: rock music is not dead. It was never dead. It was just out in the garage with a half-dead cable, a loud amp, and a kid learning a riff that might ruin somebody's afternoon in the best possible way. Support The Show And Connect! Your wallet and the planet will both thank you. Promote Celtic culture through music at http://celticmusicpodcast.com/. Asa Swain commented on Patreon: "I like hearing you talk, but thanks for releasing a "music only" version for everyone. I appreciate it." woodland folk replied to question, "how does the podcast make your life better?": I listen to ur podcast on my phone. on my closed fiddle case, mingled with birdsong, gentle hissing wood, the sun comes up early over the Mendips.the wind is still fresh...
