What's up, dudes? They're a legendary metal band whose songs were played all the time on MTV. Yes, we're talking Stryper! I've got the incredible Michael Sweet with me to talk about their 1984 singles “Reason for the Season” and “Winter Wonderland!” We also dive into their new album The Greatest Gift of All available this year in November. The boys lay down an eighth note riff in “Reason for the Season,” and modulate for the chorus. The song is full of their dual lead guitar, harmonized in 3rds for texture and interest. After coming to a rocked out climax, it ends with harmonics and acoustic and clean tone electrics. The tight vocal pads give an ethereal feeling contrasting with the previous heavy straightforward rock vibe.Released in December ‘84, the single had a Stryperized version of the classic “Winter Wonderland” as a B-side. This time the band gave the song a swing eighth-triplet riff. After some introductory dialogue, they launch into it, and segue nicely into a triplet dual lead solo. Uniquely, a turnaround transitions to an Elvis inspired bluesy half time rendition of the chorus. And now, this year the band has a new Christmas album! Stryper The Greatest Gift of All is full of classics and original tunes. From a lush and calming “Silent Night” to an uptempo “Joy to the World,” it has it all. The album even ends with re-recordings of their two ‘80s singles, updating them sonically and ending with a bang!Guitar? Check. Soaring vocals? Yep. Full on Stryper vibes? Definitely! So grab your axe, put on your Christmas pajamas, and rock out to this episode on Stryper The Greatest Gift of All!StryperFB: @StryperFB: @MichaelSweet IG: @StryperGive us a buzz! Lipps Service with Scott Lipps

On this episode of Lipps Service, Scott Lipps sits down with one of country's biggest acts and best guitarists today – Marcus King. Marcus and his band most recently released the LP Darling Blue, the band's first since 2018. They start by getting into the story behind his song “Cadillac,” meeting his wife, his Southern upbringing, musical heroes, and the early days of making music with his family. Marcus opens up about the trauma that shaped his songwriting, his faith, and the decision to leave school to pursue music, as well as his thoughts on Americana, keeping guitar music alive, and forming The Marcus King Band. He shares candid insights about working with other music greats such as Dan Auerbach, Dave Cobb, and Rick Rubin, while also discussing his struggles with mental health, microdosing, and his journey toward sobriety. The two explore the renaissance of honest rock 'n' roll, how old movies inspired his latest record, and his dream collaborations (and a few ghosting stories). The interview wraps with Marcus listing his top five guitarists and top five roots and Americana artists. Tune into a great and insightful chat with the legend – Marcus King! For more incredible rock 'n' roll interviews, hit the subscribe button, and also check out Lipps Service with Scott Lipps podcasts on Spotify, Apple, or your favorite podcast player.  CREDITS (Instagram handles) Host @scottlipps Produced by @whitakermarisa Edited by @toastycakes Music by @robbyhoff Recorded at Fringe Podcasts NYC  0:00:31 - “Cadillac” and how he met his wife 0:02:30 - Upbringing  0:04:00 - Music heroes 0:07:00 - Playing music with family 0:07:40 - Trauma that led to his songwriting 0:09:51 - Channeling emotions into music at a young age 0:10:45 - Faith 0:11:24 - Parents and decision to go into music 0:14:18 - Decision to leave school and pursue music0:18:00 - Americana0:20:00 - Keeping guitar music alive 0:21:40 - Going to LA for the first time 0:24:11 - Forming the Marcus King Band 0:25:55 - Working with Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys0:28;00 - Dave Cobb vs Dan Auerbach 0:28:45 - Rick Rubin 0:32:00 - Mental health 0:34:34 - Microdosing 0:35:20 - Notoriety, its challenges0:38:00 - Darling Blue0:41:45 - Collaborating process0:42:51 - Journey with sobriety 0:44:13 - Sobriety and rock bottom 0:45:00 - Renaissance of honest rock ‘n' roll 0:46:17 - Album recording process0:47:28 - Dream collaborators and getting ghosted 0:49:40 - Top 5 guitarists 0:54:24 - Top 5 roots, Americana, and country artists

Text us about this show. There are singer-songwriters and then there is Mathew Haeffel. It is truly hard to pin the singer-songwriter label on him because his original compositions go well beyond what you'd expect from an artist in that genre. Mathew is a songsmith who creates music in a way that a visual artist might create a striking painting. He specializes in juxtaposition, combining dark and light elements that contrast each other whether that be in his lyrics, instrumentation, or both. Often you will hear him sing pensive words over a lively beat, but listeners are often left with a bit of encouragement because of the way Mathew is able to bring the light out of the dark in his songs. A truly unique artist that is worth discovering."Didn't I" written and performed by Mathew Haeffel℗ 2010 Mathew Haeffel. The young Prince Edward arrives at The Temple Beautiful and complains to Richard about his uncles imprisonment. Richard tells him his uncles Rivers and Dorset were dangerous. Edward protests but is interrupted by the arrival of the Mayor of London who greets him with flattery. Edward asks about the whereabouts of his mother and brother, the Duke of York. Hastings arrives and tells Edward his mother and brother are in sanctuary. Buckingham orders Hastings to bring York to them by force. The Cardinal protests but Buckingham convinces him there's no need for sanctuary under these circumstances. Alone with his uncle Richard, Edward asks where he and his brother will be staying before their coronation. Richard tells him they're to stay in the Tower. Edward protests but is interrupted by the arrival of his younger brother. Little York teases Richard until he learns they're going to the Tower. He starts to argue but Edward tells him not to fear. They're taken away. Richard and Buckingham call in Catesby to test Hastings' loyalty. Once alone, Richard promises Buckingham the Earldom of Hereford. Later that night, a messenger from Stanley arrives at Barrington Hall to warn Hastings that Richard is going to kill him. Hastings reassures him that Richard won't harm him. Catesby arrives and hears from Hastings that he won't support Richard taking the throne, even though he had his enemies (Rivers and Dorset) killed. Stanley rolls up and warns Hastings not to trust Richard. Buckingham saunters out to meet them and takes them to the Tower for the coronation. Elsewhere, in a warehouse basement in Pomfret, Rivers begs for his life as Ratcliffe drowns him. The STUNT DOUBLE is on the road. Of course, no GEARZ project is truly completed without an accompanying guitar. So, Stacey has Anthony Sims from LUCKY DOG GUITARS in the shop to discuss the custom built six string. Anthony talks about how his love for music and playing live led to him and a group of buddies opening up a dance hall at 18 years old, how that led to building his first custom guitar and opening his small three-man shop in East Tennessee, and of course his two current automotive projects - a '68 Charger and an original DeLorean that he inherited from his grandfather who purchased TWO of them just before John Delorean's arrest.
