Informacje o podkaście, odcinkach i autorach: https://teologiazkatowic.pl Dzisiaj rozmawiamy o jedności Kościoła. Zapraszamy do udziału w charakterze słuchaczy i uczestników dyskusji. In Episode 17 of Season 3, Drew explores four epistemological frameworks (Rationalism, Empiricism, Foundationalism, and Coherentism) and how all of these are under sustained attack as a reliable way to discern truth. How can the church credibly maintain truth claims against this backdrop? Take a listen to find out. Billy Abraham Remembering Dr. Billy Abraham - Promoted to GloryTwo weeks ago, Dr. Billy Abraham was promoted to glory. He was a giant figure in the evangelical Wesleyan movement. Billy was on my doctoral dissertation committee, he endorsed my first book, and he was one of the first to push me toward the academy. On today's podcast, I have a conversation with Drs. Jason Vickers, David Watson, Justus Hunter, and Jerry Walls about Billy's influence as a teacher, scholar, friend, and champion of the church. YouTube - https://youtu.be/ZfHPO32aE7MBilly hit on major themes in his work when he endorsed my book Holistic Hospitality. Here's a little of what he said, “Without these [theological and spiritual] foundations, [which Andy presents] we simply lose heart and energy; with them, we are pulled into a world of divine action that can sustain a lifetime of grinding missionary action.” If today's podcast generates interest in Dr. Abraham's work, I recommend my audience read his book Waking from Doctrinal Amnesia. Dr. William J. Abraham of Southern Methodist University joins the PT crew to talk about all things theological and Methodist. This is part one of a multi-part interview. We're also joined by guest host Dr. Madeline Carrasco Henners of United Theological Seminary, who was subbing in for Maggie this time.
The United Methodist Church, America's second-largest Protestant denomination, seems likely to split this year — a decision to voted on at the denomination's General Conference this spring. One prominent plan would divide the UMC into at least two denominations — one adhering to historic Christian teaching, the other taking a "progressive" doctrinal stance. In this address, Professor William J. "Billy" Abraham, a proponent of "traditional" Methodist theology, says United Methodists face "a stark and inescapable choice" about the future of the Methodist movement. Dr. Abraham teaches at Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of the Theology, where he is the Albert Cook Outler Professor of Wesley Studies. His most recent book is Methodism: A Very Short Introduction (Oxford University Press, 2019). This address was recorded at the November 2019 gathering of the Wesleyan Covenant Association in Tulsa, Okla. It has been abridged slightly for use on this podcast. A magazine article adapted from Dr. Abraham's address is available here. If you have a comment or question about the Notable Speeches podcast, email feedback@notablespeeches.com.
