Today's episode is about one of the coolest plants that I can think of - both figuratively and literally! Stick with me for a moment. When you think of a parasite, what comes to mind? Maybe mosquitoes, ticks, tapeworms. Probably nothing you want to invite into your house or property. But there are parasites that are super beneficial to ecosystems. The parasite I'm speaking of is also the cool plant I alluded to. Well, it's actually a large category of parasitic plants. In fact, they've separately evolved on five different occasions. What are they?Well, mistletoes, of course! Dr. David Watson joins us all the way from Australia to talk about these spectacular plants. Today you'll learn why mistletoes are beloved by birds, provide food for many other animals, are key to nutrient cycling, and why they are literally cool plants. There are even mistletoes that grow on, get this, other mistletoes!Find Dr. David Watson on Bluesky. Does anyone know when Motown really started it, and who really started it. The music was influenced by the generations before, it's roots deep in Gospel Music and God. The two synonymous with each other, and one Band in particular Gladys Knight and The Pips can stake a claim to the title. There's so much more to the story and Lady Dhyana Ziegler knows more than most. As a child growing up in the family she saw first hand how the band grew, and how they handled their rise to fame. In her new book Midnight Train from Georgia Lady Dhyana Ziegler tells the story of arguably from of the most influential bands of their era. Midnight Train from Georgia https://a.co/d/4GDLIm3

In this episode I spoke with Robert Walker about his trilogy of books. A fictional story at the heart of a medieval fantasy. Is it good vs evil, or rich vs poor and we discus how corruption takes over good people and makes them do things they'd always sworn to protect. The nearly finished trilogy is filled with medieval battles and political corruption and takes the reader on a journey to somewhere not yet finished. Robert Walker https://rawalkerwriting.com

In today's episode I spoke with Michelle and we discussed her new book, The Lunatic and what happens when the protagonist gives up their social media. And is this a dilemma many of us have experienced. Do we feel like slaves to our phone, and are too afraid to put them down. The Lunatic delves into this dilemma, alongside the everyday life of someone who works in a book store. The broader scope of The Lunatic lies in the real world where many of us don't know if this is a problem, and what would friends and family think if we put our phones down and quit social media. In this episode, Dave once again shares at our Launch 25 gathering, this time focusing on the ‘soil' from which God births movements—the importance of movement values and our personal calling from God. Vision - where movements always start To begin, reflecting on movements seen in hard-to-reach areas, Dave invites an 81-year-old seasoned movement leader (unnamed for security reasons) to share his powerful experience of seeing over 40,000 churches planted across unreached regions of India. This unnamed movement leader highlights the first key characteristic of movement - a clear God-given vision. This vision begins with a personal encounter with God and the recognition that every aspect of life must be viewed from a kingdom perspective. Other movement values Dave then dives into the DNA of movements, such as rapid multiplication, leadership development, and the central role of prayer. Dave reflects on the example of David Watson in India, where movements started in historically unreached states, and how the Discovery Bible Study became a tool for leaders to explore God's word together. • Calling: Movements start with a personal call from God, as seen in the story of a leader in India who, after a deep personal encounter with God, saw over 100,000 churches planted through a group of men in a slum. • Team: Movements thrive when they work in teams, emphasising collaboration over individual leadership. • Multiplication: Rapid multiplication is key at all levels—churches, disciples, and leaders. • Prayer: Passionate, abundant prayer is foundational. Movements in India didn't break through until 100,000 people were praying for them. • Obedience-Driven Discipleship: Movements emphasise obedience to God's Word, which leads to personal and collective transformation. • Gift-Based Leadership: Leadership is function-based, not positional, empowering everyone to contribute according to their gifts. • Access Ministries: Creative approaches are used to access communities and meet needs in meaningful ways. The Three Worlds of Mission Dave breaks down the three primary worlds where mission takes place: 1. The Unreached World: Places like India, China, and Muslim regions where movements are taking root. 2. The Christian World: Countries like Uganda, PNG, and Russia, where resistance often comes from established church systems. 3. The Post-Christian World: Western nations (e.g. Europe, Australia), where mission work is harder due to secularism and cultural shifts. Three fundamental core values of movements 1. The Spirit: Movements are works of the Holy Spirit. We can't take credit for movements. It's all the Spirit turning up and working in people's lives. 2. The Word of God: The Word is number one. It isn't a commodity and we can't slice and dice it. Jesus himself is the Word and He spoke about it being planted in us (Parable of the Sower). We are transformed if we respond in obedience to God's Word. 3. Mission: If you follow Jesus, you're on mission. Jesus is God's mission and we find ourselves following him to the lost and broken. The DMM Wheel Dave shares about Pray, Go, Disciple and Multiply - what he calls the ‘DMM Wheel' which has been a helpful framework for walking out the essential values of movement. Personal Challenge Dave encourages us to examine our own hearts and consider the soil of our lives. How is God calling you, and what are the obstacles or distractions that may prevent you from following His call? The episode ends with a challenge to persevere in the race God has set before us, emphasising the importance of mentorship and being shaped by God's heart through prayer and obedience. May this talk encourage you to reflect on the deeper aspects of your heart as God invites us to join Him in bringing movements to life!
Today, we welcome Ryan Lee, Plant breeder, scientist, and 25-year friend of David Watson, aka Sam the Skunkman. Ryan and I connect while he is in Amsterdam helping the family. The conversation explores the legendary life of a cannabis silverback and hero. Sam the Skunkman lived 15 years in Santa Cruz, down the road from the Haze brothers, and is responsible for providing the foundation to all the seed banks in Amsterdam. His life's work is behind modern cannabis medicines from GW Pharmaceuticals. Ryan, who has also done amazing work in the cannabis genome, research, and industry, takes us on a fantastic voyage of a truly epic individual who was like a Forest Gump of sorts in Cannabis. David Watson lived every day to wake up and be happy, learn something new about cannabis, or teach and make some mischief.
In her book The Miles we run Alison explores the lessons from running a marathon and how this transfers to everyday life. The miles we run we is a personal account of surrogacy, being a mother and training for a marathon. During the podcast Alison and I discuss how writing a gratitude journal everyday has helped her through her life, and why it is more successful for some people and doesn't work as well for others. In her heartfelt memoir, Alison Beder Solway confronts the complexities she faced on her path toward motherhood, beginning with a near-death experience that led her to surrogacy. Throughout, she parallels the unwavering discipline required to train for and complete the New York City Marathon, underscoring the extraordinary endurance of the human spirit. Her raw and relatable experiences inspire us to reflect on our own “miles,” prompting introspection about the struggles we all face and the unseen fortitude they reveal. Today I spoke with Jack Moore, a man I'd describe as an expert on the John F Kennedy assassination, and lots of people claim to be an expert, and some, like Jack can back it up. You can read the books, you can speak to eye witnesses, even members of Congress. It takes more, and Jack has done the deep dive and what's more can with confidence explain why it was Lee Harvey Oswald who pulled the trigger. But Why? We know who did it, but why was JFK assassinated, and who was really the power behind the assassination. Jack Moore https://www.mooretoconsider.com/
Today returning guest Martin and I spoke about what is next in his 6 part series of books. Starting with Children of the Dying Hearth. We also discussed the state of the world today, and did our best to the world to rights. The worlds politics, the difference between the left and the right, is there really a difference. How literature has sculpted our culture and our history. We are not immune to the propaganda we accuse others of, and how the world seems to suffering from cognitive dissonance. Welcome back to Coffee & Change. On this special two part episode, under the banner number 151, I am flipping the script. After inviting and engaging in 150 conversations, I have the unique opportunity of being hosted by my friend and former guest, David Watson. He digs deep, asks the big questions, and puts me on the spot as I reflect on recording 5.68 days—that's 8,186 minutes—of content. To put that in perspective, if you started listening to every single episode of this podcast back-to-back, it would equate to listening to Taylor Swift's entire discography 6.5 times. (That's a lot of storytelling… or a lot of heartbreak anthems!) And I guess it is then only appropriate to title this episode Charting the Arc of Change Across the Eras. Enjoy the two part episode and reach out if you have any follow on questions.
This is the Part 2 Discussion continuation from my powerful conversation with David Watson. This story, my story, continues to evolve, and I want to thank you each for walking alongside me on this journey. Your listening, the very act of listening, changes the story. I appreciate you all.

Young children are more perceptive than we might imagine. Curiosity and intelligence are a heady cocktail for creative storytelling that informs, entertains and educates. This author could not resist. We might not realize how observant young children are. They have a lot of curiosity and intelligence that make them great at creating stories that can teach, amuse and enlighten. This author was drawn to this. You may wonder what a child understands about freedom, the environment, tolerance and self-worth. This book is for sensitive kids who want to know more about these tough topics. The themes are presented in small pieces in a safe and interesting setting, with colourful illustrations throughout. Moral questions are woven into the dialogues with the characters, with some humour and fun. The aim is that bedtime stories like these will encourage meaningful and loving conversations between parent and child. The imagination has a power that can take us anywhere. Tom Shanahan is an award-winning sportswriter and author whose books focus on Michigan State's football program leading college football integration. College Football Hall of Fame coach Duffy Daugherty 1960s rosters were college football's first fully integration teams. His 2022 story on the Rose Bowl, Alabama and segregation won first place from the Football Writers of Association of America. The Foreword was written by Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy. His second book, THE RIGHT THING TO DO, The True Pioneers of College Football Integration in the 1960s, explains how Daugherty's former assistant coaches and players followed his blueprint as head coaches to spread his fingerprints coast to coast. Their influence opened doors for the first Black players to integrate programs in the South and brought about the end of unwritten quotas limiting Black athletes to a half-dozen or so at USC and other schools. Christine revisits some of the most impactful conversations from the first season, featuring insights from Alexandra Xanthaki, UN Special Rapporteur on Cultural Rights, Scott Orr, a data scientist from the UCL Institute of Sustainable Heritage, David Watson, the Executive Director of Audiences and Media at National Museums Liverpool, and Hala Nur, a British Council colleague working in Sudan. “I think he's in both Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11!” - Chris, on Heston's sequel policy On this week's episode, we're going back to, well, Earth, to chat about the fun-as-hell sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes! How silly was it to make James Franciscus look exactly like Charlton Heston, instead of just having him play Taylor? How much of a total jerk is Dr. Zaius? Are these under-dwellers wearing those masks for outsiders only or what? How great are Zira and Cornelius as characters? And how fantastic is it to watch a big, Hollywood, sci-fi sequel and the movie's totally unconcerned with setting up the next one? PLUS: Never agree to follow Taylor in traffic, because he's gonna blow down the road and leave you in the dust! Beneath the Planet of the Apes stars James Franciscus, Kim Hunter, Maurice Evans, Linda Harrison, James Gregory, David Watson, Don Pedro Colley, Natalie Trundy, Thomas Gomez, Jeff Corey, Victor Bruno, Paul Richards, and Charlton Heston as Colonel George Taylor; directed by Ted Post. Rejection. It's something we all feel at some point in our lives, if not at school or a family member, it can be in a relationship or when you get sober. Whenever it might happen to you, there's one guarantee – it's painful.Vic feels rejection deeply. She even feels it from people she doesn't know. Whereas Hame doesn't care too much about what others think. His strong values and self-confidence mean that if people so turn their back on him.... He can handle it without going to therapy. But, as always on Sober Awkward, they don't have all the answers. So today, these two idiots get an expert to come on and explain what's going on in their tiny weeny brains when friendships get sticky.Today they welcome David Watson. An expert on personal development and neuroscience.David says,'My core belief is simple yet profound: every individual harbours immense potential, capable of achieving anything they set their minds to. Yet, there's one potent supercomputer that often stands as the primary hurdle—the human brain. Understanding its intricacies, its unique drivers, and the lens through which it views the world is paramount. To unlock its full potential, we must learn to reprogram it, harnessing its power to work for us rather than against us. 'Intrigued? So were we. Listen why harnessing your power, knowing your values and having a 'Million Dollar Mindset' could unravel rejection once and for all.To find out more about Dave just pop him and email at dave@neurolead.net.auor head to www.neurolead.net.auJOIN PATREON! and buy us a Cuppa so we can keep being awkward!https://www.patreon.com/user?u=81897291www.cuppa.community – The Free Social Network for the Sober and Sober Curious - Sober Events – Therapy – Sobriety Courses – Sober Groups, Tea and loads more.Buy Sober Awkward T-Shirts and Tea at: www.cuppashop.com@soberawkward @drunkmummysobermummy@cuppa.community @hamishadamscairns @patreon @spotify @budsandbeadsteaIf you are struggling with your relationship with alcohol please reach out to your local doctor, a therapist, AA Group or just chat to a close friend. In this episode, I coach two clients on how to achieve their goals. Mary Grant is a successful fashion entrepreneur looking to transition into coaching. The other client, David Watson, is a successful consultant who wants to grow and make a bigger impact. The one thing we have in common is that we all want to find our ideal clients. I believe the key to do that is to understand their psychographics, not just demographics. Psychographics are the client's values, beliefs, and motivations. So the conversation develops around this concept. Enjoy! Love. Rich P.S. For most of human history, it wasn't called coaching. It was called leadership.
