Welcome to the latest Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast. On this episode, I'm chatting Costume Designers Lou Eyrich & Sarah Evelyn who has recently been Emmy-nominated for their stunning work on Ryan Murphy's Netflix drama 'Hollywood'.From Murphy and collaborator Ian Brennan (‘Glee’, ‘Scream Queens’, ‘The Politician’), the alt-history series follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World War II Hollywood try to make it big – no matter the cost. Each character offers a unique glimpse behind the gilded curtain of Hollywood’s Golden Age, spotlighting the unfair systems and biases across race, gender and sexuality that continue to this day. Provocative and incisive, ‘Hollywood’ exposes and examines decades-old power dynamics, and what the entertainment landscape might look like if they had been dismantled. The impressive cast includes David Corenswet (‘The Politician’) as Jack, Darren Criss (‘American Crime Story’) as Raymond, Jim Parsons (‘The Big Bang Theory’) as Henry Willson, Dylan McDermott (‘American Horror Story’) as Ernie, Patti LuPone (‘Pose’) as Avis, Joe Mantello (‘The Normal Heart’) as Dick, Holland Taylor (‘Two and a Half Men’) as Ellen Kincaid, Jeremy Pope (‘The Ranger’) as Archie, , Samara Weaving (‘SMILF’) as Claire, Maude Apatow (‘Euphoria’) as Henrietta and Jake Picking (‘Chasing Life’) as Rock Hudson. If you're wondering why the show had two costume designers, this is something rather unique to Ryan Murphy. Having worked with Ryan for over 20 years, Lou works as something of a costume overlord (which she should totally have on her business card!) managing the look and style of all his shows from 'Pose' to 'American Horror Story' to '9-1-1' and the upcoming 'Ratched', along with everything in-between!As Lou moves from project to project, she works with other talented designers, such as Sarah to oversee the individual shows. Prior to 'Hollywood', Sarah's previous work includes film and tv such as 'American Horror Story', 'Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw', and 'Ray Donovan'. She is currently working on David Leitch’s 'Bullet Train' with Brad Pitt and Joey King.In the interview, Lou and Sarah discuss diving into the golden age of Hollywood. The duo chats about their painstaking research, not only into 1940s glamour, but also the day-to-day clothing of the up and coming stars. They also discuss Ryan's influence over the costume choices on the drama, recreating the clothing of real-world people, and designing their very own Oscar ceremony! If you'd like to hear more behind the scenes interviews, don't forget to rate and subscribe to where ever you get your podcasts by searching for "Geektown Radio".
