By 1970, Disneyland was not just a unique theme park business, but a well running piece of machinery. But now they had to replicate that kind of thinking to a larger stage as they opened up Walt Disney World. To better prepare for that, they had to educate everyone on how Disneyland worked. To that end, Van France, who originally created along with Dick Nunis the Disney University, wrote Art and Management of the Theme Show. This document, written originally in 1970 and then updated three years later, provides us a snippet in how the organization was ran during that time--a time that included no Big Thunder or Space Mountain, no Mickey's Toontown, no Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, no Indiana Jones Adventure, no adjoining Disney California Adventure, and not even hotels. It was just Disneyland with a parking lot in front. Still, we cover the fascinating insights that are gleaned from this document, as a way of understanding the organizational approach Disney used to create "The Happiest Place on Earth". The Disneyland website describes this attraction by saying, “Twist and turn on a speedy coaster ride built by the inventor mouse from Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers.  Riders must be 35” or taller to ride this attraction and the Thrill level describes it as being a Thrill Ride with Small Drops. Before we climb that tinker toy lift hill, here are 5 fat facts about Chip 'n' Dale's GADGETcoaster. 1. Chip 'n' Dale's GADGETcoaster officially opened with the rest of Mickey's Toontown on January 24, 1993.  On opening day, the ride was called Gadget's Go Coaster. 2. Having only a 44 second duration, this roller coaster is the shortest attraction in Disneyland. 3. Chip 'n' Dale's GADGETcoaster reaches heights of 27.9ft (8.5 meters) and soars up to speeds of 21.7 mph (34.9 km/h) 4. The character of Gadget, you greets you as you travel up the lift hill, is voiced by Tress MacNeille. 5. The ride was closed for refurbishment in 2022 and when it reopened in March of 2023 it had a new name and new figures of Chip, Dale and Zipper from the show Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers. The video shows the father's painting area which is wheelchair accessible and allows guests who cannot climb steps to experience the different rooms. News: Over at MiceChat, Dusty Sage was able to have a conversation with higher-up associated with Tiana's Bayou Adventure where he expressed his dismay at the focus on the search for a missing ingredient. If Dusty is right, there is a lot more going on with this attraction. Per his conversation, it is a sort of fake out for guests concealing the fact that they are doing a lot more with this attraction than has been announced. Massive set pieces are being installed to make this much more grand than the attraction that it is replacing.
