Welcome to the city of plantations podcast. I'm dr Jay formerly with plantation information radio. Thank you for tuning in. We hope the information provided within the episodes of this podcast helped keep you your family and your friends safe during this pandemic.Speaker 2 (00:20):This week. We are pleased to be joined by our own fire chief Donald Todd jr or as we call him, chief Todd. Chief taught as a lifelong member of the plantation fire department through his short tenure as chief. He's already led the emergency management team through a hurricane and an explosion, but I think even he'll tell you the Covid outbreak has really challenged everyone. We're also joined today by the medicine man himself, EMS division chief Ezra Lubow. We're going to spend some time with chief Todd and chief Lubow discussing the city's overall approach to managing the COVID outbreak, specifically what the fire department is doing to respond and some of the unique challenges that the COVID response presents as opposed to a hurricane or other type of disaster. So chief. Todd, welcome and thank you for taking the time to be with us and to speak with the citizens of plantation. Well thank you for inviting me. How you doing today? Oh, we're hanging in there. You know, we're all dealing with this issue and we're trying to do the best we can. Speaker 3 (01:18):I agree best we can and we are hanging in there.Speaker 2 (01:20):That's, that's I think all we can count on at this time. So, so chief, if you could start us off with just a summary of the fire department's overall approach to the Corona virus response. And really where we are today.Speaker 3 (01:31):This is unusual. It's not like a hurricane or tornado or, or other major events. This is something that no one was expecting. We weren't expecting, the country wasn't expecting it, we weren't prepared for it. The country's not prepared for it. So it's a day by day, hour by hour changes that we're trying to stay ahead of and, and we adapt as they come. Some of the challenges we've had has been to make sure that we maintain our PPE cause PPE is in our personal protective equipment. As you can see on the news every day. That is

Welcome to the city of plantations podcast. I'm dr Jay formerly with plantation information radio. Thank you for tuning in. We hope the information provided within the episodes of this podcast helped keep you your family and your friends safe during this pandemic. Today. We are pleased to have with us plantation police chief Howard Harrison. Chief Harrison has been involved with the planning and response to the coven 19 situation since the city initiated its response several months ago. Chief Harrison is a key member of the city's emergency management team and has served in a lead role through many major events over the past several years. We've asked chief Harrison here to discuss some of the issues and concerns about the executive orders regarding safer at home and social distancing. So chief Harrison, first of all, welcome and thank you for joining us. Thank you. It's a pleasure. Chief, can you provide us with an overview of the orders that are currently in place regarding social distancing and safer at home?Speaker 1 (01:02):Sure. A social distancing, also called physical distancing means keeping space between yourself and other people outside of your home to practice social or physical distancing. It's recommended that you stay at least six feet or two meters from other people. Do not gather in large groups, stay out of crowded places and avoid mass gatherings in addition to everyday steps to prevent Covid 19 keeping space between you and others is one of the best tools we have to avoid being exposed to this virus and slowing it spread locally and across the country. Safer at home is an order to individuals saying you can engage in essential services, essential activities, but other than that you need to stick close to home. Limit your movements and personal interactions outside of your home to only those necessary to obtain or provide essential services or conduct essential activities. Senior citizens and individuals with a significant underlying medical condition should stay at home and take all measures to limit the risk of exposure to coven 19.Speaker 1 (02:16):Excellent. That's quite the overview. Um, so if you can differentiate for us the difference between the two, safer at home and social distance. And what makes them different. Social distancing is what you do when you are in contact with anyone who is outside of your home. Safer at home is staying at home unless you absolutely need to venture out. Okay. That's, that's terrific. And it's that simple. Yes. Right. It's really just that straightforward. Absolutely. T

Welcome to the city of plantations podcast. I'm dr J formerly with plantation information radio. Thank you for tuning in. We hope the information provided within the episodes of this podcast helped keep you your family and your friends safe during this pandemic. Today we are pleased to have with us Dr. Daniel Perez, a specialist in infectious disease at Westside regional medical center. As an epidemiologist. Dr. Perez spends his days often nights and now of course weekends dealing with infectious diseases. Unquestionably, Dr. Perez is currently overwhelmed in dealing with the Corona virus outbreak. However, he has graciously agreed to spend some time on his day off with us to speak about coven 19 and its impact on plantation residents. So Dr. Perez, first of all, welcome and thank you for joining us. Thank you for having me. You know, and let me, let me start by just thanking you, your staff and all the healthcare providers out there for really putting themselves in harm's way to try and protect the citizens, not just the plantation, but really globally. So let's dive right into this if we can. What we'd like is if you can just kind of give us an overview of what is coven 19, what is coronavirus, what does it mean, what is it all about? Um, you know, what's happening globally around the world and then maybe focusing in on what's happening in your practice and what you're seeing locally.Speaker 2 (01:31):That's a long question there.Speaker 1 (01:33):It's a lot to cover. We can break it down if you wantSpeaker 2 (01:37):I think that, um, you know, it's interesting to see this, but Corona viruses have been here for millions of years. Um, we have, as a matter of fact, a flu flu like illnesses are caused by coronaviruses 10 to 25% of them. And, um, but what's going on right now? It's that this is a novel coronavirus it's a, it's a virus as has never been developed or has not been discovered until this, uh, episode. Um, we've been dealing with, um, epidemics, um, obviously ones, smaller proportions for what we're dealing with. Uh, for many years. I mean, as you recall in, um, 2002, um, we had the SARS epidemic, um, which, um, it only affected a very small, uh, amount of people and a very small amount of that that, um, was a little bit scary because the, uh, the, uh, the fatality rate, and we'll talk a little bit more detail about why was that was 10%, but it was only a very limited amount of tests at that time.Speaker 2 (

We're going to start with our own Mayor, Lynn Stoner, who's going to give you an overview of the City; what's happening and what is being done citywide to take actions accordingly. We're gonna try and reach out and get hold of an epidemiologist, a person who's responsible for and who treats infectious diseases to make sure that you're getting the most accurate information about the disease progress itself. We're going to speak to both our Police and Fire Chiefs about what they're doing as far as operations go within the City, what we're doing to enforce the executive orders, what we're doing to follow the Governor's directions and what we're doing to respond to your emergency calls. We're also gonna reach out to other city officials that are impacted by the outbreak, including such people as the Parks and Rec Director, the Utilities Director and many of the others who operate and perform functions within the City that impact you during this outbreak. So maybe you want to know how often we're gonna put out these updates. We're gonna put them out as regularly as is appropriate. The first few we're gonna put out right away to make sure that your updated on the latest information. And then as things change and as they progress we’ll be putting out new and complete updates. How can you find out about them? We're gonna put out alerts on all the information that we've been distributing on a daily basis. Remember that we do updates at 10 o'clock, and four. Every day we post updates to our website and to all our social media outlets as well. So if you pay attention to those, if you follow those, you'll know when and where you can tune in for the latest podcasts that are available in the future. We plan to do a number of other things as well as give you the opportunity to ask questions. We're gonna have a program available where you can ask questions off line. You can send your questions to AskCityHall @ Plantation.org or and we will answer them live on one of our podcasts
