The HOOS Place Studio is all moved in and back on the air! Seattle Hoo and Val go back in time to touch on the NCAA Tournament loss and its significance, then discuss transfers out and in. Are the Hoos done adding players? What might the rotation look like? How did the changes affect the team overall? Then we talk about Trey Murphy testing the waters and what his prospects look like.

The Hoos had to play after a Covid pause and they predictably were cold shooting. Was it just bad luck that led to the defeat, or was it more than that? Seattle and Val analyze the loss to Ohio and even take a quick look at next year. Spoiler alert: Seattle Hoo was not surprised at the loss and had some choice words for “Oh we just missed some shots because of the Covid pause.”

It was not long ago that the Virginia Men’s Basketball team was reeling from three straight losses, looking up at Florida State in the ACC, and seemingly figured out by the opposition. Now they are champions. Stumbling out of their home gym by the Seminoles and a series of adjustments by Tony Bennett and his brain trust – and maybe some loving trash talk from a mom? – have turned the season around just in time. The Hoos are Champions Again. StLouHoo joins Val and Seattle in the studio to break down how it happened, then turn their attention to the ACC Tournament that begins today. It was difficult to watch and it was difficult to talk about: Duke’s 13th win over Virginia in the 17 games they have played in the Tony Bennett era. Seattle and Val sit down virtually to process it.

Thursday-Saturday. Friday-Sunday. Saturday-Monday. Virginia tangled with a North Carolina team with tournament talent on Saturday, then has to turn around two days later and take on a tournament team in Florida State. The Hoos handled the first leg in the comfort of home. How will they do in the hostile confines of the Tucker Center in Tallahassee? Seattle Hoo brings all the numbers as he and Val get deep into these matchups.

The discussion ranged freely from the key moments and plays in the Pitt game, to the tendencies of referees, to the importance of offensive rebounds, to a look ahead at Georgia Tech and UNC. It has been a while since we talked about games, but we had three ACC hoops games to feast on, as the start of the ACC season looks to be just what the team needed to cure what ailed it. The football Hoos travel to Bleaksburg to defend the Commonwealth Cup against a desperate Virginia Tech team that has lost four straight games and is guaranteed to end the regular season with a losing record. Meanwhile, the Hoos can win their fifth straight contest - sixth if you count the "forfeit" by Florida State. Evan Hughes, an ACC Network commentator and the podcast director for Tech Sideline, joins the HOOS Place Studio crew to talk football. But we didn't stop there. We got into basketball, too, as the Hokies progress through an impressive season and the January 2, 2021, contest between the two schools approaches. Seattle and Val get in-depth into why the team looked so good against Towson, and so bad against San Francisco. Seattle compares San Francisco to UMBC and tells us why to him this was not that big of an upset and actually a good thing. We break down the new offense and look at what comes next. Is Seattle benching one of his favorite players?

Seattle Hoo hosts as Val Prochaska and Hooamp conduct the First Annual HOOS Place HOOpS Draft live from Hoo Dork City! It didn't go quite as the two general managers had planned, but in the end they picked two 8-man teams of Hoos to go head to head, and Seattle had a hard time making his pick. But first we addressed the loss of the Florida game - we learned after recording that Arizona State might replace the Gators - and the ravages of Covid.

The HOOS Place Studio crew got together with HOOS Place Lead Analyst StLouHoo right after the football game to talk hoops and a football discussion broke out! Noah Taylor, Robert Anae, the inside linebackers, defensive backs and offensive line all came into the jubilant discussion. Then we turned to women's soccer where the Hoos fell to "the best program in all of college sports" in the semifinal of the ACC Tournament, and finally we got to hoops where there was SO MUCH to talk about, we kind of ran on and on - kind of like this sentence - with "Meet the Team" vignettes and a look at the schedule that was just released. Lots of fun and some drips of real info.

Not much happened this past week with the football game getting postponed, women's soccer tournament starting this upcoming week, and basketball still to come. But Val and Seattle still found plenty to talk about with hoops anticipation, ACC women's soccer tournament preview, and the Hoos' "Meet the Team" virtual event to hype.
