UVA Football faces William & Mary, an FCS school, in Week 3, so, not as much need to get folks ready. This allows us to take the mid-week to review the disappointing 35-31 loss at NC State in Week 2. It was disappointing because, in a lot of ways, the ‘Hoos did everything but win that game. Today's postmortem grades the offense, defense and special teams.
NC State once again needed a fourth-quarter stop to seal a home win, but got just that with Cian Slone's interception in a 35-31 win over Virginia. The Wolfpack notched five total touchdowns with CJ Bailey accounting for three -- two on the ground, one to Noah Rogers -- while Hollywood Smothers had the other two on the ground. Cory Smith and Michael Clark discuss the Wolfpack's nail-biting win, Bailey's continued dominance as a passer and runner, Smothers' massive outing and the defense that bent, but didn't ultimately break against the Hoos. This Spring, UVA welcomed the Story Collider team back to Charlottesville for the third year running. During a special recording at Carr's Hill, four UVA STEM leaders told personal stories about their lives, their careers, and how personal stories and scientific inquiry intertwine. We hope you'll head over to Story Collider to hear from Scott Acton, Chair of UVA's Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, and Stephanie Rowley, Dean of the School of Education and Human Development; and Hoos in STEM is very excited to share the other two stories from some the event. Here's Bill Petri, the Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and International Health at UVA, and Kathryn Thornton a retired astronaut and Professor Emerita at UVA in the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The Story Collider's mission is to reveal the vibrant role that science plays in all of our lives through the art of personal storytelling. Roasting coffee sets the stage for how much potential enjoyment a customer has in drinking it. In order to truly bring out the best in a particular coffee, you need to consider details about the coffee that impact its behavior and development. One of the big ones of course is the cultivar you are roasting and being able to start determine a profile from a place of understanding based on what that cultivar generally likes. Today on this 33rd episode of Rate of Rise, brought to you by our friends at Mill City Roasters, we are sitting down with Rob Hoos to discuss his NEW book, "Cultivar: A Practical Guide for Coffee Roasters". For Decades now Rob Hoos has been an industry leading roaster, consultant, and author whose work is is born from patient and thorough exploration and experimentation. We had him on the show a while back to talk about his first book, "Modulating the Flavor Profile of Coffee", and now we explore Rob's NEW book and talk about the insights and findings from his research around roasting the various cultivars of coffee a roaster in today's marketplace is likely to come across. This is a great episode for anyone interested in roasting their coffee as well as that coffee can be roasted. Respecting the cultivar will open up a lot more both in the coffee and in your customers enjoyment of it! 2024-2025 was not the season anyone expected so the guys open up on a lighter note by discussing the 2025 NCAA tournament with bracketologist Fred Umland. The trio breakdown how Khari and Fred fared against the household bracketologist at ESPN, Fox, and CBS along with what the committee got right and where they left us confused. The group closes out bracket talk by discussing likely cinderella stories and choosing their first reaction final fours.Shifting the conversation over to the Hoos, the guys breakdown the season results and the unfortunate news that Ron Sanchez will not be retained at UVA. They then cover some of the rumored coaches like Ryan Odom and Richard Pitino and who they're preferences would be. To bring the podcast home, we discuss next year's roster including the upcoming decision from Chance Mallory, a Charlottesville native that still has UVA in the picture, and then who should be retained from the current UVA roster and what potential transfer portal additions are they excited about.

The timestamp on the email from the UVA Basketball SID announcing that the school was cutting ties with Ron Sanchez was 5:00 p.m. ET on the dot. #TeamAFP's Scott German noted that the FlightAware flight-tracking app had the team in the air over the Virginia-North Carolina border as the email was going out. Sanchez didn't learn his fate by email in the air or when the plane landed in Charlottesville, in case you were wondering. Our contacts down in Charlotte described the scene after Virginia's 66-60 loss to Georgia Tech that bounced the ‘Hoos from the ACC Tournament and ended the 2024-2025 season. From what we were told, Sanchez was ushered into a room ahead of his postgame presser for a quick meeting. We don't know who else was in the room, but we can presume it was the athletics director, Carla Williams. Sanchez was later than usual to the presser, and from a look at the video on YouTube, and a read of the transcript, he knew what was up.

Brad Hoos is the CEO of The Outloud Group, a global influencer marketing agency. Brad and his team have worked with hundreds of eight- and nine-figure brands, including Athletic Greens, NerdWallet, and SimpliSafe. As a former management consultant and business builder, he has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and Forbes. In this episode… When working with influencers, brands either select a single influencer to create content on one platform or choose creators who advocate for any brand without consistent loyalty. This can compromise brand integrity and consumer trust, leading companies to believe influencer marketing isn't worth the investment. How can you capitalize on influencers who will promote and advocate for your brand? Influencer marketing specialist Brad Hoos maintains that low-quality influencers ruin a brand's reputation, especially when targeting consumers on social media. He says to identify creators who have invested in their audience's interests to establish a loyal following. These influencers understand how to create content that adds value and positions your products as top performers in the market. You can also select creators by evaluating their CPA and performance metrics in specific categories. In this episode of the Up Arrow Podcast, William Harris sits down with Brad Hoos, the CEO of The Outloud Group, to discuss influencer marketing strategies to promote your brand. Brad explains the difference between brand advocacy and voice, how to expand into new markets using adjacent targeting, and AI's role in the influencer marketing space.

It's 2025 and the guys are back with their New Year's resolutions for the Virginia Men's Basketball Team. 2024 was a rough year for the Hoos between a rough NCAA tournament appearance, the retirement of Tony Bennett (a surefire hall of fame coach), and a slow start to this season under Ron Sanchez. Khari and Sean break down what they want to see change for the Hoos in 2025 in hopes of getting back to their glory days. They close out the pod by giving there thoughts on UVA's current west coast trip and what success out west could do for UVAs season.
The UVA Basketball program has taken up residence on the Left Coast, with a two-game road trip to new ACC members Cal and Stanford. The 75-61 loss to Cal on Wednesday revealed more in the way of warts for the ‘Hoos, who were awful on offense, and worse on defense. Interim coach Ron Sanchez, for his part, seems at a loss for answers. It's feeling like a lost season for Virginia fans. Stories covered in this podcast A not good Cal team dominated Virginia: The writing is officially on the wall UVA Basketball: Tony Bennett didn't do his buddy Ron Sanchez any favors UVA Basketball: Staff frustration with Christian Bliss bubbling to the surface UVA Basketball: Ron Sanchez has a Dai Dai Ames problem
NC State went into Charlottesville and played its best half of basketball in the first half but flopped in the second in a 70-67 loss to the Hoos. The Wolfpack fell to 1-1 in ACC play with the loss and hurt its resumé by falling to a team barely inside the Top 100 in the NET rankings. Cory Smith and Brian Geisinger take a look back on what worked so well in the first half, what led to the second-half collapse, the status of Ben Middlebrooks and where the Pack goes from here after the road loss. Watch or listen to the latest Postgame Podcast to get all of that and more!
The UVA Basketball team hosts NC State on New Year's Eve in the ACC home opener for the ‘Hoos, with a lot on the line, including, apparently, the job prospects of interim head coach Ron Sanchez. I'm overstating that, as I discuss in this podcast – the writing is on the wall as far as the coaching search is concerned. We go into that, and also get into the weeds on the odd story coming out of Tallahassee regarding a suit filed against FSU Basketball coach Leonard Hamilton over NIL payments. ICYMI UVA Basketball: Our first dive into the pool of guys who could be the next head coach Preview: What UVA Basketball fans need to know about NC State Suit: FSU Basketball team threatened to boycott Duke game over NIL payments
For some reason, Memphis coach Penny Hardaway played UVA Basketball for the first 20 minutes on Wednesday night – measured, precise, largely halfcourt basketball. Go figure, it didn't work – the Cavaliers led 30-21 at the break, and seemed poised for the upset of the 21st-ranked Tigers. Hardaway unleashed the hounds of hell on the ‘Hoos in the second half, pressing full court after makes and misses, utilizing halfcourt traps to get Virginia out of its offensive sets. The stratagem turned the nine-point halftime deficit into as much as a nine-point second-half lead before UVA was able to right the ship. Ron Sanchez's steering corrections came too late in what turned into a 64-62 Virginia loss.
The guys are back after a month long break (mainly due to Khari being in India) to discuss the latest for the Hoos. UVA is currently 6-4 with a big game against Memphis coming up in JPJ. UVA is in need of a major win but with the ACC having another down year, the guys discuss what the outlook on UVA's season appears to be thus far. The conversation shifts to discuss who's impressed this season as well as who hasn't lived up to off-season expectations. Khari and Sean close out the pod discussing Ron Sanchez's performance as the head coach at this point and have some fun with UVA's newest jerseys.
