Government influence is aimed at benefits for the government and not the people. When the carrot, coercion, does not work, force follows. The proponents of LEAP, Learning Enrichment and Academic Progress Program which is in the petition gathering stage for the November 2021 ballot, call for a new government-run school system because children are falling behind. This is because schools are not teaching academic fundamentals and in its place, they are indoctrinating our children with the left's social agenda. Joy Overbeck, in her article Over 14 Million Students Taught Radical Left Propaganda Under Guise of ‘No Place for Hate' clearly tells the truth on the No Place for Hate program found in schools across the country including 34 out of 89 Douglas County schools. Equity, where everyone must have the same outcome, is a very different proposition from equality, where people are allowed to pursue their greatest achievement through opportunities. The Employee Trip Reduction Program even hears from organizations that normally do not push back on Polis and the left agenda. Interesting to note that Colorado's Air Quality Control Commission of nine were all appointed by Polis. And we are supposed to trust Polis when selecting the nine members on the LEAP board? LEAP de-TABORs future revenue, spending and appropriations, another point of contention. Child Tax Credit Day in Colorado is celebrated by Polis and Democrats. It is heralded as a way to erase child poverty. Let's hold them accountable on this and hold the line on future funding. The new sponsor of The Kim Monson Show is Kim Bell, owner of Kunjani Coffee (kunganicoffee.com) located in Parker. The atmosphere is very welcoming with both indoor and outdoor seating. Kim is putting activities together, including an artist night and live music, for patrons enjoyment. Hours are: Monday-Wednesday 7am-6pm, Thursday-Saturday 7am-9pm, and 8am-4pm on Sunday. Stop by to enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and meet your neighbors. Guest Dr. Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace, and author of the books Confessions of a Greenpeace Drop-out and Fake Invisible Catastrophes and Threats of Doom, joins Kim to share the truth about fossil fuels. Fossil fuels were created with solar energy; they are organic and natural. When we burn fossil fuels, we are replenishing the carbon dioxide that was taken out of the atmosphere millions of years ago. It is a lie to say that carbon dioxide is a threat to the environment. The holes in the ozone have been there for hundreds of years. The air we breathe is the cleanest it ever has been. The war on plastics is a substitute for the war on fossil fuels. Dr. Moore explains the fallacies regarding the extinction of the coral reef and polar bears. Forest fires are not caused by climate change but by careless campers, lightning, arsonists and power lines.

It’s Kentucky’s newest distillery; Log Still Distillery is located in Gethsemane (just outside of Bardstown in Southern Nelson County). We toured the 300-acre “Dant Crossing” property with Founder and President, Wally Dant.  Wally, along with his family, Lynne and Charles Dant, are taking on this large project to create a “destination distillery” that is perfect for the whole family. Wally discussed the Dant family history in Nelson County and his efforts to revive the family name in the World of Kentucky Bourbon. He also shared two whiskey offerings that are going to be available at the Log Still tasting room; Monk’s Road Fifth District Series, a 6 year old Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Rattle & Snap, a Limited Release 8 year old 103 proof Tennessee Whiskey.  The Tasting Room is Now Open: Sunday 11 am - 5 pm Tuesday - Wednesday 10 am - 6 pm  Thursday - Saturday 10 am - 5 pm Bar is Open:  Thursday - Saturday 5-10 pm We are thankful for everyone who has taken the time to give us feedback on our podcast.  If you enjoy our content, consider giving us a 5 star rating on your favorite podcast app, leave us a review, or tell a fellow bourbon lover about our show. Cheers,Scott, Jake, & MichaelBourbon Lens About Log Still Distillery Our story begins with our forefather Joseph Washington Dant and an old hollowed-out poplar log. With it, he fashioned a still and gave birth to the Dant family’s place in bourbon lore with a legacy all our own. In 1836, he started a story of heritage, and Kentucky bourbon has flowed through our family’s veins ever since.  Seven generations later, we’re building something new at our old Kentucky home. Spearheaded by J.W. “Wally” Dant and cousins Lynne and Charles, Log Still aims to combine the age-old craftsmanship of distilling with the camaraderie and spirit of a family-owned business. And because family is at the heart of what we do, we view every bottle as a nod of respect to the past. Log Still is Wally Dant’s tribute to his father, forefathers and their contributions to bourbon history. About J.W. “Wally” Dant We call him founder, foreman and fearless leader. You can call him Wally.  As president/distiller, Wally Dant works hard every day to bring his vision for Log Still Distillery to life. And to Wally, it’s about more than quality spirits and an unforgettable destination. It’s about revival.  The great-great-great-grandson of bourbon legend Joseph Washington Dant, Wally is keeping his family’s rich legacy alive as he builds upon the same land in southern Nelson County where his forefathers once made spirits. “To be able to put our name on a bottle again is pretty important.” Log Still is Wally’s way of honoring the Dant family name and giving back to the community he credits for providing his family with values and love. And drawing from years of experience in the health care and liquor industries, this business-savvy entrepreneur is the right man for the job. Wally dreams big, and he won’t stop until he sees those dreams come to fruition. And the future? Log Still is still family-owned and run by the Dants. If he’s not hard at work reviving the Log Still legacy, you can likely find him making garden-fresh salsa, hot sauce or ketchup, or cooking up a chef-like meal for friends and family. Product – Available in the Log Still Tasting Room - Opened May 18, 2021 Monk’s Road Fifth District Series With Monk’s Road Fifth District Series, we tip our hat to the historic tax district of Central Kentucky, deeply seeped in bourbon lore. With this rotating series of hand selected spirits, we honor a rich tradition of nearly lost fifth district distilleries. It’s all part of a long line of rotating Bluegrass-inspired bourbons created with the same ingenuity and fortitude made famous by our forefathers. So just this once, let’s celebrate the taxman. This first Limited Release pays homage to Cold Spring Distillery, a historic distillery in southern Nelson County, Ky., founded by J.B. Dant in the 1800s. The Cold Spring name harkened back to the spring where, even in the summer, the water stayed cool enough that the distillery could continue to operate. This 6-year-old bourbon masterfully blends notes of corn, rye and malted barley for a product that revives the spirit of the original. Monk’s Road Dry Gin Our essential gin is a unique offering from our Kentucky hills, with a delicate balance of distinctly complementary botanicals. We’ve married watermelon rind with zests of orange and lemon for a bright and fresh flavor – creating the perfect gin for all seasons and palates. Sip it slow and neat or dress it up in a cocktail. This palate pleaser possesses an air of refinement. Monk’s Road Barrel Finished Gin Utilizing our bourbon barrels, we handcrafted this barrel finished gin in homage to the rolling Kentucky hills we call home, allowing fresh botanicals of coriander, cranberry, juniper and nutmeg to develop and mature into the perfect flavor profile. Smooth and complex with a subtle waft of smoke, Monk’s Road Barrel Finished Gin nods to the pride of place, tradition and legacy for which the Dant family is known. Rattle & Snap Tennessee Whiskey Several varieties of straight and flavored whiskeys will be available soon for patrons who may want to branch out from traditional, Kentucky Bourbon.   About Dant Crossing Approximately an hour’s drive from both Louisville and Lexington, Dant Crossing is a picturesque, 300-plus acre campus with a slew of amenities and activities for the whole family. It will be a one-of-a-kind destination for unforgettable weddings, memorable corporate events, day trips, and weekend getaways and will be anchored by Log Still Distillery. "Out of the million brush stokes on this painting, I like this brush stroke. So it was worth the 20 hours I spent on it to learn this one stroke. Then I would take that stroke into the next piece. Then that piece didn’t feel right but there was a second brush stoke also that I liked. And then eventually I got the point where I liked all the brush stokes on the canvas. That’s when I’m like OK, now I can start making art." Manik Raj Nakra is an Austin Based Artist who creates colorful and mythic-looking artworks influenced by his extensive research of cultures, ancient art, and architecture from all over the world. All that he absorbs through books, travel, and online research gets melded and transformed into his own unique but somehow universal visual language. I’m impressed with Manik’s boldness and commitment to his art practice and willingness to spend years out of view to refine his subject matter, experiment, and learn and improve his creative techniques, taking the quality of what he is producing to the next level, and then back into the world. Text courtesy of the BIg Medium Website "Inspired by stories of nature regenerating and reclaiming space during the Covid19 pandemic, W I L D L I F E examines what happens when humanity removes itself from the natural world. The exhibition also introduces a new material for the artist—the ceremonial bindi, worn for centuries on the forehead in Indian culture for spiritual, traditional, and fashion reasons. It can be seen as a third eye creating an opening to infinity or as a symbol of femininity. For the natural world depicted in the paintings, the renewed and rejuvenated flora and fauna are anthropomorphized with hundreds of bindis as wildlife reincarnated with third eyes. The twinkling of the jeweled bindis carry remnants of memory. The severed animal heads from which the new nature grows are depicted upside down to represent self-sabotage and the mistakes of the past. Influenced by the architecture of ancient forts and palaces of Indian Mughals, Iran, Oman, and Pakistan, the paintings are installed in window frames handmade by the artist. The pieces look out onto a world from isolation with new wonder, new honesty, and new beauty. At first, the viewer encounters these windows from the “inside looking out” but with bindis all over functioning as eyes, they equally become the “outside looking in” giving the paintings an existential feel to reflect on these uncertain times and space. Manik Raj Nakra’s work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Texas and San Francisco, a member of the 2019 Crit Group program with The Contemporary in Austin, TX, The LINE Residency with Big Medium in 2020, and a client list that includes Converse, The Oxford American, The LINE Hotel, Facebook, Urban Outfitters, amongst others." Everyone is missing out on dining out, and we are so grateful that many places quickly flipped from dine in experiences to doing takeout and delivery in a short timeframe with no instruction manual - just determination to keep going. Today our friend Larry, one of the owners of Appleton’s Basil Cafe, has the honor of being our first guest.  He’s sharing his thoughts on how to support local restaurants now - and after this pandemic.   Larry’s short list: Cash is always king, especially if you don’t need change. Gift cards are great, they get funds to restaurants now, for redemption later...which can feel like robbing Peter to pay Paul. The purchases are greatly appreciated, but please don’t use your gift cards now! Use them down the road when we’ve returned to normal!   Tip the staff. Eating out right now is a luxury. Yes it is takeout, however most restaurants are operating with a skeleton staff to make sure every order is prepared to the standards we all expect and that each order gets to the proper person. Tips, even if just rounding up, are always appreciated. Share the love - meaning write reviews, share food posts on social media (yours and the restaurant’s), in local groups like Fox Cities Restaurant Take out and Oshkosh Takeout & Delivery https://www.facebook.com/groups/foxcitiesrestauranttakeout/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/238898023910335/ Call or message ahead to place an order, if possible. 4-7pm is a hot time every day, especially Thursday-Saturday; if you know where you want to order from call to arrange pickup or delivery for later in the day. Maybe consider ordering out on a less busy day, like Tuesdays to spread the love out. Most places have one person dedicated to the phone and messages for orders, and each call does take a few minutes to complete the order, take payment, etc., so please be patient and keep trying!   Avoid 3rd Party Delivery Apps (when possible). They do charge business up to 30% of the sales from those deliveries. They also charge you, the consumer, a higher price for their service. And the tips you provide get paid to that service - NOT the staff preparing the food, and in many cases they aren’t familiar with the menu, which means there is more room for error or orders taking longer. We are grateful to the Basil Cafe crew, and all the other regional local restaurants that are staying open to provide us all with the comfort food we love right now.  Want to give Basil Cafe a try? https://www.facebook.com/basilcafepho or (920) 830-6741 Tell us your favorite restaurant, and better yet, show us a picture of your food! We foodie girls LOVE it!  #goodlifegirls #podcast #localrestaurants #locallove #delivery #takeout #supportsmall #foxcitiesdining #oskoshtakeout #eatallthefood #firstguestinterveiw #tips #BasilCafe

[BEST OF 2019] BIZ TIPS: How An Awkward Introvert Makes Friends Around the Globe

Room to Grow Podcast with Emily Gough

BY POPULAR REQUEST: I'm breaking apart a topic that I've been asked about by so many people in recent months and how I seem to make friends fairly rapidly and seemingly everywhere I go in my global travels.  I've even surprised myself at times, because I fully identify as being not only an introvert (which is not synonymous with shy, by the way), but I'm the first one to say that I'm usually the most awkward person in the room.  At least, that's how I feel about myself, ha! I've classified this episode under the Saturday business/podcasting episodes, but everything I talk about today could apply to anyone wanting to make new connections of any kind.   I want to make something very clear: f it ever looks like things come super easily to me socially, don’t be fooled.  Sometimes they do, but: A) That didn’t come naturally to me and took many years of practice. B) I often still feel very socially awkward and will replay cringe-worthy moments in my head later on, having those “WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO SAY THAT SUPER WEIRD THING”moments in time.     And yet...living here in Bali, it’s been pointed out to me that I seem have a knack for bringing people together from various circles and creating new friendships that may not have existed otherwise.  After multiple people mentioned this, I thought back and in high school I was the one who didn’t really fit in anywhere. I was friends with various cliques, groups and circles, but not really IN any of them.  And yet I often ended up being the random connection that would bring different groups or people together who normally would never have crossed paths. It seems to come somewhat naturally to me at times, so I've really dug deep here to try and break apart what it is that I do to make genuine, real connections with so many people from a wide range of backgrounds and providing many different examples of how this has worked in real life. Plus, we're talking about how to remove the F-off from our foreheads (we ALL have that on occasion!) to open yourself up to connection, the little gestures that go such a long way towards building relationships, and recognizing how much you have to learn from other people when you simply show some interest.  I'd love to hear your thoughts on this!  Am I the only one that regularly feels awkward in social situations?  Yes?  Haha!  Please DM meand let me know ;)   REFERENCES Luke Morris @islandofluke Claire Falconer @clairefalconer__ Room to Grow Podcast episode #93, Choosing Your Family & Establishing Healthy Boundaries Room to Grow Podcast episode #108, How to Set Boundaries: The Key to Healthy Relationships   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? After finding out that there had been a long-term affair going on with my partner and another woman for the 9 years he and I were together, I wanted to make sure I was doing everything I could to help heal. We can be good at helping other people change their mindsets, but not so great at it when it comes to ourselves especially after a significant traumatic experience, and I knew I was going to need extra support if I was going to be able to continue to heal and move forward with my life with as much gratitude, joy and ease as possible. Enter Emma. Emma Tait is a writer, transformational coach, and mindfulness teacher based in the Kootenay Mountains of British Columbia. Emma’s life’s work is to empower others to liberate themselves so they may live an honest, unapologetic existence. She believes the way back to ourselves is through mastering our emotional, physical, and spiritual wisdom and encompassing the courage to show up and be seen.  I was connected to Emma through Kylie McBeath, and started working with her a few months ago.  Emma has changed the way I view myself, and has become that little voice in the back of my head that challenges me to completely re-frame the stories I can get caught in, along with pulling me back into the present if I start to get ahead of myself, and giving me permission to be happy. I was stuck in such deep pain for what felt like so long, that when I actually found myself in this incredible state of happiness relatively soon after arriving in Bali from Canada, I no longer trusted my own emotions and didn’t believe it was possible to even be that happy. She's taught me (and continues to teach me) how to trust my intuition in new and exciting ways, recognize the ease that can come with letting go, and really leaning into this idea that sometimes life is hard at work for bigger and better things for us. Emma and I are tackling some big topics in this episode, including: The stories we create & attach to in our lives and the meaning we attach to them Stepping out of the chaos and getting into our lives Not getting lost in the self-improvement work Importance of unstructured time Pimping out your pain and this idea of whether or not it’s ok to leverage your most painful experiences onto a larger platform Concept of the fertile void when going through a massive life change or anything deeply emotional, and why it can be especially disorienting as an entrepreneur IT’S ALLOWED TO BE EASY: we make things so much harder than they need to be This is an important episode for anyone going through a tough time, especially as an entrepreneur and juggling the unique set of circumstances that can come with that.   REFERENCES Room to Grow Podcast episode #117, The 9 Year Affair: Lessons in Infidelity Room to Grow Podcast episode #121, Cutting Off the Breadcrumbs of Hope with Megan Bruneau Room to Grow Podcast episode #123, Vulnerability As a Commodity: Where's the Line? “To err is human.  To forgive, divine.” -Alexander Pope   When I posed some upcoming episode ideas on Instagram stories, forgiveness was one of the ones that drew the most attention.  And I can understand why, because it's an incredibly complicated and complex issue for so many of us. Not only that, but it takes a great deal of strength to forgive someone who isn’t sorry and to accept an apology you’re never going to get. Harder still is forgiving yourself for the things you did when you didn’t know any differently. Forgiveness is ultimately for ourselves.  It’s for us. Many times, the people we are going to either want or need to forgive may not ever hear or comprehend the forgiveness and what it took to get there Forgiveness isn't found, it's earned.  It’s hard work.  It's not for the faint of heart.  It takes massive strength and new levels of compassion, and forgiveness requires you to stare in the face of your own mistakes and take a hard look at what you may have spent most of your life avoiding.   This episode covers a lot of ground and is going to push you to challenge yourself.  Some of the topics covered: Examining misconceptions around forgiveness The sense of empowerment that comes with forgiving Finding purpose and meaning in shitty situations Using hope as a catalyst for growth Finding gratitude in your current and past circumstances Why forgiveness isn't about the words, but about the feeling Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  FIND EMILY Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast info@emilygoughcoaching.com Instagram @emilygoughcoach Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? [Author's note: This episode is a re-broadcast of the original episode #117 that aired on August 13, 2019.  I'm airing it today on Christmas Eve of 2019 on the one year anniversary of when my life cataclysmically changed with a knock on the door.  The out-pouring since coming out with this episode has been astonishing in the best possible way, and my wish is to continue to serve people by sharing a very vulnerable, very personal story with the purpose of giving hope to someone who might need to hear it.]   I ended my 9 year relationship in December after finding out on Christmas Eve that my partner at the time had been unfaithful to me and involved with someone else on/off for our entire 9 years together. I spent months grieving the loss of trust, the partner I had built a life with for nearly a third of my lifetime, and the pieces of myself that I had allowed to be lost in the name of maintaining the relationship.  Most importantly I recognized that I had a LOT of work to do on myself.  This process has torn me apart and forced me to look at my own issues head on.  Within days of walking away from the relationship, I realized that my stomach was no longer in knots, and my anxiety which had become increasingly crippling over the previous few months had lifted entirely for the first time in years.  I had been ignoring the warning signs my body had been sending me and invalidating my own intuition for YEARS when certain situations didn’t feel *quite* right.  My perception of my own reality had been manipulated, and the realization that my life had been built on a foundation of lies along with the fact that I had allowed the delusion in which I’d apparently been living to get to this point was eye opening.  I’m coming forward because we as a society hold a deep amount of shame around infidelity, yet it touches the majority of us in one way or another.  The weight of shame is heavy, dark, all consuming, but as Brene Brown says, shame cannot survive being spoken. My intention is to start a conversation around a topic that affects so many of us deeply.  To ask the hard questions, to take a look inward and see what I was choosing to believe, and to bring integrity to the table rather than dancing around an issue that we often prefer to keep tucked away in the darkest shadows of our lives for fear of judgement, pain and discomfort. I’ve felt compelled to share my story because it is my truth and a pivotal part of my journey, and this isn’t an effort to bring anyone else down. By speaking my own personal truth, my sincere wish is to extend hope to anyone moving through their own process that with the darkness comes, eventually, the light.    A reminder you might need to hear right now:  You are worthy of honesty.  You are worthy of love.  You are worthy, and YOU ARE ENOUGH.    I’m beyond excited as I move into this next chapter of my life and have so many incredible opportunities on the horizon, including travelling to some amazing places for awhile. There aren’t enough words to thank all of the people in my life who have been such a source of love, support and have shown me more grace this year as I’ve moved through this process than I would have believed possible.  Your generosity and kindness have completely overwhelmed me and held up an example of what true friendship looks like. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. ❤️ On today’s episode 117 of the Room to Grow Podcast,  I’m sharing my story.   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  FIND EMILY Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast info@emilygoughcoaching.com Instagram @emilygoughcoach Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   RELATED EPISODES Dark Side of Social Media Forgiveness Isn't Found, It's Earned: Doing the Inner Work Liespotting: Detecting Deception in Everyday Life Are You Listening to Your Intuition Affair Aftermath & Holding Space for a Friend with Christina Montalvo Communication, Betrayal, Infidelity & Self Esteem with Renelle Nelson Stepping Out of the Chaos of Your Life & Allowing Ease with Emma Tait Cutting off the Breadcrumbs of Hope with Megan Bruneau   REFERENCES "We all eat lies when our hearts are hungry." - Renelle Nelson, @noirxstherapist Room to Grow Podcast, episode #62: Post Birth-Control Syndrome, Fertility & PCOS with Dr. Jolene Brighten Room to Grow Podcast, episode #116: Reiki, the Healing Power of Energy & Protecting Yourself with Kim Schweitzer   PLUS!  Want to be a badass podcast guest?  You’re going to want to grab this highly requested guide walking you through every step of the way to have your interviewers begging you to come back on, and the listeners wanting to learn everything they can from you!  Grab your guide HERE.   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? Aligning Values Over Goals

Since it's the end of the year, the question of New Years resolutions inevitably comes up alongside a look back at the past year, what we've accomplished, and what we want to do and change for the year ahead.   This is usually when we make a long list of goals, have high hopes for ourselves, and trying to stick to a handful of new habits for as long as possible.  Which, as we all know, often doesn't work well to begin with.  I want to propose something different: what about choosing the values you want to show up with and designing your life based on those instead?  For example, rather than setting an arbitrary goal of a certain amount of income you want to hit in your business next year, what if you instead examined the values you want to be prevalent in your life and worked backwards from that instead?  Or instead of reaching for a relationship (platonic OR romantic) with a person who doesn't *quite* line up with core values in our lives and end up disappointed.  The problem is that when we focus on goals and leave values out of the question, we end up in situations that are anxiety-inducing, uncomfortable, and totally out of alignment for us. We've all experienced that intuition hit, even though we might try to ignore it.  This episode is going to walk you through how to start getting super clear on what your values are, why they're so important, and how you can design your life around them - while still getting what you want.  Because it's not always about goals, and sometimes we have to dig much deeper than that to get the important stuff that makes the biggest impact in our lives.    REFERENCES & RELATED EPISODES Instagram of Silvy Khoucasian - @silvykhoucasian Episode #59, The Anti-Resolution Way to Accomplish Goals That Don’t Suck Episode #159, The Confidence to Be Decisive Episode #117, The 9 Year Affair: Lessons in Infidelity  Episode #120 Listening to Your Intuition & Gut Instinct Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? Being polarizing has a way of making people sit up and take notice.  It makes people say HELL YES or FUCK NO.  And why do we want more no’s in the world of online business?  Because that’s going to make you more available for the yeses that are coming your way when you leave space for them.   It’s going to open you up and preserve your energy for the people you WANT to come into your life & business, and the people that are open and willing to learn from you the most, your ideal clients.   It’s also going to thicken your skin very quickly, which is extremely necessary in the online space.  Being polarizing captures the attention of the people who NEED to hear what you have to say.  Being "vanilla" is the downfall of online marketing.  If you're vanilla, no one will ever notice you in the online space where all kinds of people are constantly vying for attention.  If you’re trying to be for everyone, you’re for no one.  It’s a noisy world online and no one will ever notice you or hear what you have to say.   So take a stand.  Draw your boundaries. Have an opinion.  It might feel a little scary at first, but after awhile you start to notice how damn GOOD it feels to stand in your truth.  Tune in for how to make this work for you!   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? You know how I sometimes tell you that I finally got a guest on the podcast that I've had in mind (and on a Google doc) to interview for months and months?  Today's guest, Sarajane Case, is one of those very special people, and I'm so excited to introduce you to her and to chat all things enneagram! Sarajane is a writer, speaker and podcaster based in Asheville, NC. She teaches the enneagram as a tool for personal growth and self-compassion. She's also the creator of the hugely popular instagram account and podcast enneagram & coffee. The enneagram is a tool that can be used for personality typing on a base level, but it can be used for so much more than that and goes way beyond your average personality test, which Sarajane beautifully demonstrates for us.  In this episode, Sarajane & I are talking about: Explaining to us what the enneagram is (in case you don’t know what I’m talking about don’t worry, Sarajane has you covered!) and gives the most thoughtful & beautiful explanation of the enneagram I’ve ever heard Giving us the rundown on why it’s such a helpful tool and how you can figure out what your number is When identifying a little too strongly with one’s number can do more harm than good How to use the ennegram in a way that reinforces showing ourselves kindness and enforcing necessary boundaries, along with how it can impact our relationships Can't wait for you to tune in, and be sure to check out all the cool things Sarajane offers below, including a self-typing workshop!  And you simply must go connect with her on Instagram, because she is the most beautiful soul inside and out, truly.  I know she would love to hear from you if you enjoyed this interview as much as I did!    CONNECT WITH SARAJANE Instagram @sarajanecase& @enneagramandcoffee Enneagram Self-Typing Workshop Enneagram & Coffee Podcast   REFERENCES Tyler J. I was in Newport Beach in California a few days ago, and while walking along the boardwalk I met a woman when I stopped to pat her golden retriever, and we were talking about travelling and various life experiences.   She reminded me of an old Japanese proverb I'd once heard about and forgotten, about how when a piece of pottery breaks, the Japanese fill the cracks with gold because it was believed that it only made the piece stronger, not to mention more beautiful and valuable.  This practice is actually called kintsugi, loosely translated as "golden joinery"  “When the Japanese mend broken objects, they aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that when something's suffered damage and has a history it becomes more beautiful.” -Barbara Bloom   Overall the proverb calls us to see the beauty in imperfections, and the strength that tough or even shattering life experiences can offer us.  It's an incredibly beautiful reminder that the experiences or lessons that come the hardest, are often what mold us into the most powerful versions of ourselves, and that those experiences don't break us - they only serve to give us even more strength.  It's a reminder to embrace flaws and imperfections to gain strength in every sense of the word.  I felt really called to share this story today, because on the day this woman reminded me of the proverb was in a moment of time I really needed to hear it, and I hope that someone else needs this message today as well.  REFERENCES Learn more about Kintsugi   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? All the details here!   Being decisive matters to your success. It requires confidence to make a decision, to take a step forward, take action and build momentum. It also gives others confidence in your abilities, because f you can’t make up your mind about anything or trust your own judgement enough to make a decision, how do you expect anyone else to do the same?  Being decisive doesn’t mean you can never make a different choice, either.  It means that you trust yourself to make the best decision with the information at hand, and when the time comes that that particular decision is no longer working for you, then you can make a different one.  In this episode we're talking about how to get better at making decisions, why it's so important to your success in life, and making the choice to trust your own instincts.  “In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. I have a question for you: how do you celebrate someone else's good news? This is important, because how we react can have massive effect on the other person, more so than you may even realize, and it doesn’t feel good for YOU to be miserable about someone else’s good news either.  That shit sticks and people will always remember how you made them feel. Sometimes we can react out of jealousy, because someone else is getting something that we hope to have or achieve ourselves. Perhaps we react out of a place of fear that this news will change our relationship with the other person or impact our own lives in a negative way, even if it's good for someone else.  We're diving into the ways that other people's reactions can affect us, how to learn from jealousy and use it as a tool to get to know yourself on a deeper level, what it can mean when our gut instinct is to react in a negative way, and asking yourself how YOU would want to be celebrated.   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? Learn how to start the kind of podcast that gets people talking.  Because your voice can have a massive impact beyond anything you can imagine. All the details here!   Ok, onto today's topic!  Despite how far we've all come when it comes to mental health, there can still be a lot of stigma attached to it and sometimes we can jump to our own conclusions without actually listening to what they have to say.  When someone tells you that they're struggling, believe them.  Don’t undermine it, question it, minimize it, or feel like you know better than they do. Don’t try to explain it to them, patronize them, or immediately launch into a situation you experienced that you feel was practically the same.  Everyone experiences life in different ways.  Even when some of those experiences are shared and therefore seem very similar.  Take it seriously when someone tells you that they’re struggling.  Don’t just hear what someone says.  LISTEN to what they’re saying. Open yourself up enough to truly listen and offer them a safe space to open up.  Invite them to tell you what they’re going through if they’re comfortable doing so, or simply be there for them.   It's not up to us to pass judgement or decided how someone else should be feelings under a particular set of circumstances. This is especially important heading into the holiday season, since it can be a very stressful time of year for many.  The only goal of this episode: have some compassion with others, and leave judgement at the door.    Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? Plus, you even have the option for 1:1 coaching with me to go alongside the course so that we can really dig into what would work best for you and your business, help you get in front of more eyes, and build your business around your podcast to increase your revenue and reach. Learn how to start the kind of podcast that gets people talking.  Because your voice can have a massive impact beyond anything you can imagine. All the details here!   How to monetize your podcast is one of the questions I'm asked most often, and the next thing I'm usually asked about is how to get things like sponsors or to book advertisements.  My response is probably going to surprise you, because I actually encourage you to move completely away from sponsorships and ads when possible, and not to depend on them or spend all of your time trying to book them.  Instead, I would rather see you build your business in a way that is sustainable and so that it will only continue to grow over the longer term, and I'm giving you strategies today that will walk you through the various ways you can do that.   I'm encouraging you to take a hard look at not only the business you want, but the lifestyle you want as well.  Figure out what that looks like, and then work backwards to see which ways of monetizing your podcast will serve those goals most efficiently.   Not only that, but the people who tune in to your podcast want to learn from you, and you do them a disservice if you leave them hanging at the end of a podcast episodewhen you could be offering them a way of working with you to go deeper, to solve a problem that they're having and they're looking to you for help with. Because the transformation is in the transaction, as one of my coaches James Wedmoreoften says, and people sit up, pay attention, and do the work far more often when there's money on the line.   Plus, there's simply only so much you can cover in a podcast episode, and when you show up with value week after week, people are going to begin to wonder: if you put THAT much effort and value into your free content, imagine how much you offer behind the pay wall?! This episode is exactly what the title implies.   Two nobodies from Canada (hi! *Sarah & I are waving at you*) somehow managed to both create chart-topping podcasts.  And we're not special.  We don't have huge platforms, and our platforms were way smaller when we started. We didn't really know what we were doing in the podcasting space but did it anyway. The only thing we *did* know was that we wanted our message to reach more people and have a deeper, more meaningful impact.  And we seem to be achieving our goals in far bigger ways than we would have thought possible thanks to the world of podcasting. Between us: Tens of thousands of downloads, both listened to in more than 70+ countries Appearing regularly on the charts on Apple, which is the best way currently to measure how a podcast is doing Sarah’s podcasting has been chosen by Apple to be featured for International Women’s Day, and lands in the top 50 of entrepreneur podcasts, while Room to Grow has been consistently featured in the top 200 among in mental health podcasts in countries all over the world And most importantly, we're both driven by a fire & passion to share our message on larger and larger platforms to increase our impact Sarah Swain has taken Canadian entrepreneurship by storm. This corporate overachiever-turned-business owner traded in her cushy job, management title and 6 figure salary for a dream of building an empire. With nothing but an idea, a growling hunger to help people see what's possible and a Facebook group, Sarah sought to build a platform to connect and elevate Canadian women. Her mission has always been twofold; put top Canadian talent on the map, as opposed to just a place to get drafted and creating magic elsewhere, and keep as many dreams as possible from going to the grave. With an unparalleled work ethic, hyper-focus and passion for leadership, Sarah is dedicated to the growth of people and their ideas alike. All the details here!   Tomorrow is my birthday, and that usually puts me in a reflective mood.   It got me thinking: some people would say I've had a *really* bad year.   And yet, I'm calling it a smashing success.   In the course of less than 1.5 years, I’ve managed to: Quit my FT corporate job after more than a decade Pivot my entire business focus (from holistic nutrition to podcasting & business coaching End my long-term relationship of 9 years Sell my house, car, and almost everything I owned Left Canada to move to Bali, the farthest corner of the globe that I could go from my hometown (literally - I googled it), on a “working vacation”….and have ended up living here instead of leaving. I really felt this one on a deep level and I'm excited to share some of my biggest takeaways this year because I think there's a lot that all of us can learn and apply in various ways in our own lives.   Here's to 33! We're talking all about why it's so important to limit how much info you're consuming, but first.... Introducing...PODCASTING FOR IMPACT: The Course. This is the project I've been working on for months, and it's going to teach you how to not only bring your podcast to life, but to increase your visibility, promote yourself and your podcast, use it to grow your business in a strategic way, and most importantly, help you to have a massive positive impact on the very people you're trying to reach that need to hear from you. All the details here! Ok, so what's the deal with this whole consuming vs. creating situation? If you want to be an entrepreneur, you MUST make the switch from consumer to creator. To see a problem and create the solution to solve it for someone.  That requires a dedication to your craft, and it’s fatiguing to constantly be looking around you and seeing what everyone else is up to.   Not only that, but it causes us to fall into the trap of believing that everything has already been said, or done better, than we could do it ourselves.   We can get stuck in the rabbit hole of consuming information and never actually *doing* anything with any of it.   It comes down to this: Who do you want to be?  The person that read every blog post and listened to every podcast and bought a library worth of books?  Or the person who actually did something with what they learned and the knowledge and expertise that they had?  You get to decide.  And until you make the switch, you'll be stuck in the cycle of consuming.   REFERENCES Podcasting for Impact Course Episode #149, The Fear of Success is Real: Everything Has a Price   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? I’ve got you covered with this training, and you even have the choice between video or audio only, because I know you’re on the go and like to be able to listen anywhere.  GRAB IT NOW!**   Let's get into today's episode: all about IMPACT.   First of all, everyone is going to have a different definition and idea of what having an impact looks like.  But what I want to underscore most with this episode is that having an impact isn't something reserved for those with massive audiences or a huge business that they're looking to scale.   Impact can come from something as simple as smiling at someone.  From making somebody feel less alone, teaching a friend a new skill, from a teacher believing in a student when they're having trouble believing in themselves.   The smallest actions can change lives, and you have the ability to inflict change.   To make a difference to one single person out there, to change the world on a more global level, to do whatever you put your mind to.  You are far more wildly capable than you give yourself credit for, and never underestimate your own abilities.  Today we're talking about: Examples of having an impact in your everyday life Fully grasping how the smallest actions can mean the most to someone, and how even things like carefully choosing where to spend your time, energy and money can create shifts Connection = impact Some ideas around how to have an impact on a more global scale and what you can do to get there Everyone is a teacher and has some sort of skill that someone else would love to learn Why I disagree with the idea that we all have a responsibility to share our stories The differences between being uncomfortable and discomfort, and why that has everything to do with impact   REFERENCES Greta Thunberg Episode #117, The 9 Year Affair: Lessons in Infidelity Episode #142, Impact, Optimism & Chasing the Bright Side with Jess Ekstrom Episode #119, Is Podcasting Really the New Blogging? Introducing...Podcasting with Impact, your complete roadmap to launching and growing a successful podcast, including the 3 secrets no one talks about when it comes to podcasting. I'm giving you everything you need to know to bring your podcast to life, make incredible connections with guests and listeners alike, and be able to have the positive impact you want and spread your message in the best possible ways.  This is what you've been waiting for, because podcasting is in its' infancy stages right now and there's never been a better time to jump on board.   I've got you covered with this training, and you even have the choice between video or audio only, because I know you're on the go and like to be able to listen anywhere.  GRAB IT NOW!   Listen up: I've said it before and I'll say it again.  The number of followers someone has on Instagram (or social media in general) does NOT equal connection, nor does it equal revenue or profits.   This has become especially apparent to me living in Bali where there is an unusually high concentration of so-called "influencers" in a very small geographical location, and the judgements and perceptions that come with it have led me to coming forward with this discussion. What I often see happening with *some* of these massive platforms is LOW TRUST.  There's very little trust built with their audience.  I even recently heard about an influencer with over 2 million followers who couldn’t manage to sell 30 t-shirts to their followers. Don't get me wrong, there are absolutely benefits to very large followings and it can open a lot of doors, which we're discussing today as well. But judging someone based solely off of their following is a mistake, and we're digging into all of the issues around this and misconceptions in this episode. Additionally, some of the best questions to ask yourself when it comes to building your audience in a purpose-driven way rather than focusing on the numbers: How can you serve them better?  How can you show up for them in new ways?  How can you support them, help them, offer them something they might really need to hear or something of value that would benefit them?  How can you connect them with new people or connections that would benefit all involved parties? When you can show up for your people in a genuine way like this, it's going to build massive trust that will pay off in the longer term, regardless of how many followers you have.   REFERENCES Kevin Kelly's 1,000 True Fans Superfansby Pat Flynn Room to Grow Podcast episode #131, How to Book, Interview & Build Relationships with Podcast Guests Room to Grow Podcast episode #128, [BIZ TIPS] Protecting Your Brand & Why Trust is a Must with Your Audience Room to Grow Podcast episode #144, [BIZ TIPS] How an Awkward Introvert Makes Friends Around the Globe   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? I have a confession to make: I’ve been hiding. Much as it might seem as though I’ve been putting myself out there more than ever, and I have been, I’ve also struggled with crushing levels of resistance to everything that I want to do and know that I am capable of accomplishing the past couple of months in particular. Leveraging my own extremely personal story into the spotlight has been daunting, and with that has brought a great deal of fear around all of the potential new issues and expectations that can come with that, along with hitting new levels of success.  Everyone has a wildly different definition of success, but many times what stops us from reaching it is the fear of everything that can come with it. We’re often going to feel resistance come up.  Steven Pressfield in The War of Art refers to Resistance as its’ own entity, something that will always appear when we’re doing some new, something worth doing.  This is because our brains are trained to keep us comfortable, and doing something new is going to push you to new levels which can be very dangerous from an evolutionary standpoint. There can be competing factors and stories in our own heads, such as: Can you have a successful biz AND a happy, loving, committed relationship?  Can you have the career you dream of AND be a great mom? Is it possible to have the success you dream of and still maintain your current friendships, relationships & lifestyle?  To quote one of my coaches Emma Tait, "it's allowed to be easy." Sometimes we have to remind ourselves of this to remember that everything doesn't have to be as difficult as we make it out to be in our imaginations. We're talking about all of this and more, including: The fear of expectations and what comes with hitting new levels of success Avoiding the work we both need and want to be doing Self-sabotaging ourselves without even realizing it The positive and the negative potential prices that can come with any degree of success Take a listen to the episode and DM me to let me know how it resonates for you!  Plus, don't forget to share with someone who needs to hear it.   REFERENCES The War of Art, by Steven Pressfield Room to Grow Podcast episode #133, Stepping Out of the Chaos of Your Life & Allowing Ease with Emma Rose Tait Room to Grow Podcast episode #69, Overwhelm & Information Overload is Your Own Fault: How to Deal Room to Grow Podcast episode #20, Consistency Over Perfection   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? Alone & Lonely Are Not Synonymous: Loneliness is a State of Mind

Let's face it: most of us are feeling lonelier overall than we ever have before.  But sometimes being alone and being lonely are often confused. What we sometimes forget is that we can be very happy alone.  But usually when we’re lonely, we want something to shift or change.  The sad irony in loneliness is that it makes us feel like we’re alone and isolated in feeling that way.  And yet, so many of us feel lonely that if we opened up about it more and did something about it, we wouldn't feel nearly so alone. Loneliness comes with significant health effects, and low social connection carries similar health risks to smoking 15 cigarettes per day.  It can lead to depression, make it more difficult to interact with others (which is of course, more sad irony) because it makes lonely people more sensitive to social situations and the perceived stakes when having those kinds of interactions, increased risk of heart disease, and can lead to unhealthy habits when it comes to how we eat, move and workout On top of that, deep feelings of loneliness on an ongoing basis can lead to increased stress, poor memory and decision making, and can even lead to progression of conditions like Alzheimers. Today we're breaking down the significant differences between being alone versus being lonely, along with: Objective loneliness vs subjective Perpetual loneliness and how it affects us Sitting in it and experiencing it rather than reaching for something random to take away the pain Feeling lonely within the context of romantic relationships  Ready to dive in?  Let's do this.    REFERENCE Medical stats on loneliness Room to Grow Podcast episode #130: Cancer, Depression & Strength: A Powerful Story of Hope & Resilience with Tom McClelland Room to Grow Podcast episode #133: Stepping Out of the Chaos of Your Life & Allowing Ease with Emma Rose Tait Room to Grow Podcast episode #144: [BIZ TIPS] How An Awkward Introvert Makes Friends Around the Globe   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? You know I’m still all about podcasting, but video is still important, especially for Instagram stories. That doesn’t mean you have to be doing video trainings  or Youtube videos, but you still need to be showing your face.  People need to get to know you, AND podcasting isn’t necessarily for everyone, though it can be an even better way to dip your toe in the water (one major bonus of podcasting is that you can record in your robe and not care - though I've done videos in my robe too!) More than half the battle with video is simply showing up, much like anything else, because you'll never get any better if you don't try.  What are you afraid of when it comes to video?  Being judged by others? Or judging yourself?  I assure you that NO ONE else is paying as much attention to you as you think they are, they're far too concerned with their own stuff.  The #1 thing I get told about why people appreciate me, my brand, my podcast and my Instagram stories? I'm relatable.   That isn't an accident.  And today I'm sharing with you all of the ways that you can show up as YOURSELF, no matter how messy and imperfect you might think you are.  Because people need to hear what you have to say, and they want to connect with you on a deeper level.   We're talking about how to get over the things that are holding you back from doing videos, how to figure out what to talk about, and all kinds of tips to make your videos better.    CHALLENGE THIS WEEK: From the time you listen to the episode, you have 24 hours to post an IG story of yourself talking. AND you aren’t allowed to re-record.  Even if you fuck up a bit.     NEXT LEVEL CHALLENGE:  -show your face in your stories every day for a week.    AND THEN: Commit to going LIVE at a certain date and time.  Be sure to tag me in your IG stories as you take me up on the challenge!  I want to see your beautiful face showing up as YOU.  Pop into my DMs over @emilygoughcoach and I'll be cheering you on!    REFERENCES Room to Grow Podcast episode #96 When We’re Perfect, We’re Not Relatable with Marsha Vanwynsberghe Room to Grow Podcast episode #122 [BIZ TIPS] The Algorithm is Working FOR You: Social Media 101 Room to Grow Podcast episode #125 [BIZ TIPS] Repurpose That Shit: Stop Being a Content Machine Room to Grow Podcast episode #134 [BIZ TIPS] Shutting Down Imposter Syndrome That Keeps You Stuck Diva Lights on Amazon   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments? Positive Reinforcement Might Be Doing More Harm Than Good

I don't agree with everything that Gary Vaynerchuk puts out into the world, but this Instagram post he did really struck a deep chord:   “You’re addicted: To people telling you you’re pretty. To people telling you you’re talented. To teachers telling you you’re a good student. To opinions. The reason so many struggle with negativity is because they overvalue positive reinforcement.” -Gary Vaynerchuk   The problem is that when we give SO much weight to the positive reinforcement, we’re affected even more deeply when we get negative reinforcement or feedback.  I'm ALL for positive reinforcement and praise.  But it's like anything else: too much and it becomes unhealthy. We need to continue to be motivated by intrinsic praise because when no one is clapping for you, are you going to be able to keep going otherwise?  Are you going to be satisfied with knowing that you did a good job, without someone else telling you? Are there things out there that are worth doing even if you knew you would NEVER get an ounce of praise?  When we are trained to respond only to positive reinforcement too often, it can become addicting.   This episode is a quickie and diving into how we can continue to be motivated for our own success, even when no one is watching - and how you can stop feeding into this cycle we can get caught in.   REFERENCES Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell Gary Vaynerchuk Diva Lights on Amazon   Want to join the conversation or connect with Emily?  Connect below!  CONNECT WITH EMILY Instagram @emilygoughcoach info@emilygoughcoaching.com Emily Gough Coaching Room to Grow Podcast Facebook: @ Emily Gough Coaching   DON’T MISS… Questions?  Comments?
