Welcome to your Monday edition of Noles News Now, your home for the latest updates in Florida State athletics three times a week from Tomahawk Nation. I'm your host Brian Pellerin getting you caught up on the weekend that was for FSU. It's already the second week of May and that means the semester is coming to a close in Tallahassee and the end of the spring sports schedule is quickly closing in, but we start on with the Noles football team… more specifically a former Nole as Jermaine Johnson officially put pen to paper this weekend on his rookie deal with the Jets. The Jets newest first-round defensive end also made his first appearance in front of the New York media this weekend as well. He talked about his excitement to see his dreams come true and how ready he is to learn from the veterans on the team all while wearing his F-S-U hoodie. Johnson was also rocking No. 52 in his minicamp workouts… but that's subject to change for the actual roster so don't buy the jersey just yet. The guy trying to replace Johnson is Albany transfer Jared Verse. He popped during the spring, but it ain't easy replacing a first-round pick like Johnson. So can he live up to the hype that has surrounded him this spring? Tomahawk Nation's coach Adam Brown and Kevin Little broke down his game this weekend in the latest installment of their post-spring report cards. You can find that link on Tomahawk Nation dot com. Volume one of that series focused on wide receiver Mycah Pittman if you'd like to check that out as well. Monday could be a huge moment in the NIL saga that has taken over the college sports landscape as the NCAA's Division One Board of Directors is expected to weigh in on a set of new guidelines from an NIL subcommittee, according to Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic. Those guidelines would give real framework to what has been the wild west of NIL payments for players. These would better define the rules and who is beholden to follow them. I'd recommend a follow for Nicole as she follows the Board's actions and what it could mean for college sports. The F-S-U softball team finished their regular season on a strong note and one Nole made history in the process. The squad swept Sunday's doubleheader in Raleigh and completed the weekend sweep of NC State thanks to Sydney Sherill's three-home run game. That's a first in Noles history. The team as a whole had 7 big flies in the contest. The first time that's happened in program history as well. They completed the regular season with a 49-5 record and won each of their final 11 games. Next up is the ACC Tournament in Pittsburgh where the Noles will be the No. 3 seed and take on 6th seeded Virginia on Thursday night. First pitch is set for 7:30. And if you want more on the Seminoles softball team as they enter the postseason, check out this week's Seminole Wrap podcast releasing tonight from myself and Gwyn Rhodes as we get you caught up on the season that was for the team and what's ahead as they start postseason play. Again, that should be out late Monday night. The FSU baseball team opened their weekend trip to BC with an opening game loss but claimed the next two, 10-4 and 8-1, to take the series. Sunday's win came courtesy of a dominant performance from Bryce Hubbart who punched out 11 over 7 innings while limited Boston College to just one hit. Noles back on the diamond on Tuesday. A tough end to the weekend for the FSU beach volleyball team as they fell in the national championship to USC, but still a great season to make it all the way to the title. Congratulations to them. The men's tennis team knocked off Georgia this weekend, they'll be moving on to the round of 16 for the first time in school history. Congratulations to them as well. After the Carolina Panthers failed to trade for Deshaun Watson and Baker Mayfield they opted to trade up in the 2022 NFL Draft for Matt Corral, likely ending the team's pursuit of a veteran quarterback. Since Corral was selected in the third round, the Panthers, including head coach Matt Rhule and general manager Scott Fitterer, have maintained that they would like to bring Corral along slowly and that Darnold is the team's starter. Can Darnold make the most of the opportunity given to him in 2022? What happens if Darnold finally reaches the potential of his third overall pick status? The Panthers filled the need at left tackle by drafting NC State and Providence Day School alum Ikem "Ickey" Ekwonu sixth overall. The Panthers also might've solved the issue at quarterback by selecting Corral. Although, time will tell. What needs do the Panthers still have on the roster as the offseason program starts to ramp up? What free agents should or could they pursue? If the Panthers do in fact plan to bring Corral on slowly then that would likely take him out of the battle to start Week 1. Despite boasting a 2-0 record as a starter, the Panthers have shown that they don't believe in P.J. Walker as being a strong option as a starter. Leaving no true competition on the roster to push Darnold. Should the Panthers still look to add a veteran quarterback? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! NC State football got a huge boost in the trenches on Thursday evening with the NCAA granting a medical waiver for offensive lineman Chandler Zavala. Hello everyone, happy Friday, and welcome to Noles News Now presented by Tomahawk Nation-- I'm Perry Kostidakis, and heading into the weekend, here's the latest in Florida State athletics. Kicking things off, on Wednesday No. 3 FSU softball beat No. 11 UF via a walk-off homer, courtesy of Jahni Kerr. It was the first time in 16 years that FSU secured a series win over the Lizards -- the Seminoles are now 46-5 and wrap up the regular season this weekend vs. NC State -- our Gwyn Rhodes has you covered with a full preview on tomahawknation.com In football news, linebacker TJ Davis, who signed as part of FSU's 2020 class, was removed from the Seminoles' roster after being medically disqualified. While he was a strong scout team player, even earning Scout Team Player of the Year for the defense this past season, he only saw action in one game for Florida State. The 2020 recruiting class has now seen 10 departures, leaving 15 members still on the roster for now. The 23rd-ranked FSU baseball team will look to bounce back from a midweek beatdown handed down by Stetson -- the Seminoles take on Boston College on the road in what's a should-win matchup, especially with the season winding down. Parker Messick, slotted for his usual Friday role, dominated TCU last weekend with 14 putouts to help extend the Seminoles' national lead to 521 strikeouts. The fifth-seeded FSU beach volleyball team is competing in the NCAA Championships -- they advanced to the round of 8 after taking down 12th seed Cal Poly -- the Seminoles are matched up against 4th seed LMU, and that game is scheduled for today at 11 a.m. In other NCAA Tournament action, the 28th ranked Florida State men's tennis kicks off competition today against Georgia State -- women's tennis is also in action this weekend, taking on FIU We've got these stories, and much more, including a film breakdown on transfer wide receiver Mycah Pittman and the latest FSU recruiting offers and updates, on TomahawkNation.com Thanks for tuning in, have a great weekend and we'll see you on Monday.     Learn more about your ad choices. What's the difference between a vet and a vet nutritionist? Both have an in-depth knowledge of the diseases that can affect our dogs, but nutritionists focus on food as the basis of their treatment plans. Dr. Bullen explains how every patient is a puzzle with unique nutritional needs, and how she uses chemistry, math, and both patient and owner preferences to come up with solutions that can help dogs feel better and live healthier lives. We are very excited to have Dr. Bullen as a guest on the show, as veterinary nutritionists are few and far between! She shares many tips from her experiences, including the diagnostic tests that are most helpful when formulating a custom diet, how to get a sick dog to eat, and when to enlist the help of a nutritionist. And of course, we ask her what SHE looks for when recommending a diet for one of her patients with cancer. Links Mentioned in Today's Show: Entyce American College of Veterinary Nutrition Directory VetScoop Related Links: Diet and Dogs with Cancer article About Today's Guest, Dr. Lindsey Bullen: Dr. Lindsey Bullen earned her BA in Chemistry and BS in Zoology in 2007. She remained at NC State for her post-baccalaureate training where she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2012, completed a medical and surgical internship in 2013, a residency in 2016, and a fellowship in 2017. Following board-certification in veterinary nutrition, in 2017 Lindsey created the Clinical Nutrition Service at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas. 2022 brings new opportunities as Dr. Bullen is actively creating a Clinical Nutrition Service at Friendship Hospital for Animals in the DC area. Dr. Bullen is particularly interested in clinical nutrition application, specifically: critical care, multi-disease state, and assisted feeding. Though she is no longer in academia, Dr. Bullen brings experience and a strong passion for teaching. And when she is not actively working in clinics or speaking at conferences, Dr. Bullen acts as an industry advisor and consultant through her company, Bullen Veterinary Consulting, PLLC. Lindsey grew up in a small town near Asheville, North Carolina. Though not quite a full native of this beautiful state, she is happy to still call it home. She currently lives in Apex with her husband, Nathan, and their two boys, 6-year-old, Arthur and 3-year-old, Rowan. Late Kick Live Ep. 256 features Josh Pate discussing the future of College Football after Notre Dame A.D Jack Swarbrick made comments very similar to things said on this show two months ago. Are we headed towards a world where we see a split of major CFB into two different tiers based on the weighing of the amateur versus semi-pro models? Josh also discusses more topics spanning the entire scope of College Football as we take a look at some of the boldest 2022 College Football predictions out there. Will Bryan Harsin make it through 2022 at Auburn? Can UGA make it back to the CFP? What would have to happen for Michigan to repeat as Big Ten champ or NC State to finish top 6? All that plus a deep dive into the Late Kick mailbag with questions about favorite host cities for the CFP Title Game, LSU's QB depth, how Agiye Hall will impact the Texas offense, and why home field advantage matters so much in College Football.
