She is the Founding Director Emeritus of the International Institute on Peace Education, a global network and annual gathering of peace educators around the world, founded in 1982. She was also one of the initiators of the Global Campaign for Peace Education launched in 1999. Her unique planetary perspective emphasizes the interrelationships among gender equality, environmental sustainability, human rights and peace as the foundations of human security. Her six decades of practical experience and over 300 published works, including the well-known book Sexism and the War System, solidifies her profound impact on our society. Her work advocating for The Women, Peace and Security agenda is anchored in the principle that effective incorporation of gender perspectives and women’s rights can have a meaningful and positive impact on the lives of women, men, girls, and boys on the ground. She made an important contribution to SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 1325 which has protected millions of women worldwide and enhanced their role is peace making by including women and girls in decision-making, conflict resolution, post-conflict processes, UN programming and reporting, UN peace support operations. Her publications and papers are archived in the Canaday Special Collections at the Library of the University of Toledo, Ohio.About Captain Maggie Hallahan:  Captain Maggie is a photographer and video director that has a unique perspective from her experience as internationally respected photography and video journalist and visual brand expert. She specializes In Gender Equality and work with unconscious gender bias in brand and marketing photography and video. She had the opportunity to be a road builder in the digital photography and audio communication publications for MSNBC and Martha Stewart Living. Her company, MHPV, has worked with dozens of corporations and publications around the globe focusing on in country marketing for technology solutions and in the public health sector. Since 1982 her work has been published in print and for hundreds of editorial and non-profits publications. Working as a contract photographer and videographer for UNFPA and UN Women since 1982, sharing the stories of human rights and gender equality. She recently co-founded shift7, a company focused on tech-forward networked innovation for impact and economic inclusion. Smith served as the third U.S. chief technology officer from 2014-2017. She spent over eleven years as a vice president at Google, leading new business. In that role, she led acquisitions of Google Earth, Maps, and Picasa. Earlier, Smith was CEO of PlanetOut, worked on early smartphone technologies at General Magic and at Apple Japan. She is an advisor to the MIT Media Lab, Vital Voices, Thinkof-Us, co-founded the Malala Fund, and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering from MIT, where she serves on the board as a life member. She completed her master’s thesis work at the MIT Media Lab and was a member of the MIT student team that designed, built, and raced a solar car 2,000 miles across the Australian outback.More about Captain Lehua Kamalu: Lehua is the first woman to serve as captain and lead navigator of a long-distance ocean crossing for the Polynesian Voyaging Society, on the ancestral voyaging canoe Hikianilia. Her 13-person crew traveled some 2,800 miles over 23 days from Honolulu to Half Moon Bay, California, to raise awareness about the dire state of our oceans. Instead of GPS, the crew used traditional Polynesian wayfinding techniques, taking cues from the sun, stars, waves and birds. Lehua was born in New York and raised in Hawaiʻi, and holds a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Hawaiʻi. She’s been involved with the Polynesian Voyaging Society since 2009.
