They usually lack family planning knowledge and access. As a result, they have many children; compounding their financial challenges to look after the children. Access to health care facilities is also a challenge. Some clinics are far away, and some are not affordable. The HIV and AIDS scourge has adversely affected the disabled as they have been excluded in special education on the disease as far as prevention, management and treatment. There are no readily available materials in Braille for the blind. Some disabled are physically and sexually abused. By the time the abuse is discovered it will be too late to get proper and correct treatment.  Rebuttal I agree with these issues wholeheartedly. The fact that the community with disabilities have compounded issues from needing assistive technology to live a somewhat “normal” life, to fighting for equal access to treatment, and various other necessities; having accessible materials such as pamphlets printed in Braille should also be readily available to the masses. I understand healthcare is very expensive and that even those without a disability also may not afford insurance, but there should be a way to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to all; disabled, or not. I get that funding is always the go to issue in all matters, and I hope someday that won’t be. I know we are currently in a crisis with the COVID-19 pandemic and everyone is still recovering. I just feel that when this pandemic becomes more manageable. Our entire Government both local and federal need to find a way to make healthcare as a whole a priority and more affordable. I don’t have any ideas at the moment, but I’m sure you my faithful listeners do have some ideas. Marlon Molinos – "it doesn't matter how a disability or situation is acquired. The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless and you are the only one that sets your own limits.  Featured Song: Kelsea Ballerini - High School The disabled persons lack equal opportunities to attain education. This is due to discriminatory practices that have always looked down the disabled. The able-bodied children are given first priority to attain education. For the disabled even if there are opportunities to attend school most schools may not be accessible or far away. The majority of the disabled persons also require special schools who are very few and cannot accommodate even those disabled who can’t afford due to geographical challenges. Rebuttal As with everything in life, there is a price that needs to be paid to get it. Education is no different. Setting a goal such as getting your high school diploma, or degree is definitely achievable as I am living proof of someone who has gotten his degree. Although it's true that education is not in some situations as important, it is definitely one of the most satisfying achievements I have been able to complete. In other situations, getting your degree can make a difference between getting an entry-level job, or the career of your choice. In reality, success is really in the eye of the beholder. You shouldn't shy away from getting a higher level of education because of your dictation, or disability. Nowadays, most if not all educational institutions have an office that helps people with disabilities get reasonable accommodations while attending classes. In my personal opinion, everyone has their reasons for not chasing that goal or dream, and although they are all pretty good reasons; you should not use those reasons to stop you from chasing your dream. Try setting easy goals for yourself like getting your kids to bed early so they can wake up early to get ready to go to school and when you get them to school early enough that gives you more time to set new goals for the day. Even adding a reward for yourself for accomplishing a goal can be the motivation for accomplishing that goal. Being educated doesn’t really mean that you need to get a degree as talked about above. Education comes in many forms and you should choose the one that fits you. Life is a large classroom that spits out lessons on the daily and you need to look at each setback as a learning tool and accomplishments as your reward for learning from it. I know for most of us that’s easier said than done, but when you do that, trust me you’ll be a better person for it.   Marlon Molinos – "it doesn't matter how a disability or situation is acquired. What matters is how you overcome, survive, and thrive with it."

(Hosted & Produced by Marlon “Shymar” Molinos) Air Date: Wednesday, 12/18/2019 The View from Chair Level is a talk show that discusses various topics from the viewpoint of Marlon Molinos an individual living with Cerebral Palsy since birth. The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless, and you are the only one that sets your own limits.  Featured Song: Taylor Swift - Change Disabled persons also suffer from socio / emotional and psychological challenges due to the way society view the disabled. People usually pass comments and remarks that are insensitive. Generally, people even use derogatory words when referring to the disabled persons e.g. Chimera-disabled. Sometimes they are not even counted as humans and are referred to as disabled-chimera. It is for this reason the word disabled is being substituted with physically or mentally challenged. These societal attitudes are found at all levels from family, Government level and international level. For instance, the 2016 Para Olympics had difficulties in finding sponsors for the tournament yet the tournament for the able bodied had no difficulties in being sponsored. Rebuttal: It’s not surprising to see and hear that life for those with disabilities have faced and continue to face ignorance and unfair treatment as society continues to evolve. For those affected with disabilities, it is up to us to educate, and advocate for our needs. We need to stop taking things personally when we meet someone who is not educated with how to interact with the disabled. As with all movements, equality for disabilities require a little bit of finesse and understanding on both sides. We can't just go in guns blazing. Even when the disabled decide to enter into marriages, it affects them as they are stigmatized. Superstitious beliefs frown at marriages between an able body and a disabled person. It is regarded as a bad omen by the family of the able-bodied person. Able bodied persons are not so keen to marry the physically challenged. Even when the disabled person find a partner, he/she may not be accepted. Rebuttal: in some ways I can understand and empathize with the family because from the non-disabled perspective, being with a disabled person from the start of the relationship can bring a feeling of being burdened by the added pressure of not only taking care of the household, but the disabled person as well. From the disabled person’s perspective, we already have the added feeling of being inadequate because of our disability. Finding that one person who loves us no matter our short comings is a blessing that we hold dear. The one thing that should be taken from being with someone who is disabled is that we are very committed people when we see that our partners are truly committed to us. The extended family will always have their doubts, but isn’t that the same with all families? Being married to someone with a disability doesn’t guarantee a perfect marriage, but like with all marriages; the goal is to find that one person who makes you feel like you can do anything and if you find them, hold on tight and enjoy each other’s company. Beside the traditional beliefs that disabled persons could have committed abominable sins, some healing and deliverance churches have joined the band wagon, added to the psychological. They cast aspersions towards the disabled and view the disabled as lacking in faith when they are not healed after being prayed for. This shows how difficult it is for disabled to integrate with the rest of society. Rebuttal: It’s sad, but true. The truth is no matter what we do whether it’s to educate or advocate, there will always be those whose faith and beliefs are so strong that we can’t change their minds. We can only do so much. It has taken me many years to finally accept my disability to where I chose to look at it as a cause to inspire through my actions. I truly believe that I am not a mistake and that god made me this way to help inspire and educate the masses. I see now that everything I have done from the experiences I’ve had and the accomplishments I have done has led me to help inspire in my own way. As a society, we need to change our attitudes towards our fellow man and keep evolving to a higher place because if we don’t try to change then we will ultimately be left behind. Marlon Molinos – "it doesn't matter how a disability or situation is acquired. What matters is how you overcome, survive, and thrive with it."

The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless, and you are the only one that sets your own limits.  Featured Song: Brian McKnight - Win The disabled have difficulties in accessing various facilities. They cannot easily maneuver due to the discriminatory manner buildings were built. Even where some buildings have provisions for wheelchairs, disabled persons may require additional assistance to maneuver. They also suffer challenges when using public transport which is the most affordable transport for them. Some operators shun the disabled as they do not cater for the space to accommodate the wheelchair even where it is foldable. The way the vehicles are designed also make it difficult for the disabled to board the vehicles. Before considering suing as that should be the final option, it is always best to discuss with the business or individual what your issues were and if there was a way for you to be accommodated. Life is too short to cause such harm to the individual so show them the law and explain it, so they understand what needs to be fixed to be accessible. Response: Time has come a long way with the help of the ADA. It has been required by law to provide accessibility to buildings, public restrooms, and vehicles used for public transportation no exceptions. Any business or individual who doesn’t follow is in violation and can be sued by the individual for noncompliance. Suing someone is the last step that you should take when dealing with a noncompliant individual or business. Most of the time, most businesses will comply by making some reasonable accommodations so that the individual can be involved or use the establishment. This does not excuse the business or individual for not being in compliance with the ADA. If the business, or individual serves the public; they must ensure that they are in compliance. Use of modern and rural toilets (Blair) is also a challenge. Some disabled are unable to sit comfortably and some have to be escorted to the toilet or some have to feel the dirty toilet pans through touching to ensure they are in the right place. The unavailability of the appliances e.g. wheelchairs and artificial limbs result in some disabled having to crawl or being carried on the back in order for them to be move from one place to another. Response: it's sad but true. Individuals who are blind must feel their way around their environment to make a mental map of their location. Having to touch the rim of the toilet to ensure that they sit on it properly is something that is unavoidable. Having a disability, no matter what it is, require some sort of dependency on other people. It's true that the ultimate goal is for us to feel independent, but the truth of the matter is; is that the fight for accessibility in regard to be fully accessible environment is just a dream at the moment. Not to say that this dream won't come true, but we are still a long way to go. Disable persons cannot successfully participate in sporting activities effectively. Their talents are never realized because there is little opportunities to participate at all levels. Those who may have been luckily identified will have to access special appliances or facilities in order to participate. Most of the appliances come dear and facilities expensive to maintain. Considering their poor economic status, it becomes a pipe dream. Response: I can relate to some extent about it being a pipe dream, but in recent years that dream has become more real than just a dream thanks again to the ADA. More and more activities have been made readily accessible to people with disabilities. There have also been some programs that are specialized for specific disabilities, so that those affected with a particular disability such as cerebral palsy like myself are able to participate and be active. The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless and you are the only one that sets your own limits.  Featured Song: Bob Marley - Bob Marley - Buffalo Soldier Background to Challenges Disability is viewed different by different people based on their socio economic positions. For us Africans, disability is viewed as spiritual a curse despite medical explanations proffered. For the West; disability is a natural phenomenon that is explained by medical theories taking for example, the Polio outbreak that affected many children in the late 1950s and the 1960's.Such different perceptions from people therefore attract different interventions from the Government. The challenges that disabled persons suffer range from physical (structural), emotional, economic, and psychological, education, culture and health/medical .The complexity of disability is that it is associated with poverty. Disabled persons face a myriad of economic challenges. Mostly they arise out of the discrimination that they face from family, institutional and central government level. They are less or not educated at all.  Their level of participation in the economic arena is thus limited. They are unlikely to be accorded equal access to programs that empower the general populace. Rebuttal: The goal of a disabled individual is the same as everyone, to contribute to society. As with all social movements, there are many setbacks and prejudices. Ultimately as time passed, laws were created to ensure equality for the disabled, i.e. the ADA. Despite laws being passed, we the disabled are still discriminated for one reason or another. I get that discrimination will always be a constant, but all we want is to be a resource adding to the community’s contributions. We just need someone to see the potential of what we can bring to the table and look past our short comings i.e. our disability. The one thing that everyone should think about before pre-judging a person’s inabilities are to consider how that person views the world. An autistic person may have other attributes such as an artistic eye that can provide an employer with the asset they need to better express the message of their company, product, or service. The employer just needs to be open-minded to the different ways of expressing one’s self to the other.  Due to these economic reasons their medical needs cannot be adequately catered for they cannot even afford to acquire special appliances to aid them with their crutches, wheelchairs, hearing aids, Braille, and artificial limbs etc. The lack of resources creates a circle of poverty to the disabled as they least afford to send their own children to school. This means even at their old age where they cannot even do the menial jobs of vending, they do not have children who can assist them financially since the children will also be struggling financially. Rebuttal: Over the year more and more programs are becoming available to the community with disabilities and their families to ensure that they become contributing members of society. It boils down to what you need to be a contributor. On Guam in particular, there are programs available to assist with job search like DVR and the One Stop Career Center, Transportation such as the Para Transit system, GHURA for housing, MIP and Food stamps for food and medical needs, etc. and DSS for assistance in connecting individuals to different programs by helping clients navigate through all the red tape to minimize confusion and stress through the application process of programs that a person may need to access.   Yes, people with disabilities go through economic challenges just like everyone. We just need to surround ourselves with the people who can see the potential diamond in the rough and work with the system to get what we need to become contributors to our community. Becky G: Oath Many people are reluctant to join support groups. But getting support isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a tool that can help you live a balanced and healthy life. I totally agree with this statement because when you have a disability the issue of self confidence and self worth comes into question. Yes, having issues with self-confidence and low self-esteem affects everyone, not just those of us with disabilities. It’s just a lot more difficult for those with disabilities to accept and understand because most disabling conditions are hard to hide and are often what causes the low self-esteem and confidence issues. I’ve dealt with those issues my whole life. Trying to overcome my own challenges everyday as the years passed help to build my self-esteem and gave me the confidence I needed to be out in my community and live a seemingly normal life. Despite all of this, I still struggle with self-esteem and confidence issues because it’s a natural part of life. I often questioned why I was given this challenge and I often felt depressed and questioned my life as a whole.  As I sit here and reflect, I realized how hard I made things for my family. Always asking for help to do the simplest things until I joined my support group Special Olympics Guam, who showed me how to do things on my own with a few reasonable accommodations and modifications to my daily living. They showed me a different way to look at a situation and tweak it to fit me. This is a lesson I use to this day.   In previous episodes, I talked about having a support system and joining a group that promotes a positive message of inclusion is definitely a great way to build up ones confidence and self-esteem.  Having that support group to talk to when you feel like life is putting you down is great to have because at times having a disability can be very difficult to accept especially when you get it through an accident of some sort. Being surrounded by people who have gone through similar traumatic situations who were able to get through them can help you see the light at the end of that proverbial tunnel. Believe me, having a disability is not the end of the world. Just think of it as a brand new adventure. Take whatever time you need to mourn the loss of your previous life as an able bodied person and embrace the new life you have as a person with a disability. Lean on that support group to help show you how to live your new life. They will definitely give you a new perspective if you open yourself to this new adventure.    Marlon Molinos – "it doesn't matter how a disability or situation is acquired. The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless and you are the only one that sets your own limits.  Featured Song: MKTO - American Dream Many people with cerebral palsy find that the condition’s effects are lessened when they remain independent in their communities. If completely independent living isn’t an option, consider in home care. A caregiver can help with essential tasks like driving, dressing, and cooking, while helping you stay comfortably in your own home. Living independently is definitely a great dream to have and for those who were able to achieve it, kudos to you.  I feel that Independent living doesn’t mean moving out of your childhood home and finding your own place. You can still live where you grew up and be independent. I still live in my childhood home and despite that, I consider myself an independent person. Look at the benefits of living at home, there’s no rent, yes you pay for utilities but that’s what you do as an independent person. Leaching off on family to do everything for you including paying bills is not being independent, but living at home while you contribute to the bills, now that’s living independently.  For me, being fully independent is getting an accessible vehicle and driving myself around. I do use the transit system and I’m grateful for it, but again it’s the fact that I have to depend on others to get me around instead of depending on myself. The dream of driving may be one of those dreams that won’t come true, but for the most part I still consider myself an independent person.  Again it’s all about perception and how you see your situation. For example, if I were to just focus on the fact that I don’t drive as the reason why I don’t consider myself an independent person, then the mindset of not being independent will remain and hold me back, but if I focused on the other things in life that I do like going out and being involved in the community on my own then I can definitely say I’m living independently.  Hearing negative thoughts are great to hear, so you can stay grounded and connected to your friends and family, but limit how much negative things you take in so you are still able to reach your dreams. If your goal is to live independently then change your mindset and start thinking that you are independent and do things on your own that you thought you weren’t able to do before like doing simple chores around the house. Start small and work your way up. Believe me, it took me years to get to the level of independence that I’m at today. It took a lot of time and patience for me to prove to my family and friends how independent I can be that I’ve been able to go out on my own to accomplish my goals of finishing college and establishing myself in my community. Having access to technology to help everyone is definitely great. Don’t get me wrong, having a disability that stops you from living a “normal life” sucks and it can cause those affected with a disability to be very depressed and unsure of how to live independently. I can say that as technology improves and believe me it will, living with a disability will eventually no longer be looked at as a major concern. The one thing that you need to think of is that if there’s a need, someone will create it, so even if you think of a certain technology or cure is unavailable or doesn’t exist, believe me someone will make it. Reduce the risk of bone breaks from falls by getting sufficient Vitamin D, and strength training with light weights, if possible. The more I think about this topic, the more it makes me think about how I’ve been living my life and all the possible regrets of things I could've done growing up. Should I have been working out more, would things have changed for me if I had been more focused on my physicality as far as making sure that when I get up in the morning the first thing that I should have done was put in a little exercise. Yes, I could've thought of all that and reflect on what ifs, but I've always said to myself that I can't change the past. The only thing I could do now is just see what I can do to make my future better. The fear of my bones breaking as I get older does scare me, but I have always been the kind of person that has always thought to myself that everything you do, good or bad has led to the life you have. You still have the free will to decide on your future options. Ms. Walker talks about making sure that as a person with Cerebral Palsy it’s best to keep your bones strong, so it doesn’t break. I can understand that and I guess the only thing to do that I choose to do is find some vitamin D and possibly control my eating habits. This I can do. Life is all about choices. As with everything else, what we choose to do, and the decisions we make; shapes who we are meant to be. I can’t say that every decision I’ve made was the best one, but I can say that every decision made in my adult life up to now has been mine to make and not forced by anyone else.  It’s always best to take friends and family’s advice into consideration as they always have your best interest at heart, but the final decision is always yours and you deal with those consequences every day. Staying healthy can help stave off any more illnesses related to old age. I admit that this is something I agree with, but never do. I don’t have an excuse and I don’t plan on giving one. It boils down to one thing and for me it’s being motivated. I guess what would work for me is having someone there to push me. But I have to warn you, I'm a very stubborn guy. So what I do to stay as healthy as I can, or at least feel well enough to go on with my day, is control my diet and eating habits. Yes at times it gets a bit difficult to do, but for me it kind of works. Now I'm not saying that this is something you should do; what I'm telling you is to find a physical activity, or sport that you can get into that will help you stay healthy. Because if you find something to do that you love, especially if it's something that can help you stay healthy, then you will continue to stay active in that activity. I guess I still trying to find my activity or sport that I can immerse myself in that can help me stay healthy. I do promise you one thing though, when I find that activity, or sport. I will make sure to continuously be active in that activity. For those of you who have found your sport, or activity all I was saying is keep it up because you remain an inspiration to everyone especially those with disabilities may feel that they still can't do anything. Marlon Molinos – "it doesn't matter how disability, or a situation is acquired. What matters is how you overcome, survive, and thrive with it."

The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless and you are the only one that sets your own limit Featured Song: DAVID GUETTA feat. ZARA LARSSON - This Ones For You Anyone living with Cerebral Palsy (CP) needs a team that can work together to watch over their health long-term. This team may include an orthopedist to treat muscles and bone disorders, an occupational therapist to help develop therapies that help with everyday activities, a mental health provider, and a social worker to help with accessing services. Having a team who has your back is great to have.  The team can give advice on ways that can help you navigate your life living with C.P. My team consists of my family (Dad, Mom, 4 siblings.) as well as my peers from Special Olympics whom I consider as my extended family.  You need to have that support system in place because living with cerebral palsy or any other disability, in general, can cause a high sense of insecurity in an individual with a disability. We are more aware of the things that we are lacking in life as we try to navigate it. Everybody has their insecurities, but believe me having a disability that is so obvious makes a person question their self-worth at times because we are often prejudged about our abilities, or lack thereof before we are even considered for a potential job or activity. I know everybody has their insecurities and you might be asking yourself why is this guy bringing up insecurities so much? And the reason for that is because we are so aware of how people see us, that we feel more pressure to prove ourselves to the other individual. People say life isn't fair and often times that is true. It's our challenges in life that shape who we become as people in the community. When you're presented with a disability you have to ask yourself a question. Do I sit here and soak and let life pass me by, or do I get up and live life to the best of my ability? I chose the latter. Having a support system, or "team" that has your best interest at heart is always the best thing to have. No one should navigate life on their own. Having a team gives you confidence, support, and humility. The reason why humility is in there is that when a person discovers they have a disability, they feel that the world owes them and that they can't do things without expecting support. I will say this again life isn't fair, so it's up to you to make do with what you have. If you feel you don't have that support system like family members and not many friends then make some friends. Find people who will tell you straight your face if you're doing things wrong, or if you're doing things right. People and the world don't owe us anything. We are living in this world like everyone else. We just have to live life differently than everyone else. You do have the right to feel the way you do as far as feeling like everyone owes you, but if you want to continue to have that support, you need to be able to work with each other and accept the differences that everyone has.  We can only survive if we have support and without the support then we can survive. A team doesn't really have to be just family. I do have some friends with disabilities who may not have a supportive family system, so to them, I say find another form of support for yourselves. Remember we can't live life on our own. We need friends and support in order to survive, so remember, always have a heart and be considerate of others because, without their support, we will not survive. Life is not always gray. It's colorful and vibrant and yes we often never get what we want, but we often get what we need. We are never given anything we cannot handle, so remember, if you feel like you can't do things and if you feel like an activity is hard to do, find a different way to get it done. "It doesn't matter how disability or situation is acquired. What matters is how you overcome, survive, and thrive with it. – Marlon R. Molinos

The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless and you are the only one that sets your own limits.  Featured Song: Nico Vega - I Believe (Get Over Yourself) This topic has been on my mind for the longest time. I guess it took me a while to finally type my thoughts out about it.  As I go through my daily grind I see people out and about going to work, school, or whatever activity they have planned for the day. Since I am months away from graduating with a bachelor’s degree in my chosen career in communications I felt it was time to explore the concept of the perfect career path. Normally it is difficult to decide on a chosen profession. Most students take their time settling into a major while others like me already knew what we wanted to be in life. The mantra that I live by is if it’s not fun why do it? It’s always best to try and get a job the falls within your interests because if it does, you will always want to go to work instead of making up excuses to skip work. For some, they get lucky and stumble into their chosen career. However you end up choosing just make sure it is a choice that you can grow into.  I know generally the careers we choose are out of necessity to provide for our family and that is fine just don’t lose track of that dream by making excuses to not pursue it.  There are so many options to consider pursuing your dream job. An option is working on your dream job part-time. As long as you stop making excuses to not follow your dreams, then the dream is achievable. In my case it has taken me many years in gaining many experiences in the field to get to this point in my life, the degree is just the icing on the longest time a cake has ever been baked LOL, or maybe we can look at it as fine wine because finally getting that degree and getting the opportunities that I’ve gotten is truly a career worth waiting for. I heard that God often has a plan for everyone and I guess his plan for me was a seed that needed time to grow so I can reap it when it blooms. Remember! The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless and you are the only one that sets your own limits.    Featured Song: For King & Country – It’s Not Over Yet According to the Oxford dictionary, Limitation is defined as a condition of limited ability; a defect or failing. Society always assumes that because a person has a disability, that person is not able to do anything. Being judged for whatever reason is usually a common thread in society. Whether you know it, or not you are being judged every single day. Having a limitation can make you feel worthless and unsure of yourself, and trust me having a disability is one limitation that can sometimes be a hard pill to swallow. One thing is for sure once you know your limitations and overcome them, a great feeling of accomplishment will overtake you and you become excited. Everyone from around the world has their limitations, the only thing is whether you accept your limitation and overcome it, or let it hinder you from accomplishing your goals. For example in my situation I’m not able to walk, which means I use a motorized wheelchair to get around. My left hand is weak and looks different than anyone else's, and I am not able to reach really high areas sitting down. The way I overcome these challenges is 1) because I have a limited ability to stand for a short time, I do what I can to stand up and hold something to balance while I try to reach for something up above. 2) Because my left hand is not able to operate properly, the things that I can do with it is hold something in place by putting pressure on that object as well as clasping it in my hand. In regards to computers, I use my left hand to hold the shift, or control key while my "normal hand" does everything else. Some limitations may not be as visible to everyone else. Some limitations are so minimal that a person has to really pay attention for that limitation to show itself. For example, a person with autism who takes medication may not show symptoms of autism, but they have a specific skill and ability that is so focused that it can blow a person's mind as far as how intricate their abilities really are. For example, a person whose autistic may not be able to express themselves properly, but given the right activity such as art, music, math, or anything else for that matter; that they excelled in can be used to show how their mind truly works and it will definitely surprise just about anyone. Life gives us all different abilities and strengths, and no one has the right to tell you that you can't do anything without at least giving you the opportunity to show them what you can do. Truth be told, first impressions are always going to be there, so the only thing you can do is prove yourself on a daily basis. The only suggestion is that you shouldn't prejudge a person based on first impression because these impressions can lead you the wrong way. Every day is a challenge for everyone and everyone's challenges are all different, so don't assume that you have it bad because someone else may have it worse than you. Always try to approach a situation with an open mind and without any prejudgments and you will always be the better person for it. “It doesn’t matter how a disability is acquired, what matters is how you overcome, survive, and thrive with it.” Episode & Survey Access: Itunes Spotify Google play Music Patreon Donation page   Please fill out this demographic survey to help me provide the best show possible:

The View From Chair Level Ep. 4 Stages of Grief & Disability

(Hosted & Produced by Marlon “Shymar” Molinos) The View From Chair Level is a talk show that discusses various topics from the viewpoint of Marlon Molinos an individual living with Cerebral Palsy since birth. The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless and you are the only one that sets your own limits.  Feature Song: Coldplay – Up & up The stages of grief are exactly the same as getting to the point of accepting the fact that you have a disability. Whether you are born with or acquire a disability, getting to the stage of acceptance is a journey of its own. No one can really truly know what life they are expected to have. The Lord is the only one that has the roadmap of your life and is the only one who knows where you'll end up. Denial When you first realize you have a disability, the first thing that goes to your mind is "no, no, why me. This can't be real. What am I going to do now? In regards to the family, parents might feel overwhelmed and unsure of what to do next. Those who have a strong sense of self worth and a never give up attitude will most likely put their thinking cap on and figure out alternative ways to overcome their current situation. Others will just completely shut down and not want to interact with anyone for a while. It's always great to have a strong support system whether it be family, friends, etc. to help get that person off this stage. Their goal is to help the person realize there is more to life than just sitting around and feeling sorry for yourself. To the support system, never allow them to push you around and give themselves a pity party. Eventually once they realize that they have this strong support system, they will end up moving to the next stage.  Anger In this stage, once the person realizes they have a disability they tend to get into a frenzy and kind of have a hair trigger because they're starting to realize that they can't do things the way they normally did before acquiring this disability. In this situation as friends, and family you need to give them a bit of tough love and help them realize that you're not going to always be around for them and they would have to learn how to do things differently than they used to do. In other words change your floor plan. As a recent person with a disability, you might need to find some form of assistive technology that will help give you a sense of normalcy. Assistive technology have improved so much in recent years that it blows one's mind. In Bargaining In this stage, a disabled person might say "if you do this for me I promise I will not give you a hard time." Of course that is unrealistic because at this stage the person is still trying to figure out how they're going to do things now that they have a disability. The one thing that will happen for sure is they tend to ask God why me? If only I did this I wouldn't have been disabled.” The family members might feel responsible and say "I wish it was me in that chair and not you. Possibly the person who was driving if a person became disabled due to an accident might also say “I'm sorry, I'm sorry, that should have been me." All these things that you do at this stage as far as bargaining goes, is pretty much promising unrealistic things and goals that you will for sure not be able to complete. As a support system, the only thing you can do if you feel at fault is to try and find a way to come to terms with the idea that this was God's plan. As I mentioned before only he has the roadmap to our lives and whether we caused the disability are not, this stage is going to always be something that a disabled person and their support system will go through, so please stop giving yourself such a hard time because you will eventually come to understand that obtaining a disability at this stage of your life was meant to be. Depression As with death, depression in regards to disability is pretty much the same. The person with a disability may not want to get out of the house, or do anything because they are still in the state of shock and as I mentioned before, they are still getting to the point of accepting the fact that they have a disability. For the support system, all you can do is try and stay positive for them and try to see them as they were because if you tend to put a spotlight on the fact that they have a disability, then a lot of self-doubt will arise. As with everybody else self-doubt for a person with a disability is pretty strong because they have something that for the most part cannot be covered up. So for sure, insecurities and self-doubt will definitely be an ongoing struggle. Acceptance As the final stage of grief, accepting the fact that you have a disability and realizing that this situation will never change is pretty much the only thing you can and should do at this point. When you learn to accept your disability and learn a different way to do everyday things, it's the one thing that helps you feel so empowered because you start to see that having a disability as with everybody else makes you a unique person and trust me you tend to create and develop a different perspective of everything life throws at you at this point. The good thing about it is if you were a person who was able to walk, you have that experience of how it felt to be that kind of person who was able to drive, go where you need to go, and do anything at any given moment. And now that assistive technology has grown to the point that vehicles are now accessible enough that a quadriplegic is able to drive themselves around makes having a disability a lot easier to accept. You never know as medicine improves and more assistive technology gets developed, having the ability to walk when you're born to not be able to walk will now be a thing of the past. Like my mom always says "Keep the faith and pray to God because he will keep you strong.”  Keep a positive attitude and try to see the silver lining with every situation you come across because dwelling on the negativity of the situation will only bring you down. (Hosted & Produced by Marlon “Shymar” Molinos) Featured Song: Imagine Dragons “Demons” The View from Chair Level is a talk show that discusses various topics from the viewpoint of Marlon Molinos an individual living with Cerebral Palsy since birth. The goal of this show is to inspire everyone to look past your limitations and find creative ways to accomplish your daily goals. A free mind is limitless and you are the only one that sets your own limits.  Life tends to bring many unexpected situations. Every day challenges to your schedule will always happen. People can plan all they want, but the truth is a lot of things never come out as planned. For example you might want to go to the beach on a Sunday then find out there's a thunderstorm. What you do? Do you sit there and soak, be upset, and make a fuss the whole day? That is in my opinion the easiest route to take. The one thing to understand is that life always has so many things happening to stop you from fulfilling your goals. What matters is how to deal with the unexpected. It is in my humblest opinion that you can't be upset with everything that goes against you. You have to look at it as another opportunity. For example, going back to the beach scenario; if you plan to go to the beach to spend some time with the family and you realize the weather does not permit it, of course it's upsetting, but your goal of spending time with the family is still a possibility because you can always call them over to your house and in my family's case play little mahjong. You might just want to do a little gathering with some barbecue. The fact of the matter is the goal of spending time with family is still possible. Another example is you planned to leave work early, but something came up and caused you to stay later. Yes it's true it screwed up your plans to spend time with your family because you're not able to see your kids due to the fact that you're working too much, but the upside to this is that one you make more money due to the overtime you make, two all that work you been putting in the back burner is finally able to be completed, and three knowing that you'll be making the additional money due to overtime will eventually pay off in the end because you can use that money to save up for any unexpected issues and potential trips that you would like to plan in the future. You can't dwell on all the negative things that life throws at you, or else anything positive that life has for you will just pass you by. Take any opportunity that comes your way even though you think the opportunity is not for you, who knows you might eventually like this opportunity because you were focusing on the idea of being out of your comfort zone. “It doesn’t matter how a disability is acquired, what matters is how you overcome, survive, and thrive with it.” – Marlon Molinos Episode & Survey Access: Itunes Spotify Google play Music Patreon Donation page Demographic Survey

As someone who has never been in a relationship, I was fortunate enough to observe many different relationships throughout the years thanks to both friends and family. There were some good as well as bad sides to every situation I’ve seen. Watching these relationships unfold showed me that they are fragile and require a lot of work. I hope to provide my insight as to how to keep a relationship strong and provide some ideas that have not yet considered and hope that as a listener; you can take these suggestions to heart and possibly learn from your mistakes through my eyes. They fight with their partner to prove they’re right. This only escalates the problems. However, wherever there are two people there are often two opinions and two perceptions of “how things should be.” When you become aware of what drives you to react and behave in your relationship the way you do, and of the ways in which you might harm your relationship, you become more willing to take responsibility for your part in the problems and difficulties which arise between you and your partner. Taking responsibility shows that you too might be wrong. They give you something to dream about, something to look forward to. You might fantasize that your love will be just like in the movies; that your partner will supply all your needs; that the two of you will do everything together and never fight; that you will always agree on everything. But if your fantasies are unrealistic and you hang on to them you are likely to harm your relationship. Therefore, think over your fantasies and determine whether they are realistic and attainable, or tend to verge on dream-like reality. The last thing you want is to ruin your relationship due to unrealistic fantasies. At the same time, for the sake of the relationship, you want to entertain fantasies which can materialize. The result is an important and attainable one. Please leave your feedback here, or by checking out The Groove Session Facebook page.   (Hosted & Produced by Marlon "shymar” Molinos) (Produced: 8'19'16) Needs you are not aware of might be driving your reactions and behaviors. Are you, for example, driven by the need for love (which might drive you to be too submissive within a relationship?); the need for independence (which might drive you always to keep distance from your partner?), and so on. These needs often affect the way we react and behave in our relationships. When you become aware of your needs and become able to free yourself from the impact they have over your reactions and behaviors, you will be able to behave with your partner in a healthy and mature way.
