Whalehead Deadbear Brainworm-Lamprey went to Austin (where his pal who wants people to get Polio lives) and told the peasants to eat more cheap, nasty cuts of meat. He wasn't talking that way back when he ate veal from my plate aboard a cruise ship in the Caribbean. Bill Clinton puts the lie to Nitwit Nero's claim about when he stopped having anything to do with Epstein. And since they subpoenaed Hillary, they opened the door to deposing Melanoma. NOTE: This was released in May of 2025, but due to life being what it is, I didn't get to finish the final two parts of the episode. So I am rereleasing this episode this week, and the next two weeks I will release the following two episodes. I have now officially backed myself in a corner and I simply MUST finish the episodes now. It would start with a headache, a fever, maybe a funny tummy. But soon enough your knee would give out, or your arm would hang limp, or you would struggle to breathe. You'd be taken to the hospital, where you'd get your diagnosis - polio. If you survived, you ran the risk of doing so with paralyzed limbs, struggling to walk on bulky leg braces. Your parents would be terrified they might lose you, and so everybody wanted the one thing that could stop all of this - a vaccine. A(nother) three-hour FiliRoxster! (If only it wasn't all horror and disgust), but the H.O.R.N. FamilyCommunityCongregation makes it both comprehensible and bearable. That's good because what we have to deal with in this post-Harambe timeline is deeply disturbing. There's a creep out there (natch, he's one of Bobby's pals) who wants people to get POLIO. Then there's Krusti the Nasty Nazi Noem and a blind man freezing to death alone in a city (Buffalo) when her goons dumped him. The H.O.R.N. exists because of the people who have kept it going for 22+ years. we struggle month-to-month to survive; just to pay bills, buy groceries, get new brakes, fill scrips: the very essence of struggling America. Can you help?
Let's talk about Polio making a comeback, Trump, Measles, rates, and risks....

The podcast opens with Susanne Rea and Mukesh Malhotra, the co-founders of the World's Greatest Meal, launched in 2012 with a clear objective: to create a simple and accessible way for Rotary clubs and supporters to raise funds for End Polio Now. The idea encourages people to share a meal and donate what they might otherwise spend on eating out, with events ranging from formal dinners to informal gatherings in homes, workplaces and community venues. The discussion then turns to leadership development in the United Kingdom, with Karen Eveleigh from Faringdon Rotary Club in Oxfordshire outlining the Rotary Developing Future Leaders programme.Developing Future Leaders is an accredited qualification delivered in schools and colleges across England, including mainstream settings and those supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. The podcast is also joined by round-the-world sailor Jasmine Harrison while sailing in the South Atlantic from St Helena to Recife in Brazil on the latest leg of the Mini Globe Race. It is a remarkable interview captured while Jasmine was sailing in the middle of the ocean. The 26-year-old Rotarian from Thirsk in North Yorkshire discusses the voyage so far, and the challenges she now faces in the closing stages of the round-the-world race which finishes in Antigua in March. ---You have been listening to 'Unscripted', the official podcast of Rotary in Great Britain & Ireland.Unscripted is hosted by Dave King and Alicia Reade. If you'd like to find out more about Rotary or join us, visit rotarygbi.org/join and read more stories in Rotary Magazine at magazine.rotarygbi.org.You can listen to our archive wherever you found this podcast. In the early 1950s, Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin were in a race to develop a vaccine against polio. While Salk's killed-virus vaccine was the first to be distributed, Sabin continued working to perfect his own approach. In the end, Sabin's oral polio vaccine—made from a weakened live virus—proved easier to administer and was ultimately distributed far more widely, though his name never achieved the same recognition. In this episode, Lindsay is joined by epidemiologist and oral historian Karen Torghele. Her book Albert Sabin: The Life of a Polio Vaccine Pioneer is due to be published by Yale University Press in June of 2026. Getting vaccinated is a simple step that prevents illnesses like measles, polio-virus and even cervical cancer. But in parts of the Pacific, not everyone is able or willing to access vaccines. Whether it's combating hesitation or limited access, health authorities are working hard to vaccinate as many people in the Pacific for as many preventable diseases as possible. What can women do to support the cause? In Sistas Let's Talk, ABC Radio Australia's Natasha Meten talks about the life-saving importance of vaccines with Tonga's chief medical officer for public health Dr Ofa Tukia, Madang town clinic's nurse in charge Judy Alingou and Sister Litiana Volavola, the national program manager for immunisation in Fiji.
Dr. Howard and Wendy open with a rare sliver of relief: Guinea-Bissau halting an ethically alarming Hepatitis B vaccine trial proposal framed as a "natural experiment" on infants. From there, the episode pivots into the broader breakdown: vaccine leadership rhetoric that treats polio as negotiable and measles as a "real-world learning opportunity," the normalization of losing measles elimination status, and growing fears that autism-focused federal committees are being reshaped to fit a predetermined vaccine agenda. They connect these developments to institutional erosion—NIH advisory panels hollowing out, FDA messages disappearing (including warnings about dangerous "autism cures"), and industry pullback as vaccine trials become politically radioactive. The closing argument is blunt: many of the loudest COVID contrarian voices warned about authoritarian overreach in theory, then aligned with (or enabled) the actual power structures now degrading public health in practice—and the hosts insist the record needs to be preserved so this moment can't be memory-holed later. In April 1954, a group of first graders lined up in the gymnasium of an elementary school in McLean, Virginia for the start of the Salk polio vaccine trials. In an era before widespread federal government involvement in public health, the National Institute of Infantile Paralysis executed an unprecedented experiment involving nearly 2 million children and tens of thousands of doctors, nurses, and volunteers. It was the largest peacetime mobilization in American history. While scientists evaluated the results, Americans waited anxiously to find out whether the vaccine was safe and effective, putting an end to 40 years of fear. But in the spring of 1955, a shocking revelation would bring the vaccination program to a sudden halt.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! It's no exaggeration to say that polio shaped modern medicine. Before a vaccine was available, polio outbreaks left thousands of people paralyzed, with some unable to breathe. But, in 1928, the development of the iron lung meant that, for the first time, humans could rely on a machine to stay alive. In this episode, we trace the rise of polio in the early 20th century, the science behind the virus, and the race to save lives. From early resuscitation experiments to the unexpected inspiration behind the iron lung, we uncover the innovation, ethical dilemmas, and human stories that defined this era, hearing from two people whose early childhoods and families were dramatically shaped by the disease. Episode: 1511 In which the lotus blossom gives a lesson in engineering design. Today, lotus petals and high-tech.
Polio once paralyzed hundreds of thousands of children every year, striking fear into families across the world. Thanks to global vaccination efforts, cases have fallen by 99.9% since 1988. But polio is not gone yet. In this episode of Science in 5, we speak with Dr. Jamal Ahmad about why polio eradication still matters, how close the world truly is to ending this disease forever, and what's at stake if we don't finish the job. Polio spreads easily, respects no borders, and remains a threat as long as it exists anywhere. With only a few cases left in two countries, the tools, knowledge, and partnerships are stronger than ever—but sustained political commitment and global cooperation are essential. Ending polio would mean no child is ever paralyzed by this disease again—and billions saved for health systems worldwide. Make sure you and your family are vaccinated Call on governments to keep supporting eradication Get involved through partners like Rotary Because eradication is all or nothing—and we are closer than ever.
By the late 1940s, the National Institute of Infantile Paralysis had raised millions of dollars to pay for patient care and laboratory research. But polio cases were reaching record levels, and scientists were no closer to a cure. Frustrated by the slow progress, Basil O'Connor resolved to recruit fresh talent to the cause. He soon found what he was looking for in a young and energetic researcher named Jonas Salk.In 1951, Salk began testing a killed virus polio vaccine on monkeys in his Pittsburgh lab. His research soon put him at odds with the leading polio scientist Albert Sabin, who wanted his own live virus vaccine formula to prevail. As their rivalry escalated, Salk prepared to take the risky step of testing his vaccine on human subjects.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more! In 2026, many Western governments have pulled back funding and reduced their commitments to the United Nations. And later this month, the United States will officially withdraw from the World Health Organization. Today, civic organizations like Rotary represent a powerful “third force” in global affairs. For example, in 1988, alongside UNICEF and others, Rotary and the WHO became founding partners of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, or GPEI. The campaign now stands as one of the largest, most successful public health efforts to date. Leadership from the GPEI visited Rotary International Headquarters to discuss the status of the campaign today.
In the summer of 1921, 39-year-old Franklin Delano Roosevelt was on vacation with his family when he developed a fever, muscle aches, and chills. Pain spread to his legs, and soon, he was paralyzed from the waist down. Doctors diagnosed him with polio, which was fast becoming America's most dreaded infectious disease.Every summer, polio struck without warning, causing swimming pools and movie theaters to close and panicked parents to keep their children indoors. Polio killed thousands of Americans each year and paralyzed many more. But scientists had no idea how to stop it.Roosevelt and his friend and colleague Basil O'Connor resolved to change that, launching the March of Dimes, a revolutionary fundraising campaign that galvanized millions of Americans to donate their time and money to the fight against polio.Be the first to know about Wondery's newest podcasts, curated recommendations, and more!
Fabrice Ondoa, merci Merci beaucoup.

Start with a simple truth from Juana Lopez: you choose your path, even with limits. This conversation moves fast and goes deep as we follow Juana's journey from post‑polio paraplegia to leading a VA histopathology team that turns tissue into answers. She walks us through the unseen work of processing biopsies, the precision behind cancer diagnostics, and the human stakes that drive her purpose every day.Juana talks plainly about why she moved for promotion and team fit, how leadership shows up in a lab, and what it takes to build trust between technicians and clinicians. Accessibility threads through every story: strong laws, better technology, and the stubborn gaps that still make daily life harder than it should be. Her empathy test—try the same shoes—becomes a design principle for hospitals, software, and cities alike. The heart of this episode is agency. Juana doesn't deny barriers; she refuses to let them define the horizon. From adaptive workspaces and universal design to culture that welcomes disabled professionals as experts, not exceptions, we map a path where dignity and productivity rise together. If you care about disability inclusion, VA healthcare, cancer diagnostics, or simply living on purpose, you'll find both practical insight and a mindset shift worth keeping.Listen now, share with a friend who needs this perspective, and tell us the choice you're making this week. Subscribe for more conversations that turn grit, access, and design into everyday action, and leave a quick review to help others find the show.
