You are WORTHY of your pain! ( Read and Repeat) In fact, there are no requirements that dictate whether you deserve to feel what is real to you! It's totally human of us to judge and justify our own pain. The truth is we don't like to feel or show our weakness, others so often belittle our pain even with the best intentions, and we live in a comparison society that reminds us to suck it up, because someone else has it worse. BUT, guess what… this coping strategy is total POPPYCOCK (new favorite word)! Today I am going to give you some news about baby #2 and fill you in on how I tripped up myself on this very way thinking. While it's normal to go there, we have to dig ourselves out of it and I am about to tell you why and how! Today's birth story includes a nuchal cord, where the umbilical cord is wrapped around baby's neck one or more times. This amazing home birth comes from Megan Rothenberg who you might remember from episode 15, where we learned of her traumatic first birth. Megan is now a seasoned Home Water Birth Mama and she's back to retell the fresh birth of her 3 month old Eliana. A Nuchal cord might sound pretty scary, but we hope to put you at ease in this episode by sharing some statistics and educating you on the incredible physiology of the women's body. In addition, if you've had any interest in learning about home birth, today Megan and I talk a bit about midwifery practice, how it might differ from the Western medicine OB practice you are used to, and how to get your spouse on board. We hope you enjoy the magic of this episode and walk away feeling like you've learned something. If you loved it, please let us know by writing a review! Too many of us are mis-informed on how we can support optimal baby positioning, abdomen and pelvic floor function through this journey to motherhood. This means many of us are unaware of how our posture, breathing, daily habits, and exercise contribute to a malpositioned baby, incontinence, Diastasis Recti, and a long road to recovery. Today we are talking to Prenatal/Postpartum Yoga and Pelvic Floor Coach Anastacia Drake on our bodies through pregnancy and postpartum. Anastacia is going to help us gain an understanding of how the muscles, ligaments, and bone structure in the uterus, abdomen, pelvis, and pelvic floor operate together, AND teach you practices you can adopt to avoid damage and disfunction to that mom bod. Even if you’ve been lucky enough to have never experienced any of this in your journey, you will not be disappointed by all you learn about your incredible body in this episode. Sarah's birth didn't go exactly to plan, in fact some may see some parts of her birth as traumatic. However, when she thinks back to the events and how she felt, it's all still "beautiful." You see, Sarah's sister-in-law experienced a traumatic birth. Her story scared her and she knew that she would need to be prepared and well supported for the birth of her own little girl. A long birth center labor and ultimately a transfer to the hospital are among a few of the detours along the way. But because she had put in the work, prepared mentally, and built a dream team of care providers and family, she felt empowered by her birth. While birth can be unpredictable and often doesn't go according to the "birth plan," it doesn't mean you aren't in control of you and your baby's story. Knowledge is BIRTH power. In the case of labor and delivery it's how you remain in control of your body, your baby, and your birth experience. It is because of Sarah's story, that her sister-in-law is now considering having a second child. Mamas empowering other mamas, that's what we are about! Please WRITE A REVIEW and share how these stories are empowering YOU! Today you'll hear about birth plans, birth center midwifery care, long labors, urinary catheters, birth mantras, informed consent, hospital transfer, appropriately utilized Pitocin, postpartum hemorrhage, and birth preferences. After her non medically indicated induction and 8 days in the NICU, Sarah was happy to finally be bringing her baby girl home. However, once home the trauma hit and she struggled to bond with her daughter. When she decided to speak up about her postpartum bonding experience and her birth, she received the support she needed and began to make the connection with her sweet girl. Today Sarah shares her story to encourage moms like you to educate and advocate for yourself, to ask questions, and understand that if you're not connecting with your new miracle as you expected you would, that you're not alone. This episode speaks to unnecessary induction, failed induction, risks of cesarean section, VBAC, postpartum bonding with baby, birth trauma, and postpartum support. Life in uncertainty can be all consuming. Whether you are trying to conceive, experiencing pregnancy after miscarriage, or living through the many struggles in motherhood, we must learn to surrender. Today we have the pleasure of learning from a queen of mom-spiration herself, Samantha Kellgren. After 2 miscarriages I felt the need to be open to change, to seek a deeper understanding of my current health, to explore new avenues within fertility health, and find new ways to bring more peace to my womb. Today I want to share my successful conception journey, what I did different, what I learned, and how I am feeling NOW at 22 weeks. While I may never be able prove that these changes are why this 3rd pregnancy stuck, I do believe that through the help of Eastern medicine and Holistic health I was able to preserve the energy I needed to grow this baby. This conception journey brought a whole new awareness to my mind and body and exposed truly common sense conclusions of imbalances and deficiencies that may have been affecting my fertility health. My hope is that this episode inspires you to explore, sparks interest in the marriage of Eastern and Western medicine, and encourages to you see changes and uncertainty as an opportunity to learn more about yourself, your body, and the value of right now. Marisa Kimmel is with us today and her story is one you will not soon forget. She's a mama of a beautiful two year old boy and the way she navigates motherhood so honestly is truly inspiring. Through growing up with Alopecia (hair-loss) and now having made the decision to get a preventative double mastectomy, Marisa sees that her responsibility and gift as a mother is to be open through the good and bad. She wants her son to know that emotions are normal, that it's ok to feel them and accept them. She sees opportunity through her own day-to-day struggles to teach him empathy, compassion, and that the village of support in our lives are there to do just that…help when we need it. Her story will remind you to be kind to yourself, to love yourself and your body as it exists, that you are beautiful just as you are. It's also a reminder that our children learn just as much, if not more from our struggles and transformations in life, and that there is no pressure to be perfect, but to simply be human. Today we're speaking on that tough journey to motherhood, the one many of us experience by surprise and often all too quietly. Tiffany Griffin hadn't spoken of her multiple miscarriage story in a long time, but today recalls those four years she put behind her. As she relives this story she is reminded of just how hard that road was, how she coped by simply looking forward, and ultimately uncovered some lessons she wishes to offer all the mamas listening. Tiffany hopes her story inspires moms to hold onto that vision of their family, and to not be scared out of the journey. She wants to encourage moms to speak to their partners and family who are experiencing the loss with them, allow emotions to be heard, and healing to happen through mutual support. Lastly, she wants to remind us all that it's our job to educate our children, so that they may seek comfort instead of isolation should they endure such loss. Sharing stories like these and enlightening our collective is how we rid of this isolation culture when it comes to miscarriage. Please help us in our mission and SHARE! Many of us spend most of our pregnancy researching and planning our birth, but do little preparation for one of the biggest, first hurdles in motherhood… breastfeeding. Today IBCLC Alicia Duncan is back and we have put together 2 episodes dedicated to preparing you for your best breastfeeding journey possible ( lots of prayer hands here). In part 1 we will cover learning hand expression, collecting colostrum before baby arrives, importance of skin-to-skin, first-latch/ golden hour, how exactly the baby effectively extracts milk, milk production, engorgement and how to handle it, should you pump or should you offer a pacifier in those early days, how often should you feed and for how long, and why it's ok for baby to pacify at the breast. Truly much of our conversation today revolves around what those early days will look like, thinking about it all from the baby's perspective, and what you can do to set yourself up for success. We've created a downloadable Prenatal and Beyond Breastfeeding Resource Guide just for you! You can find it in the Mama Collective FB page, OR on my website: https://www.mamainspired.com/breastfeeding-guide. We hope you ate all this up and that you will share it with all your mamas-to-be! When I found out Miles had been starving at 2 weeks, our incredibly hard breastfeeding journey began. We fought for the first 6 months of his life, rebuilding my milk supply, supplementing with donor milk, navigating nipple shields, breast pumps, supplemental nursing systems, weaning off the bottle back to the breast, and then correcting latch and breaking him from clamping down when nursing. It has been the hardest piece of my motherhood journey, but also the most rewarding. There were many weeks where I had to just tell myself to make it through that present day and if I still wanted to quit in the next I could. Each day I found renewed energy, strength, and dedication. My story is a testament to the value of support. No way would I have made it without my husband, my sister, lactation support, and my friends. Thankfully most breastfeeding stories don't look like mine. However, if you find yourself struggling and you want to fight for this, I hope my story reminds you that it will get better and it will be beautiful. I'll be over here rooting you on Mama! The breastfeeding journey will most likely be the beginning of discovering who you are as a mother, what's important to you, what's priority for your baby, and what path you will take out of the best interest for ALL of you. The BEST choice might be, to end your breastfeeding journey and begin to formula feed. Chelsea Baker wanted to breastfeed her baby, but a lack of lactation support, a bad latch, loss of milk supply, and postpartum anxiety began to affect her mental health. She was not able to enjoy this anticipated bonding with baby and it quickly became a source of stress and discomfort. In an effort to enjoy these beautiful, yet still so hard early days of motherhood Chelsea and her husband made the decision to formula feed their son Calloway. Chelsea wants mamas to know that the best choice for you and baby shouldn't include a sacrifice of your mental health and that a formula fed baby will still thrive. Welcome to Part 2 of my chat with Lactation Consultant, Alicia Duncan where we discuss realistic expectations of the breastfeeding journey for first time moms or those reborn. As we laid out in Part 1, breastfeeding is often so much harder than we anticipate it to be. While it doesn't have to be AS HARD as if often is, the reality is that it WILL be tough at least for a period of time. It's important to remember that not only did you give birth to a baby, but also a mother. Everything is new for ALL of you and as you learn your baby, your baby learns you. With some preparation, the right support, patience, grace, and trust… breastfeeding can be a beautiful part of your journey. We hope you enjoyed the content in these episodes. We also hope you are looking forward to more. If so, GOOD NEWS! We will be ending this breastfeeding series with another episode on PREPARING YOU for breastfeeding. The goal will be to send you off on your own journey with an understanding of what is normal, so you may fully trust that mother's instinct should you need additional help along the way. Have you ever seen a mother latch her baby at the breast? What are/were your expectations of your breastfeeding journey and did it match the reality? Today we are talking with IBCLC Lactation Consultant, Alicia Duncan on WHY breastfeeding is so much harder than we expect it to be and how we might change the narrative around this beautiful, yet skewed part of motherhood. From efforts at first latch, lack of breastfeeding support, nursing in public, opinions on attachment parenting, sexualization of breasts, methods of breastfeeding, to the simple lack of exposure or knowledge, mamas are experiencing this journey in a society that isn't as breastfeeding supportive as it is opinionated. We want this message to be clear, breastfeeding is not easy and so many things can make it near impossible amongst your postpartum journey. Breastfeeding for many of us is the start of finding our way in motherhood and establishing what is important for mama, baby and family. No matter the length of baby's time at the breast, be proud of your efforts and the strength it took to do what was right for YOU. Breastfeeding is something many of us prepare so little for. So often a mother's milk journey is told with tears and admissions of being unprepared for something that was supposed to be so easy and natural. Laura's breastfeeding story may feel familiar. She did all the things to give her daughter Ivetta Mae the best nourishment, from pumping night and day, lactation support, donor milk supplementation, pumping affirmations, daily doses of oatmeal, brewers yeast, and fenugreek, to the difficult decision of surrendering to formula feeding. Laura wants you to know that nourishing your baby goes beyond how they are fed. She wants you to know that if your efforts end in a formula fed babe, your'e still a good, NO fantastic Mama. Lastly, Laura urges expectant mamas to prepare for the unexpected. Listen to her story and learn what you can. Knowing your options and having the knowledge could be an invaluable piece of your own journey. This was a hard story for Laura to tell, but incredibly important. Today we are shifting our mindset from body shame to body appreciation. Kelly and AJ Kendall knew their daughter Kolby would need some help once she was born. They expected her to be sick and that she'd possibly need surgeries. They were ready for that struggle and ready to love her no matter. What they didn't expect was that they would have to say goodbye just 3 days later. Kelly and I grew up together and she's one of the most beautiful people I know. She has a special kind of light you simply are drawn to and that makes this episode all that much more heartbreaking, yet powerful. Infant loss, NICU life, and the weight of the journey leading up to it, is unfathomable for most of us. The strength and the choice Kelly and AJ made to live and remember Kolby, instead of decline in grief is powerful and inspiring. As Kelly holds her second daughter, her new beautiful baby girl Kenly in her arms she tells me, "Life can be beautiful after" and that she knows Kolby would be saddened if they hadn't chosen that path. This is the story of high risk pregnancy, care of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Neural Tube Defect, Spina Bifida, genetic disorder, emergency C section, NICU life, Lethal Multiple Pterygium Syndrome, infant loss, a grieving mom, and beauty after trauma through spiritual healing. Today you are going to hear the birth story of Benjamin who was born at 24 weeks due to Preeclampsia. Samantha Gardner Haven joins me in my home studio (aka the desk in the corner of my bedroom) for this episode and she brings us along as she relives the details of his birth and the hard months that followed. Due to her severe condition Sam developed HELLP Syndrome and was unable to see her new baby boy in the NICU for 8 days. Today we will hear about the moments when mom and baby were reunited, the moments her faith was tested as a Preemie mama, and those that resembled a miracle. Sam's message to you is to trust the gift of intuition you are given as a mom, listen to your body, ask questions, and get loud when you need to. Please share this story and this message with all your mamas. It's invaluable and too often it's one that's questioned. All the love,Sarah Want to share your own story? https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScVgRxfI1Y5oqzxcPgp6yCAC8eQ1xDDUtdWT2OXylKNqRWPwg/viewform?usp=pp_url FB Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mamainspiredcollectiveIG: @mamainspiredpodcastwww.mamainspired.com

I hope to inspire the heck out you today with the power you hold and with a story that reminds you that joy is not based on circumstances. Today we are taking our new vision of fear from Part 1 and our new understanding of our fears from Part 2, and we're implementing practices that will help you anticipate fear, curate joy, and fuel your gratitude. So many of our moments spent in joy are chosen. We must choose to put fear to rest, surrender, have faith, live in gratitude for the blessings and the beautiful moments, to cherish the NOW we are living in. I'm about to teach you how to do just that. That does it for our Fear Workshop. I hope it was beneficial and I can't wait for your feedback. If you have questions, hit up your girl! Send me a DM, email, or catch me in our Private Mama Inspired- The Collective FB group. All the love,Sarah Here is the episode from The Awakened Pregnancy Podcast with Kate Caddle. In part 2 of our fear workshop, we are going to learn more about the purpose of fear and how it works, especially around uncertainty, the unknown, and when it feels we've lost control. We are going to really get to know our fear, how it responds to our knee jerk reactions, and what it needs from us so we can work to create a relationship that is supportive.I believe the more knowledge we have around anything, specifically today our fear, the more we understand it. When we understand something or someone, we can act out of compassion and with intention. Both parties benefit and more good comes from this cohesive relationship.Today I will uncover the 4 characteristics of our fear- the good and the bad, and then ask you to really get to know your own fear and what it's asking of you. Our intention isn’t to just overcome our fears, but to make sense of them and find joy through following our truth. If you're loving this workshop, please let me know by leaving a review and sharing the podcast with a friend. Someone else, maybe your friend needs to hear this too. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. All the love,Sarah Homework:Your mission is to 1. Break down your fear, understand it's origin, discern what it's asking of you And 2: Get to know it, discern your truth, decide if it warrants positive actions or if it requires your surrender and faith.Your'e creating something that looks a bit like a flow chart. Write down that big fear we identified in part one of the workshop, then strip it down.Ask yourself these questions that further dissect this fear, underlying fears, and fear origins. What am I actually afraid of? Where do I recognize this fear from before? What is the outcome I fear will impact my life? 2. Now go back through those underlying fears you identified in your flow chart and ask these questions of each:Is it imaginary, superficial, or cause for concern and immediate action ? Is the outcome I fear, something I really believe in? Can I do anything to alter the outcome? Could I overcome this outcome? How does it affect my life and my access to joy right now? What do I value most? FB Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mamainspiredcollectiveIG: @mamainspiredpodcastwww.mamainspired.com
I am guessing 2020 was a tough year for you too, filled with anxiety, fear of the unknown, uncertainty, and feeling a loss of control. Add on any personal stressors in your life, struggling to conceive, working to adopt, grappling with an altered birth plan, stressing over your baby's milestones or fretting about the future of COIVD, and we find ourselves attached to an outcome that's out of our hands, living our days driven by fear. Well I've got some exciting news for you, we're about to walk into 2021 empowered by our new vision of fear, joy, and our truth. Today we are kicking off a free Fear Workshop and slapping a new face on fear. In this workshop you will learn fear's purpose, weaknesses, and the importance of your relationship. You will learn to acknowledge, listen, and discern your truth from the exaggerated reality of your fear. You will learn that fear can be expected and adopt practices that will encourage you to choose joy above it all. *Today's homework*I want you to name one fear your facing right now. You don't have to dissect anything right now, just become aware of your response and relationship to this fear.Do you associate certain colors with your fear? Does it cause a physical response? Then I want you to I want you to think about how it is impacting you in a day. When it creeps in, how do you respond? What are the trail of thoughts that follow ? Do you take any kind of action, big or small when you feel it? How often does this fear come around ? If you say things to yourself like, " I just have to…" in response to this fear.. What is this action you feel is going to help or feels necessary? Did you love today's episode? When you find out you've experienced an early miscarriage it's scary. You have to make choices on how to move forward and are faced with so many questions. Many of us find ourselves googling non-stop and simply looking for resources to help us understand what is happening. In today's interview, Erica Seifert shares her own miscarriage story and together we swap experiences. We approached this conversation as an opportunity to share, educate, reassure, and simply offer perspective. You will hear about Erica's infertility journey to her first born and about her second conception journey to her current pregnancy. We discuss the importance of clicking with your doctor, choosing a method of medical miscarriage, and our failed experiences with genetic testing. Please note we are not doctors and are truly hoping our experience will offer enlightenment and minimize the mad googling. Part two of this conversation will air 10/29. Multiple miscarriages as an already established parent is an interesting experience. Somehow this pain "should" hurt less, because you already have a child. The truth is it doesn’t matter and while you are so very thankful for your child, it doesn't make it hurt any less. I believe more than ever we devalue our own pain and allow others to do so, without correction. Everyone's pain is of their own and isn't to be judged or made small by comparison. I tell this story to let you know it counts, it's real, and that you deserve to feel these emotions fully. In this episode I speak to the multiple loss realities, reveal the not so comforting words given with good intentions, and speak the raw truth of what these moments feel like when walking them. This is the story of my first miscarriage. It was painful, lonely, and humbling. I never quite understood how quickly you could fall in love with a miracle you've never met, and it only takes days. In this episode I reveal how I told Cameron about our pregnancy, how I talked myself out of the reality of our loss, my medical miscarriage experience, and how I coped in the days following. My hope in telling my story is that other mamas don't have to experience this kind of loss to recognize it as the loss it truly is. No matter how early, the life you have created is gone and nothing prepares you for the heartache that follows. I need you to know that you are justified in your emotions, regardless how little time you had to grow this life. Too many of us are led to dismiss this loss, please share this story and help drive this narrative. We Mamas are incredible! We are capable of taking care of everyone and everything and think nothing of it… because it's just what we do! But, in the end we often neglect ourselves. In today's episode we are going to DEBUNK the 5 reasons you are not practicing self care, why the cleaning, kids, guilt, the world's opinion, our blurred vision of what's necessity and what isn't often get in the way of living our healthiest and happiest life. We will discern the small actions each day that make a big impact on the way we feel, how we emotionally react and connect to our children/family, our negative or positive energy, how we sleep, and how we speak to ourselves at the end of the day. OUR truths, what is truly important, and of value to us will be revealed and we will learn to make decisions based on our own wellbeing and happiness instead of expectations and guilt. We will apply this mindset to time-management, so that you can make the very best of your day with what you have. With a little guidance and tough-love you will be making change and growth around your self care routines in no time! Let's get to it mama! I am going to get real in today's episode as I relive the moments Mama Inspired was born. You'll hear how sharing in my loss, fear, and isolation in a post on social media propelled this journey to discovering my mission, and how I came to understand the power of courageous vulnerability. In these moments I felt this overwhelming need from my community to drive a movement, cultivate a more enlightened, compassionate and empowered mama collective, and to encourage mamas and mamas-to-be to avoid isolation and fear not comparison and judgement.I believe storytelling not only helps us heal, makes us feel heard, and like we are a part of something bigger, but can bring to light a perspective that changes how we view our own mess and uncover the beauty within in. My hope is that you will begin to see the power of sharing in your own struggles. Join me as we relive this miracle and please leave a review if what you hear inspires you!
