Have you ever been too scared or don't think you have enough time, experience or credentials to go "all in" on a passion/side gig/hobby so you become paralyzed by fear and doubt to even start? You have this calling that keeps nudging you, but you've heard too many times that in order for your dreams to become reality you have to dive ALL in, head first. What if we opened up a different perspective and showed you how you could answer that nudge & learn to fully commit to that calling without giving everything else up? As working mommas who love their careers, Meagan and Lauren have diversified their interests and income by staying committed, and by prioritizing and thoughtfully planning their days. Like many of you, they have responsibilities as mommas and employees and cannot go "all in" on their side passions - BUT that doesn't mean they've ignored their passions. In this episode, we talk through (at a very high level) how you can change your thoughts to understand how you can choose to decide to move forward on something that's been calling you without having to forgo a career that you love, time with your family, or other interests. So even if you can't go "all in" you can still be 100% committed to your passion. We'd love to know if you've ever felt this way before and how you've moved forward. In this solo episode Meagan highlights the last 8 weeks of her gym's transformation challenge and more importantly the transformation that came with just a quick 24 hours away. Ladies, if we aren't whole for ourselves we can't be whole for those around us. Life can get heavy and hard and stressful and we can choose to live in THOSE moments of worry and fear OR we can choose to see the opportunity for growth, for peace and for strength. We have to flex that mental muscle. I fully admit I am a work in progress and 2021 is testing me in ways I had hoped I wouldn't be tested. BUT, I am grateful for the chance to reset my diet and fitness habits over the last 8 weeks and I am excited to continue to grow in new ways for a stronger mind and body as we kick off spring and JUMP into turning the big 4-0. That said, I will likely be indulging in a cookie later this week! Are you still holding onto the pandemic carry outs? Perhaps your reset will come with the warmer temps or perhaps you need a partner in crime. I have loved seeing my husband's commitment to this challenge as well. I urge you no matter what you are chasing: state your goals, find someone to hold you accountable, write them down, track it and watch yourself grow. There is nothing better than being proud of how you show up day in and day out and the growth you can look back and say, "wow, I did that!" Make it a beautiful week ahead and thank you for cheering us on. Connect with us more on Instagram @mindsetlikeamother - share your questions and fears with us and we'll address them in our podcast. Meagan here for a solo episode all on knowing your limits and when you need to CHILL and take the time out FOR YOURSELF. vs. your kiddos. I have been mentioning that I need a night away for a few months. But you know, it's near impossible to break away during NON-COVID times let alone during a pandemic and in the midst of a lot of personal "stuff" going on. That said, I did it. I broke away. I even decided to indulge and stay in a hotel during a quick trip to my old stomping grounds during college. My closest circle knew I needed a break. I've known for months I needed a break. I've been TOLD to take a break. That said, sometimes I am just so stubborn I resist. I feel grateful now, alone, typing in peace and catching up on work e-mails that I took this quick breather. Just like my new morning routine, the reset, the clarity will make me better and stronger for those who need me the most. How do you reset? Who holds you accountability to pausing? Go one step further with goal setting by using this visualization exercise. Athletes read their playbook & they practice daily, but did you know that they also visualize their moves and how the game will go based on their desired outcome? We can do this in our daily life for our goals too. Visualization will help you see your goals before you're physically achieving them. Having a clear vision will allow for you to stay inspired even when self-sabotage kicks in and you're left feeling unmotivated. You'll be able to kick those negative thoughts to the side more quickly because your vision will be so powerful that it takes over. You can see, taste, smell and feel your vision so much that it becomes your reality so the only thing to do is to continue taking daily action to make it happen. Has the hype of New Year's resolutions already worn off, or are you starting to feel the fade? If so, you're not alone! 2020 was rough! But when you pause and take a look back there was a lot that was learned. It may have been rough in the moment, but now that we're coming out the other side we can look back and realize what we actually took away from those tough life lessons. Everyone handles uncertainty and fear differently, and sometimes that comes out in insecurities and projections. Have you noticed this? Maybe it's you casting your insecurities and projecting onto others, or maybe you're the one taking the hit. Either way, it's time to recognize it, change your perspective, set some boundaries and begin writing that next chapter in your story for how you want it to play out. In this solo episode Meagan shares her personal journey in 2020 and shifting from a woe is me mindset, pivoting and eventually embracing a new direction. Most of us claim the week between Christmas and New Years as a bit of a blur and yes there is PLENTY of wine and cheese in my life right now. But, this cheese isn't the cheese I'm typically enjoying. This cheese is change. This year I am forcing myself to be more intentional with my time even if it's during naps or early mornings and to intentionally take some breaks just for me! To close the laptop, to sit on the ground and play, to clean under the kitchen cabinets and to share openly with you all how this year has affected me. I feel pretty content at this point with how 2020 has wrapped up. That said, I am a realist and I know that 2021 is going to be a whole new ballgame and the challenges we faced this year are far from over. I have learned SO much about myself and how I embrace change over the last 9 months. Just like in the book I've been gifted twice now in my professional career, Who Moved my Cheese, we all get to decide how we handle changes in our lives. Do you wallow? Do you resist? Do you embrace change or run head first at a new challenge? Take a listen and decide what path you are on and if it is serving you for a successful 2021 or not. This holiday season is different for all of us in some capacity. Traditions have had to shift and some of us are celebrating alone when we normally would be surrounded with family and friends. If you're a single momma whose children are with your ex for any part of this holiday season, and COVID has caused you to distance yourself from family and friends that you normally would be with, it's hard and emotional, no doubt. But instead of staying in that space that doesn't serve us, in this episode Lauren talks about ways in which she navigates through these emotions and finds meaning in the alone time. Was 2020 the year of clear vision or chaos? Whichever you're claiming it to be, we're all thriving because we're surviving this year of uncertainty, fear and doubt. Let's commit to using what we learned over these past 9 months to launch us into a new year with a fresh outlook, clear vision and the intention & motivation to claim the year ahead. As we wrap up 2020 we just want to extend our sincerest gratitude to you, our listeners, who have joined us in this journey. This has been a dream of ours and we appreciate you tuning in to our unedited stream of consciousness. Dealing with COVID is hard. And I'm not just talking about the virus. Fortunately we've all remained healthy, but that doesn't mean that we haven't been affected by it. Everything that comes along with COVID has been challenging and one thing we have to remember is that everyone is dealing with it differently and we cannot place judgement on others. In this episode Lauren talks about how she had to work through a friend getting mad at her for becoming too distant. If you find that you're judging someone, it's important to: look within to try to identify why you're feeling that way Ask with curiosity rather than attacking. This will allow the conversation to open rather than instinctually going on the defense. And if someone is distant or short in their responses, it probably has little to do with you and everything to do with all they have going on. Try to offer some support. But what about when it's the first one you're experiencing as either separated or divorced and what was once a familiar, comfortable season to celebrate is now just a season of uncertainty, confusion and awkwardness. You're not alone if these thoughts have come to mind: How am I supposed to feel? Do we spend it together? I don't want to be with him. I do want to spend it together. What about the kids? I'm alone! In this episode Lauren speaks on how she and her ex navigated separation and divorce after nearly 10 years of marriage with their 3 young kids in a positive way. Topics discussed in this episode: How to continue to lead a happy lifestyle & positive mindset with kids post divorce Fielding tough questions and the occasional "I want Daddy" cries when the kids don't get what they want from momma.
It's a new month and only 2 months remain in 2020. In this episode we thought it would be important to talk about the company you keep and the thoughts you tell yourself as these impact who you are and who you're becoming more than you may think. As we wrap up 2020 and head into the New Year, it's so important to start focusing on these elements now so that you can set yourself up with a clear vision, drop the clutter and surround yourself with people, things and places that will inspire you, motivate you and help you as you continue to grow. We talk about how - and give examples on what we personally do- to come into a growth mindset rather than staying stuck and suppressing or neutralizing feelings when you're in a negative space. In this solo episode Meagan shares the other big reason October tends to be a difficult month; breast cancer awareness month and all those pretty pink ribbons that can sting something fierce. Awareness is so very important and we want to respect that, however to someone who is living with terminal breast cancer the awareness piece can feel a bit hollow. Meagan's older sister has been living with Metastatic Breast Cancer for over 2 years now and was diagnosed at stage IV (only 6% of female breast cancer patients are stage IV at diagnosis) Meagan shares her thoughts and shock of those initial days and how life has changed since and her unapologetic feedback about the topic. Do you find that at the end of most days you're left thinking to yourself "Where did the time go", or "What did I actually do today"? We've been there too, and in this episode we talk about time management and different calendar planning methods that work for us so that you can end your days & weeks feeling more accomplished and less stressed. But first, we dive into the debate of are we thriving or surviving during COVID.
October is a bit of a trigger month for Meagan. Being both Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month but also Breast Cancer Awareness month things get a little heavy. In this solo episode Meagan shares her journey to motherhood which was most certainly not a straight and clean line. The only advice I hold strong in is that you have to keep the faith AND find a doctor you feel comfortable and confident with through your journey. It goes with out saying ensure you are surrounded by a circle that can help support you on your darkest days is a requirement to manage the highs and lows. The last 90 days of 2020 are upon us! In this episode we talk about how to adjust your perspective to look at these days as the "next 90 days" rather than the "last 90 days" and use them to propel yourself towards your goals for 2021. Don't wait for that ball to drop at midnight to reset - start planning and taking action now. Regardless if your goals are specific to the common fitness, finance and relationships categories, or finding more self-care time to quiet the noise and feelings of obligations to do more, it's important to set your intentions towards what it is that you want to accomplish. We give you some ideas to implement on how to focus more on your intentions vs goals. By doing this, you allow your goals to become more fluid, because if there's one thing we can take away from this year it's that we can only control what we can control. By recognizing this you will set yourself up for more success and less stress.
