On this episode of the show, Courtney Dowdall and Roy Kasten join the show to discuss the problems with local radio station KDHX in St. Louis.  First up Roy and Courtney sit in with Mark Bland and Jason Kull to discuss the problems that have been happening in St. Louis Community Radio Station KDHX 88.1. Since 2019 it seems things have not been going swimmingly at the station. Many VOLUNTEER DJ's and station members have been fired or left after dealing with the head of the station Kelly Wells and Board head Gary Pierson over decision being made on behalf the volunteers without their consent. Mark has his own story of merit that shows making bad decisions has been part of the station for years, but this new decision seems to be attacking the very fabric of what makes the station work and tick! Next up Super tuesday 2024 came and went with a whimper. As expected, Trump continues to make other criminals who haven't done their crimes yet, feel good about themselves. Noted that Nikki Haley dropped out of the race after winning Vermont (which should be a red flag for Trump) but not before refusing to endorse him...and going as far as to label him a loser.  Finally, what are some of your bad habits that you think others notice? Well a study was done to tell us about some eating and food habits that turn others off a lot! Slurping your soup....eating off someone elses plate? Plus remember those old infomercials and the exercise equipment they were always hawking to everyone? Well there is a story that popped up and sent Mark and Jason down memory lane...come join them for the ride!

Stuck In The Middle - A Gen X Podcast

Let's get physical, Slackers!Did you ever use a Thigh Master? Maybe participate in some Tae Bo? Did your mom or grandma ever rock a pair of Air Shorts? This week I dig in to the fitness trends by year - starting of course with 1965. Some of these so called “fads” have actually become legitimately accepted aspects of health & fitness - treadmills, stationary bikes, inversion tables - all starting in the 60's, 70's or 80's. For every winner, there are of course many scams, scientifically disproven theories, and frankly, some absolute garbage - but when there is money to be made, someone's gonna try to make a buck! There also needs to be at least a little credit given to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jane Fonda, and Richard Simmons for their positive impact on fitness culture. What are some of your favorite exercise inventions, programs, or celebrity fitness gurus? And do you have any of these items in a closet somewhere?

Want to follow along with us on video? Click here to go to the Youtube version and see the slides! Dr. Alan Weinstein, AKA, "Dr. Al", is one of Reed's mentors and best friends. In addition to that, he has an extensive background in healthcare as well as marketing. Interestingly, it's the marketing side of his background which is why we invited him on the show today! Of the many things that go into health coaching businesses, it's often the business stuff that many coaches are least looking forward to. That is, the average health coach LOVES talking about various dietary approaches, looking at and analyzing labs, as well as guiding people along their journey to new and improved health! However, when it comes to actually attracting those clients they otherwise love to work with, that part can get a bit messy. In comes Dr. Al! During this episode of The Health Detective Podcast, Dr. Al helps us understand the psychology behind why some clients say "Yes", and why others say "No". And, just to be clear, this does NOT MEAN this is an episode on how to sell people expensive health coaching packages that they DIDN'T NEED OR WEREN'T READY FOR. What we are referring to specifically in this episode is how to get people who you KNOW you can help and who you realize would be EXCELLENT for your program to say YES so that both you and the client can win.  Does all this sound good? Then the episode itself will sound even better! Listen now and let us know what you think or ask us questions by reaching out on Instagram @fdntraining.  About Dr. Al: Alan S. Weinstein, D.C. ran a state of the art, waiting list multidisciplinary, multi-physician practice for over twenty five years, combining neurology, radiology, exercise rehabilitation, biochemistry, Chinese medicine, acupuncture and chiropractic. He had so many referrals that he had to refer them to other physicians in his area as he was unable to keep up with the demand for the Wellness care he created.  He was one of the first physicians to achieve three separate certifications in exercise rehabilitation in the United States.  He served on the Quality Assurance Committee of the American Chiropractic Association, where he formulated the Rehabilitation Guidelines from which all other chiropractic physicians had to adhere. He completed the ACA Neurology Diplomat program and was honored as valedictorian of his class.  He has achieved certifications in ADHD and Learning Disabilities, Vertigo, Applied Kinesiology, Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis, Detoxification, Metabolic Typing and Functional Diagnostic Nutrition. His leadership and entrepreneurial spirit paved the way in the managed care arena, where he was a founder and board member of the Managed Care Network.  He was the first chiropractor ever selected to serve as a panel physician for Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Capitol Care.  He was also chosen as a panel physician for Prudential (Prucare) Insurance, Giant Food Stores, Travelers Insurance, A.I.I.A. / P.P.O., Health Care, Focus, and CorVel.   He served as an Independent Medical Examiner for Hartford Insurance, Kemper Insurance, and Mediq Claims Review.  He was accepted as a Life Member in the National Registry of Who's Who in recognition of exemplary service, both to the community and to the profession.  He served on the board of the International College of Applied Kinesiology. He then decided to give up practicing and devote his time to marketing.  He soon wrote, directed, and stared in his own television long form infomercial featuring an exercise device of his own invention.  During this time he worked with Eric Stilson who many of you know for his hugely successful marketing campaigns for HealthRider, Bowflex and the AbDoer. He honed his media skills with Mercury Media and Euro RSG the largest media buyers in the world.  He then went on to work with some of the top innovators in internet marketing today. He began to work with Alex Mandossian one of the most if not the most successful marketer in the world who has generated over $473 million dollars online for himself and his affiliates.  As a result Dr. Weinstein created a 7 figure business helping health-care professionals use podcasts to build their practice.  He then created the first lead generation/ follow-up marketing SYSTEMS for healthcare professionals which he still runs actively today. Currently, Dr. Weinstein specializes in helping his clients understand Brain Based Marketing a neurological approach to building your brand.  Brain based Marketing is well researched and is some of the most successful marketing done today.  His vast marketing experience combined with his knowledge of Brain Based Marketing allows his clients to "Get Above the Noise" of email and Social Media and be guaranteed to reach their audience. Dr. Weinstein's consistently helps his clients develop the most cost-effective, proven strategies to acquire new customers, expand online search marketing reach, and develop a positive ROI. This episode is a continuation of last week's conversation, so if you missed it we highly encourage you to go back and start there. We have NASA's Astronaut Strength Conditioning and Rehabilitation (ASCR) team joining us, including Corey Twine (Strength and Conditioning Coach), Danielle Anderson (Physical Therapist), Bruce Nieschwitz (Athletic Trainer), and Christ Keeler (Athletic Trainer). In the previous conversation we focused on pre-flight preparation for astronauts and we transitioned into the in-flight training they do to mitigate the effects of microgravity. This time we wrap up the in-flight conversation and transition into post-flight rehabilitation. We discuss everything from how to do a dynamic warm up in space to the potential for things like wearables and blood flow restriction training in space. Like lasting time, we learn a lot about the fascinating challenges involved in keeping humans healthy and fit in space. NASA makes a huge amount of their information publicly available, here are a few for those of you that want to dive deeper into some of the topics we discussed: NASA has a dedicated page to highlight technology spinoffs that were developed for spaceflight but now benefit those of us here on earth. You can even find Bowflex on there! The Commercial Low Earth Orbit Development Program (CLDP) is NASA's program to assist companies with developing commercial access to low earth orbit. Astronaut flight assignment process EVA (extravehicular activity/spacewalk) spacesuit Human adaptation to spaceflight (if you search “exercise,” you'll find quite a few references to how exercise is used as a countermeasure in spaceflight)
