You've heard sooo many of my clients share their stories on the podcast, you've read about their transformations and how they rave about their experience. You've literally heard it in their voices as they share... THEY FEEL EMPOWERED, LIBERATED FROM THE STRUGGLE, AND LOVING THEIR RESULTS. If you pay close attention, you'll see that a consistent common denominator is this: THEY'VE LEARNED THE SKILL OF SELF-COMPASSION. → They've learned how to be kind to themselves, and actually supportive OF themselves >>>  which is the TOTAL OPPOSITE of what most of us learn as women: to be constantly critical and ‘never good enough'. I've talked about emotional eating MANY times on the podcast, but today we're zero-ing in on a really important one, that deserves its very own episode: SELF PITY. I can't even tell you HOW MANY TIMES I emotionally over-ate and sabotaged my goals DUE TO FEELING SELF PITY. Self pity about my weight, self pity about my body, self pity about relationship stuff, work stuff (the list goes on!)… or even just self pity about my life in general. And whenever I felt this way, I didn't know any other thing to do, but to eat about it as a temporary means for distraction. THIS is the case for most women. It completely explains WHY it's possible for someone to know exactly ‘what to do' to lose the weight, but then emotionally eat to the point of even regaining all the weight they've lost. Because when it comes to emotions like this one, we just haven't known any other way... UNTIL NOW ;) I can remember SO CLEARLY moments of my life where I TRULY felt and believe that:  -Food was the only ‘good thing' in my life. - Food (specifically, popcorn at the end of the day…) was the ONLY thing to ‘look forward to'.This is something that comes up A LOT as I'm coaching my clients inside THE LAST 10 Program. One of the skills you've heard me talk about before (but I break down in this episode in a new way) is: EMOTIONAL COURAGE. In this Episode I specifically examine Self-pity as part of our human emotional experience- HOW to navigate that. We take an even  closer, microscopic look at Self-Pity vs Self-Compassion, and moreover HOW TO ACTUALLY OFFER YOURSELF COMPASSION IN YOUR MOST CHALLENGING MOMENTS as a wayyyyy more effective strategy. (pro tip: Self-compassion is a powerful antidote for self-sabotage!) For me, Compassion is like being able to offer LOVE from myself TO MYSELF in moments when I'm feeling MOST uncomfortably challenged. HAVING THIS SKILL CHANGED THE COURSE OF MY LIFE. (not to mention, I also stopped rage eating which means I now maintain an 80 pound weight loss with ease, and joy and love...) I share a personal example and story from when I navigated being a brand new mom, and that infamous newborn stage. It was one of the HARDEST things I've ever done, it involved BOTH self-pity AND compassion. The game-changer was honing in on the difference between the two, developing the ability to generate self-compassion FOR YOURSELF, while also allowing for some self-pity as needed. So… if you find yourself feeling like ‘food is the only thing to look forward to' at the end of your day, your week, or overall right now in your life- Put in your earbuds. RELAX. ENJOY. I have been mentioning that I need a night away for a few months. But you know, it's near impossible to break away during NON-COVID times let alone during a pandemic and in the midst of a lot of personal "stuff" going on. That said, I did it. I broke away. I even decided to indulge and stay in a hotel during a quick trip to my old stomping grounds during college.  My closest circle knew I needed a break. I've known for months I needed a break. I've been TOLD to take a break. That said, sometimes I am just so stubborn I resist. I feel grateful now, alone, typing in peace and catching up on work e-mails that I took this quick breather. And what I’m asking of you, is to make this challenge your priority. FOR YOURSELF. Because the benefits you will get from joining, and doing the simple, good-feeling exercises every day… … will significantly reduce your social anxiety in 30 days. And, this will improve the quality of your life. And, that improvement is FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! So given that context, is 20min a day not worth your effort? If even half of what I’m saying is true, wouldn’t it be worth your time? I’m sure you’ve got lots going on. I do too. But is it really true that you can’t have 20min to yourself, in the 16 hours that you’re awake? Make this a priority. You’ll be so happy that you did once your in the middle of the challenge. You’ll be grateful for the choice you made to participate. And you’ll be excited about the progress you’re making. Make a list of 3 things you need to do FOR YOURSELF and schedule them into your schedule. So often I hear - "I don't have time".  Truth is you can find the time if you really want to. So this week...really want to!  Build your schedule to allow for the time you need to take care of yourself. Perhaps coffee with a friend, a workout at the gym and a long phone call to someone you love.  Make the time today in your calendar for these things to happen and they will. Remember - you control your downtime.  Make better use of it!

What a powerful statement, huh? Movement is...Motion. Life. Emotion. Forward movement. Revolution. Motion is life, and life is motion. But is this YOU today? Are you a woman of movement? Today I'm going to teach you how you can be. SHOW NOTES... Unfortunately when people first reach out to me, a lot of times they’re NOT moving. They’re moving and shaking…but not moving anywhere. They’re shaking in fear, and not moving ahead in their lives. They feel stuck. Oftentimes feeling like they’re stuck, AND they suck. Not knowing what to do. If that’s you, don’t worry. I’ve got you covered. It’s not the first time I’ve heard this. Years ago, I was hearing this so often that I put together a Training C.A.M.P. to help people begin to move forward in the areas of: Certainty. Abundance. Movement. Purpose. That’s why we’re talking about this. We’ve talked about Woman of Certainty (EPISODE 037) and Women of Abundance (EPISODE 038.) Movement is such a huge part of YOU being alive on planet earth. MOTION is everything, my dear. Perhaps you find yourself sitting all day, everyday at your job, then you go home at night, and sit in front of the television. And all you do is sit. Sit. SIT... Today’s the day you have to take a STAND for yourself. Take a STAND for the motion. Take a STAND for the emotion that’s evoking passion and power in your life. Today I’d like to speak about three (3) areas of MOVEMENT. 1. Health - Physical Movement If you’re not doing daily physical movement, then I’m not going to “should” on you. You KNOW you “should” be moving. But IF you’re not, then ask yourself, "Why…?" - Have you scheduled it into your day? - Are you scheduling movement that you love to do? Not everyone is super excited about getting on a treadmill, elliptical machine, stair master, or whatever. I get it! You don't have to. Exercise is any movement more than you’re doing right now. If you are currently doing NO movement, and you start moving - even a little bit - it’s like putting a little bit of money in your bank account each day. Before long you’ve got some kind of account! When you begin to move a little each day, you start a fitness, health, and wellness account. Before long your account grows. I had a woman come to one of my talks when I spoke about this topic. What she took away from my talk was this: “Do what you can.” So she did. She knew she could walk for a minute. Then she decided she could run for a minute. So she started running for one minute, and each day she added another minute. In six weeks she was a runner…training for her first 5K! She had lost weight, and so many amazing things happened because of her commitment to do what she could in the area of physical movement. Make the commitment to do what you can. Do something MORE than you’re doing right now. The slightest little changes have an accumulative affect. 2. Head - Mental Movement. Where are you in how you’re THINKING? Are you seeing the future, yet strategizing and taking action in the present? This is what it takes to be a Woman Of Movement. You must be able to see the future with BIG VISION, but strategize and take steps in your present. What steps are you taking to move your life forward, and in the direction of your desires, dreams, goals, and vision? Are you taking steps each and every day? If you’re not, then you have your dreams and desires on the back burner. Get your dreams and desires OFF THE BACK BURNER. If you’re putting your dreams and desires are on the back burner, YOU’RE GETTING BURNED OUT. You may think your burnout is coming from how hard you work. BUT, if you’re working real hard and you’re getting burned out, perhaps it’s because your life’s not working. One way to get it WORKING is to get your dreams, goals, desires OFF the back burner, and get them out in front. No different than a carrot on a stick. Get what matters to you out in front of you to keep going. Otherwise you’re FRYING yourself! Stop. Stop what’s not working. It’s time to start something new. Start what IS working. 3. Heart - Your Spiritual Movement. Are you creating, and entering into the revolution that is YOUR LIFE? Creating a revolution…a movement in your life. It feels so big, but it doesn’t happen over night. It starts by doing the little things. Get moving. Get your body moving. Get your health heading in the right direction. Start tapping into the energy source that’s life and movement. Motion is life. Life is motion. Begin to strategize as you see your future. Say YES to the future you’d like to create, but STAY IN and DO the work in the present. The motion and momentum that you’ll create in your life will create a revolutionary movement. Have you ever thought about that? Or are you waiting for someone else to come along, and lead you on this movement? Are you ready to lead yourself? Receive the leadership around…there’s nothing wrong with that. But if you aren’t willing to do it for yourself, you’ll keep doing it all by yourself. When you're willing to do it FOR YOURSELF, you don’t have to do it ALL BY YOURSELF. And you can enter the moment that is your life, my dear. This is one of the reasons I started Women Sipping On Life. You’ve heard my story that began many years ago. I began to sip on life with some of my mentors. I started to grow, go forward in my life, and leave the past behind. Instead of being and talking about the problem, I decided to BE and talk about the SOLUTION, and become an active participant in creating it. Oh my goodness, my life has never been the same. I believe WOMEN SIPPING. ON. LIFE. is a movement. The last time I checked (at the time of this recording) we were in over 16 countries. I’m so excited about that, but I would LOVE to hear from YOU. What’s happening for you? Are you beginning to take these steps, and enter into the moment that’s YOU and YOUR LIFE? Not only a life, but a life that you LOVE, and a life that LOVES YOU BACK. I hope you got something from this message today. Please grab your SACRED S.O.L. D.A.T.E. JOURNAL (Daily Action To Engage with yourself.) TODAY'S SACRED S.O.L. STEP: Sit down. Write this out. Then get up and go! Write out one thing for each of these 3 areas of movement that you’ll commit to doing today...and WILL move you forward: 1. Health. 2. Head. 3. Heart. You’ll get further in life by doing a little each day, then waiting until that one day when you feel ALL INSPIRED, and try to do it ALL over night. That’s NOT going to happen. You’ll wonder why you keep starting and stopping. Then blaming yourself for not being disciplined. Instead, make a decision to do a little every single day and build on it. WELL…COME Back, S.O.L. SISTER These are the 3 questions you can ask yourself: HOW do I feel? WHAT do I feel? WHY do I feel this way? TODAY'S SHOW NOTES... Time flies when we’re having fun!  Thanks for daring to enter into this adventure of sipping on your life. Sipping on your love.  How’s it going for you?  Sipping on your life is a daily, in the moment, process of D.I.Y.  What does D.I.Y. LOVE look like?  Sipping on life is a D.I.Y. experience. Yes, you have to do it FOR YOURSELF. But, you DO NOT have to do it ALL BY YOURSELF.  My D.I.Y. LOVE experience began the moment I heard the voice of God in my heart, asking me, “Shannon, do you love yourself?”  The opposite of LOVE isn’t hate, but fear. When I began to LOVE myself, I was able to begin to see the fear inside me. It helped me to face my fears.  In order to love you, you must know you. In order to know you, you must spend time with YOU.  D.I.Y. LOVE…Loving Yourself…is about getting to know you and spending time with you.  When you begin to D.I.Y. YOUR LOVE, and truly date yourself well…and become the great lover of your life, it’s all about YOU.  Are you willing to invest the time, energy, truth, honesty, and vulnerability within your soul to get to know you?  To meet you. Spend time with you. Get to know YOU, for no other reason but to be with you and fall in love with you.  You may be thinking that you DO love yourself, because you don’t hate yourself. BUT…  When was the last time you actually asked yourself about how you feel?  This is the FIRST place you can start to D.I.Y. LOVE.  #1: Ask yourself how you feel. Whatever “it” is for you.  So often we’re so worried about what everyone else is thinking or feeling, but we don’t take the time to ask ourselves.  Or we shove our feelings under the surface, negate them, shame, or blame ourselves.  You may tell yourself that you “shouldn’t” feel a certain way…but you do.  When was the last time you spent time with yourself, and asked yourself how you feel about something (or anything)?  How do you feel about YOUR life?  #2: Ask yourself WHAT you feel. Take a look at all the stories that you’re telling yourself, and get to the DEEP TRUTH about WHAT you’re actually feeling.  Is it blame, shame, fear…?  I’ve found that typically it comes from fear.  The next time you identify that your feelings are coming from a place of fear, remember this acronym that I’ve created (and use in my own life):  *Fully. Engage. And. Remember.   Stop running, and disengaging with your feelings.  When you feel afraid, ask yourself: - How am I feeling right now? - What do I feel right now?  THEN…fully engage and remember who you are. This is the TRUTH about you, my dear.  If you don’t feel as though you know what’s TRUE for you anymore, then START by asking yourself HOW you feel and WHAT you feel.  This will help you begin to uncover and discover what’s TRUE for you. #3: Ask yourself WHY. Why do you feel the way you feel?  Go beyond the surface answers, and go deep.  Perhaps there’s an old story that you’re telling or a residual memory that’s coming up for you.  Stop, and ask yourself, “WHY?”  A lot of times the WHY isn’t even the biggest deal.  But you can ask yourself why you’re even taking a look at it (whatever it is for you.) Ask yourself WHY you even care about how you feel, what you feel, or why you feel that way.  You care because you’re beginning the process of knowing you, and loving you unconditionally. D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself.) Are you willing to build your OWN relationship, and relationships, upon the foundation of the relationship that you’ve built with yourself?  Most people don’t even think about this. I believe this is why 2/3 of all relationships end in a break-up.  Most break-ups or divorces come from the divorce or separation between the head and heart.  In my case the divorce (or separation) was between who I was and who I thought I “should” be.  It’s time for you to begin to LOVE yourself.  Ask yourself OUT, and INTO the deepest parts of you…especially the areas that you’ve been hiding.  Open up your heart to YOURSELF, and get to know you.  It’ll expand your ability to LOVE and BE LOVED.  YOU ARE LOVED. LOVING, AND YOU ARE LOVE.  This has been SO LIFE-CHANGING FOR ME!  It’s no longer a concept or theory. These are principles for becoming the great lover of your life. It’s NOT selfish.  We will love others the way we love ourselves. If you don’t love yourself well, you won’t be able to love others well either.  This is the most selfless thing you can do. If you do not, you’ll expect so much from everyone else.  D.I.Y. LOVE (for YOURSELF and OTHERS.)  From your overflow. *TODAY’S SACRED S.O.L. STEP:  Make a S.O.L. DATE with yourself (Daily Action To Engage with yourself,) by grabbing your journal, and asking yourself these 3 questions: HOW do I feel? WHAT do I feel? WHY do I feel this way? Write it all out. You have to do it for yourself, but you do NOT have to do it ALL BY YOURSELF.  It doesn’t mean you’ll be alone.  When you begin to become your own greatest company, you’ll begin to share (and want to share) the company that IS YOU.  Spend some time with YOU today. Getting to know YOU.  So you can begin to fall in love with YOU, and YOUR LIFE and LIFE’S WORK. Do the work for yourself. Within yourself.  NOT ALL BY YOURSELF.
