“Do unto others as you would have them do unto to you.” My name is Eldon Basham and I practice in the Real Estate and Municipal Government Section of the firm’s practice. In the real estate section, I tend to help people when they acquire property all the way through the time they require it through the development and the sale of the property because most of my clients will initially contract and then try and get the property entitled which involves the zoning and the permitting process that they have to go through. And that ties in with my municipal practice because in representing the city of Woodstock, I tend to be involved on the other side of the transactions which has me involved in the zoning, culmination process, acquisitions in any kind of permitting and regulation that goes from that direction. Moore Ingram Johnson and Steele has access to so many different practice areas that we are able to refer issues to other attorneys in the firm when we are not essentially able to handle them ourselves or when somebody would be better able to handle them. The ability to refer within the firm and then to be able to discuss matters with attorneys within the firm really provides clients with an option that is not available in a lot of areas. Yet, we are not so big that we have 5 or 6 people working on one matter, usually we’ll have one partner working in an area and then perhaps an associate or two depending on the magnitude of the problem. I really am passionate about the fact that I've had clients for 20 something years in this practice and I'm representing their children now who have taken over the business. I really enjoy the fact that I was able to watch them grow up, go through school, takeover some of the practice, their parents’ business and transition with the parents and the children and I'm passionate about my family, my wife and my daughter and my 2 grandkids. Hi, my name is Bill Johnson, I'm a partner here at Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele. Along with my duties as general counsel for the firm as well as I've been a partner, I handle large liability claims in various areas including a lot of liability claims, motor vehicle claims including trucks, and even such things as premises liability. In addition to that, I also work with 831 (b) captive arena with Matthew Howard. Due to my experience with insurance, I write policies for our clients, investigate claims, determine if they're appropriate to be paid and handle that portion of the 831 (b) as well. I think one of the things that make Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele different from other firms is that I, like every other attorney here, really care about the clients. Clients want about three things from you. They want you to do what you tell them you'll do, they want you to care about their problems and they don't want surprises. I'm passionate about my family, my faith and my clients. I think those three relationships all require trust and dedication and I always try to provide that in all three. I've been married to a wonderful lady who's been my wife for almost forty years. I have three grown children now, all married very recently and I have two wonderful grandkids and all the stories you've heard about grandkids are true. I think one thing that sets our firm aside is we're set up very much like a large firm, we're just smaller. We try to produce excellent work product just like the big firms at a more reasonable rate. I think one of the things that make my practice different is that I fly all over the country for various clients. You know when I graduated from law school, I was going into corporate law. And I got a job in South Georgia and when I started, they said that they actually had more work in the workers’ comp department than they did in corporate. So I decided to take a shot at doing workers’ comp defense and actually I have been doing workers’ comp defense now for the last 20 years representing employers throughout the State of Georgia on the workers’ comp issues as well as other employee employment issues. My name is Rodney McColloch and I am a partner here in the Workers’ Comp Department at Moore Ingram Johnson and Steele. I primarily handle workers’ compensation defense, other insurance defense issues, and some employment issues for employers throughout the state. I definitely feel like someone was watching over me when I started the practice of workers’ compensation defense rather than corporate. I have to say that my personality fits it better. I like things to move along fast, I like to be creative and sitting behind the desk all day pushing papers is definitely not my personality. So, I am thankful that I had that opportunity and now 20 years later, I am still handling workers’ compensation cases every day throughout the state of Georgia and actually into other states in the southeast. The hardest part of practicing law is keeping your priorities and having a balance. I would say my number one priority is my family. My wife and my three daughters. I love to spend time with them, which is probably why I'm a terrible golfer. If I ever had a five-hour window, of free time, I would love to spend it with my family rather than be on the golf course. Maybe that will change when I retire. My second passion other than working is wine. And anyone that has been to my office can tell I have a lot of wines. I love tasting unique wines. I actually got engaged in Napa and the one thing that I tell my clients is that, unlike wine, claims don't get better with age. So I like to move claims along very quickly. A lot of clients asks, "What sets us apart from our competition?" And I would say that aside from hiring really good attorneys, smart people and aggressively pursuing claims and being creative, is our communication. We have always strived to keep our clients informed and we believe that a client that is informed the whole way along will not have any surprises and will anticipate the outcome and be happy with it. I started at the firm in 1996 as a summer associate. I came back full-time in 1997 and I've been here ever since. I can't imagine working anywhere else. In my practice, I cover will preparation, estate and gift tax planning, estate administration, probate litigation and guardianships and conservatorships for incapacitated adults and children. My name is Brian O'Neil. I am a partner in the Corporate Tax section here at Moore Ingram Johnson and Steele and I primarily handle business transaction work including mergers and acquisitions, franchising and secured lending. Following the Golden Rule has worked very well for our firm over many years and in fact, I've represented some of the same clients for over 30 years. With respect to my business transactional work, I refer to myself as a Deal Maker not a Deal Breaker. If you get the wrong business attorney and a transaction, you can end up with a problem and a deal not happening so we build ourselves as attorneys that get things done and get the deals closed. Someone asked me once how do I go about making decisions or dealing with a difficult issue that comes in the door and I know it sounds somewhat hokey but I will ask myself, "What would Jesus do?" Abraham Lincoln advised a lawyer he was writing to in a letter that he should always think about the opportunities to be a peacemaker. And that applies fairly well in my practice, which is a combination of litigation and transactional work focused on trying to avoid unnecessary conflict and bringing parties together were possible. Hi, my name is Phillip Beggs. My practice at Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele is very broad. What I do is a combination of transactional work and litigation. I handle commercial real estate of all descriptions. I work on lease and negotiations often on the tenant's side. But handling landlord developments as well. We do regular commercial closings and I participate in all of that. I also handle a good variety of commercial litigation, often enforcing contracts. Construction contract is certainly a part of that. The broader, what we call business divorce work is part of what I do and for the last ten years or so in my practice. I've even branched out and been handling some fiduciary litigation in the probate courts here in Northwest Georgia. One of the things that makes Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele unique I believe is the location out in the suburbs in Marietta in Cobb County where we have tried to develop long-term relationships drilling well down into the business community in our county. We have clients that I've been working for for 20 plus years through multiple up and down cycles. As with any service organization, we try to provide good service and we try to be an adviser as opposed to just the transactional person solving an immediate problem. What I'm most passionate about in my life is of course my family, my wife and two daughters who keep me pretty busy as things go by. We spend a lot of time here in Northwest Georgia hiking and enjoying nature. And of course I love my bulldogs and I spend a lot of painful Saturdays in Athens dealing with them. I'm a partner here at Moore Ingram Johnson and Steele, in our Employment Law Department. I've been here since I graduated from Law school in 1997. I head that department and we work on both employment litigation, as well as employment compliance issues, helping clients with handbooks and contracts and severance agreements but also audits and responding to charge of discrimination and wage and hour issues. All sorts of small business HR type compliance is what we deal with in the Employment Law group. Referring back to my favorite quote, "the something to do," I feel like it's worked with the purpose here at Moore Ingram Johnson and Steele. I interviewed back when it had fewer than 20 lawyers and this firm has grown as Cobb County and its business community and population have grown. And we've grown in our sophistication providing services to those clients. Here at work, one of the things I'm passionate about is helping others and one of the nice things about Moore Ingram Johnson and Steele is it's given me the flexibility to do a good bit of pro bono, community service work here at the firm. I was very proud recently to be honored with a regional award for pro bono work but it's something that I couldn't have earned without the support of the firm. And doing that kind of work allows me again to have a purpose here in the office. The purpose at home, of course, is family and in supporting them. I've got three wonderful children, my wife, Stacey who I learned the law from, she was the Employment Lawyer first not me. I married into an employment law family and decided I had to know the family business to have conversation topics at the dinner table. I live in Smyrna. I'm very involved in Smyrna events, Smyrna educational foundations, Smyrna business association for the Cobb Chamber. Those are the kinds of extra curriculars that I'm involved in, in addition to scouting which has always have a very large impact on my life and remains one of the things I'm passionate about with my son in scouting now. My daughters in scouting, we like camping as a family and hiking and just being outdoors. I love it when our clients come in before they get audited, before they get sued, before there's a problem and have us check whether or not they're compliant with their HR needs. It's when they don't do those things on the front end then we see them later and they have big problems. We solve those problems, but I would much rather see them on the front end before there's a problem. Let us go out and do a little audit, an HR audit, make sure everything is in order, make sure you're compliant so that the business is compliant, the owner doesn't get harmed through later litigation and the business can continue to grow and flourish. That's really what I hope for.

My Name is Kevin Carlock, I'm a partner here at Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele. I've been an attorney here for about 20 years. My primary practice area is Workers Compensation Defense. I represent employers and insurers in all manner of claims and mostly insurance carriers and servicing agents. I also represent some un-insured employers as well. I think one of the things that makes our firm different is our responsiveness. We really try to get back to people as quickly as possible in response to a phone call or an email. The general philosophy has always been to respond within 24 hours. But I think most of us will really try to get back to anyone the day that we hear from them. The thing I'm most passionate about is my family. We enjoy spending time together whatever we're doing, whether it's doing things in Sandy Springs or going to sporting events. My general philosophy for claim handling stems from the idea that “uncertainty is the worst thing for an employer and sure to have.” So the idea is to get claims closed as quickly as we can. We work hard to investigate our claims as quickly as possible and close them down as quickly as we can if that's what the employer wants.

I'm a partner at Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele and I work in the commercial and construction litigation department. As a commercial and construction litigator, I handle a variety of different cases. My goal and my service to my clients, however, is to try everything that I can do to keep that client out of litigation. What I would prefer is that a client come to me or my other partners and attorneys at our office, work with them, learn how to cross their t's and dot their i's for a far less amount of attorney's fees than it would be to come to me and for actually have to file lawsuits and defend lawsuits which requires far more attorney's fees. “No question is stupid if you don’t know the answer.” Hello, my name is Matthew Howard. I am the senior partner of our tax department here at Moore Ingram Johnson & Steele. My practice comprises really first and foremost of heading up our tax department at MIJS. I graduated with a degree in law obviously, but also a master’s degree in tax so all I do in one form or another is taxation. I would say the three big areas are trust and estate work for clients, really all over the country, but primarily concentrated in Georgia. We do an awful lot of tax controversy work here at this firm where the Internal Revenue Service takes a position with either a corporation individual or partnership that we believe is unfair and untoward and not supportive by the law so we will help them and shepherd them through that entire process all the way through the administrative level at the Internal Revenue Service as well as US tax court if necessary. And the third area of our practice that I oversee is our captive insurance company practice. I am involved really exclusively in making certain that corporations that want to employ their own insurance company, known as a Captive Insurance company do it for the right reasons and they have a business purpose for doing it and not just a tax purpose. There has been a lot of litigation over in the 80s and 90s and a lot of guidance coming out of the Internal Revenue Service that has helped individuals and corporations who set up captives do them for the right reasons and it’s our job in this department, the tax department, that is to make sure that they are setting the individuals that create these and formed these and ran these are doing them for the right reasons. So anyone that knows me beyond probably 10 minutes will know I’m very passionate about two things. First and foremost about my faith. I have not been a man of faith most of my adult life, but over the last few years I did find my faith and I thank God for that, primarily. And the second thing I’m most passionate about is my family. I have a lovely wife, five children, and four dogs whom I adore. I am most appreciative of the opportunity to have worked at this firm for now going on 28 years, not just because it’s a great place to practice, the individuals are nice from Susan who greets people at our front desk to every staff member, the attorneys, very collegial place to work but first and foremost this is a place where we can express our faith and we think of the clients first; they absolutely come first. That is our mantra. We return phone calls, we return emails, and we truly put our interests second to our client base and I think that has served us well over the years. I represent employers, insurers, third party administrators in workers’ compensation cases throughout the State of Georgia. So I help employers and insurance companies, self insured employers throughout the state who have workers’ compensation claims, they need legal assistance to determine compensability of claims, to determine if somebody is faking or to find a way to get that claim shut down as quickly as possible. I'm a partner in the commercial and insurance defense practice group. I'm a fourth generation Cobb Countian, grew up in Cobb County. My grandfather formed the land where Town Center Mall sits. My father was a county commissioner in Cobb County. I love Cobb County. Our firm is based in Marietta, although we have satellite offices throughout the South East. I focus on business litigation and insurance defense disputes. What makes our practice different is we treat people the way we want to be treated. We created this firm or we started this firm back in the mid-80s with a goal of recruiting high-quality lawyers from Atlanta who want to live and work in the suburbs and specialize and focus their practice in different areas. I've served as the president of the State Bar of Georgia which was a real honor that the lawyers and judges for the State Bar of Georgia allowed me to serve in that position. But we also serve in churches, and in civic groups throughout Cobb County and we do that not only because it is the right thing to do but we also build relationships with people in doing that that enrich our lives and enrich our practice. I tell lawyers all the time in our firm that clients want to send work to people whose company they enjoy. You can be the smartest lawyer in the world but if you're not fun and you don't engage with your clients and have fun with them, then they're not going to send you work. So we work hard to develop relationships that are meaningful and that has been one of the most rewarding things in my practice of law. We're problem solvers, we deal with a lot of different problems. I've been practicing law in Cobb County in Metro Atlanta for 13 years. I've left the firm I was with to start a new firm and we started on January 1, 1984. And I took with me 2 legal assistants and I told them at that time that I wasn't even sure we're able to pay them the first month, and they came anyway. And fortunately, we were able to pay them and me a little bit too. And we have never looked back since that time. My vision when I started this firm was that we would have a law firm based on the big firm concept downtown - that is have specialties in different areas. At the time that I started the firm, my primary clientele was real estate developers and banks. We came up with a, what we call a wheel concept. And the wheel concept means a developer client, for example, being the hub of that wheel and then those spokes the different legal needs that they would need. And the feedback I got from my clients is they want a place that was a one-stop shop. That they could bring their issues to us so we'd be able to handle them. And of course, I was primarily doing commercial real estate zoning and development at that time. So I needed people who did other specialties. And so I went to Atlanta to recruit attorneys to do those and tax, corporate and litigation. Over the 13 years I've been practicing that clients and reach the point where they needed those kind of specialties and we didn't have them and they weren't offered here. The idea was that we could offer those specialties in a suburban-location-like Cobb County so people will not go downtown Atlanta to get those services. So that was the initial recruiting I did - recruited a tax attorney, litigators, corporate legal and we started to grow out from there.
