Invisible Crimes: Human Trafficking in the US

Human Trafficking is considered an "invisible crime" as it can take place at any point, and anyone can be a victim or trafficker. According to Hope for Justice, over 1 million people in the United States are living in conditions of modern slavery. These conditions include sex trafficking, forced prostitution, domestic servitude, criminal exploitation, etc. The North Carolina Justice Academy is dedicated to helping lower these statistics and to ensure the safety of the citizens of North Carolina and beyond. In 2018, Cumberland County had the highest number of human trafficking charges than any other county in North Carolina. Join host Kirk Puckett with guests Nisha Williams, legal director with the NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and Cathy Roberson, Executive Director of the Cleveland County Abuse Prevention Council, as they discuss domestic violence, service providers, confidentiality restrictions, and working with law enforcement officers.   Domestic violence service providers cannot confirm or deny if a person is receiving or has received services when law enforcement is attempting to serve an arrest warrant or locate a missing person.
