Darius sits down for an exclusive interview with Beyond Trafficking Founder/chairwoman Stephanie Rocha to honor Human trafficking Awareness Month.
Human trafficking often strikes us as being rare and extremely and many people believe that mostly happens in third world countries. Certainly, it is true that for many third world countries, many people live in poverty and often their children are kidnapped or seduced into situations where they believe everyone will have a better life. However, human trafficking is also very prevalent in the U.S. and California is most often the number one state for cases. The victims and perpetrators are diverse in how they operate, but the one thing every case has in common is that victims are exploited in ways that makes it very difficult for them to recover. During this show we will talk about the many types of trafficking and pimping. We will look at family pimping, guerilla pimping, boyfriend pimping, that takes place here in the Inland Empire. We will also explore how foreign national trafficking is taking place in our communities. And we will look at how foreign national trafficking is often connected to other crimes including minor labor trafficking, fraudulent credit card trafficking, large scale shop lifting rings, stolen vehicles, and illegal pot grows. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/million-kids/support
Stepping into the shadows of a world that many of us hope to never encounter, Angela Bernard and Cindy Lopez with Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County join me to uncover the grim realities of human trafficking in our backyards. These brave voices from Place of Hope and Crime Stoppers shine a light on the darkness, revealing how their partnership and an anonymous tip line are not just tools, but lifelines in the community's fight against this pervasive crime. Prepare to be moved by the personal battles of human trafficking survivors, whose stories are both heartbreaking and hopeful. From the labor trafficking of three siblings to Doug's and Tabitha's agonizing paths through exploitation, these narratives are testament to the importance of every tip reported. We discuss the increased rewards for tips leading to arrests, and how each piece of information weaves together a larger picture that aids law enforcement in their pursuit for justice. Our journey concludes by exploring the essence of Crime Stoppers' mission and its synergies with Palm Beach's public safety initiatives. We delve into the critical importance of anonymity in crime reporting, underscoring how it empowers individuals to speak up and potentially save lives. As we set our sights on 2024, aiming for heightened community interaction and education, I invite you to become an Ambassador of Hope and join the conversation on social media to ensure the safety and bright future of every child.Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County links:More information on Cruisin' for Crime Stoppers ride on Jan. 27, 2024Report a crime OnlineYou can help. On this week's show, your host, Justin Mog, highlights the fact that January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness Month with our guest, Dr. Theresa Hayden, Treasurer of the People Against Trafficking Humans (PATH) Coalition of Kentucky (http://pathcoalitionofky.org). Their mission is to foster awareness, one step at a time, by educating and equipping everyone to understand, identify and reduce the risk of human trafficking through educational programming. Led by a Board of Directors, PATH works with academic, community, and faith-based organizations in an effort to raise awareness. PATH offers educational sessions on Human Trafficking 101, Digital Safety for Youth and Young Adults, and other topics related to understanding the impacts of human trafficking in modern day society. PATH was born in 2013 when a few Sisters of Charity of Nazareth (SCN) began a public prayer service during Derby Week because of the SCN Corporate Stance against Human Trafficking. Officially designated as a 501(c)3 in 2015, PATH strives to become the leading education and awareness organization in Kentucky regarding human trafficking. In January, 2010 the President dedicated the month of January to raising awareness about the different forms of human trafficking, also known as modern slavery, and educating people about this crime and how to spot it. Media coverage in Louisville around the 1st Saturday of May invariably includes a reference to sexual human trafficking incidents. While it is important the public be informed this type of criminal activity occurs in our backyard, it is more important they be informed that it occurs year-round and that trafficking includes more than just sexual based incidents. * Calculate your own Slavery Footprint at https://slaveryfootprint.org/ * PATH is co-sponsoring a Cross-Cultural Hospitality Training with La Casita Center, Thursday, January 19th, 11am-1pm, online (Register by Tuesday, Jan. 17th at http://bit.ly/3V0m3WH) - a training focused on cultural sensitivity for those providing services to a diverse and multicultural audience, including info on local cultural awareness, and tools for best practices based on the first-hand experience of a local non-profit for the immigrant and Latinx community. * UofL will be hosting a Human Trafficking 101 Workshop on Tuesday, January 24th, 5-7pm, online. When was the last time you felt a strong desire for revenge when you were wronged? Our human nature is to want an ear for an ear and an eye for an eye. God says vengeance belongs to Him because He comes to redeem what has been taken. As this is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, I can safely say that it both hurts and angers God to see His children hurt each other. In this episode, I will be sharing:A sneak peek into the guests I will be having during human trafficking month The horrible trafficking statistics that are right in our backyard God's game plan to redeem what is takenWe are commissioned, in the Bible, to defend the weak and oppressed. I pray that you are inspired to look for ways that you can help those in your community that need to see Jesus. If you are willing, share your answer to my question, leave a comment or email me at Cheri@cherifletcher.com.I love hearing your stories and knowing how I can pray for you.

Dave [00:00:29] Welcome to the Ending Human Trafficking podcast. My name is Dave Stachowiak. Sandie [00:00:35] And my name is Sandie Morgan. Dave [00:00:37] And this is the show where we empower you to study the issues, be a voice, and make a difference in ending human trafficking. You hear us say that at the beginning of every episode, and we do invite you every time to start by studying the issues, and we often have that invitation at the end of our conversations. For those who haven't already, go to endinghumantrafficking.org to download Sandie's guide as a starting point. And yet there is so much that you can do, regardless of how much you have listened to us or what your level of expertise is, or perhaps you're just picking this up for the very first time. The mission of the Global Center for Women and Justice is to take action and to move beyond just awareness and to actually take action in order to have some wonderful things begin to move forward. And you can, regardless if you've been thinking and contributing for a decade, or perhaps you've just downloaded this episode for the first time today. There are many things you can do that go beyond awareness and that you can take action on right now. Today we're going to look at six. We're often asked, Sandie and I, what can I do to move forward? In addition to listening to the show, in addition to going on the website, what can I do to move forward? And we've got six key things for you. Things that are very timely in the next couple of months that will help you to move forward and to take action to go beyond awareness. Sandie, I'm so glad we get to have this conversation because there's a lot happening, isn't there? Sandie [00:02:13] Oh, my goodness. There really is. And when I think back to 2011, when you invited me to start this podcast, I had no idea we would still be doing it 11 years later at my desk. But the Trafficking Victims Protection Act was passed in October 2000 and shortly after the United Nations passed the Palermo Protocol.
