In this episode of our podcast series dedicated to the new editions of the Handbook of Labor Economics, Arindrajit Dube, Provost Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, tackles the contentious issue of raising the minimum wage. While some advocate the minimum wage as an effective tool to combat poverty, others have argued that it could destroy jobs and increase prices. Who's right? Prof. Dube addresses this question my summarizing what economists have learned about the impacts of minimum wages in the labor market over the last 25 years. He explains how higher minimum wages do not necessarily lead to job losses, but they could instead help firms reduce turnover and retain workers, as well as increase family incomes and reduce reliance on social assistance. Arindrajit Dube is the Provost Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and a Research Fellow at the Institue of Labor Economics (IZA). Professor Dube is considered a world-leading expert on the economic effects of minimum wage policies. His current areas of research include wage inequality, the importance of labor market competition, the effects of minimum wages on employment and inequality, the role of fairness concerns at the workplace and the role of firm wage policies in explaining the growth in inequality. D.O. or Do Not: The Osteopathic Physician's Journey for Premed & Medical Students
In today's we present our first in a series of myths and misconceptions episode about Osteopathic Medicine. There are many online comments and on blogs commenting on the reason why, over the past ten years, so many Osteopathic Schools have opened. Most of the reasoning and presented is unfounded and just plain untrue. After Dr. Storch was asked on a recent interview on the white coat investor the same question and was unable to answer it. . . we decided to do some digging!Today we will get the answer to this question through an interview Chad Toujague the director of the Dr. Kiran C Patel Institute for Graduate Medical Education. The institute has not only supported an Osteopathic school at Nova Southeastern, opened a new Osteopathic School in Orlando, and opened a new MD school in the United States at Nova Southeastern , but are opening international schools in India and Africa as well! Do you think Chad had a better answer than say. . . a pediatric nephrologist? Of course he did! Want to know why so many new DO schools have opened recently and Coca's response to this phenomenon? Listen closely to today's interview and learn! We certainly did!

SAM CARNER is a New York bookwriter / lyricist. He won the $100,000 Kleban Prize for librettists, the Richard Rodgers Award, and the John Wallowitch Award for songwriters under 40. He and Derek Gregor were among Playbill.com's 12 “Contemporary Musical Theatre Songwriters You Should Know,” and 13 of their songs have been nominated for MAC Awards. Their musical UNLOCK'D played and extended Off-Broadway run at the Duke Theater and was produced at Houston's Queensbury Theatre. His musical ISLAND SONG has had over 50 productions internationally, including at the Adirondack Theatre Festival, London's Stratford Circus, Vanderbilt University, etc. His show SECOND LINE was the 2020 Pace New Musical, having had readings at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, NC State, and more. Sam taught musical theater writing and analysis courses at Yale, NYU, and Temple University. Musical Creators' Institute is on a mission to empower early-career musical theater creators. We work to provide unique tools and insights into musical theater form from highly-experienced, top-level musical theater professionals. We aim to do this with a program size that is large enough to provide ample collaborative opportunities and small enough to provide individual attention and at a price-point that will not saddle our students with years of debt. We believe in fostering a shared language between artists with diverse areas of specialization. This involves supporting the development of multi-disciplinary artists and offering all artists opportunities to expand their areas of knowledge. The philosophy of program founder, Kleban-Award-winning lyricist-librettist Sam Carner considers all ideas and concepts as viable and views the role of a training program as helping students to express their ideas with greater clarity and to build greater drama around their themes. This leads to a supportive, non-judgmental environment that encourages exploration and artistic passion. Develop your own unique artistic voice, explore new collaborations and artistic communities, and gain a solid framework in musical theater structure and style.

John Lyda is a full-time faculty member at AB Tech and is the thumb that grasps the educational hammer in our Brewing, Distillation, and Fermentation program. It's the first two-year accredited degree in the country that gives students an Associate's of Applied Science in Distillation and Fermentation. After working at The Highland Brewing Co. for over 20 years, John took his passion and applied it to teaching at the Craft Beverage Institute. Today, John and I discuss the evolution of the Craft Beverage Institute and how he has been an essential part of directing the curriculum. We explore how interest from international students has added more products to the program and the exciting capstone projects our students have created. We share why a two-year degree is an advantage compared to going straight into the industry and give examples of how our students' careers have benefited. We also explain how the degree covers the business aspects of brewing and the networking opportunities people gain when completing the program.
