Hosts Godswill Ugwa and Josellie Rios are setting sail on a watch of the One Piece anime! Join them as they recount the story of Monkey D. Luffy on his quest to become the King of Pirates and the crew he meets along the way.
All our hosts get together to receive some very special guests: One Piece fans! We collected thoughts from straw hats attending Funimation's OP Lightbox event on what makes the anime great, and discuss our favorite things about being a One Piece fan celebrating the 20th Anniversary.
Franky departs, and so do we! On our last podcast episode of the season we finally get the crew back together when Usopp finds a way to mend things with the Straw Hats, and we witness their new shipwright say his farewell to Water 7 in the most scandalous way. Not before ending our 20th Anniversary binge on a cliffhanger our hosts are still raving about!
We say our last goodbyes to the Going Merry after she rescued the Straw Hats from Enies Lobby, and Luffy throws the biggest (and most expensive) party in Water 7's recent history, much to Nami's dismay. Our hosts also welcome special guest Caitlin Glass, who talks to us about our dear Vivi and the One Piece music she got to work on!
Aaron and Josellie finally get to see Luffy’s Third Gear in the ultimate fight against Lucci. The Straw Hats hold the Bridge of Hesitation and Kokoro is a… mermaid?
Our hosts appreciate Nami’s kickass skills against Kalifah with her upgraded Clima-Tact and declare Sniper King the MVP of the episode for his crucial part in setting Robin free. Also, where does Granny Kokoro keep getting all these wine bottles? Featuring a special guest interview with Colleen Clinkenbeard, the English voice of Luffy!
Relive our special episode recorded live from Anime Expo 2019! Josellie welcomes guests Patrick Seitz, the English voice of Franky, and Director of Production/English voice of Capt. Bellamy, Justin Cook!
It’s a CP9 showdown this week in One Piece at a Time! Each Straw Hat faces a lethal agent as they try to get the five keys to free Robin. Chopper makes a tough choice and scares Josellie and MJ when he turns into a monster, but they both have a laugh when Kaku tries to make giraffes happen. Featuring a special guest interview with ADR Director and English voice of Buggy, Mike McFarland!
We take the jump to the Tower of Law quite a few times and have a look back at each of the Straw Hats' journeys before the story at Enies Lobby continues. Josellie explores the Straw Hat Theater shorts and picks Chopper Man as her favorite (to no one's surprise!)
Our hosts cry for Ohara and Nico Robin’s tragic story but find a moment for tears of joy when Franky uses his Coup de Boo.
The Straw Hats begin the storming of Enies Lobby! Our hosts meet more members of CP9, gasp as Zoro makes the sea train fly and cheer when Luffy faces 10k soldiers on his own. When will they reach Robin???
Jonna and Josellie try their best to figure out how Zoro and Luffy can make a hole in a wave as the Straw Hats try to catch up to the Puffing Tom in time to rescue Nico Robin.
Our hosts explore Franky’s past and how the sea train was built. In the present, Josellie finally learns the truth about Robin’s betrayal and the wish she would sacrifice everything for.
CP9 reveals their true faces and Josellie feels shocked and betrayed. Franky helps Usopp solve the mystery of who repaired the Merry in Skypiea and Jonna gives us some insight on the true story behind it.
Josellie starts losing her patience while waiting to find out more about CP9 and Robin's motivations while MJ holds back tears for the Merry's condition. Original music for the podcast composed by Austin Black.
After Nami runs over the villagers with her waver, the Straw Hats make their way to the beautiful water city. Jonna and Josellie can’t get over the aesthetics and wish they could explore Water 7 on a Yagara. Also, there's such a thing as a sea train?
Our hosts witness Luffy's relentlessness when it comes to his crew! The Straw Hats get their memories stolen by a seahorse and wonder if Zoro's still on their side, while Josellie and MJ analyze if Nami is taking the right course of action when she forgets she already liberated her village and bails.
The Straw Hats face the Foxy crew in a Davy Back Fight in Long Ring Long Land! Luffy will try to keep his crew together while our hosts analyze Foxy’s tactics and enjoy all the entertainment value this well-crafted sports event has to offer.
Our hosts meet the "newest straw hat,” Condoriano, and try to figure out which G-8 shenanigan is funniest. The real Straw Hats escape G-8 the same way they came in and reach a very loooong island.
The bell rings for Shandora and Skypiea comes to an end! The Straw Hats fall from the sky, where Luffy gets in a battle of wits with Commander Jonathan and our hosts declare Robin the MVP of the G-8 arc for her sneaky moves.
Sanji uses the power of love to find Nami and we finally learn the true story of Noland the Liar and the Great Warrior of Shandoria (we’re not crying, you’re crying).
In episodes 176-183, Zoro discovers Holy is as obedient as Ohm boasted. Our hosts explore Eneru’s Ark Maxim and watch the impending doom about to befall Skypiea while Luffy meets god.
Somehow things got more dangerous in Skypeia within episodes 168-175. Last chunk was a sacrifice and now we have a death game with indigenous guerrillas, sight-seeing priests, bizarre goat warriors, a boxing dog, a giant snake, and an omniscient and ruthless lightning god. 81 warriors enter, 5 people survive. Who will survive this? We're going to find out!
Now that we're in the sky, it's time to deal with GOD'S JUDGMENT! Wait isn't that backwards? Apparently Godswill (and Josellie because she's on the ride) has been bad and must go through the Skypiea ordeals in episodes 160-167. Priests, sacrificial altars, giant sharks, and a giant pterodactyl-like bird that shoots fire is here to judge the gang. At least there are wolves that know how to party in this chunk of episodes!
We get out of the filler episodes with an explosive start in episodes 144-151. Godswill & Josellie go deep-sea diving with monkey-themed pirates, get in bar fights with loud-mouthed jerks, go bird-hunting, and eat pie with a black-stubbled big man. OK, they didn't do that, but they saw it all go down in this podcast episode! It's a ton of fun that you don't want to miss.
The Straw Hat crew quickly make their way to the heavenly realms in episodes 152-159 but it's not all it's cracked up to be. Josellie & Godswill ascend to the skies only to be accosted by demon warriors, carnivorous sky fish, and crawling sky cops that won't leave us alone. Maybe we should just stay on earth and deal with pirates there...
Godswill & Josellie break out the waterworks again as the Alabasta arc comes to a close and a new member joins the Straw Hat group in episodes 128-135! They sing, laugh, cry, and sing again as many old characters and moments make their way to the arc's conclusion. And then for the second half, the duo experience some of the best filler in anime as they go through many good flashbacks and even an amazing cooking episode. Fireworks and curry will help you get through this emotional podcast episode.
This episode has goats. Baby goats! Nuff said! The hosts go through anime episodes 136-143 and finish season 2. Josellie & Godswill experience time travel, learn what an abacus is for, and of course have fun with baby goats. And to top off the podcast episode we bring another guest, Walter Parenton, the Senior Promotional Video Editor at Funimation who has worked on One Piece since Funimation acquired it! It's a fun and enlightening episode you have to check out.
We get hype with the Straw Hats as they take turns fighting individual members of Baroque Works in anime episodes 112-119! The hosts discuss the strategies of the Straw Hats, the skills of the Baroque Works members and if Usopp is a good teammate. Get geeked with us as we go through this podcast episode.
It's the final countdown of the showdown in Alabasta! Now that the officers of Baroque Works have been defeated, we're speeding on in One Piece episodes 120-127. Can the Straw Hats take out Crocodile and stop the bomb that is supposed to destroy the capital of Alabasta? It's an intense 8 episodes that you have to hear about in this podcast episode!
The squad goes through the hardest road trip with Luffy and gang because it's in the desert and Luffy is hungry. As the Straw Hats trek through the Alabasta desert in episodes 96-103, we see them go through a filler episode that made Godswill cry! Godswill & Josellie encounter Kung-Fu Dugongs (we had to look up what dugongs were), cacti that get you high, and a literal mountain-sized ball of crap among many other things.
Josellie & Godswill finally make it to where Crocodile is with the Straw Hats in anime episodes 104-111! Finally out of the desert sun, the gang encounters Mr. 0 of Baroque Works and are pushed to work with the mysterious Mr. Prince. Also they bring on their second guest, Dmitryi Khylnin the Community Specialist of BANDAI NAMCO, to geek out heavy on why One Piece as a whole and which games there are to play. Don't play around by not listening to this episode!
From the coldest to the hottest, the crew and the duo make it to Alabasta, the desert kingdom, in anime episodes 88-95. Chopper finds his footing with the Straw Hats and we meet even more standout characters like Crocodile (a man who does not look like a crocodile) and Ace, the hot man looking for Luffy (he also has fire powers). Get emotional with us!
The hosts make it to the coldest island, Drum Kingdom, in anime episodes 80-87 and meet the cutest doctor imaginable. As the Straw Hat crew races to save Nami who is dying from a dire sickness, we encounter humans that can transform into bulls, monstrous bunnies that seek only death, a witch doctor that is only 139 years young and Chopper -- a talking reindeer with the saddest backstory since Rudolph.
In anime episodes 64-71, the duo finally make it to the Grand Line and get One Piece started. They party with the denizens of Whiskey Peak, geek out over Zoro’s slicing skills and get inspired by Coby’s new workout plan. Godswill also learns the correct way to clear his throat thanks to Igaram.
We welcome a new guest Trixie, the cutest Triceratops baby you have heard so far. In episodes 72-79, Josellie, Godswill, and Trixie brave Little Garden, a land full of dinosaurs and also home to two warrior giants!
Our hosts finish the first season of One Piece with a trip to Loguetown in episodes 48-55. They face the fearsome Smoker, learn that Luffy doesn’t drink, meet the man everyone calls Daddy and much, much more.
Josellie is determined to show Godswill that dragons can be good when they go through One Piece episodes 56-63. Even though it’s a filler arc, the two fall in love with Grandpa Ryu, wonder what animals they would talk to and laugh at a guy named Eric.
There’s a One Piece anime episode in week 6 of the Merry Route that Godswill hates watching because he can’t swim. He also brings the water works as we finish the Arlong Park arc and get through Nami’s story. Plenty emotions are experienced by our two hosts!
Maybe Josellie’s opinion of Nami gets better after anime episodes 30-37 in this podcast episode? You gotta listen! We bring in our first guest, Jonna Miller (Senior Copywriter at Funimation), who explains Nami’s plight in the most eloquent manner.
Who doesn’t get hungry when talking about Sanji’s backstory? Hosts Godswill and Josellie reach the Baratie, the seafaring restaurant where Sanji works as a sous chef. With anime episodes 24-30 come his tragic backstory, the menacing Don Krieg, and the harrowing Mihawk. A hearty helping of the podcast is coming right up!Binge Routes: https://funi.to/onepiecepodcast
The duo can’t get over the moonwalking, Steven Tyler lookalike nor the cat-themed pirate group. Josellie & Godswill go over anime episodes 16-23 and discuss Usopp’s (brave) attempts to ward off pirates, the effectiveness of hypnotism and using it for good, and if it’s possible to really use three swords like Zoro. Also, Godswill has the Django theme song stuck in his head.Binge Routes: https://funi.to/onepiecepodcast
The journey continues as the duo power through episodes 9-15 of the One Piece anime, where they meet (Captain) Usopp and go through his saga against Captain Kuro. Godswill learns lying is bad when they see the effects Usopp has on the town and later discover what happens when a real pirate crew clashes with the Straw Hats!Binge Routes: https://funi.to/onepiecepodcast
In this first episode, Josellie & Godswill start the One Piece binge, where they watch the show from the beginning following the Merry Route binge schedule (8 episodes at a time) and go over each one in this weekly podcast. As it's Josellie’s first time watching the show, she's shocked at how goofy Luffy is and the hosts react to Zoro joining the crew, the fight with Buggy and much more!Binge Routes: https://funi.to/onepiecepodcast
