Title: No Such Thing As Good or Bad Kids: Dr. Shefali on Conscious Parenting Description: Today, we're taking a trip into the archives to revisit a 2023 episode with renowned clinical psychologist and listener favorite, Dr. Shefali Tsabary, where we dove into the deeply-layered topic of conscious parenting. Those of us in the middle of life, still parenting kids at home, adjusting to parenting adult children who just launched out into the world. or in any season of the parenting journey, really, will find much to learn as we look back (and forward) at our parenting patterns. Highlights from this convo include: Defining conscious parenting and the three stages of the parenting map Debunking the notion that as parents we are supposed to create happy, perfect superhumans by following traditional parenting rules Dismissing the notion that there are good kids and bad kids—and how to avoid using these labels Revealing the five ego patterns that parents might not even realize inform their quest to raise amazing children The three reasons why children act out or misbehave and how you can learn not to shame them for it The results of over-parenting and how it shows up in your adult children How it's never too late to become a mindful parent Segments: Bless and Release: Avoiding difficult conversations Thought-provoking Quotes: The evolution of the planet depends on the evolution of the parent. – Dr. Shefali Everyone wants a new tomorrow. But what we don't realize is that a new future comes with an absolute willingness to disrupt the past. – Dr. Shefali There is no such thing as a good kid or a bad kid. So, what kind of kids are there? Just kids – just humans who are terribly flawed like we are, and terribly, but amazingly blissful like we are. They're just this unique combo and they defy labels. – Dr. Shefali Punishment, shaming, blaming is never sustainable. I cannot tell you how many times a day I tell parents, ‘Listen, you appear to get control in the moment, but long term, it's going to be unforgiving.' – Dr. Shefali How do we constantly show our presence [to our adult children]? Unequivocal cheerleading. ‘I'm thinking of you. I miss you. I'm remembering you. I adore you.' Let them know they are on your mind but not involved in their day-to-day. – Dr. Shefali When the ego crumbles, proportionately the heart expands, and you then are just this heart-centered being able to connect to the other people in a very attuned, compassionate, genuine way. And your children will feel it. – Dr. Shefali Resources Mentioned in This Episode: The Conscious Parent by Dr. Shefali Tsabary - https://amzn.to/4aNAPd8 The Parenting Map by Dr. Shefali Tsabary - https://amzn.to/3EER148 Dr. Shefali's previous interview on For the Love:Releasing The Fantasy of “The Good Girl” with Dr. Shefali Tsabary - https://jenhatmaker.com/podcasts/series-35/releasing-the-fantasy-of-the-good-girl-with-dr-shefali-tsabary/ Guest's Links: Dr. Shefali's website - https://www.drshefali.com/ Dr. Shefali's Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/doctorshefali Dr. Shefali's Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/doctorshefali Dr. Shefali's YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/c/DrShefali Dr. Shefali's TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@doctorshefali Dr. Shefali's Podcast - https://www.drshefali.com/podcast/ Connect with Jen! Welcome to today's episode, where we'll dive deep into the world of child mental health— a more pressing issue than ever. Did you know that 1 in 7 children aged 4 to 17 meet the clinical criteria for a mental illness over 12 months? Yet, despite these staggering numbers, only half of these children will see a clinician. Access to professional help is limited, and waiting lists can be painfully long.To help guide us through this complex and often overwhelming issue, we are joined by Dr Billy Garvey, a developmental paediatrician, senior specialist at one of Melbourne's largest paediatric hospitals, and host of the Pop Culture Parenting podcast. With his new book Ten Things I Wish You Knew About Your Child's Mental Health, Dr Billy is on a mission to arm parents with the knowledge and tools they need to support their children, whether they're grappling with anxiety, low self-esteem or behavioural challenges.Dr. Billy believes there is no such thing as a "bad child." He emphasises the importance of understanding the critical foundations of good mental health—from attachment and social skills to self-esteem and anxiety management. Join us as we explore the strategies that can help foster hope and resilience in our children's lives.‘Ten Things I Wish You Knew About Your Child's Mental Health' is Dr Billy Garvey's first book, and it's out now.About Dr Billy GarveyDr Billy Garvey is a developmental paediatrician with over 20 years of experience working with children. If you want to deter a behavior and they are not listening, you can make them listen... right? Many of us were brought up on spankings. But let's call it what it is, hitting. Does hitting our kids really work? That's what we are discussing in this week's topic.Sure it might seem like a quick fix but what are the consequences? If we are setting the example, the example we are setting is that hitting is ok. Sean Killingsworth, founder of the Reconnect Movement joins us as we confront one of the most urgent issues of our time - the impact of screens and smartphones on our children's lives. In this compelling discussion, Sean sheds light on how screens have dramatically altered childhood experiences, leaving a generation trapped in an addictive cycle of entertainment and artificial social interactions. They delve into personal anecdotes, highlighting the profound consequences of excessive screen use and the erosion of genuine social connections. Sean calls for a crucial shift in parenting and education, advocating for a return to genuine, in-person interactions and the creation of phone-free mini-communities. He emphasizes the necessity of protecting childhood and fostering authentic connections, challenging us to be bold leaders in our communities and prioritize our children's well-being. Join us in this critical conversation as we strive to give our children the childhood they deserve - one free from the clutches of a screen-dominated society. It's time to reclaim childhood and preserve the essence of true socializing for the well-being of future generations. In this episode of the Everyday Black Men podcast, we start the podcast off with Sham recalling what happened when he tried to get his hair braided in peace. Reed asks a question about Jollof Rice, and Riker tells him what's up with that. Sham reflects on to be or not to be with a lesbian and other things before we finally address the Dr. Umar story. Riker asks the titular question, which leads to another Sham story on lousy parenting. Riker says everything these days is a grift; Reed wants to start a poll on who eats Mayo vs. Miracle Whip, and much more before we bring the podcast to a close.

On this episode, I will be going over what the Burning Man Festival is, what kind of depraved people go to an event like Burning Man, the depravity that occurred there, and how God completely shut it down with floods, illness, and fire tornadoes (pretty epic, right?). Sins have consequences -- sometimes instantaneously. You guys should also look up the rainbow that God left over the Burning Man Festival after he plagued it. To me, that signifies God's grace, but also His anger toward sin. Hedonism just isn't it, guys. The 10 Commandments exist to lovingly protect you, not to needlessly restrict you. --https://www.thebrandsunday.com/products/the-bible-study-physical

I am thrilled to share with you the latest episode of the Jaded Mechanic podcast. In this thought-provoking episode, we dive deep into the toils and triumphs of a career in automotive repair. As always, we have amazing guests who bring their unique perspectives and expertise to the table. Here are three key takeaways from this episode that I believe will resonate with all of you:1: The Power of Perspective: One of our guests beautifully highlighted how there is so much more that unites us than what sets us apart. We often label people based on their work history, but this guest challenged us to see beyond the resume and embrace the common ground we share. Let's break free from preconceived notions and approach each individual with an open mind.2:Life Beyond the Shop: While our careers in automotive repair are undoubtedly important, it's crucial to remember that our lives extend beyond the shop. Our families, children, and significant others play a significant role in shaping who we are. This episode reminds us to find a balance between work and personal life, cherishing the moments that truly matter.3:The Value of Continuous Learning: The highlight of the day for one of our guests wasn't the work at the shop but the training they received that evening. This emphasizes the importance of investing in our professional growth and seizing every opportunity to learn and network. Let's strive to be lifelong learners and embrace the gold nuggets of knowledge that come our way.I want to express my gratitude to our incredible guests and partners with the Changing The Industry Podcast for making this episode possible. If you haven't already, be sure to subscribe to the Jaded Mechanic podcast and set it to automatically download every Tuesday morning.
