The Krewe welcomes Ryotaro Sakurai back to the podcast to break down the pros and cons of both, from flexibility and independence to planning, convenience, and shared experiences. The Summer convention season is still swinging big, from Anime Expo taking place at the beginning of July to San Diego Comic Con just having wrapped up this past weekend. With all of these major conventions happening in a short time frame there surely can't be many new or exciting announcements for the anime and manga fandoms, right? WRONG! SDCC surprised many with an enormous amount of manga announcements from publishers big and small across Japan! In fact, more manga publishers were present and presenting at SDCC than had been in attendance at Anime Expo! Crazy, right?! With all of the announcements over the weekend, Frankfurtter and MagicallyAverage decided to breakdown the many announcements made from the publishers and give their thoughts on the current trends they are seeing in the manga market! Janet and Isaiah go over their time playing through Resident Evil 5 together. It's a replay for Isaiah but a first for Janet so they talk about what they expected, how the game compares to some of the other Resident Evil games, and what's next for the duo to co-op (GAMES). Then they talk about going to Anime Expo 2026! Having gone last year they generally know what to expect (or so they thought), but each year shows it's going to be a little bit different from the year before. Show Notes 0:00: In a packed episode of TheOASG Podcast, Justin and Helen first kick things off with the news of Crunchyroll announcing that their store can only be accessed by Mega and Ultimate subscribers starting in August, and both hosts explain the ramifications of this decision moving forward. 17:41: Anime International Company (AIC) has won their civil suit against AIC Rights and producer Yoshikazu Maeda, which may be worth monitoring considering the series they’re involved with; Helen and Justin discuss the former CEO of Crunchyroll launching a new B2B marketplace for anime licensing and if it can actually make an impact in the industry. 26:00: Sumi Eno announced that the After God manga will take a break following its latest chapter releases; Negi Haruba needs to recuperate until sometime in August due to his health, so Go! Go! Loser Ranger! will be on hiatus until then. 26:51: The voice of Fujiko Mine in the first Lupin the 3rd TV anime series, Yukiko Nikaido, passed away at 87 due to old age; Book author and illustrator (Kiki’s Delivery Service) Akiko Hayashi died of pneumonia on July 1 in a hospital in Nagano prefecture at 81; The official X/Twitter account for Kadokawa’s Aokishi magazine revealed that manga creator Ryoichiro Kezuka died in late May. Licenses 29:12: While Helen has a grand time calming down her dogs due to World Cup shenanigans, Justin talks about a few licenses that did happen in the last few weeks, starting with Seven Seas surprising everyone by announcing they’ve licensed Kazuo Umezz's Ultraman on a Friday; Neguse Okita’s Soon, You’ll Paint Your Heart Out and Tabireco’s Baby Road Trippers have been added to MANGA Plus; Ichiro Sakaki, Ryohei Yamauchi & Hiyori Asahikawa's Trained to be the Ultimate Anti-magic Spellblade, Ryō Hiromatsu & Osamu Kozuki's Uglymug, Epicfighter SSS, & Kanade Ezaki's AGERECO! Getting Into the Voice Acting Spirit! is now on Manga UP!. 30:57: And while not technically licenses, this occurred during the very busy Anime Expo weekend so this did not get covered: Akimi Yoshida's Banana Fish and Hisaya Nakajo's Hana-Kimi have been added to VIZ Manga's library — with VIZ finally having a Hakusensha title on their service, does this mean Yona of the Dawn has a chance? (Maybe not this year though) Streaming News 32:48: Crusher Joe, Crusher Joe: A Trap of the Frozen Jail, Crusher Joe: The Final Weapon ASH, Haré+Guu Deluxe, Haré+Guu FINAL, and Simoun are now on the latest service now streaming anime, Darkroom; Hyakushō Kizoku – The Farmer’s Days and 500000000 years button is now on RetroCrush; and apparently this was announced at Anime Expo, but Strange: Junji Ito’s Tales for Sleepless Nights will stream on the HBO Max service internationally this fall. Main Topic: Summer Anime 2026 First Impressions 36:18: Let’s just say Justin (and especially Helen) are overwhelmed with choices for the summer anime season, which is packed with some seemingly quality looking works. In fact it’s so packed that Justin even had to lament the works he was interested in but just can’t watch due to time (37:28). Helen has checked out a few anime (Sparks of Tomorrow and BANG DREAM Yume∞Mita among the new shows), but Justin has a lot of anime to discuss — from what he surprisingly did not enjoy to those he’s having a good time with to the three shows that stand alone for him this season (1:36:17: Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia, Iron Wok Jan!, Though I Am an Inept Villainess) Weird News 1:58:25: Let’s just say you certainly want your fans to buy the magazine that holds the final chapter of the series you like — but for Blue Box fans, there was some trouble getting that WSJ issue due to One Piece and that series celebrating its 29th anniversary! 2:00:09: There is apparently a need for more Tenchi, if the Kickstarter that has succeeded means anything; Yes Live-action Hollywood Naruto is a go, and naturally the hosts wonder if it’ll be any good. 2:02:51: Normally Banana Fish streaming on Netflix next month after the rights expired on Prime Video would belong in the streaming news section…but this getting a dub just a year after the AI dub hilarity last year on Prime makes this turnaround pretty wild! If there’s anything you’d like to share about the latest news or your thoughts on a very packed summer anime season, please feel free to reach out to us on Twitter (@TheOASG) or comment below with your thoughts! Another weekend of Anime Expo has come and gone, and with it came a LOT of things from all corners, a true cornucopia of styles for just about everyone: take your pick, be it green yuri with Nirvana or nice boats with School Days... yes, really, as well as plenty of manga to come later this year and next year, TRIGGER leading us on with the fourth Imaishi/Nakashima project coming soon, AnimEigo giving everyone an appetizer plate before Discotek takes over Otakon, a first look at the new Star Wars Visions project, and some info on Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2 as was always planned (ahem ahem) and the reveal of more STEEL BALL RUN coming in the fall so everyone can stop breathing down Netflix's necks. (They haven't, they're still asking for more.) And if ALL OF THAT isn't enough, the first hour of this show has plenty of pre and post AX news items worth talking about, like some classic (and modern classic) movies coming back to theaters, new projects from Madhouse, Sunrise and SHAFT, and Kasagi Lobo coming very soon, a new middleman company in AniBiz launching, BANANA FISH leaving Amazon for Netflix and with a new (made by humans) English dub, the return of an old "online" title and also the unexpected return of an old "galactic" friend via Kickstarter (link down in the description) to make this a very long show that will hold all of you over until Otakon next month. (After this one, we all kinda need a break.) intro - an amazing(ly long) show awaits 7:56 - pre and post-AX news items (Akira back in theaters, Annecy Festival, AniBiz company launched, Tenchi Galaxy Kickstarter details) 1:01:06 - Anime Expo Day 1 (Square Enix, Aniplex, Kodansha) 1:29:21 - AX Day 2 (AnimEigo, Yen Press, Crunchyroll, Cyberpunk Edgerunners 2) 2:11:56 - AX Day 3 (Denpa, TRIGGER, Netflix, Seven Seas) 2:47:53 - AX Day 4 (Tokyopop, GKIDS) 2:51:02 - home video releases (Tekkonkinkreet 4K, Revue Starlight) Kickstarter link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/armigerentertainment/tenchi-galaxy-anime-pilot Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

Because honestly it does for me a little. I think it's wild GTA6, a digital-only game with no gameplay footage, is selling preorders like crazy. It's not gonna run out of stock. What if it comes out and is just mid or janky? If IGN gives it a 7 will someone burn down their offices? If GTA6 leads to more PS5 and Xboxes being sold, what's even the point of releasing a PS6 or Helix?jtlawbass: Has your favorite character or IP been made into a good game? If so, what was it? If not, what would your ideal game for that character or IP be? Daredevil is my favorite character, and obviously we've yet to have a good Daredevil game. My ideal DD game would be a mix of the new Spider-Man games with some investigation/detective work thrown in. It would be fun to have some Ace Attorney elements where you get to play as Matt in the courtroom, too.Tatertot96: What kind of gamer are you when it comes to getting stuck? This apparently set Helen’s Bluesky timeline on fire once news was posted there, and both hosts discuss some background details involving this manga over the past few months. Ink Pop, Ize Press, AnimEigo (33:32:) noho’s My Neighbor Yokai Dacto's Legroom oaen and LOGO's Philomel the Fake SAISA's Footsteps in the Snow Sakon the Ventriloquist Drucker in the Dugout! Main Topic: Spring Anime 2026 Final Impressions 38:57: Justin and Helen take no breaks and hop right into wrapping up the Spring anime season, which featured a good amount of standouts (Witch Hat Atelier, Ramparts of Ice, Dorohedoro S2) and some mostly solid works (An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess, Always a Catch, Gals Can’t Be Kind to Otaku!?). Weird News 1:24:50: Welp, this section is the all industries are over, as AI this and AI that has taken over the minds of people who ultimately are trying to get away with being cheap — first with this anime done by an AI animation company that looks familiar in some cases if you stare long enough; then you have the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry considering providing subsidies of 11.5 billion yen (about US$71 million) to 15 eligible media companies aiming to increase overseas sales — the subsidies would aim to encourage the companies to utilize generative AI to translate their works. Welp again! 1:34:59: It’s 2026 and we have The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All getting a pretty superb adaptation — from how it looks to them having Dave Grohl say that Kurt Cobain would have loved Green Yuri, which got Helen to know all about Kurt Cobain; We also have Bamco (Filmworks and Pictures) having to apologize for making an unauthorized references to a number of works — in particular Attack on Titan — in their Sgt. Frog anime film. 1:38:04: Many questions have arisen with the announcement of Netflix working on a live-action Persona TV series, and one of them has Justin wondering why anyone let this be announced at all. After a short break, Unqualified Game Chat is back with Episode 139, and Spencer Legacy joins me to catch up on everything that happened while we were buried under Summer Game Fest coverage, Anime Expo planning, reviews, and the usual Noisy Pixel chaos. This episode starts with a detour into movies, including our thoughts on the new Scary Movie, why some comedy already feels dated by the time it hits theaters, and how legacy sequels can fall into the trap of chasing nostalgia without earning it. We also talk about recent theatrical releases, Weapons, Naked Gun, Austin Powers, and whether some comedy franchises can survive being dragged into 2026.From there, we get into Summer Game Fest, including the games that stood out the most to us. Spencer talks about Tomb Raider and Star Wars Galactic Racer, while I explain why Phantom Blade Zero ended up becoming my game of the show. We also discuss how some action games still struggle with basic combat feel, why Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy left me concerned, and why games like Banishers and Immortals of Aveum deserve more attention.Spencer also shares early thoughts on The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, including its HD-2D style, its fairy companion Faye, and why new IP adventures still feel special. We somehow end up talking about Star Fox, Toy Story, Pixar's sequel problem, and why nostalgia can make some games or movies harder to judge honestly. To close things out, I talk about reviewing Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, why the lack of rollback netcode is frustrating, and my plans for Noisy Pixel's upcoming after-hours show as we continue the road to 100,000 subscribers. Episode 139 is available to everyone, but starting with Episode 140, new episodes will return to Patreon first before going public.

Home Made Kazoku is back after a 10-year hiatus and they’ll be working on music again, so for those who grew up with Bleach, Eureka Seven, and Naruto: Shippuden, here’s your dose of nostalgia in 2026! 18:03: Even the Student Council Has Its Holes! will go on break due to Muchimuro’s health, but it will resume early June; Kumichi Yoshizuki announced a break from publishing the Nankai Trough Kyodai Jishin manga due to a good number of health ailments. 19:33: English voice actor Bill Wise, who voiced in a number of anime dub roles from Initial D: Legend to Moeyo Ken, passed away at the age of 61; Japanese voice actor Takahiro Fujiwara passed away a few weeks ago at the age of 43 — had a number of roles in anime but while voicing the character Kan Jou (Huan Chang) in the Kingdom anime, he had to step down from the role in August last year due to health reasons; Musician and composer Yuji Ohno — known for the iconic opening and soundtrack of the Lupin the 3rd series — passed away due to natural causes at the age of 84. 24:05: Talent agency Aoni Production announced that Wakana Yamazaki passed away at 61. She had an health ailment earlier this year that was serious enough for her to stop recording episodes of Detective Conan in February. The long-time voice of Ran and her experience in the voice acting industry was a huge loss, and from her Conan castmates and staff to other talents across different industries, her impact was notable and will be sorely missed. Akemi Okamura, who voiced the character since March 14 while Yamazaki was undergoing medical treatment, will now take over the role of Ran moving forward. Licenses 29:54: Yen Press apparently had to have announcements pre-convention and at a convention! And there is a lot of licenses they announced: Kumo Kagyu, Kōtarō Sekine, & Noboru Kannatuki's Moscow 2160 manga Fujino Ōmori, kakage, & Suzuhito Yasuda's Argonaut: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? So here’s their set of announcements until then: Hana Hasumi's Pendulum: The Beastmen Omegaverse Saga Rico Sakura's Good Night, My Little Bird Oki Eiko's The Cat Who Didn’t Believe in “What-ifs” KNOTS' The Tomorrow I Want to See with Kako: A Time-Loop Romantic Comedy Dokuzu Kento & Nekosuke Ookuma's Goetia Shock (Airship, digital) Hagane Kurodome & Kayahara's Wandmaker of the Ruined World (Airship, digital) Two new Siren audiobooks: Sohei Mikawa's Magic User: Reborn in Another World as a Max Level Wizard (Narrated by John Patneaude) & Satori Satori’s A Good Day Starts with Cats and Books (Narrated by Sara Matsui-Colby) 38:13: Abrams ComicArts’ Kana imprint announced they’ve licensed Tsubonari’s Antengai: Twilight Metropolis; Manga Mavericks Books announced they’ve licensed Zawayuki Taki’s Tie Me Up, Stare Me Down; One Peace Books announced on Behind the Manga that they've licensed Toshimichi Uzou, Si-me, & Kewi Hayashi’s My Sweet Marriage to My Ex-Nemesis; and we have a new title added to K MANGA: Rin Mikimoto’s Keepsake Heartache. 39:34: California-based distribution company Deaf Crocodile announced they’ve licensed the Frankenstein, Legend of Terror anime, which Helen explains seems like an odd title for them to bring to home media. Streaming News 40:45: We will have a Macross screening of Do You Remember Love? at Anime Expo — and there will be guests at the con too; Netflix revealed they will stream Ginga Tokkyū Milky☆Subway Kakueki Teisha Gekijō Iki, the re-edited film for Yōhei Kameyama’s Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express in the U.S. on June 1, while announcing a few other anime that will appear on their service, from My Dress-up Darling Season 2 starting yesterday to Shangri-La Frontier: Season 2 appearing June 1. 44:42: Licensing and dubbing studio SkySet Entertainment announced they will stream the Go Forward anime series over the summer; Streaming service Darkroom has added the Haré+Guu Deluxe anime with the English dub for streaming with a premium membership; Cineverse’s RetroCrush streaming service will have the Medabots anime stream on the RetroCrush FAST channel every Saturday and Sunday, which gets Helen once again wondering what the appeal of watching anime at certain times of the day; and Tubi TV announced on Monday that it has licensed Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, a new anime in the Scooby-Doo mystery comedy franchise — this gets the hosts wondering if we’ll be seeing more of Tubi TV and anime streaming moving forward. Weird News 52:10: The two hosts discuss Ken Ogino commenting on his Lady Justice manga that he created for Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2015, and what the editors told him that shifted the mindset of his serialization back then. 56:46: Let’s just say the Gamestop buying eBay did not last very long, and Helen could not believe the statement eBay gave after rejecting the bid; well, this took a turn in a good way involving singer aiko and why she hugged a fan during a concert; There’s apparently going to be a Hello Kitty live-action/animation film coming in 2028, but it sure went through some changes since 2019! 1:01:47: And well, the crossover of all crossovers has happened that makes total sense this year: Detective Conan and Detective Star Precure are crossing over this year — maybe Justin will give thoughts on both in the next episode!
