The weather is perfect for a sweatshirt or light jacket plus the addition of seeing nature along the way makes for a perfect biking combination… just don't forget the helmet! WHY COOK ON GAS GRIDDLE BBQ; HOW TO SEASON & MAINTAIN A GRIDDLE Grilling in the bbq world or using a smoker has been a long lasting tradition when it comes to the outdoors. If you haven't purchased a griddle to try, you might realize you are missing out. We jumped on the bandwagon of adding the outdoor propane griddle a few years back. As a result of the diversity, we now own two in different sizes. The first purchase was a 4 burner propane gas Pit Boss Griddle. We chose this one for the front grease cleanout location as where the griddle stays on our cabin deck, that is more accessible. The second purchase was a 17” propane gas Blackstone Griddle. After realizing how easy it was to cook all our meals on the larger version, we opted for a more compact one to take along camping, going to the lake or for picnics. CONS OF BBQING: Regardless if it is a Griddle, Grill or Smoker; we have learned the same issue applies and that is providing an area with minimal wind. Now there are “windshields” one can make or build, but we have had to watch the wind regardless when using any of these. NOTE: Do not use a griddle, grill or smoker inside of buildings. GRIDDLE SEASONING & MAINTENANCE Once purchasing a griddle, before use it is an ABSOLUTE MUST that one reads the manufacturer's booklet regarding the Preparation, Seasoning and Maintenance of the griddle to ensure the longevity of the cooking top but also so that food doesn't stick and tastes desirable. 5 Easy Steps To Season A Gas Griddle BBQ Rust Removal: New or Old moisture may collect on the cooking surface causing a patch of rust or a rough spot. Scrub away any rust or rough spots using a Scotch Brite pad. Clean Griddle: If the griddle is new from the factory, it may come with a thin oil coating. To clean us a small amount of mild dish soap in warm water to remove the factory coating. Proceed to also wipe off everything else after use with a clean damp cloth. Seasoning A Griddle: A griddle must be seasoned before use. First turn all burners on high heat, allowing for the griddle cooking surface to begin changing color. Using high smoke point cooking oil like flaxseed, drizzle it all over the surface. Careful it is HOT. Have ready a pair of tongs or heat-resistant gloves, take a lint-free cloth as the goal is to evenly wipe or coat the entire cooking surface including the tight corners as well as the outside of the griddle surface. Wait and Repeat 3x: This is a slow process, and needs to be repeated a minimum of three times. The oil will start to smoke with the burners being on High. Wait until you see that the smoke has stopped. Drizzle and wipe another coating of oil thoroughly. Repeat the process until there have been at least 3 applications. READ YOUR GRIDDLE SEASONING INSTRUCTIONS. Coat To Protect: Once the initial oil seasoning is complete, turn the burners off so that the surface may cool to where it is warm to the touch. Using a lint free cloth, begin wiping a sealing product such as BuzzyWaxx (beeswax). Bacon Up - Bacon Grease, or manufacturer's of griddles offer their own products. A thin coat is all that is needed, just make sure you reach all the corners. After completing these 5 simple steps, your griddle is ready for breakfast, lunch or dinner! So now start slinging some hash, becoming your own hibachi backyard grill or even try baking cookies - ENJOY! Before getting into the running, I was actually a SMOKER who couldn't even run down the block. I used to hold onto the belief that marathons and races in general were for people who were not like me. I genuinely didn't know that it was physically possible for me to build up to be able to run long distances let alone a FULL MARATHON. Now I have 27 marathons under my belt and have helped thousands of people go from beginner runners to marathon finishers. In this episode we are going to talk about what it takes to build up to a marathon and how to do it safely so that you can continue to run for a lifetime and not just be a ‘one and done'. Marathoning maybe USED to be just for elite, but with the recent running BOOM we are starting to see that normal every day people with no experience can achieve amazing things and build up to a marathon. If your goal was to run a marathon in the next 6-9 months and you had NEVER done a run before, where should you start? Start with walking Run/Walk intervals every other day Start with 10-20 min and build up Cut back weeks every 2-3 weeks Find a half marathon half way through the training Join a a group or find someone/something to be apart of community is everything Don't worry about workouts- go at a zone 2 pace How do you know if you are running the correct pace? Zone 2 is going to be the safest place to be- grab a HR monitor and 60-70% of your max HR Another way to do this is think of a pace that you are not needing to take breaks from- should feel super easy. Breathing is light Your long run pace should be the same as your easy run pace How to build the long run You have to have increase long runs to be able to finish a marathon Old rules state to not have a long run be more than 30% of your weekly mileage, but these rules may not apply if you are newer to the sport and just can't run high mileage yet. - to balance out the fact that it is risky to have such a long run relative to weekly mileage (ie a 12 mile long run when you only run 20 miles a week) we will want to keep these long runs extremely slow. Confidence is key Everyone is nervous about the marathon distance I've done 27 marathons and still freak out about long runs It's good to find something to distract yourself and remain calm in the early miles FUELING! This is no joke. You can get ‘away' with faster on shorter runs but when you make the jump to doing 60-90 min runs, it's going to hit different. Fueling is EVERYTHING Eat a carb rich breakfast Take 60 grams of carbs PER HOUR minimum. Aim for 1000mg of sodium PER HOUR Train the way you plan to race Don't ruin your race by putting too much time goal pressure It's fun to push yourself but it's not fun to overshoot your capabilities and end of hitting the wall.

Are you confident in diagnosing white patches? Which white patches need an URGENT referral? How do you tell the difference between lichen planus, lichenoid reactions, and other common lesions? Dr. Amanda Phoon Nguyen is back with another amazing episode, this time diving deep into the world of oral white patches. Jaz and Amanda explore the most common lesions you'll encounter, breaking down their appearance, diagnosis, and management. They also discuss key strategies to help you build a strong differential diagnosis, because identifying the right lesions early can make all the difference in patient care. https://youtu.be/xlQpuQu2Hl0 Watch this full episode on YouTube Protrusive Dental Pearl: A new infographic summarizing Dr. Amanda Phoon Nguyen's key teachings. Jaz describes it as an easy-to-follow "cheat sheet" designed to simplify complex ideas and make it easier to apply the concepts discussed in the episode. You can download the Infographic for free inside Protrusive Guidance 'Free Podcasts + Videos' section. Key Takeaways White patches in the oral cavity can be classified into normal variants, non-pathological patches, and potentially malignant disorders. It is important to identify the cause of the white patch and differentiate between different types. Referrals should be made based on the characteristics of the white patch and the urgency of the situation. Clinical photographs are valuable in referrals and can aid in triaging patients. Ongoing monitoring is important for potentially malignant disorders. Lichen planus can have different types and presentations, and a biopsy may be necessary for certain cases. Enlarged taste buds, particularly in the foliate papillae, are usually bilateral and not a cause for concern. Oral lichenoid lesions can be triggered by dental restorative materials or medications, and a change in dental material may sometimes improve the condition. Smoker's mouth can present with white patches and inflammation in areas where smoke gathers, and counseling patients to reduce smoking is important. Oral submucous fibrosis, often caused by areca nut chewing, requires regular review and counseling patients to stop chewing the nut. Ashley, 31 from England. I got into bbq by mistake, having bought an offset smoker accidentally. I intended to buy a cheap charcoal grill but had no experience or knowledge in what I was buying. That was in the summer of 2020, fast forward 2 years from then and I started my own home takeaway bbq business, and then fast forward another 2 years and we've just done 16 pop up catering events and a wedding this year. We've been on the meat and greet bbq podcast, and met Evan LeRoy & Bradley Robinson (chuds bbq) and I'm hoping to visit Texas next year with several bbq joints confirming that they'd be happy to have me work there whilst I visit, including LeRoy & Lewis, Hurtado BBQ and Bar-A-bbq. I am getting people visit from hours away to try our bbq and someone from New Jersey was in the area visiting and they made the effort to visit our pop up and said how they were blown away by it. I work full time still at the moment and have a Fiance and an 8 month old son, so it's been a juggling act so far this year. I have no previous catering experience or restaurant experience either. Just one man accidentally falling head first into this crazy world of bbq. I focus on central Texas style cooking on an offset imported from Houston, using strictly Oak.

Lewis, Tolkien, Mark Twain and more, as they were all pipe smokers. At the top of the show we will have a trip report on the NASPC show from this past weekend in Colombus from Dave Peterson.
