This week's Lore Watch Podcast is just as majestic as the last, with even more discussion of the lore of Jurassic Park. This time, Joe, Matt, and special guest Eric O'Dea discuss the second set of Jurassic media, starting with Jurassic World. They give a rundown of the plots of the newer movies, then move into analysis. While scientific hubris clearly has its role to play, perhaps the true villain here is capitalism. But whatever the allegory or moral, I think we can all agree that dinosaurs are cool -- especially the ones InGen (or now, Masrani Global) made up along the way.If you enjoy the show, please support us on Patreon, where you can get these episodes early and ad-free! (image source: https://jurassicpark.fandom.com/wiki/Shunosaurus/JW:_TG?file=Shunosaurus.png) Host Matthew Donald and guest co-host Stephen Curro discuss Shunosaurus, a small longneck dinosaur that's not very notable except it has a club at the end of its tail. That's not that notable either, Shunny-boy. I have a club too! A “Cool Dino Fan” club, currently the only members being me and my mom. From the Mid to Late Jurassic, this 35-foot eusauropod sauntered around its marshy Jurassic scrubland while evolving its tail specifically to deal with the most badass of all dinosaurs, my boy Sinraptor. You know my favorite dinosaur is powerful if it forces fricking SAUROPODS to evolve further defensive measures like club tails. I don't care if that might not be the main reason, because it absolutely is in my book! God, I love Sinraptor so much… Want to further support the show? Don't you just love an insane scheme by the Master? Especially when it involves disguising himself as a horrendous racial stereotype when he has no reason to be in disguise at all? Oh, and we have some wonderful product placement for Heathrow Airport and Concorde. And this story is *somehow* the Season 19 finale. That's right -we're talking about Time-Flight! Join us as we discuss the brown-ness of the 1980s, whether the episode takes place in the Jurassic or Pleistocene era (it's the former – Reilly's right, Anthony's wrong), why the Master feels the need to disguise himself, the TARDIS repair hour, and the rather questionable behaviour and motives of the Professor. Anthony finds a way to sneak in some Tinie Tempah lyrics without a single other member of the cast noticing. Typical. ANOTHER EMERGENCY FRANCHISE UPDATE: they went and made another Jurassic movie. Hooray! Alex and Ben were dreading this one but to their surprise, this new entry is actually not completely terrible... and isn't that the best we can hope for these days? We're joined by Ben's friends and creators of the classic high school YouTube Jurassic Park parody video Cretaceous Park: returning guests Matthew Nicholson and Maxim Gertler-Jaffe, and a first time guest long-time listener Chris Moroz. We talk about some other movies we've seen recently such as EDDINGTON, Caveh Zahedi's THE SHOW ABOUT THE SHOW, MOONAGE DAYDREAM, SPEED, SPECIES, THE PIANO TEACHER and more. We also talk about corporate franchise synergy, Fortnite collaborations, and the mess that is STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER.We'll be back next week with the new NAKED GUN film!Follow us @thefranchisees on Instagram and Twitter and email us at thefranchiseespod@gmail.com
I'm currently off on my honeymoon (finally!) but that doesn't mean you're missing out on your weekly dose of ranting. This week, I'm thrilled to share a special episode where I had the absolute pleasure of being a guest on the Nerdia Podcast, diving deep into the thrilling world of Jurassic World: Rebirth.
The seventh instalment in the Jurassic Park (now Jurassic World) series, Jurassic World Rebirth might be the first of the sequels to really come close to capturing the kind of wonder, excitement and horror that the 1993 original offered. That might be in part because it cribs liberally from it, with both moments and entire sequences closely evocative of their 32-year-old counterparts. But there's plenty else that's new here, and Rebirth is a characterful expansion to the Jurassic Park story. Thoughts of containment have finally been totally discarded - dinosaurs have now been roaming the Earth for some time, to the point that they're dying out everywhere other than a narrow band around the equator, which is illegal for human travel. So that's where we're headed, of course, as a pharmecutical exec seeking to make a fortune from dino-sourced drugs hires a team of mercenaries to extract blood from three creatures: one that swims, one that walks, and one that flies. It's a decent structure that tells you what to expect and allows for a variety of settings and action, into which are placed such charismatic stars as Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend. Director Gareth Edwards builds the world beautifully, exploiting it for that sense of scale that so defines his aesthetic, and reminding Mike in particular of his feature debut Monsters; and although in simple terms - this is, ultimately, a blockbuster sequel - the film has a moral message worth expressing. Jurassic World Rebirth is easily the best of the Jurassic sequels and equally easy to recommend. Just try not to focus too much on how it reminds you of a better film from 1993. Recorded on 13th July 2025.

This week on the Toy Power Podcast; we are still down a Scot, as he is still unwell. But that will not slow him down in contributing to this ep! Before we get into the main segments, we chat about Ben & Frank's latest Plastic Addiction, in the form of Transformers Blokees! Prior to chatting about the Superman Film itself, we focus on the Toy likeness compared to what the actor actually looks like! With a little Jurassic World banter in between. Then, without another moment to spare, we get right into the James Gunn driven film itself! We chat towards our Cinema experiences and start off with a non-spoiler discussion; before we head into a chat about the whole Film itself! Giving it our typical DVG rating out of 19 too. Then changing gears, we introduce a New segment - named: Variant Schmariant! We each pick two variants of a pre-existing character (in toy form) that just doesn't need to exist. We unearth some quite silly versions of characters that had a legitimate Toy Release; that clearly logic was not a concern at all!! Plus we tie a nice bow around the proposed Nick-Names for both Frank & Scot. Enjoy!!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jurassic World: Rebirth made a lot of money at the box office, just like the previous Jurassic World movies, but nobody seems to like it or them. So how did the franchise that began in 1993 with Jurassic Park get to this point? Kyle seeks to answer that question this week with Adam Murray, who has spent a lot of time researching all things Jurassic.

Today I'm delighted to host comics writer and artist Sophie Campbell on the show. Sophie has recently kicked off both writing and drawing Volume 8 of DC's favorite Maiden of Might, Kara Zor-El or Supergirl. As a longtime fan of the character, I've thoroughly enjoyed Sophie's take pulling from the foundational 70s era and still finding room to make it distinctly her own. We ease into the conversation talking about Kara's appreances on food because Sophie is such a big cereal fan, explore the imprint of the 70s on Sophie including how important fashion and costumes are, debate who the best werewolf in the DC Universe is, why she wanted to include Lesla at the beginning of this new arc, returning to Midvale, and Sophie's love of kaiju inlcuding touching on her Mothra: Queen of Monsters series with IDW. Issue three is out on stands now. Make sure to find Sophie on BlueSky Follow Comic Book Yeti
It's just Kevin and Lauren again this week, since Andrew thinks having a life is important or whatever. They talk the Squid Game finale, Jurassic World Rebirth, Megan 2.0, and Heads of State. The show opens up like last week, with the discussion of the final season of Squid Game. This time, though, Kevin and Lauren come with full knowledge of the finale. If you haven't watched for some reason (seriously, why haven't you?!?) be warned this will be spoiler heavy. Basically, the spoiler free review is, it's a really strong ending to a really great show. No other episode or spin offs need to be created, and yet... But I digress! Next up, Kevin talks Jurassic World Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johanson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. As far as the Jurassic films go, it's definitely one of the better ones. It's go action, adventure, and a boatload of CGI (that could be better, lets be honest). The story and the heart are there and it leaves the door open for more films, so what's not to love?!? Speaking of things not to love... Megan 2.0... Lauren saw this film and, like the majority of the viewing audience, was left wanting. The film steers away from the horror genre into more of an action film and it seems like it doesn't translate well. The film is problematic in many ways, all of which are detailed by Lauren. So if you need to convince yourself not to see this one in the theater, don't skip this section. Remember, at APNC, we love to watch so you don't have to! Kevin closes the show with Heads of State, a film he was convinced would be in the same category as Megan 2.0. But here's the thing - it's a lot of fun. John Cena and Idris Elba play the US President and the British Prime Minister, respectively. This is an action comedy so we aren't looking towards award season, but they play their parts wonderfully. Look, if you loved the action comedies of the 90s (tink Tango and Cash or anything with Arnie), then you should really enjoy this film. As a massive bonus, it's on Prime and won't cost you a dime! As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week! "Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the Earth." It's a double feature summer at Movies That Made Us Gay, and we watched the original "Jurassic Park" and the latest entry "Jurassic World: Rebirth" with our friend and the newest member of the MTMUG Five Timers Club, Hiko Mitsuzuka. His monogrammed smoking jacket is on back order. Listen, what else can be added to the conversation about the original Jurassic Park? Yes, Laura Dern was a sexual awakening for many a young gay girl (and boy), yes the Dilophosaurus is a lesbian icon (much like the aforementioned Laura Dern), and yes Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck) in kahki short-shorts made us feel some type of way with those bulging thighs. But we're here to add to the conversation as well as talk about the latest - and possibly queer-est (most queer?) entry into the Jurassic canon. While there may be subtext indicating a possible future love story between Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) and Zora Bennet (Scarlett Johansson), we would like to point out that Jonathan and SacrJo could still turn out to be gay besties in the inevitable sequel. Did Scarlett let out a sigh of relief when she found out her male lead in this film is an out gay male actor? Possibly. Should the filmmakers have just given in and let Jonathan play the role using his normal accent? Listen, Sam Neill's hybrid Kiwi-American accent worked just fine in the original. "Slutty little glasses" and questionable accents aside, Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson are a welcome addition to the Jurassic family. Is that a read on previous cast members? We'll let you decide. "Clever girl."
