Episode 601: WARDOGS Beta vs Modern Warfare 4 Beta — We Played Both

The Dropshot - A Call of Duty Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 24, 2026 108:39

Two shooter betas dropped on the same weekend, so we played both and came back with very different verdicts. WARDOGS is Bulkhead's 100-player, three-team tactical shooter with a real money economy — you buy your loadout every respawn, you lose money when you die, and it turns out that changes how a match actually feels. Modern Warfare 4 finally dumps omnimovement, removes bloom from hipfire, and put a campaign mission in the beta for the first time ever. We get into the WARDOGS recon grind and the 5.56 break-action "sniper" that shouldn't exist, the money system and whether it creates real gear fear, three-team fights and whether they actually matter, spawn vehicles as an infinite money glitch, base building and anti-air, and why there is never — not once, not ever — an unoccupied tower. On the CoD side: how the movement feels without omnimovement, no-bloom hipfire on keyboard and mouse, opening-night demon lobbies, whether Warzone and DMZ2 have a chance, and the annual spawns discourse that needs to die. Jake played both. Raz refused to pre-order. Somehow they still ended up disagreeing. 0:00 - Intro 2:26 - How to even get into these betas 2:50 - "I'm not pre-ordering this pile of shit game" 3:23 - Patreon, the FPS lore bonus episode, and the patron hangout 6:09 - Gut check: which beta did we keep loading back into? 6:39 - Jake played the MW4 campaign mission first thing in the morning 8:10 - Opening night of the CoD beta was as sweaty as it gets 11:09 - The WARDOGS recon grind is making the game worse 12:22 - The 5.56 break-action "sniper" that should not exist 13:31 - Two gripes: no free look, and you can't reload while sprinting 15:10 - Recon 10, the Mosin, and a $50,000 unlock 16:41 - There's loot on top of the towers — finding an SV-98 17:44 - What surprised us 18:43 - MW4 movement with no omnimovement 21:48 - So what's actually new in MW4? Raleigh Bikes: is it the end of the road?

Mark and Pete

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 11, 2026 8:38

zRaleigh bikes, the future of Raleigh, Accell Group insolvency, British bicycle history, the Raleigh Chopper and the decline of iconic British brands are at the heart of this episode of Mark and Pete. Raleigh has been part of British life for well over a century, but now the famous Nottingham-born bicycle name faces a very uncertain future. Could Raleigh really disappear? And if it does, what exactly are we losing? For generations, Raleigh was simply the bicycle. Not a bicycle brand among many, but the bicycle you knew. Children wanted a Chopper, teenagers wanted something faster, adults rode Raleighs to work, to the shops and, quite often, into a hedge because bicycle brakes in those days seemed to regard stopping as more of a suggestion.Founded in Nottingham in the nineteenth century, Raleigh became one of the great names of British manufacturing. At its peak it was producing enormous numbers of bikes, exporting around the world and employing thousands of people. The Raleigh Chopper became a genuine cultural icon. Then there were the Grifter, the Burner, racing bikes, touring bikes and the sort of sensible three-speed machine your grandfather could ride while wearing a jacket and tie, apparently without breaking sweat. But the modern bicycle business is a very different beast.Raleigh is now part of the Dutch-owned Accell Group, which has run into serious financial trouble after years of debt, changing demand, excess stock and a post-pandemic bicycle market that has proved rather less buoyant than some investors had hoped. The result is insolvency proceedings, possible rescue bids and a deeply uncertain future for some famous cycling names. So we ask whether Raleigh can survive, and perhaps a more awkward question: when does an iconic British company stop really being British? If the factories have gone, the ownership has gone and production has moved elsewhere, does the badge still matter? We think it does.Brands such as Raleigh are part of the texture of ordinary British life. They carry memories with them. First bikes. Scraped knees. Christmas mornings. Cycling to school. And, yes, those magnificent Choppers with handlebars apparently designed by somebody who thought steering should involve upper-body exercise. This week we look back at Raleigh's extraordinary history, examine what has gone wrong and ask whether this really could be the end of the road for Raleigh.z

The Tim Conway Jr Show Hour 4 (8.5) Whenever President Trump lifts off in Marine One for Andrews Air Force Base, the skies around Ronald Reagan National Airport — just 3.5 miles away — are supposed to go completely quiet. No takeoffs, no landings. That rule was broken yesterday when a commercial jet blasted off while the president’s helicopter was still in the air, creating a serious near-miss that violated long-standing security protocol. The alleged Trump stalker arrested with a gun and bullets at Trump National Golf Club has an unusual first name — Jeanine — which immediately sent Timmy into Johnny Cash mode and “A Boy Named Sue.” That led to a classic Conway story: Back in his limo-driving days, Timmy once picked Cash up at LAX to drive him to a music festival in Antelope Valley where he was the main draw, spent three days chauffeuring him around greater LA, and watched the Man in Black insist on riding shotgun because he wasn’t that kind of celebrity. At the end of the gig, Cash handed him a golden ticket. Meanwhile, public pools are still open, but chlorine is not Purell. Cryptosporidium can live in the water for up to 10 days, and cyclospora isn’t just on your shredded lettuce anymore — so shower first and maybe keep your mouth closed. Chipotle is dealing with a jalapeño recall that may be tied to a salmonella outbreak, and Timmy admits he was so desperate at Burbank Airport that he accidentally charged into the women’s restroom. Nature did not care about the signs on the door. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Laconia Bike Week was getting hammered by torrential rain.A tornado warning had most of the area shut down. But the people who made it to the Kustom Social Show weren't going anywhere! For Big Truth Podcast Episode 166, we joined forces with the Lowlife Podcast and recorded live from the Kustom Social Show and Choppahead's 25th Anniversary Party at Laconia Bike Week 2026.This wasn't a polished studio podcast. It was a rain-soaked, tequila-fueled gathering of chopper builders, punk-rock lifers and the people stubborn enough to show up when nearly everyone else stayed home.Guests include Jimmy Gestapo of Murphy's Law, John from Eazy Co., Chris and Lisa from Cycle Source Magazine, Terry Shanks, Lenny Lashley, Pistol Pete Sosa and more.Jimmy G talks about racing vintage motorcycles on the beach, working around New York's old Psycho Cycles scene with Indian Larry, his nearly fatal Pan-Shovel crash and the long-awaited new Murphy's Law record.Cycle Source discusses surviving 30 years in independent motorcycle media, keeping print alive and preserving the beautiful lawlessness of the legendary SmokeOut.We also hosted a rain-soaked Danger Dan's kickstart competition between a Panhead, Shovelhead and Evo; the winner was awarded a spot in the Idle Hand Built Motorcycle Show; gave away a mountain of gear; and watched the entire thing steadily descend into exactly the kind of chaos you'd expect. Most of Laconia may have shut down. We didn't. Stinker Madness - The Bad Movie Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 3, 2026 91:26

The movie that sets up the great Choppers vs Trucks War of 2006. Trucks is what happens when you take a Stephen King story about murderous vehicles, remove most of the things that made it interesting, and then somehow replace them with even more nonsense. Like Maximum Overdrive before it, this adaptation manages to botch King's source material while still producing something that is far more entertaining than it has any right to be. The central problem remains the same: they're trucks. Just run away from them. Yet Trucks compensates for its complete lack of credible tension with bizarre decisions, ridiculous characters, and enough questionable filmmaking to make it an absolute gold mine for riffing. The movie's biggest strength is that it understands, perhaps accidentally, that watching people hide from trucks isn't particularly exciting. Instead, it keeps throwing increasingly stupid complications at the survivors while the trucks continue doing truck things. There are moments where the movie seems to forget that these are supposed to be unstoppable killing machines and instead treats them like particularly aggressive parking-lot hazards. The result is a strange mixture of horror, action, and roadside slapstick where you can spend as much time wondering what the characters are doing as you do worrying about whether they'll survive. It doesn't quite reach the deranged heights of Maximum Overdrive, which remains in a league of its own when it comes to bizarre performances, insane choices, and general "what the hell am I watching?" energy. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Maximum Overdrive can become surprisingly tedious between its moments of glorious insanity, whereas Trucks keeps things moving and continually finds new ways to be ridiculous. It may not have a Green Goblin truck or an gatling gun vending machine, but it has its own special brand of nonsense that makes it extremely riffable. And, of course, Brenda Bakke is in it, which is always a point in its favor. Ultimately, Trucks is a ton of fun for virtually any level of bad-movie fan. If you're looking for a faithful Stephen King adaptation, you're going to be disappointed. If you're looking for genuinely frightening killer vehicles, you're probably going to be disappointed. But if you want a cheap late-'90s made-for-TV horror movie where homicidal trucks chase people around while everyone makes questionable decisions, Trucks delivers the goods. It's not quite the same as Maximum Overdrive, but it doesn't need to be. It's goofy, dumb, surprisingly watchable, and packed with enough material to keep a group of riffers busy from beginning to end.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Mikaela Hoover. Hoover's best known for her long partnership with James Gunn, who created a web short for her called Sparky & Mikaela before casting her in a series of superhero films, including 2010's Super, 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and last year's Superman. Following those roles, she's stepped into the world of anime by playing Chopper in Netflix's adaptation of One Piece, which Madden calls the “Japanese Star Wars.” Stopping by the Artist Friendly studio, the actor discusses how the character helped heal her inner child, the importance of trusting instincts as an artist, and the freedom that comes from embracing who you are. “It was almost cosmic,” Hoover tells him. “I was like, ‘I love this role, and this role is me,' and I knew nothing about it.”  ------- Listen to their Artist Friendly conversation on Spotify. ------- Follow Artist Friendly! Mikaela Hoover is in the midst of a well-earned banner year. She's made memorable appearances in a number of projects over the years, including scene-stealing work as Floor in Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, but her run in 2025 and 2026 is putting her in the spotlight in the way she deserves. Soon after making her debut as Cat Grant in James Gunn's Superman, she appeared in the highly anticipated second season of Lee Sung Jin's Beef as Ava. As though that project pairing isn't impressive enough, Hoover also joined the ensemble of one of the most popular series out there right now, Netflix's live-action One Piece.Even though Hoover appeared on Collider Ladies Night a mere year ago, there was so much more to discuss given all that she's accomplished in a single calendar year. After discussing her unforgettable key scenes in Beef Season 2, we dug deep into the process of voicing and doing the facial capture performance for one of the most beloved One Piece characters, Tony Tony Chopper. While breaking down how the team brings Chopper to life on screen, Hoover revealed that that process is getting a major overhaul for Season 3. Hosted on Acast.

What if the most dangerous spiritual practice isn't the one that looks dark and dangerous, but the one that looks peaceful, loving, and full of life? In this profound episode of the Meditation Podcast, we sit down with Tom Snow, a man who has spent 56 years navigating the complex intersections of faith, healing, and spiritual deception. From a terminal liver cancer diagnosis at age 16 to hearing the audible voice of God and witnessing a miraculous healing that defied medical science, Tom's story is one of radical transformation. We dive deep into the "greatest masquerade" in spiritual history, the difference between religious legalism and a true relationship with the Divine, and how to distinguish the "still small voice" from the many deceptive whispers in the spiritual realm. Whether you are seeking healing, clarity, or a deeper connection to your own sovereignty, Tom's insights offer a roadmap for finding the peace that truly passes understanding.     ⏱️ Timestamps 0:00 Welcome & Introduction to Tom Snow   1:16 Tom's Story: A terminal liver cancer diagnosis at age 16   2:02 The Weight of Guilt: Believing he caused his mother's cancer   3:15 Visions of Eternity: Seeing life continue without him   4:00 The Audible Voice of God: "I love you" and a promise for the future   5:10 A Brother's Transformation: The gospel message after an LSD trip   6:24 The Chopper and the Hell's Angels: A radical turn toward darkness   8:16 The Grand Canyon Plan: A 16-year-old's plan for revenge and suicide   9:53 The Bubbling Up: Feeling the presence of God for the first time   11:41 The Miraculous Healing: A football-sized tumor melts in 24 hours   13:22 56 Years of Walking: Moving beyond organized religion and denominations   14:35 The Occult's PR Team: Why deception often looks like light   16:13 The "Checkmate the Matrix" Event: Finding solutions in community   25:57 The Names of the Disciples: Roman influence and Hebrew roots   27:11 Neither Jew nor Greek: Spiritual equality in the anointing   29:03 The Denomination Trap: Why 47,000 splits don't equal one bride   30:14 Hollywood vs. Reality: Debunking myths about demons and holy water   36:31 The Peace that Passes Understanding: The ultimate proof of God's presence   43:26 The Asbestos Connection: The tragic story behind Tom's mother's cancer   45:56 The Guilt of the World: Why Tom initially refused to seek help   58:26 The "PayPal" Achievement: How people are bilked for spiritual milestones   60:45 Psychedelics and Ayahuasca: Seeing connections vs. financial exploitation   61:42 Distinguishing the Voices: How to hear the true and living God   65:21 Don't Let Him Win: A powerful prayer for those facing suicidal thoughts   68:42 Nature's Golden Fire: Tom's mission to provide salt-free, sugar-free food   71:31 The 280 Million Americans: Why healthy food is a life-and-death issue   72:40 Where to Find Tom: JustToBeClear.com and his books   73:42 Outro: RoyCoughlan.com and the Meditation Podcast

The Wall Street Journal’s Shelby Holliday details the dramatic rescue of two U.S. soldiers that followed. Election betting is on track for record highs this cycle, and the prediction markets are dealing with a surge of insider trading. Reuters’s Douglas Gillison walks through the cases already emerging. Dozens of families who were separated during the first Trump administration have been separated again, despite a landmark settlement meant to reunify them. Garance Burke of the Associated Press tells us the story of one of those families. Plus, the House passed Republicans’ $70 billion immigration bill, the FDA approved the first new U.S. sunscreen ingredient in nearly two decades, and how the Knicks’ playoff run is making MSG Sports shareholders very rich. There are so many great looking games from the 70's and 80's. Games that were probably too expensive at the time. Games that just had table presence to spare. Sub Search was one such game. Edward and I loved that game. It has led us to search out other games in that realm. Chopper Strike was our next purchase. Chopper Strike has a tag line on the box that reads: “The Two-Level land/air Battle Game.” And that was precisely what drew us to the game: the two-level aspect.Since the game came out in 1976, and it had many little pieces, I went to my board game dealer whom I trust. He had a complete copy with all the pieces intact. I brought it home, and Edward wanted to play it immediately. So, grab your favorite opponent, and let's play Chopper Strike!

This episode heads back to 1986 to revisit Castle Rock, a town where the kids have sharp tongues, the leeches are way too friendly, and a single blueberry pie can spark a total 'Lard-Ass' apocalypse.   If there was ever a question of why four twelve-year-olds thought a two-day hike in Keds was a good idea, this is the place to find the answer. Grab a comb, watch out for Chopper, and remember the sentiment that one will never have friends like the ones they had when they were twelve. It is time to talk Stand By Me.
