On this episode, I set out to explore how casket manufacturers feel when people die, but I had no idea I was going to take a history lesson about the casket manufacturing industry in Nigeria, how it started, and how a whole street on Lagos Island is now unconsciously known as ‘The Burial Street'. In this episode, I caught up with a good friend in an absorbing conversation. And interestingly, he happened to be my birthday mate. Which made this particularly exciting. We had a cool and intriguing talk around being grateful, his pressures in life, focusing on his journey, what he likes, what he thinks as a matter of serious interest, and what he feels about certain things. You will surely find his story is deeply inspiring. It's also a summary of how my week has been so far; spending my birthday working, the outpour of love from my well-wishers, overwhelming messages of warm felicities, and the lovely calls. Special Shout-Out: Seyi Olaniyan (Project Coordinator), @weareredx, for consistently showing up for us daily and managing everyone for these two weeks. This is a random feature of a few of my media colleagues and fellow participants at the #RadioNowBootcamp. From being selected from over 4K applications to being picked among the lucky 50 and for the next big thing in town. That was particularly defining and fulfilling. This is a live recording from Elegushi Beach. I've always wanted to do this — an episode live from the beach! And I had to do it. And it feels surreal now. Over the past days, these featured participants have been hopeful for an exciting career, learned so much, gained immense exposure, forged power networks, and are very much ready to take charge in the space! Samuel is that typical African man dubbed ”woman wrapper.” And like every other young man, he's effeminate. He has been called several names. Tagged being gay and feminine. And insulted and shamed for being different in demeanor. Sadly, a few years ago, he went to a party, lost his phone, and ”unknown” gained access to his social media accounts. His phone was hacked. He was outed as being gay. In this episode, he shared how it all transpired, his family and friends' reaction to the posts. It's been a cycle of shame and grief for the lad. From losing his dad just recently as well to a whole lot more. He shared his story raw with me and explained what kept him going and how life has been in general for him. In his words from a place of resilience, ”I picked myself up from the ground and I dust my body.” Against all impossible odds stacked against him, he is still surviving, crossing over hurdles, crushing down obstacles and pulling through. Sadly, Nigeria is burning to the ground under its government. Killing her people fighting for their rights and demanding social justice. And worse still, they've not been silenced and will never be silenced. Going forward, we will continue to speak up against oppression and demand justice no matter how long it takes! May the souls of our fallen heroes, that we have lost of this brutality and the #EndSARS protests, rest in peace. Enjoy this week's episode of TWT in deep and sober reflection. In case you know, Adelle Onyango is indeed a fierce woman — driving conversations, I mean meaningful and impactful conversations about Africa and its people, about their raw yet unique human journey from diverse perspectives. After working as a radio presenter for over a decade at Kiss FM, a reputable Kenyan radio station, she now sets out to foray into a more self-fulfiling career in podcasting. Her path to stardom as an award-winning media personality has never been more awe-inspiring. She started the weekly podcast series, Legally Clueless where she's currently documenting 100 African Stories that will inspire you. Even more, Adelle was listed among BBC100 Women ’17, a Facebook icon of change ’19, OkayAfrica's Top Women of '18, and also, among 100 influential Africans ’19. She also founded an initiative geared towards educating the public on issues facing vulnerable and minority populations, specifically women and youths, and also creating solutions-oriented content for them. Yes, on our talk show, we caught up with and hosted the quintessential amazon whose story already reads like a lofty wish. So, in this episode, she shared some unique parts of her life, her career journey, and also how she got her podcast to be syndicated on Trace FM (Kenya), a global radio station. Her podcast is the first syndicated podcast in Eastern Africa on radio — already with plans to also be syndicated on Trace FM (Ghana). Two words of inspiration from our richly insightful conversation was ”Keep doing!” And if this is not amazing and awesome, then I wonder what is. An amazing conversation with a humanist that goes by the sobriquet ”Angry Atheist”. In this episode, It wasn't a fight about if your supreme being exists; that was left to your doubts! It was about being a free thinker, breaking free from domesticated religious beliefs, and how to be fully human. This is aimed to bring you out of the stifling insularity of your existence. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/talk-with-todah/message
A lady came vulnerably to me about her same-sex attraction. She had initially reached out to me after seeing one of my comments about homosexuality on the internet, and she decided to come vulnerably. She had felt that way, as way back as possible and she finally explored the form of intimacy and expression in 2019, she identifies as being a Christian, and when she reached out, she told me ”I feel possessed and I feel demons are running within me.” To know what identity she has finally embraced and how she sees herself now, you need to listen to this episode. On this particular episode, she said, ”The world has made sexuality a huge part of our identity” and this is a big issue especially when we don't see people for whom they are and as humans but rather seeing them literally as a ”sex person” who chose to express themselves differently from ours. I'm honored to have her talk to me! And there is so much why in the ”why” I want you to listen........ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/talk-with-todah/message
