The killing of three ANC members in Knysna has raised concerns about political violence ahead of the local government elections. Western Cape Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Sizakhele Dyantyi and Provincial Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety Anroux Marais have visited the scenes of the killings, as police intensify their investigation and step up security in the town. A short while ago, KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Thami Ntuli revealed that at least 18 councillors have been assassinated across the province since the 2021 Local Government Election with Premier Ntuli adding that such killings cannot be treated merely as ordinary criminal incidents. The defense's biggest witness took the stand today — and then the defense rested. Dr. Phillip Resnick, a forensic psychiatrist who specializes in filicide, the rare and specific category of a parent killing their own child, testified by Zoom in the murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother accused of strangling her three children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan, with exercise bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. Clancy faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation. She's pleaded not guilty, and her defense, led by attorney Kevin Reddington, centers on severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.Resnick spent over three and a half hours evaluating Clancy in person about four months after the crime, plus another hour and a half with her parents. He said she was blunted and matter-of-fact while heavily medicated — and, notably, he pointed out the prosecution's own doctors didn't get to her until three years after the fact. No one, Resnick testified, found evidence she was lying or exaggerating; if anything, she minimized what she'd been through. His diagnosis: Bipolar II with severe depression, postpartum symptoms that got worse with each child, and on the day of the crime, postpartum psychosis — command hallucinations, a dreamlike disconnection from her own body. His bottom line: she couldn't conform her conduct to the law. She believed, he said, that she was doing right by her kids. On cross, prosecutors leaned hard on how statistically rare this is. Then the defense rested its case.Prosecutors are expected to argue Clancy understood the nature of her actions despite the defense's mental-health claims. After the killings, Clancy allegedly attempted to take her own life by jumping from a second-story window, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out of the home running errands at the time and has since relocated to Manhattan. Rob and Michele Reiner spent years trying to help the son who prosecutors now allege planned their murders. Nick Reiner co-wrote a film with his father about his own addiction struggles. His parents paid for treatment at a seventy-thousand-dollar-a-month facility. They kept him on their property in a guest house in Brentwood. A grand jury indictment unsealed on August 12 alleges he repaid all of it by concealing his purpose, waiting for his opportunity, and attacking them inside their bedroom. The lying-in-wait allegation is new — it was not part of the original charges filed in December 2025. It's a second special circumstance under California law, and it carries a specific legal standard: prosecutors must prove concealment, surveillance, surprise, and intent to kill. Nick had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder years before the killings. In 2020, a court placed him under a conservatorship for grave disability. His medication was reportedly changed in the weeks before December 14, and sources said the switch made him more erratic. The grand jury returned the indictment on July 20, and it sat sealed for over three weeks. It replaces the original case and sends the prosecution straight to pretrial, which is scheduled for September 15. The preliminary hearing Nick's defense had been expecting is now off the table. Political Killings Rise by Radio Islam

A 23-year-old alleged gangster is expected in the Boksburg Magistrates’ Court today, facing two counts of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm. He was arrested during a multidisciplinary operation in KwaDukathole Informal Settlement in Germiston, where police recovered two R5 rifles. The suspect allegedly took part in the killing of two Anti-Gang Unit members, Constables Tlomatsana and Sibeko, as well as two civilian women. Dr. Jennifer Tufts, the psychiatrist who treated Lindsay Clancy, spent today under cross-examination in the Duxbury, Massachusetts mother's murder trial — and defense attorney Kevin Reddington didn't let her off easy. Clancy, 34, is accused of strangling her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 7-month-old Callan — with exercise resistance bands inside the family's Summer Street home on January 24, 2023. She faces three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation, has pleaded not guilty, and is mounting an insanity defense built on claims of severe postpartum psychosis and psychiatric overmedication.Reddington pressed Tufts on the basics of suicidal-ideation screening, then pointed out something that should give anyone pause: no blood tests were ever run to check whether Clancy's prescribed medications were actually working. He also zeroed in on what he characterized as thin, inadequate responses to Clancy's own cries for help. Tufts testified she doesn't put much stock in genetic testing for medication selection — a position Reddington used to needle her about a postpartum-thyroid article she admitted she'd never read. She also confirmed she and Clancy had discussed a possible undiagnosed bipolar disorder, prompted by an extreme reaction to SSRIs, along with a partial hospitalization program that never happened. And despite everything, Tufts told the court she didn't believe involuntary hospitalization was warranted.Prosecutors maintain Clancy understood what she was doing despite the mental-health claims. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will pause non-urgent vehicle stops after two deadly shootings in less than a week, according to Maine Sen. Angus King's office. The defense says “other suspects.” Alex Murdaugh's own housekeeper of twenty years agrees there were other people in the picture — and her reading of it is the opposite of what the defense intends. Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson believes Alex had a Plan A that involved another person being at Moselle the night Maggie and Paul were killed. When that plan collapsed, she says, he carried it out himself and built a narrative around the boat crash families to explain what happened.Blanca's theory comes from two decades of watching Alex use other people as instruments. Curtis Eddie Smith cashed four hundred thirty-seven checks. Enablers kept the financial machine running. Alex moved money through other people's hands and used relationships as cover. He built deniability into everything. Blanca says the murders fit the pattern, not the exception the defense needs them to be. She confronts the third-party culprit theory directly and explains why, based on twenty years inside that household, the idea that someone else did this without Alex doesn't match the man she knew.Attorney Eric Bland brings the strategic overlay.
