Send us a textTop o' the trolling to ya! In this special Saint Patrick's Day edition of Jackalope Tales, Lisa and Charles raise a pint (of something strong) to two bands who dared to mess with Ireland's most self-serious frontman—Bono of U2. First, we dive into the legendary case of Negativland, the experimental sound collagists who poked the bear by releasing an album titled U2—complete with a bootlegged Casey Kasem meltdown—and found themselves buried in legal hell faster than you can say “cease and desist.” Then, we unravel the bizarre fate of The Midnight Suns, an upstart rock band who thought it'd be funny to stage an elaborate prank on Bono—only to end up facing unexpected consequences that not even The Edge could have predicted.Did these bands push the boundaries of parody, or did they simply learn the hard way that some Irish icons don't have a sense of humor? Pour yourself a Guinness (or something legally safer) and join us as we break down the wildest cases of Bono-provoked chaos.Support the showBecome a J-Lope and follow us on social media. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit zeteo.comTrump is once again trying to reassert himself as the law and order president.During his recent joint address to Congress, the president called for a mandatory death penalty for anyone who kills a police officer. This of course comes less than two months after Trump himself pardoned more than 1,500 Jan. 6 rioters, including over 300 who pleaded guilty to either assaulting or obstructing law enforcement. One of those law enforcement officers who was assaulted on Jan. 6 was former Capitol Police Sergeant Aquilino Gonell, who tells Mehdi that he “had to laugh” last week when Trump tried to claim he's on the side of law enforcement.“He is culpable of what led up to January six and the aftermath,” Gonell says to Mehdi. “He sat at the White House and as the events were happening, instead of calming the situation, he continued to tweet about it and make it more volatile for us on that day. And while he was watching it on TV, we were fighting for our lives trying to protect elected officials.”Sgt. Gonell tells Mehdi that he was assaulted by more than 40 rioters that day and had to undergo two surgeries as a result. When asked what his reaction was when Trump pardoned those rioters on his first day back in office, Gonell told Mehdi it was like a “stab in the heart.”“This is a consequence of people not believing that Donald Trump's gonna do what he says that he's gonna do,” Gonell tells Mehdi. “He pardoned these people, now he emboldened them, and instead of doing something positive with their lives, with their second chance, they decide to go back and harass the people who did the right thing on January 6th.”Gonell was specifically referring to an incident a few weeks ago, when he and his fellow former Capitol Police officers were harassed by the ex-Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio. Tarrio had previously been sentenced to over two decades in prison for his role in January 6th, but was ultimately pardoned by Trump. If you are a paid subscriber, watch the full interview to hear Gonell tell Mehdi what it was like to continue protecting the GOP lawmakers who helped incite January 6th, how Capitol Police officers view Trump and his actions from that day, and how Gonell has to interact with members of his own family who still support Trump.Free subscribers can watch the first five minutes of the interview. Joseph Habedank opens his heart about the journey from addiction to redemption in this candid and inspiring conversation. The acclaimed Southern Gospel artist shares how his struggle with prescription drug dependency—and subsequent recovery nearly twelve years ago—transformed his understanding of God's grace and erased the shame that once defined him.At the center of our discussion is Joseph's powerful song "No Shame," which perfectly captures the essence of Joy FM's upcoming spring fundraiser theme: "Made for More." The lyrics reflect his personal testimony: "I'm saved by the blood of the Lamb, I'm free, I've been born again, I'm forgiven, I'm a child of the King. There ain't no shame on me." Joseph reveals how a visit from gospel legend Russ Taff during rehabilitation changed everything when Taff told him, "God loved you when you were using drugs. He still loved you, but he's crazy about you now." This revelation helped Joseph grasp the depth of God's affection that sees beyond our failures. With refreshing authenticity, Joseph discusses the tension between professional success and personal humility. He credits his wife Lindsay with keeping him grounded, sharing a powerful story of how she confronted him after winning multiple awards to remind him what truly matters. "What I want more than anything," Joseph confesses, "is for people to say he was a good guy, a good man who had integrity and took the worst thing that ever happened to him and let God make it into the best thing." Though celebrated for his music, Joseph emphasizes that he's "not a struggling artist, but an artist who struggles"—facing the same challenges as everyone else.Want to support the ministry that brings you music with messages like Joseph's? Consider giving during Joy FM's spring fundraiser and help spread the good news that we're all made for more than our mistakes.

Drawing from biblical teachings, we explore Christ's role in marriage and the divine order He has established. The conversation concludes with a prayer of gratitude for His self-sacrificial love and an invitation to deepen our relationship with Him.

This week on Ring of Fire! Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson announced on Fox News this past weekend that he and his fellow Republicans in the House are aiming to push through a single bill that contains ALL of Donald Trump's legislative priorities by Memorial Day, instead of passing multiple separate bills. This seems like an unusual move for someone like Johnson, and that's because it isn't his idea at all – It all came from Trump who is demanding that Republicans do it this way. This is a stupid plan that is destined to fail. President Biden now has less than 2 weeks in office, and he's spent the past few days signing legislation and orders designed to help protect Americans from Donald Trump. One of the biggest achievements was the signing of legislation to increase Social Security payments to more than 3 million recipients, and that was followed by an order that forbids oil drilling along the coasts of the country. Trump ally Steve Bannon celebrated the anniversary of the Capitol Riot on Monday by proudly proclaiming “we almost pulled it off!” Bannon's comments make it clear that there is absolutely no remorse for what happened that day – including the deaths – and that they would gladly do it again if they ever felt the need. All that, and so much more, on this week's Ring of Fire Podcast!

More than 7,000 new books are released every day — but most of those writers won't make a living off their work. Author Michael Castleman joins host Krys Boyd to discuss three distinct eras of book publishing, from the first printing press to Amazon, and why today it's fairly easy to find yourself in print — but much harder to find an audience to read it. His book is “The Untold Story of Books: A Writer's History of Publishing.”
Mental Health activist, writer, and speaker Kate Speer authentically shares her mental health journey from feeling different as a child to being diagnosed with ADHD and later a misdiagnosed bipolar disorder. Feeling unsupported from such a young age by the education system due to limiting criteria for diagnosis as well as the stigmas surrounding mental illness, Kate experienced a myriad of symptoms.*Trigger Warning* : This episode discusses suicide and psychosis. These mentions are authentic to the storyteller. After experiencing 15 years of disabling mental illness, chronic psychotic breaks, enumerable psychiatric hospitalizations, and a suicide attempt, Kate was told by doctors that the only way she would survive was to live in a long-term, locked psychiatric ward. Kate, stubborn to her core and no stranger to defying the expectations of her care team, told them to go to hell. She refused to give up. She met with doctor after doctor, and even after being told that she needed residential care by all of them, she kept searching. In one last-ditch effort to not end up in a ward, she met with a trauma therapist known for his intense behavioral methodologies who told her that she was about to work the hardest she ever had in her life to overcome her patterns. Kate didn't think twice about it. She committed to the work and began the recovery of a lifetime. She worked relentlessly using disciplined exposure therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy to tackle her OCD, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, and PTSD. Day after day, Kate leaned into the discomfort of her fear and though terrified, she continued to do exactly what the doctor prescribed anyway.Despite everything Kate has faced, she is one of the strongest, kind, accepting humans we have ever known. Her journey with mental illness has helped her emphasize the importance of self-acceptance and contributes to her desire in creating a world where people can hold space for both pain and joy. One of our favorite parts of this conversation is how openly and radically she encourages embracing the messiness of life and rejecting the pressure to present a polished image, giving us an opportunity to share our collective thoughts on the negativity of social media. Now, nine years later, she is happy (ish!), married, and has transitioned into public mental health work after her five-year tenure as the CEO of The Dogist, where she scaled the company's audience to five million subscribers. She is currently working with Harvard to scale public health campaigns that help today's youth while finalizing her very first memoir. Her hope for the future is to use social media for good instead of the bottom line and scale academic-creator collaborations that reach young people online where they get their information. This is just the beginning of that work and though she is unsure of where exactly it will take her, one thing's for sure – even though her doctors were convinced that she would only survive in a locked ward, she proved them spectacularly wrong. If you have ever struggled with mental health, this conversation contains the most madly inspiring, radically humbling, and honest message for you at this time: Healing is absolutely possible, but it won't be perfect and it will happen little by little. Given that 1 out of 6 Americans are taking some sort of psychiatric drug, it's probably time to let go of the stigma surrounding mental illness. And it might also be a good time to question whether giving people drugs is always the best go-to solution for mental health. Dr. Ellen Vora, a functional medicine practitioner and holistic psychiatrist, is one of the leaders of a movement that aims to treat the whole person, and to stop using drugs as a first resort. On this episode of Women of Impact with Lisa Bilyeu, Ellen Vora discusses how to find the real source of your suffering, what to do if you are too much of a people pleaser, the connection between gut health and brain health, and ways to encourage yourself to make better lifestyle choices.
