Rod is a Professor in the School of Environment and the Australian Rivers Institute at Griffith University, Queensland. He studies resilience in the world's major coastal ecosystems such as coral reefs and wetlands. With his students and colleagues he simplifies complex systems to reveal how humans can enhance rather than inhibit resilience. Victoria a Year 6 student at St Hilda's School has been working with Griffith University staff re iPad uses. Countertenor Hartley Newnham, together with Andrea von Ramm, co-founded the early music group La Romanesca in Melbourne. As a member of the Ensemble of the Fourteenth Century, he recorded a vast anthology of medieval French and Italian music. Hartley travels through 1,000 years of music and plays a piece from the end of the 20th century and sings a lullaby from the 16th century opera by Claudio Monteverdi finishing with an 18th century Beethoven sonata Opus 109. St Hilda's School on the Gold Coast has launched Australia's first open-learning K-12 institute utilising the renowned Apple iTunes U site. Head of School Mr Peter Crawley said the St Hilda's had accepted Apple's invitation to participate as an early adopting K-12 school, in using the iTunesU site. Katie Wilson a Year 12 student is Head Boarder at St Hilda's School and lives on a cattle and pecan nut property near Bangalow in Northern New South Wales. Having lived rurally her whole life, she developed an interest in the many facets of agriculture; growing up riding motorbikes, helping her dad out on the farm and competing in many local cattle shows in her region from a young age. Katie talks about lessons she has learned working with cattle. Professor Jean-Marc Hero is a vertebrate ecologist with research expertise in conservation biology of amphibians, biodiversity assessment and monitoring, and conservation physiology. He is Deputy Director of Griffith University's Environmental Futures Research Centre and leads a team focusing on causes of global amphibian declines (disease, habitat loss and pollution), amphibian adaptation and response to climate change, and sustainability indicators for terrestrial ecosystems. He is also an active member of the Australian Society of Herpetologists, and Secretary General for the World Congress of Herpetology. Professor Hero presents a lively and personal account of the importance of amphibians to humans. Starting with our affinity with nature as children, we metamorphose, disappear into adulthood, and lose touch with biodiversity until we return to it during our holidays. Professor Hero explains the value of frogs to natural ecosystems and humans. He then describes the current global amphibian declines, what are the primary causes (habitat loss, disease and climate change) and what we need to do about it. He leaves us with a clear warning "Save the Frogs and We Save Ourselves". Working within the Communications and Stakeholder engagement team on the Gold Coast light rail project, Catherine leads on the Schools and Education Program -- Love Learning. In an Australian first, the Gold Coast light rail D&CJV has partnered with Gold Coast teachers and students to develop an educational episodes that uses the city-changing light rail system and its construction as a learning tool to demonstrate science functioning in practical situations Elloise has taken part in Light Rail's creation of curriculum for Years 2-7 to explain the sciences surrounding the infrastructure development. At 15, Georgia moved from the Gold Coast to Melbourne to dance with the Australian Ballet School. But it was a recent trip to the US that inspired her to establish her own studio. "I visited a few major dance studios there, including Steps in New York and a few others in LA," she said. "I was super inspired by the studios and the way they run classes which is different to Australia. Georgia talks about opening her own studio, how she hopes to inspire young dancers to believe in themselves. Andrew is currently General Manager for 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held on the Gold Coast. Caitlin a Year 11 student at St Hilda's School is a singer and songwriter and describers her voice as 'an alternative sound' She began singing at a young age and music and song have become a huge part of Caitlin's life. Caitlin tells us about her journey with music and sings Dire Strait's Romeo and Juliet. Dr Hal Rice obtained his Medical Degree at the University of Queensland in 1992 and then completed his Internship and Residency at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. Hal undertook specialist training in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital before doing an Advanced Specialist Fellowship in Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology at the world famous Mt Sinai Medical Center in New York City in 2001 and 2002. Dr Rice talks about the use of state of the art technology to provide minimally invasive endovascular treatment of patients with life threatening brain aneurysms and acute stroke. Emma played the 2nd movement from Sonata No.5 in C K14 by Mozart on the flute.
