In this episode, Manny and I talk about what is a "Trophy"? in this case, we keep the conversation about trophy whitetails. We start off discussing what the various scoring clubs consider a trophy score is, such as B&C, P&Y, and SCI. We all know that a trophy can maean many things to many different hunters, and I think we can all agree that it is a matter of perspective. We talk about how comercialized hunting has changed the game and in turn has changed the hunting stories of today. For me yes, score may set the perameters that classify what a tropy is, but I believe it is the story behind the harvest that is the true trophy. Welcome to a special edition of a "not" So TX Outdoors episode, as this was recorded in Colorado during my recent archery elk hunt. I was joined by Orlando and Sixto two buddies of mine from the Salty Yak Pack. They were crazy enough to come on this adventure with me. We do a quick day of arrival recording, to get our thoughts and excitment on record, then we record about every other day or so in the backcountry to recap the days events as they unfolded. This was truly the most epic elk hunt I have ever been a part of, we had lots of aciton and multiple oportunities. In this episode we have two listeners of the podcast, Renee and Ramon, who recently went on a TX public land hunt here in deep South Texas. They each reached out to Manny to help them scout the area for places to setup. I myself also recently went on a TX public land hunt on the opposite side of the state. Theses hunts were archery hunts, Renee and Ramon's primary target game was Nilgai and mine was Mule deer. So, we thought we would do a show recapping our hunts, discussing lessons learned, and tips for others going on these TX public land hunts. A special 75th Episode, deserves a special guest! I sat down with me grandmother, Juanita, a while back to get her story of how it once was and how our family got its start as a hunting family. Although not a hunter herself, was raised on game meat, learned how to cook it and has been around it all her life. She shares an interesting family history describing how our Ancestors hunted for necessity and then later evolved into the strong Escobar family tradition it is today. I am also joined by my cousins, Noe, Adrian, and Andrew who are also hunters and they ask their questions, as well. A little different episode, but I think it's interesting to hear how it once was and how I would assume several families have a similar history. I wanted to get her story recorded as I believe it's important to learn about our family's heritage and legacy from our elders. If you are blessed to have grandparents in your life, make it a point to sit down with them and ask them share their story. Happy Holidays! In this Episode, we recap my recent Texas Public Land hunt along with guest and fellow outdoorsman, Daniel Guillette who also hunted a different National Wildlife Refuge down here in deep South Texas. Those who follow me on Social Media, know I shot a Nilgai Bull on this hunt, and I tell the story of how it all went down. These are hunts that anyone can draw and hopefully we can shorten the learning curve for someone who draws an NWR hunt in the future. Including why we bow hunt, stand setups, string jump, scent control, bows, broad heads and other bow hunting tips and tactics. In this Episode we are back with another great collaboration with Cary Beason and the Salty Yak Podcast. This time we are talking Texas Public Land Hunting and Drawn Hunts. It's that time of year when TPWD opens up applications for a variety of Texas Drawn Hunts all across the State. We talk about our top picks and why. We talk about the variety of opportunities and share some of our experiences with certain hunts. We each share some success stories including my first Nilgai bull on Public Land and taken with a shotgun slug. Cary has been doing the TX drawn hunts for over 20 years so he has wealth of knowledge about the system and even though Texas is 98+% private land, there is still a lot of opportunity for anyone to take advantage of the Public Hunts available in Texas.
