Alaskan Klee Kai Move to Miscellaneous Host Laura Reeves is joined by Chelsea Watson for a discussion of the Alaskan Klee Kai moving to Miscellaneous this summer. [caption id="attachment_14178" align="alignleft" width="370"] Versatile, energetic and aloof, Alaskan Klee Kai join Miscellaneous.[/caption] According to Watson, the Klee Kai was developed in Alaska in the 1970s by one woman who wanted to create a “miniature Husky.” The breed was developed using Alaskan Huskies, with additions of Siberian Husky, American Eskimo Dog and Schipperke. The Klee Kai is 12-17 inches tall, with a variety of colors and coats available. Bred as a companion dog, it should still move with the smooth, effortless carriage of its working forbears, Watson noted. The Klee Kai was accepted into AKC's FSS (Foundation Stock Service) program in 2020. An active, even busy, breed, Klee Kai are aloof and reserved with strangers, but excel in agility and other performance events, Watson said. “They are very high energy breed,” Watson said. “They are not couch potatoes. They also are a very versatile breed. You want to go hiking for three hours every day? They can do it. Bike for five hours or five miles a day, probably 5 hours too, they can do it. Kayaking and paddle boarding with them. They could do weight pull. The tricky part is you got to have patience because they're still gonna do a quid pro quo. What's in it for me? The Husky piece is strong in them, (but) I would say they are more trainable than Huskies. Patience, it just requires a lot of patience. It's like training your cat.” The following links offer additional information about the breed. Sue Stockdale speaks to adventurer, author, and deep thinker Ed Ley-Wilson. Ed shares insights from his life exploring both the outdoors and the mind. From kayaking the rugged west coast of Scotland to reflecting on resilience, solitude, and the power of slowing down, Ed reveals how adventure - whether on land, sea, or within ourselves shapes our engagement with the world. About Ed Ley-WilsonEd has over thirty years of working and engaging with business, community, educational, social and environmental issues throughout the Highlands of Scotland. He has undertaken long self-supported kayaking journeys in Norway and Patagonia and has run 1200 miles of the Great Wall of China (1988) and the 2000 mile length of the Himalayas (1990). Ed is no stranger to hardship and during his 2022 kayaking journey up the west coast of Scotland he faced some of the worst weather in that region for years. He also has two books to his name, ‘The Himalayan Shuffle' and ‘Kayaking the Sea Roads.Key Quotes"Adventure isn't just about the physical challenge; it's about how we engage with the world around us and what we learn from it.""Solitude teaches you resilience in a way nothing else can - you have to sit with your thoughts and find your own way through them.""Whether on the sea or in life, you can't always control what happens, but you can control how you respond to it.""The lessons I learned from John Ridgway weren't just about survival; they were about self-reliance, discipline, and understanding your own limits.""Slowing down and disconnecting from the noise of the modern world is one of the greatest gifts adventure can offer.""It's not a weakness to not know stuff. It's a strength actually".Chapters01:57 Early Adventures and Influences03:33 Lessons from the Wild04:31 The Philosophy of Adventure05:42 Kayaking the Sea Roads10:07 Reflections on Highland Communities16:27 The Importance of Time and Space21:30 Embracing Uncertainty and Curiosity23:06 The Role of Yoga in Kayaking25:54 The Journey of Self-Discovery35:39 Balancing Life and Future PlansConnect with Access to Inspiration: Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | LinkedIn | Read our Impact Report and if you would like to support us then Buy Me A CoffeeProducer: Sue Stockdale Sound Editor: Matias De Ezcurra Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/access-to-inspiration--4156820/support.
Colorado Outdoors - the Podcast for Colorado Parks and Wildlife
Colorado Parks and Wildlife owns and operates the largest inventory of dams in the state of Colorado. The water impounded is used for purposes such as downstream irrigation, fisheries management and aquatic operations, and a multitude of recreational activities including fishing, boating and swimming.CPW manages more than 120 dams across the state and has spent more than $126 million in the last decade for dam safety related work. All of this work helps keep downstream communities safe while providing recreational opportunities in Colorado's reservoirs and on tailwater fisheries. Without these dams creating reservoirs, the state would have significantly less water-based recreation opportunities, as there are only 11 natural lakes in Colorado greater than 50 surface acres. In this episode of the Colorado Outdoors Podcast, we chat with Dam Safety Program Manager and Chief Dam Safety Engineer Eric Eisinger as well as Capital Program Manager Margaret Taylor about what it takes to monitor and manage Colorado's inventory of dams.Come for the great information, stay for the beaver jokes.

It’s the Passover holiday period and hopefully many people, Israelis and visitors, will be going up to the north of Israel. For the first time since the war started. And after a year and a half the kayaking is back in operation on the mighty Jordan River. Chen Malka of Kfar Blum Kayak told reporter Arieh O’Sullivan that it’s a not-to-miss stop in a visit to the north. She said returning to the river in kayaks was also a symbol of the north coming back to life. (photo: Yossi Aloni) See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week we are chatting with ocean adventurer and incredible speaker Cyril Derreumaux!! Cyril just wrapped up his grand adventure of solo kayaking across the Atlantic Ocean. 71 days of isolation, endurance and self reliance! Through this experience he truly got the opportunity to connect with the ocean spiritually while embracing the routine of the day to day. This episode is all about this adventure and is one of my favorite conversations I've had for the podcast! We talk about the scariest moment of his kayak when he encountered a giant swordfish right next to his boat, what one learns about the world when they feel so completely insignificant on the ocean, and how he has felt since returning to land! If you enjoyed Cyril on the show be sure to check out the links below to see his public speaking. He truly is incredible and would be a great person to bring into your business or school! #154 - Imagine plunging down a 35-foot waterfall strapped inside a kayak, or trying to compose a stunning piano piece that captures the serenity of nature. These are just fragments of Jon Cheney's extraordinary journey as a creator, adventurer, entrepreneur, and man of faith. From his early years in a musical household where his parents prioritized owning a grand piano before even having proper furniture, to his teenage years in Paraguay learning Spanish, Jon's life has been defined by embracing new challenges. His remarkable ability to master languages – including Mandarin Chinese during his church mission – parallels his approach to music composition, where he sees patterns and structures that most miss. The heart of our conversation explores Jon's passion for whitewater kayaking and the profound life lessons it's taught him. "You're going to flip over in life," Jon explains with the wisdom of someone who's faced Class 5 rapids and business setbacks alike. "But when you've learned that you can flip over and then get back up and be okay, then the world really opens up." This philosophy has guided him through entrepreneurial ventures, creative pursuits, and personal challenges. What makes Jon's perspective particularly refreshing is his recent epiphany about pursuing multiple passions. After years of praying for divine guidance on which path to choose – music, adventure, business, or writing – he found peace in Elder Uchtdorf's simple wisdom: "It mattereth not, only be faithful." This liberating principle has energized Jon to embrace all facets of his creative spirit rather than waiting for permission to begin.Whether you're considering your own adventure into whitewater kayaking, struggling to choose between multiple passions, or simply seeking inspiration from someone who's mastered the art of getting back up after life flips you over, Jon's story will leave you both entertained and equipped with a new perspective on life's rapids. Follow Jon on Instagram @cheneypiano or on his website joncheney.com to continue following his journey of creation and adventure!Want to be a guest on Journey with Jake? She operates a cafe in West Georgia with a motto of "serving coffee with kindness." We could all use that in our world today. Rewind back to what made her focus on loving people out of dark times, this business owner talks about growing up dirt poor with a mom who made life magical with outdoors adventures...leaving everything to hike the Appalachian Trail...making plans to kill herself but why she didn't do it...and the healing power of kayaking. Now, she's opening up a first-of-its-kind venture in the Chattahoochee Valley. (3:18) The owner of The Brick and Mortar Cafe in Columbus GA first talks about why she left her 3 jobs and sold all her stuff, a decade ago, to set out to hike the AT from Georgia to Maine - and then why she had to stop after nearly 700 miles. The roots of it were depression and proving something to herself and the power to keep moving. And in Maine, she got a job managing a coffee shop that inspired her to open up her own! (10:00) The mission of her coffee shop in "Old Town" is to love people where they are, put a smile on customers' faces. That comes from the dark place of Heather being suicidal, years ago, and one final phone call stopped her. Brick & Mortar may not be faith-based, but they want to touch people's lives. A small part of that is writing uplifting messages on their coffee cups. Heather also hopes she can inspire/mentor other female entrepreneurs who, like her, may have though these dreams are not achievable. Growing up as a people pleaser, she's also learning to take care of herself. She also talks about how her life changed from losing her mom recently, after being her caregiver, and how the cafe community she build supported her so much. (24:45) The next business for her is a collaboration with the owner of local italian restaurant Treviolis called "The Collegiate Outpost" inside Columbus Technical College, a new concept for this part of GA. it's not just a place for coffee, sandwiches, pastries, pasta but also designed with a culinary internship program where students can learn skills and get future jobs at area restaurants, cafes. (27:37) Not owning a TV for the last few decades, Heather loves the outdoors - getting on the water and in the woods for decompression, stress relief, meditation. And Heather gets emotional talking about how her mom showed them how powerful and exciting it is to be out in nature. She also shares some wisdom she's learned from the valleys and mountaintops...her evolving from a judgmental young Christian to a person focused on love instead of legalism...plus some of her favorite coffee drinks. Boston is a city shaped by water. From its earliest Indigenous inhabitants, to its dramatic role in the American Revolution, the city's history is written in its harbours, rivers, and shorelines. But Boston's connection to the water isn't just about the past—it's alive and thriving today. Join host Portia Jones and producer Luke as they explore Boston's famous harbour and its transformation from a strategic trading port to a thriving waterfront destination. Whale tails break the surface in the waters of Stellwagen Bank, an ocean sanctuary teeming with marine life. Kayaks glide past the city skyline, offering a fresh perspective on familiar landmarks. Amphibious vehicles splash into the Charles River on a journey that blurs the line between road and water. From the buzzing harbour to Boston's best waterfront activities, we'll take you beyond the usual sights and into the heart of Boston's relationship with the sea. Along the way, you'll hear from locals who bring these waters to life through conservation, adventure, or the stories of Boston's past Thanks to Meet Boston and TTM World for supporting and collaborating with the Travel Goals podcast. Colorado Outdoors - the Podcast for Colorado Parks and Wildlife
In April 2024, Colorado's 2024-25 Long Appropriations Bill opened the door for a new Colorado Parks and Wildlife statewide K-9 program. The new statewide K-9 program will have a lead K-9 Supervisor and five K-9 handlers assigned to the new statewide unit. This comes on the heels of the success of CPW's previous pilot program in which CPW utilized three dogs.K-9 officers aid CPW wildlife managers in detecting the presence of wildlife, whether that's checking hunters or even identifying endangered species in the field. Along with assisting in wildlife law enforcement cases, dogs can also be used in black bear management.CPW recently promoted former District Wildlife Manager Ian Petkash, who handles K-9 Samson, to the K-9 Unit Supervisor position. Petkash joins the podcast to let us know plans for expanding the K-9 program and provide a better understanding of how CPW's wildlife officers utilize dogs in the field and what it takes to build the program.
Chris and Lauren discuss four weird news stories: the Old Testament-esque tale of a kayaker being spit out by a whale, smelly flowers in Australia, an ambitious ocean voyage that departed from Philly and a weird Walmart car wash project.

In episode 493 of the Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Podcast, I'm talking with Haley Stuart, filmmaker, environmentalist, and whitewater instructor. Haley joins us to discuss her work protecting rivers, collaborating with communities across the Americas, and raising awareness about mega hydroelectric impacts. Her journey inspires meaningful action for lasting environmental change. Show Notes What if I told you that rivers could teach us more about life than a self-help book ever could? What Happened: When Haley Stewart first dipped her paddle into a river, she wasn't chasing adrenaline—she was running headfirst into her fears. Growing up in suburban New York, she didn't even know kayaking was a sport. It wasn't until she attended a kayaking-focused high school (yes, those exist!) that she realized rivers weren't just a setting for adventures—they were life itself, rushing and relentless, filled with twists, turns, and lessons. At first, the sport terrified her. But over time, the pull of the water and the tight-knit community of paddlers won her over. What started as a hesitant curiosity turned into an unshakable passion. Traveling the world, Haley discovered the hard truth: many of the rivers she loved were under threat—from dams, mining, and neglect. She couldn't sit by and watch them disappear. That's when everything changed. She met indigenous communities who lived alongside these rivers, fighting daily battles to protect what had sustained them for generations. Haley realized something profound: saving rivers wasn't just about ecology—it was about people, too. And through her work, she's helping amplify their voices, blending storytelling, conservation, and sheer grit to make an impact. Principle: The heart of Haley's story? Real change starts when we listen. Listen to the rivers, the people who live near them, and the truth about what's really happening in the world's wildest places. Many of us dream of adventure, but few think about what happens when those landscapes are lost. It's not enough to explore the outdoors—we need to protect it. Transition: Too often, we underestimate the power of our choices—what we support, what we fight for, or even where we decide to paddle. We think, "Someone else will handle it," or "What difference can I make?" But here's the truth: you matter more than you think. Haley's work reminds us that our adventures and the decisions we make along the way can transform the fate of entire ecosystems and the communities they sustain. That's Why: That's why this week's episode of the Outdoor Adventure Lifestyle Podcast is a must-listen. Haley's journey from nervous kayaker to river conservationist will inspire you to think differently about the waterways we all rely on—and how you can play a role in preserving them. Call to Action: Are you ready to discover the adventure, responsibility, and heart that comes with loving rivers? Tune in to hear Haley's story. Don't just explore the outdoors—help protect it for the next generation. Amazonian Rivers Initiative Rios to Rivers Tuichi River Paddle Tribal Waters & Kayakimün

Sarah is crushing it and we celebrate what a difference a year can make. We hear why she insisted on naming all of her cats "Sam" sort of like George Foreman naming all of his kids George. We learn how the originator of the high five was discriminated against and ended up losing his job for being gay. Susie describes the Olympic moment when Greg Louganis hit his head on the diving board and how it forced him to make the ethical decision on whether to disclose his HIV+ diagnosis. We discuss an article in the New Yorker by John Lahr about what it was like to have the cowardly lion (Bert Lahr) from the Wizard oz Oz as his dad, the challenge of being a cultural icon, and how some people can be outgoing and gregarious in public and sullen and despondent in private. A man in England got three years of jail time for selling firesticks so people could illegally watch Premier League soccer (football). Susie shares the origins of the photo finish, how a horse once won because of a thread of saliva, the limits of accuracy, and how it relates to the Hawkeye system in tennis that determines whether a ball is in or out of bounds. We learn about a kayaker who had to have his leg amputated after getting it caught between two boulders, but we have some questions...Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors:Become the best version of yourself and get 15% off Ned products with code BRAINCANDY at https://helloned.com/BRAINCANDYGet 15% off LolaVie with the code BRAIN15 at https://www.lolavie.com/BRAIN15 #lolaviepodVisit https://www.carawayhome.com/BRAINCANDY to take advantage of this limited-time offer for up to 20% off your next purchase.Get 25% off your first month for a limited time at https://ritual.com/BRAINCANDYSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
