In episode 19 of the M3 Bearcast, I discuss how to love yourself and find happiness through recognizing how our identity is based on what we think others think about us. Many of our self-esteem problems come from trying to compete with others when in reality the path to happiness comes from contributing to others. I also discuss ghosting in the modern age of dating and how the stories we tell about why they don't like us can set us up for failure or success in our next dating experience. And I discuss the concept of faith deconstruction and the role doubt can play in molding our spiritual views. In episode 17 of the M3 Bearcast, I talk about problems plaguing intelligent, creative, and sensitive people. Many creatives have difficulties feeling like their work meets their standards. It's been coined the imposter syndrome, but I argue that it's not a disorder in the classic sense. Everyone suffers from it, especially those pressured to rise to the top of their fields. Another significant issue is searching for meaning in work, life, and spirituality. I argue that the meaning isn't something you find. It is something you create. Lack of meaning is the most significant contribution to mental health problems of creative people and should be prioritized as much as the work itself. In episode 16 of the M3 Bearcast I talk about the costs associated with positive personality traits and why we have to embrace the downsides of our deepest gifts. I talk about how pain helps give us meaning in life and how we can come to associate the struggle with success. I talk about how the cost of being a good listener may be that you give up on what you were going to say. This is my first episode of the podcast flying solo, but I plan on having more guests in the future. If you would like to support M3 participate in our Amazon affiliate program by purchasing The Sweet Spot https://amzn.to/3sFEIdO and you can support us directly by becoming a Patron at https://www.patreon.com/malemediamind Subscribe to Male Media Mind on social media. In the 15th episode of the M3 Bearcast I speak with Jeffery Roman and Xavier Spann about the book The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement. We have had many discussions of narcissism on M3 Before, but in this discussion, we tackle the reasons why narcissism has been such a hot topic. The authors of this book talk about how the culture shifted towards individualism and away from collectivism. We discuss the role of consumerism in bolstering narcissistic personality traits. And we end by trying to see what lessons we can learn from narcissistsIf you would like to support M3 participate in our Amazon affiliate program by purchasing The Narcissism Epidemic https://amzn.to/3sFEIdOSubscribe to Male Media Mind on social media. In the 14th episode of the M3 Bearcast, I speak with Kostner Guyton about critical thinking, vaccine hesitancy, critical race theory, forgiveness vs acceptance, and how critical thinking can be encouraged. His background in science education gives him a wealth of experience to draw from to talk about how to walk a think line between making complex information accessible without talking down to people who hold misinformed beliefs. In the 13th episode of the M3 Bearcast I speak with Xavier Spann and Jeffery Roman about what it means to forgive and how we do it. The two of them bring a great deal of experience working as mental health professionals and in their personal lives. I'm hoping that this discussion can help anyone who is dealing with resentment and considering forgiveness as a way of dealing with it. If you can't forgive someone I hope this episode gives you perspective as to why that is and why you don't have to feel guilty about it. In the eleventh episode of the M3 Bearcast, a conversation about dating multiple people spawns many other topics about what it means to date. Do you allow someone to try to buy your affection with material things? If you are dating someone who is seeing other people does that make you feel like you're in competition with those other people? All of these questions come up as I try to explain my philosophy of dating. Jeffery Roman and Woodrow Thompson help me hash out these issues and a lot more in this episode. The issue of Boundaries comes up quite a bit and I would like you to read Boundaries When to Say Yes, How to Say No To Take Control of Your Life https://amzn.to/3w4q7Jr also check out The Velvet Rage: Overcoming the Pain of Growing Up Gay in a Straight Man's World https://amzn.to/3vL0ldK
In the tenth episode of the M3 Bearcast, I speak with Jeffery Roman and EJ Flavors about the power music has to evoke memories and put us into another mindset. We talk about our early influences and how they shaped our personalities over the years. Have you ever had a song's meaning changed for you over time? Why did the meaning of the song changed for you? In the 9th episode of the M3 Bearcast, I speak with Xavier Spann, who is a mental health professional, about the book The Velvet Rage by Alan Downs. The book is an exploration of the shame that gay men hold from their sexual development and how it can manifest in destructive behavior in adulthood. It's one of the first books I've read that explores the quick and dirty hookup and cruising culture that gay men have participated in and why it might be at the core of unstable relationships. not to mention that gay men have some of the high est rates of suicide than their straight peers. In the 8th episode of the M3 Bearcast, I speak with Sharon Lowery about issues facing parents, her experience being a social worker, and the state of voting rights in 2021. Often times those who help other people are forgotten when it comes time to talk about mental health and even mental health professionals need help from time to time. Just because it is a struggle doesn't mean you shouldn't hope for better days. That is true for your personal life and for our political future. In the seventh episode of the M3 Bearcast, I speak with Kirklan Hawes of XL Tribe about how many big men have struggled to express themselves in their clothing because of the restrictive nature of retail for large men. We talk about how fashion is just an external manifestation of being your authentic self and how he found his calling in talking to large men who were dissatisfied with the state of clothing for big men. We also discussed the post that drew Kirk to speak with me about a man who felt traumatized by some of his encounters in the gay community when trying to meet people. In the sixth episode of the M3 Bearcast I speak with Terrard Robinson about his podcast, the root meanings of words, and how communication can be a spiritual endevor even in terms of politics, race, and social issues. Our conversation went down in a host of different directions but it always came back to believing in the spiritual aspects of symbolic meaning. In the fifth episode of the M3 Bearcast, I speak with Lonnie Richardson about his self-love journey. Lonnie is a former contributor to M3 and an old friend. We've often argued about political issues when we were on opposite sides of an issue, but over time he's taught me to respect my friend's opinions even when I deeply disagree and believe those opinions to be harmful. He passionately defends his boundaries and rarely puts up with any violation of them. I realize now that his integrity may be why we butted heads so much and that I violated his boundaries in ways that I shouldn't have. He's documented his mental health journey on social media and he's allowed me to publish this candid conversation about self-love and relationships. In the fourth episode of the M3 Bearcast, I speak with Ej Flavors and Jeffery Romam about Ej's near-death experience at the start of 2021. He talks about how he felt isolated in the hospital as he recovered and not being able to have visitors because of covid restrictions. His dance with death affected all the people in his life, close and at a distance, most of that time he was unaware of how his life affected so many people. He talks about his positive addiction to the gym, and how at a low point in his life it turned dangerous. Working out is his way of coping with stress and recognizing that taking it to an extreme nearly cost him his life. My conversation with Twan Wall aka Bergo Husky was an unexpected treat that came out of him promoting his latest music projects. His story is a testament to the principle of following your bliss and rest will follow. He's taken his love of music and made something incredibly unusual in popular music. A rapper who is part of the LGBT community who isn't a "gay rapper". We talked about his struggle with PTSD as a former Iraq War veteran, homelessness, and how following his passion has given him a mission to put all the people in his life who have helped him into his creative projects. Welcome to the M3 Behr cast. My name is Malcolm Travers, male media. Mine is a grassroots organization dedicated to uplifting and unifying the black bear community through dialogue, insight, creativity, and knowledge. And for the past eight years now, I've been doing blogs, live streams and was posting on social media. And several times I've been asked to do a podcast and we've done a few in the past on entertainment topics, such as the walking dead and. The real Housewives of Atlanta, and you've also done an M three bare cast, but this is a relaunch. And in episode two, I'm going to be talking to David Volin, who is one of my favorite people because he brings out some of the better arguments in myself and the way that we've been recording it has made it more palatable for a podcast , I'm trying to make these as easy to produce as possible while at the same time, respecting your time and attention, realizing that, you know, giving up an hour of your day to listen to us talk means that we're going to try to bring you as much value as we can.And with that in mind, I also have some special parts for you. If you make it to the end of this podcast, I'm going to give you a sneak peek into the MP3 live broadcast. So after we go off the air, Oftentimes me and my friends will talk and I've asked their permission to record some of those conversations Sit back, relax, listen to David and I wax philosophical about art. And genres and just get nerdy as fuck. I hope you enjoy catching the next episode.
In the inaugural episode of the M3 bearcast. I speak with my friend Mark O Estes about the Derek Chauvin trial and the verdict. We also continued a conversation about cancel culture and what that definition really means. And then we discuss a video about intelligence and loneliness. We ask if people have rich inner lives, are they truly lonely?
