I love a good quiz! But not the kind you find in the back of a magazine — the kind that gives you real clarity about your next move as a nonprofit leader. When I was running my first nonprofit, I spent years hustling for growth in all the wrong places. I was chasing grants, pulling off big events, and working myself to the bone — but no matter how hard I tried, it always felt like we were running in circles. Everything changed the moment I discovered our “sweet spot.” For us, it was diversifying revenue by monetizing our training program, and that single shift unlocked the growth and stability I'd been chasing. That's why I recorded this episode for you.Inside, I'll walk you through the four untapped opportunities that can unlock real momentum for your nonprofit. We'll talk about how to activate your board as growth partners, why diversifying your revenue brings freedom, the role of modern storytelling in capturing donor attention, and the mindset shift that transforms leaders into confident nonprofit CEOs.If you've ever wondered why you're working harder than ever but not seeing the growth you hoped for, this conversation will give you the clarity you need — and the courage to focus on what matters most.

Welcome back to The Brand Is You Podcast! In today's episode, we're talking about one of the most common struggles entrepreneurs face: finding the balance between fun and inspiration in your content and the strategy that actually grows your business. Robyn unpacks why leaning too far in either direction—posting only when you feel inspired or overloading on rigid strategy—leaves you stuck, uninspired, or burnt out. And most importantly, she shares how to merge the two so your content feels magnetic and moves your business forward. If you've ever wondered why your posts aren't converting, why showing up feels like a chore, or how to create content that's both aligned and effective, this episode is for you. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE: ✔️ Why posting “just for fun” creates connection but rarely sales ✔️ How too much strategy can kill your inspiration (and how to fix it) ✔️ The simple two-question filter to know if a post is worth publishing ✔️ The 70/30 rule for balancing strategy with spontaneity ✔️ Creative ways to make strategy feel fun, not restrictive ✔️ Why the sweet spot between inspiration and strategy is where growth happens RESOURCES & NEXT STEPS:

Content warning: since Spread Me is erotic horror, this episode has an explicit tag. I wrote it to have fun because I have written a lot of books that were not fun to write... -Sarah Gailey In this episode, we welcome Hugo winning author Sarah Gailey, author of Spread Me, as we explore the wild world of erotic horror. Sarah shares their journey of writing a novel that takes inspiration from John Carpenter's classic film, The Thing, blending horror and erotica and humor. We dive into the creative process behind Spread Me, discussing the unique premise of a research crew encountering a specimen with prurient interests, and how the protagonist's unusual attraction to viruses plays into the narrative. (viruses!) Sarah candidly reflects on the challenges of writing explicit content and the journey of finding the perfect title that captures the essence of their work. And we get Sarah's meticulous approach to outlining and how specificity in description enhances storytelling. Then we fight book bans! It's a magical time. Tickets are selling fast at jillherman.com/beyou Tune in this week as Jill gets real about the first time in nearly five years that she didn't show up for an episode and why it actually felt completely okay and guilt-free! From the unexpected loss of her family dog Lola, to house issues, and her dad's terminal cancer leading to hospice, life truly demanded her attention and bandwidth, and she shares how allowing herself to pause gave her some clarity, space, and perspective. She also opens up about the chaos behind the scenes of launching her upcoming Be YOU live event, including website struggles with a contractor who locked her out and how she stayed grounded even while everything seemed to go sideways! Beyond the challenges, Jill reflects on the power of feeling your emotions fully while staying detached from the outcome, allowing frustration and anger to move through you instead of being suppressed. She shares how surrendering to what is allowed her to maintain confidence, trust the process, and step into her role as the host of a powerful, transformative event for women. Listeners will also get a behind-the-scenes look at the Be YOU live event on October 25th, which will of course mark the 300th episode of the show, truly a rare milestone in podcasting. Jill breaks down the tiered ticket pricing, VIP sellouts, discounted hotel rooms, and the opportunity to connect with other women from across the U.S. and Canada before the event, and she also highlights what attendees can expect, including a space for reclamation, reconnection, celebration, and authentic self-expression without religious overtones or forced activities. This episode of the podcast is all about showing up for yourself even when life is messy, holding space for others while trusting your own power, and embracing the art of the “both/and conversation” - feeling deeply while surrendering to what is. Tune in to hear the story behind the ups and downs of launching this upcoming event and the lessons that it's teaching Jill! In this week's episode of the podcast, we dive deep into the tricky tightrope walk of balancing structure and flexibility at home—because let's be honest, parenting (and homeschooling) neurodivergent kids isn't for the faint of heart! This episode is your breathe-and-hit-reset permission slip. Here's a peek at what we covered: Structure is Comforting… Until It Isn't Structure helps our kids (and us!) feel safe. Predictable routines can seriously reduce anxiety, especially for those with executive functioning challenges, ADHD, autism, or sensory processing issues. But too much rigidity? It can spark rebellion, burnout, and meltdowns—especially with creative, passionate, gifted kids. What Does Flexibility Really Mean? Flexibility doesn't mean winging it! It means responsive teaching—letting your child's needs, interests, and even energy levels guide your day. I share my own family's rhythm, from color-coded calendars to built-in time for unexpected appointments and sibling support. Practical Strategies to Try Now Here are some actionable takeaways to help you find your family's sweet spot: Start with Your “Must Do's”: Define your “minimum viable day”—the simplest version of what needs to happen (e.g., a little reading, writing, and math). Ease into your routine and build up slowly. Anchors, Not Timetables: Instead of strict schedules, anchor your day around meals, read-alouds, or physical routines. Visual Tools & Ownership: Use checklists, whiteboards, or color-coded calendars so your kids know what's on deck. In this episode of The Intelligent Vocalist, John digs into the idea of criticality, the brain's “sweet spot” for learning, creativity, and performance. He explains how singers can get stuck in either too much control or too much chaos, and why the real magic happens right in between. Find that balance so your singing feels easier, freer, and more fun. Episode highlights: Great singing happens in the balance between control and freedom. Stress, lack of sleep, and overthinking can pull you out of your brain's sweet spot. Short, focused practice sessions and even mental rehearsal help the brain stay in flow.
