This week on The Exit, host Steve McGarry sits down with entrepreneur, CPA, and wealth strategist Cecilia “CeCe” Leung for a candid conversation about one of the most overlooked parts of selling a business: what happens after the deal closes. Drawing from more than 20 years of experience in finance, Wall Street, and advising founders through complex transactions, CeCe shares why so many entrepreneurs focus on valuation and due diligence while overlooking the emotional, personal, and identity shifts that often follow an exit.
CeCe breaks down common mistakes founders make when preparing for a sale, from failing to think through post deal dynamics with private equity partners to overlooking succession planning and negotiating leverage. She also explores the deeper side of entrepreneurship, including founder burnout, setting boundaries, defining personal success, and why understanding why you want to sell may be just as important as the sale itself. Whether you are preparing for an exit or simply building toward one, this episode offers a refreshing perspective on creating both financial freedom and a meaningful life beyond business.

Cecilia “CeCe” Leung is a CPA, entrepreneur, and founder of Rich & Sassy Wealth Strategies, where she helps founders and executives navigate high stakes moments including exits, IPOs, and major financial transitions. With more than 20 years of experience spanning Big Four firms, investment banking, and CFO leadership roles, CeCe combines financial strategy with a human centered approach to help leaders build wealth, make smarter decisions, and create success that lasts beyond the business.

Most founders do not delay people structure because they are careless. They delay because structure can feel like a threat to the culture, flexibility, and trust that made the business work in the first place. In this episode, I talk about why growing companies eventually need more than informal management, and how the right structure can protect the culture you worked so hard to build instead of replacing it.Linkshttps://vickybrownhr.com/idooncallInvitationUse the link below to learn more and become an Idomeneo insider. Host and remarried divorcee is joined by Dennis Vetrano Jr., a seasoned family law attorney with over 20 years of experience. Dennis pulls back the curtain on why marriages actually end, the "people problems" vs. "relationship problems" distinction, and the small, daily habits that act as the only real defense against the courtroom. In this Episode we cover:00:00 – The Pattern of "Quiet Breakdown" Dennis explains why giving away small opportunities to connect is the #1 silent killer of relationships.02:40 – Meet Dennis Vetaono Jr. An introduction to the seasoned divorce attorney and host of the DVR Law Show who reverse-engineers failed marriages to help couples succeed.05:15 – Personal Injury to Family Law: A Lawyer's Journey How Dennis discovered his passion for advocating for families and why he started "reverse-engineering" divorce cases.08:22 – People Problems vs. Relationship Problems A critical distinction: Why your spouse can't fix your individual trauma, and why some issues belong in individual therapy, not marriage counseling.12:10 – The Myth of "Falling Out of Love" Dennis explains why love doesn't vanish overnight—it's "death by a thousand cuts" and the loss of daily micro-connections.15:45 – Why You Should Never Sleep in Separate Beds A controversial take on why protecting the literal "space" for connection is vital when life gets busy.20:12 – The Baby Boomer Divorce Spike Dennis discusses why long-term couples are splitting after 30 years and how to avoid the "resentment trap" in later life.24:45 – Marriage as the #1 Priority Why putting your spouse before parents, friends, and even children (in a healthy way) is the key to a 50-year marriage.29:10 – Should You "Stay for the Kids"? A raw conversation about the impact of divorce on children. Dennis and the host debate the balance between a "toxic environment" and the stability of the family unit.35:30 – Connecting Through the "Grind" How sharing household tasks and "commiserating" over daily stressors like diapers and bosses creates a stronger bond than vacations ever could.42:15 – Throwing Away the "Scoreboard" Why keeping track of who did what is a recipe for disaster. Dennis shares how to give without expecting immediate reciprocation to shift the relationship dynamic.48:40 – Is the Grass Greener? The Regret of Divorce Dennis shares insights on why more people are starting to regret leaving workable relationships and how to know if yours is still viable.55:20 – Moving Forward: Legal Wisdom for Relationship Growth Final advice on how to use the "divorce attorney's perspective" to prevent ever needing one. What does a divorce attorney see that most couples miss? Dennis Vetrano Jr. joins the podcast to share the "death by a thousand cuts" patterns that lead couples to his office. From the danger of sleeping in separate beds to the "scoreboard" trap, Dennis reveals how to reverse-engineer a failing marriage and turn it back into a thriving partnership. We tackle the tough questions: Can you fix a "people problem" with marriage counseling? How does divorce really affect children long-term? And why are so many Baby Boomers filing for divorce after three decades? If you've ever wondered if the grass is truly greener on the other side, this episode is a must-watch.

This week, we began our new series, Encounter, by looking at Paul's final words in 2 Timothy 4 and the reality of "people problems." Even in the midst of betrayal, loneliness, and disappointment, Paul remains faithful to the call God placed on his life. Through his example, we're reminded that encounters with Jesus don't remove hardship, but they do reshape how we endure it. God meets us not only in the easy moments, but also in the tension, hurt, and perseverance of everyday life. Ultimately, the message calls us to stay faithful to Christ even when people let us down.     Want to watch a version of this message? What if your clinic doesn't have a culture problem - but a standards problem? Culture isn't what you preach. It's what you permit. In this episode of the Grow Your Clinic podcast, we sit down with Sara Siami - founder of The People Plugin - to unpack what culture really means inside a clinic. Sara challenges the idea that culture is about perks or personality, and reframes it as the standards of behaviour and performance you accept and tolerate. We break down her four-part framework for turning people problems into performance (outputs, outcomes, behaviours and attitudes), the difference between hitting numbers and living values, and why HR should be a proactive investment - not a last-minute rescue plan. Sara also shares how to run performance reviews that actually build trust (using the SCARF model), create accountability without fear, and address issues early before they become expensive mistakes. If you want a stronger team, clearer standards, and a culture that drives performance, this episode is your practical playbook for building a clinic that performs at every level.Resources:You can find Sara Siami at https://www.thepeopleplugin.com/  and book in with her at  https://meetings.hubspot.com/sara-siami Need to systemise your clinic? Drawing from 30+ years of coaching spas, clinics, salons, and yes, even plumbers and electricians, Kim breaks down why people problems show up across every industry and what you can actually do about it. You'll hear about Kim's framework for building a culture where people don't want to leave, and how getting your systems and processes in place creates safety for everyone. If you've ever thought "I have to do everything myself" or "there's no way I can grow this," this episode is your mirror. In this episode: Why both the employer AND employee are right even in their limited thinking How your past experiences are now the lens you can't see past The framework for building loyal teams Why its GOOD that not everyone wants to be a business owner What it actually means to be a purpose-driven, ethical leader How to stop being the bottleneck in your own business Ready to hear more about Kim's new people system? What if the real problem on your team isn't “people problems,” but the problems your people carry? We sit down with Matt Granados—founder of Life Pulse, author of Motivate the Unmotivated and The Intentional Week—to rethink leadership from the ground up. Matt makes a clear, compelling case for aiming at optimal performance: high output at a sustainable pace compared to yourself. No burnout badge. No hustle theater. Just systems that help humans do their best work without losing themselves. We break down a simple weekly cadence that top teams use to spot issues before they explode. Three questions—What are you focused on? What are you grateful for? What are you working toward?—surface trends, context, and capacity. Matt explains why leaders should listen for patterns over one-off answers, and how kindness (truth with care) beats niceness (comfort without growth). You'll hear the four levels of performance, the pitfalls of managing like a babysitter, and the practical steps to equip rather than enable.• the claim that people don't have people problems, people have problems• what equipping looks like versus enabling• three weekly questions that reveal trends fast• the difference between high and optimal performance• why kindness beats niceness for real growth• using structure and rhythm to prevent burnout• Eagle U's role in early systems thinking• the Take Part Foundation's focus on research, resources, storytelling• daily disciplines to abide and lead with integrityMatt also shares the heart behind the Take Part Foundation, co-founded with his wife Maria after their daughter Natalie was diagnosed with an ultra-rare genetic condition. Their mission—fund research, provide resources like genetic testing, and tell stories—shows what hope looks like in action. It's a masterclass in leading through adversity: build structure, choose obedience over opportunism, and serve people with courage and clarity. If you lead teams, coach leaders, or care about culture, you'll leave with a playbook to boost output without sacrificing well-being. Try the three questions for four weeks and watch the signal emerge. Then act with curiosity, not judgment. If this conversation moved you, share it with a leader who needs it, subscribe for more thoughtful interviews, and leave a review so we can reach more uncommon leaders.Connect with Matt Granados: ➡️ LinkedIn (primary): https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt87granados/➡️ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@lifepulseinc7163➡️ Website: http://www.lifepulseinc.com/uncommonleaderThanks for listening in to the Uncommon Leader Podcast. QFF: Quick Fire Friday – Your 20-Minute Growth Powerhouse!   Welcome to Quick Fire Friday, the Grow A Small Business podcast series that is designed to deliver simple, focused and actionable insights and key takeaways in less than 20 minutes a week.   Every Friday, we bring you business owners and experts who share their top strategies for growing yourself, your team and your small business. Get ready for a dose of inspiration, one action you can implement and quotable quotes that will stick with you long after the episode ends!   In this episode of Quick Fire Friday, host Rob Cameron interviews Mike Goldman, leadership team coach and founder of The Better Leadership Team. Mike shares why most business growth problems are actually people problems — and how strong leadership teams fix them. They discuss stalled growth, rapid scaling challenges, and how to build teams that execute without constant micromanagement. Mike breaks down practical ways leaders can set clear expectations, coach effectively, and hold people accountable. A must-listen for business owners who want sustainable growth, higher profits, and a company that runs smoothly without burnout. Key Takeaways for Small Business Owners: People problems cause most growth problems — when progress stalls, the issue is usually leadership, structure, or talent, not strategy.   Strong leadership teams drive everything — as the leadership team performs, the rest of the business follows.   Clear expectations prevent poor results — unclear roles, behaviors, and success metrics always lead to disappointment. Our hero crafts outstanding reviews following the experience of listening to our special guests. Are you the one we've been waiting for?   Right people matter more than perfect strategy — even an average plan succeeds with the right team, while a great plan fails with the wrong one.   Growth requires structure, not hustle — fast-growing businesses collapse without clear roles, accountability, and discipline.   Great leaders coach, not just manage — consistent coaching and talent development turn average performers into top contributors. You Will Lose Some Clients — and That's Good: Raising prices naturally filters out low-value customers, making room for clients who appreciate and pay for quality.   One action small business owners can take: According to Mike Goldman, one action small business owners can take is to clearly define and document specific expectations and measures of success for each team member, then align on those expectations through open conversation so accountability, performance, and growth are no longer left to assumption. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son to be NICE to the world.       NO NO NO NO to die for the world.      John 5  Afterward Jesus returned to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish holy days. 2 Inside the city, near the Sheep Gate, was the pool of Bethesda, with five covered porches. 3 Crowds of sick people—blind, lame, or paralyzed—lay on the porches. 5 One of the men lying there had been sick for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him and knew he had been ill for a long time, he asked him, “Would you like to get well?” 7 “I can't, sir,” the sick man said, “for I have no one to put me into the pool when the water bubbles up. Someone else always gets there ahead of me.” 8 Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!” 9 Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking! But this miracle happened on the Sabbath, 10 so the Jewish leaders objected. They said to the man who was cured, “You can't work on the Sabbath! The law doesn't allow you to carry that sleeping mat!” 11 But he replied, “The man who healed me told me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.'” 12 “Who said such a thing as that?” they demanded. 13 The man didn't know, for Jesus had disappeared into the crowd. 14 But afterward Jesus found him in the Temple and told him, “Now you are well; so stop sinning, or something even worse (GK same word: the evil spirit will return with 7 more and you will be worse) may happen to you.” 15 Then the man went and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had healed him.  **Many times when Jesus healed the sick he would say and your sins have been forgiven- acknowledging that they believed he was the Messiah and had received their healing because of it- but not his guy. He did not want to be healed, nor did he believe Jesus was the messiah.    **I might add the Pharisees did not hassle this man they went after Jesus - which was typically not the case. HOWEVER I believe that because the man did not receive Christ as the messiah the demons didn't care about his healing and left him alone… the pharisees were obviously motivated by the demonic!

Solving technology problems often involves breaking a problem into multiple smaller problems, build interaction surfaces between the pieces, and glue the pieces back into a larger system. We also know every technology problem is actually a people problem--whether in the past, the present, or the future. Given these two points, can we say something like: "If technology and people problems are interchangeable, we should be able to solve people problems the way we solve technology problems--via modularization?"

This episode is a listener-submitted Small Town People Problem, and it's one we hear a lot: What do we do about local negativity? How do we deal with it when the people in the town are the ones being the Negative Nancies (or Negative Normans), and what can we do about it? We are joined by the amazing Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer, who, as it happens, is someone who knows quite a lot about local apathy and what to do about it. About Heidi: Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer barely escaped law school. She became a freelance writer in 2006, the Mayor of HeidiTown.com in 2007, and a community builder in 2023 when she formed HeidiTown Consulting. Through years of visiting small towns as a writer and Mayor of HeidiTown.com, Heidi recognized that while she loved every small town she visited, the town's locals were often apathetic about where they lived. Today, Heidi reminds people to love where they live by telling them how to and why it is important. She believes it starts with the individuals in a community. They are the ones who have the power to make their town extraordinary.   "This isn't economic development and this isn't tourism; it is that sweet spot that inspires pride in place so that when they come, whether as a new resident or as a visitor, they are happy to be there." ~Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer In this episode, we cover: Why it's easy to get apathetic about our own small town What to do about a negative narrative Who our “front-line” people are and how we can help them be better ambassadors Resources Mentioned: HeidiTown Consulting: https://www.heiditownconsulting.com/ HeidiTown.com: https://www.heiditown.com/ Heidi and Ryan's Business: http://www.rtsfurnituredesign.com/ Knight Foundation: https://knightfoundation.org/sotc/ Small-Town Shout-Out!
