If you've ever tried to launch a second campus, you know the struggle is real. Turns out, most churches get their staffing and structure wrong from day one, but we're here to save you from those painful missteps. In this episode, Amy and Sean dive into the math behind multisite staffing (hint: your ratios probably need to change), why rushing to build a massive central team is a recipe for disaster, and how to avoid turning your campus pastor into a lonely island. We'll also tackle the ever-present challenge of who actually gets to make decisions in this whole multisite dance.  Whether you're thinking about going multisite or feeling “multi-stuck” right now, we discuss practical guidance you may need to build a structure that actually works.   This Episode Is Brought to You by PlainJoe: Are you considering adding a second or third campus to your growing church? You know that moment when your brilliant idea suddenly reveals itself to be... not so brilliant? Mine came on our first vacation as a family. We were camping in Estes Park, down to our last few dollars before payday. When the kids wanted candy at the grocery store, I proudly stood firm: "No candy. Put it all back." Father of the Year material, right? Then I turned to my wife Renda, and her body language said, “What are you doing? It's vacation. Give the children candy, and give me candy!" But I couldn't imagine my wife actually wanting to spend our last few dollars on the kids eating candy. So, I innocently suggested, "But honey, YOU can pick out some candy if you want, just for you." The look I received could have melted the Rocky Mountains. Turns out, marriage isn't just about the rules or about having your own way. It's about sharing life's sweetness and bitterness together. In 1 Corinthians, Paul reminds us that "Marriage is not a place to 'stand up for your rights.' Marriage is a decision to serve the other." This Sunday, we'll continue our series "Church with People Problems, People with Church Problems, and Problems with church People," by exploring how Christ calls us to sacred servanthood within marriage. We'll examine how marriage reflects our relationship with Christ and how sacrificial love transforms our homes. In this message, we unwrap God's sweet design for marriage (with considerably more wisdom than I showed on that camping trip).Dr. Edson Knapp

Solving technology problems often involves breaking a problem into multiple smaller problems, build interaction surfaces between the pieces, and glue the pieces back into a larger system. We also know every technology problem is actually a people problem--whether in the past, the present, or the future. Given these two points, can we say something like: "If technology and people problems are interchangeable, we should be able to solve people problems the way we solve technology problems--via modularization?"

This episode is a listener-submitted Small Town People Problem, and it's one we hear a lot: What do we do about local negativity? How do we deal with it when the people in the town are the ones being the Negative Nancies (or Negative Normans), and what can we do about it? We are joined by the amazing Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer, who, as it happens, is someone who knows quite a lot about local apathy and what to do about it. About Heidi: Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer barely escaped law school. She became a freelance writer in 2006, the Mayor of HeidiTown.com in 2007, and a community builder in 2023 when she formed HeidiTown Consulting. Through years of visiting small towns as a writer and Mayor of HeidiTown.com, Heidi recognized that while she loved every small town she visited, the town's locals were often apathetic about where they lived. Today, Heidi reminds people to love where they live by telling them how to and why it is important. She believes it starts with the individuals in a community. They are the ones who have the power to make their town extraordinary.   "This isn't economic development and this isn't tourism; it is that sweet spot that inspires pride in place so that when they come, whether as a new resident or as a visitor, they are happy to be there." ~Heidi Kerr-Schlaefer In this episode, we cover: Why it's easy to get apathetic about our own small town What to do about a negative narrative Who our “front-line” people are and how we can help them be better ambassadors Resources Mentioned: HeidiTown Consulting: https://www.heiditownconsulting.com/ HeidiTown.com: https://www.heiditown.com/ Heidi and Ryan's Business: http://www.rtsfurnituredesign.com/ Knight Foundation: https://knightfoundation.org/sotc/ Small-Town Shout-Out! What if the real reason your team isn't thriving isn't them—it's you? In this episode, Ashok sits down with Sel Watts, founder of Wattsnext and a trusted advisor to growth-stage executives, to talk about the blind spots that derail team performance. Sel shares why leaders often overengineer HR systems while neglecting the basic needs of their people—and why getting back to the fundamentals starts with brutal self-honesty. They explore why traditional job descriptions are outdated, how to rethink role clarity using "outcome profiles," and why consistency beats charisma when it comes to leadership. Sel also shares candid stories from the field—including one about a CEO who had zero emotional intelligence but ran a surprisingly stable company—and explains how tools like behavioral profiling can be powerful when used correctly (and not just shelved after a team offsite). Inside the episode Why leadership starts with self-awareness, not structure The “outcome profile” approach to defining roles clearly How to tell if someone's actually underperforming—or just misaligned What happens when leaders care more about process than people The surprising upsides of being consistent, even if you're not "warm" Why behavioral profiling tools are often wasted One-on-ones, All Hands, and rituals that only work when leaders believe in them Rethinking hiring decisions by starting with the org chart, not the title The cost of skipping reflection before replacing a team member A real-world example of a team where mutual accountability actually works   Mentioned in this episode Wattsnextpx - https://www.wattsnextpx.com Extended DISC - https://www.extendeddisc.org/ AcuMax - https://www.acumaxindex.com/ Myers-Briggs - https://www.themyersbriggs.com/en-US/Products-and-Services/Myers-Briggs Predictive Index - https://www.predictiveindex.com/ Entrepreneurs' Organisation (EO) - https://eonetwork.org/ Unlock the full potential of your product team with Integral's player coaches, experts in lean, human-centered design. There are lots of people problems managers can't ignore if they want to have a happy and productive team. People problems in your team usually get worst over time if left alone and they will easily damage team performance. I share THE top 5 people problems managers shouldn't ignore (in my opinion). --- How to Manager Difficult Employees (1 Day Course) Learn how to manage and improve any difficult, underperforming or problematic employees quickly and effectively. Find out more here https://enhance.training/lp/manage-difficult-people-usp015/ ---  The first people problem managers can't ignore is bullying and any behaviour intended to put others down. Any form of bullying that the manager ignores is deadly. No action will destroy team trust, motivation and performance. This drop in performance can be quick and dramatic with these people problems at work.Always take actions quickly to stop any form of bullying in your team. It is one of the worst people problems that impact performance. The second of the people problems to always look out for is individual undermining team members or you. Undermining can take many forms – usually a pattern of behaviour to attack another person credibility, confidence, standing etc. Use an escalating set of steps to make it unappealing for undermining to happen in your team.  The third of the people problems managers need to spot is individuals taking credit for others work. This behaviour damages trust, relationships and teamwork. For those take credit for others work, they may get short term gains, but they nearly always lose out long term. Demonstrate how to give credit by praising good work, ideas and actions across your team publicly. Don't put up with team member unfairly taking credit. Fourth  of the people problems that kill team performance is no or poor communication. Communication is at the heart of relationships, co-ordination, collaboration, teamwork, solution building and more. I share 7 actions to encourage more communication within your teams. Help coach team members who struggle to communicating and give them opportunities to practice. Fifth of the damaging people problems for managers is conflicts between team members. Conflicts can arise for all sorts of reasons. Often it is not the fault of those in conflict. As a manager you are very well placed to help all parties resolve conflicts quickly, fairly and openly. I share steps to take. If you have any questions on “The Top 5 People Problems Managers Can't Ignore For Happy & Productive Teams” please email me at support@enhance.training and I will get back to you. Jess Coles Enhance.training

The conversation turns to the best way to treat those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. What should you say? What should you avoid saying? How does this treatment differ from how you treat someone whose loved one is dying but still alive? What about how you handle someone who is himself dying? The episode finishes with a discussion about why unity may not be desirable as an ultimate goal. What are some problems with making unity your highest value?

Global Product Management Talk is pleased to bring you the next episode of... Product Mastery Now with host Chad McAllister, PhD. The podcast is all about helping people involved in innovation and managing products become more successful, grow their careers, and STANDOUT from their peers. About the Episode:  Innovation expert Doug Hall reveals why most organizations struggle with innovation despite recognizing its importance. Through his experience running Eureka! Ranch and Dexter Bourbon Distillery, Hall discovered that successful innovation requires a bottom-up transformation focusing first on empowering frontline employees to fix inefficiencies (“stop the stupid”), then enabling middle managers to improve systems, and finally allowing leadership to pursue bigger strategic innovations. This three-level approach has shown to increase innovation value by 28% versus the typical 50% decline seen in traditional top-down approaches. Key Topics: The Innovation Paradox: While 80% of CEOs say innovation is critical, only 20% believe their organizations are good at itEmployee Innovation Barriers: 37% don't see innovation as their job, 29% don't know what to do about itMiddle Management Challenge: Managers waste 3.5 hours daily dealing with mistakes and system flawsSystem vs. People Problems: 78% of issues come from flawed company systems, only 22% from employee mistakesThe “Stop the Stupid” Approach: Start with empowering employees to fix immediate inefficiencies before pursuing larger innovationsThree-Step Framework: 1) Teach innovation fundamentals, 2) Build confidence through early wins, 3) Develop systems thinkingMeasurable Impact: Organizations can achieve 4 improvement actions per employee per monthCultural Transformation: Focus on intrinsic motivation rather than external incentives

On this episode of the Customer's First Podcast, we dive deep into the complexities of leadership with Brenda Neckvatal, a two-time best-selling author, award-winning HR professional, and serial entrepreneur. Together, we explore the art of mastering the people side of leadership, especially when navigating relationships with challenging personalities. Brenda opens up about her past experiences with difficult personalities that fueled her passion for helping others strengthen their leadership skills. With an emphasis on the significant difference between managers and true leaders, she explains how managers often focus on checking boxes and adhering to defined parameters. In contrast, leaders lift their teams, foster transformation, and encourage growth. Through this differentiation, Brenda highlights the critical role of trust in building effective teams, and she emphasizes that a leader's ability to listen actively is paramount to understanding team dynamics. Moreover, we delve into the cruciality of establishing a follow-up culture, where leaders routinely communicate decisions and acknowledge contributions made by their team members. Brenda illustrates this with a compelling story about a mentor who continually engaged and celebrated his team's suggestions, fostering a vibrant environment ripe for collaboration and innovation.  Brenda concludes with an empowering reminder that there are no justified resentments—encouraging leaders to release negativity and focus on fostering a positive, empowering culture in their workplaces. Throughout this engaging discussion, listeners are equipped with actionable insights and the motivation to become true leaders who inspire and elevate their teams.
