By most accounts, stories of black-eyed kids, at least as we recognize them today, stem from an article written in 1996 by Texas reporter Brian Bethel. In it, he describes two encounters with odd children who seemed out of place, and out of sorts, possessing poor social skills and eyes as black as coal.  But are the stories real?  We'll explore a few of the more famous tales and discuss whether these demonic cherubs are a real threat or simply a figment of the Internet's collective imagination.https://listverse.com/2016/06/15/10-bizarre-but-chilling-encounters-with-black-eyed-children/https://texashillcountry.com/black-eyed-kids-legend-abilene/https://web.archive.org/web/20151208221117/http://www.reporternews.com/news/columnists/brian-bethel/brian-bethel-recounts-his-possible-paranormal-encounter-with-beks-ep-384772497-348207271.htmlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-eyed_childrenhttps://web.randi.org/swift/behind-black-eyes-reports-of-spooky-black-eyed-kidshttps://www.news.com.au/technology/science/black-eyed-children-real-or-just-a-creepy-myth/news-story/988409b3f5a67b3592a09159e1b31ba0https://web.archive.org/web/20121217034359/http://www.columbian.com/news/2012/dec/14/legend-spurs-filmhttps://www.buzzfeed.com/patricksmith/everything-you-need-to-know-about-black-eyed-ghost-childrenhttps://www.dailyedge.ie/black-eyed-ghost-children-1703721-Oct2014/

For most of us, the idea of dying isn’t one we think of fondly. It’s a frightening leap into the unknown, one we anticipate will come with a lot of pain, a loss of dignity, and a surrender of any illusion of control we may have thought we had in life. But for the right to die advocates, the idea that we should be allowed to take charge of our passing, particularly those with terminal, debilitating illness, is long overdue - as is the idea that death should be something terrifying or painful.Enter the Euthanasia Roller Coaster (or Coaster of Doom, as I like to call it) a purpose-designed structure meant to kill its riders with a sense of fun and euphoria that is often lacking in assisted suicide.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euthanasia_Coasterhttps://www.discovermagazine.com/the-sciences/the-roller-coaster-designed-to-killhttp://thescienceexplorer.com/technology/euthanasia-roller-coaster-ride-designed-deathhttps://www.moma.org/interactives/exhibitions/2013/designandviolence/euthanasia-coaster-julijonas-urbonas/https://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/euthanasia-roller-coaster-the-movie.htmhttps://www.funeralwise.com/digital-dying/euthanasia-roller-coaster-yes-real-thing/https://adventure.howstuffworks.com/destinations/theme-parks/10-deadliest-roller-coaster-accidents.htmhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEklVDlqwbQ&ab_channel=FinnXuhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKmKLZOAT38&ab_channel=PurpleCat

Spontaneous human combustionSpontaneous human combustion, (also called preternatural combustibility, or auto-oxidation), happens when living or recently deceased human body erupts into flames without any apparent external ignition source. Description of this phenomenon has been around since the 7th Century occurring in both literature and popular media, including a notable death in Dickens’ Bleak House in which the Slimy Mr. Krook bursts into flames and is reduced to ashes - presumably as a sort of karmic payment for his misdeeds. It’s thought that he received the information to write the passage from a book popular at the time, the Anatomy of Drunkenness by Robert Macnish which cites 30 cases and a list of authorities that claim that SHC is possible when one consumes too much liquor.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spontaneous_human_combustion#:~:text=Spontaneous%20human%20combustion%20(SHC)%20is,apparent%20external%20source%20of%20ignition.&text=Current%20scientific%20consensus%20is%20that,overlooked%20external%20sources%20of%20ignition.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=woy4tYS5x1Mhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DJ_2qWrqs4https://www.livescience.com/42080-spontaneous-human-combustion.htmlhttps://science.howstuffworks.com/science-vs-myth/unexplained-phenomena/shc.htmhttps://www.britannica.com/story/is-spontaneous-human-combustion-realhttps://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/features/spontaneous-human-combustion-woman-who-suffered-burns-in-germany-spurs-debate-about-controversial-a6722166.htmlhttps://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/8200790/spontaneous-human-combustion-real-burns-incendiary-bomb-scientist-claims/https://io9.gizmodo.com/10-cases-of-spontaneous-human-combustion-5855700https://u.osu.edu/vanzandt/2019/03/21/its-gettin-hot-in-here-a-look-into-spontaneous-human-combustion/Ablaze!, by Larry E. While for most of us this concerns either a long evolution from some primordial being to the complex creatures we are today, or an omnipotent creator responsible for making everything we see, hear, think and feel, there are a growing number of high-minded thinkers who believe that, rather than a supernatural beginning for our species, we were born of something more high-tech. https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/2019/4/10/18275618/simulation-hypothesis-matrix-rizwan-virkhttps://www.scientificamerican.com/article/are-we-living-in-a-computer-simulation/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulation_hypothesishttps://builtin.com/hardware/simulation-theoryhttps://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/10/opinion/sunday/are-we-living-in-a-computer-simulation-lets-not-find-out.htmlhttps://www.vulture.com/2019/02/15-irrefutable-reasons-we-might-be-living-in-a-simulation.htmlhttps://www.nbcnews.com/mach/science/are-we-living-simulated-universe-here-s-what-scientists-say-ncna1026916

Arguably one of the worst-hit areas was near the Fukushima nuclear powerplant. Not only did the massive tsunami flood local farmland and level towns, but it cut power to the plant putting it at risk for one of the worst nuclear disasters the world had ever seen. If not for those who stepped up to control the aftermath, it could have been exponentially worse than the bombs that hit Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of WWII, even surpassing the Chernobyl disaster 25 years earlier. But a few brave souls did step in, though they knew it would undoubtedly mean a short life and painful end, even if they did manage to prevent a meltdown. Living in the time of COVID, we’re all getting a valuable lesson in personal responsibility. Whether that means closing the doors to our businesses for weeks and risking economic disaster Or simply wearing a mask so our at-risk neighbors stay healthy until this is all over, each and every one of us are, doing our small part to make the world a safer place. Some are even doing it with grace.Still, others risk their health and safety every day to treat those who are ill. These legends take the chance they too might fall ill (many have) because they feel they are called serve others in any way they can. They are heroes, for sure, but there are rare individuals, for whom civic responsibility goes far beyond the use of disinfectants or even caring for the gravely ill. They put their very existence on the line because to do nothing is unimaginable.Such a crew answered the world’s call in 1986 in Chernobyl, Ukraine when a damaged nuclear reactor put the lives of every man woman and child in Europe at risk. These men were asked to walk into a situation that would likely mean either an immediate end, or, at best a long, painful decline and eventual gruesome death. They could have walked away – hell they should have run - but, because they understood how much was at risk if they didn’t step up, they did it anyway. In doing so, they prevented thousands of deaths and may have even saved the world as we know it.This is the story of the Chernobyl Suicide squad.
