Finding the Will to Recover: Nick Prefontaine on Running Out of the Hospital After Doctors Said He Never WouldAt 14, Nick Prefontaine caught the edge of his snowboard going off the biggest jump in the terrain park — and that was the last thing he remembered. He woke up in a world where doctors had already told his parents he might never walk, talk, or eat on his own again. Less than 90 days later, he ran out of the hospital. In this conversation, Nick takes us inside the recovery the motivational posters never show you. We talk about the mother who refused to let a hopeless prognosis be spoken over her unconscious son, the inner voice that whispered you're going to run out of the hospital, and the STEP system — Support, Trust, Energy, Persistence — that he didn't learn from a textbook but built from inside his own crisis. If you're standing at a starting line you never asked for, wondering whether you have what it takes to get back up, Nick's story is a hand reaching back to pull you forward.About Nick PrefontaineNick is a three-time bestselling author and nationally recognized speaker, named one of the top motivational speakers by Yahoo Finance. What if the patterns that keep you stuck aren't punishment — they're an invitation?Liane Marie Lambert was 27 years old, living in London, when she looked the wrong way crossing the street and was struck by a double-decker bus. She walked out of the hospital three days later — and began a journey that would take her from lost and broken to ascension coach, energy alchemist, and bestselling author. In this episode, Liane unpacks two of the most misunderstood concepts in spiritual life: karma and dharma. She explains why karma isn't a cosmic penalty system, what the Law of Karmic Entanglement means for the patterns you can't seem to escape, and how the shift from 3D to 5D consciousness is less about thinking positive thoughts and more about doing the real inner work. This is a conversation about breaking cycles, reclaiming your power, and discovering that you were never as stuck as you thought. In this episode, we explore:Liane's near-death experience and the dark night of the soul that followedWhat karma and dharma actually mean — and how they differThe Law of Karmic Entanglement and why some people never seem to face consequencesWhy you're already a master manifestor (and what's blocking you)The difference between 3D, 4D, and 5D consciousnessTower moments, soul contracts, and how the universe pushes us to evolvePractical steps to clear karma and raise your vibrationAbout Liane Marie Lambert: Liane is an ascension coach, energy alchemist, karma/dharma activator, and bestselling author of Karma to Dharma: A New Age Guide to Becoming Superhuman — now available as an audiobook narrated by Liane herself. We tend to think of grief as something we feel — a heaviness in the heart, a fog in the mind. But what if grief is also something we store, physically, in the body? And what if the breath you take without thinking could be the very thing that sets it free?In this episode, I talk with Kurtis Lee Thomas — the "Man from the Stars" — about a path to healing that didn't begin in a wellness studio, but in suffering. A five-year stomach condition no doctor could diagnose. The loss of his brother to gun violence. A 2 a.m. encounter with a medium at a gas station that cracked his worldview wide open. What Kurtis found on the other side of that pain is a practice he calls humanity's original medicine. We explore why talk therapy can only reach so far, what actually happens when the breath quiets the mind's inner critic, and why grief in particular responds to this work like almost nothing else.If you've done all the "right" things and still feel something stuck inside you, this conversation offers a different doorway — and a lot of hope.About Kurtis Lee ThomasKurtis Lee Thomas is the founder of the global wellness movement Breathwork Detox and Chairman of the Just Breathe Foundation, which has partnered with Nike, NASA, and others to bring mental health solutions to those who need them most. Jacob Cooper on Near-Death Experiences, Astral Travel, and the Wisdom of Jacob's Ladder Near-death experiences have become more of a problem for us, simply because they often confuse so many people. They can feel so extraordinary that some people who have them, not our guest today of course, but some recent experiencers actually think they must have died and then come back to life! And IANDS, the International Association for Near-Death Studies, used to police pretty carefully what people said at their conferences; but not so much anymore. So we are going to have to say here just quickly once again that death is ALWAYS a one-way trip! And NEAR-death experiences are instances of spontaneous, out-of-body travel into the astral plane, usually when for one reason or another, the material body is briefly unable to support life. And when that happens, and we suddenly find ourselves awake and aware in the astral plane, which is an entirely different environment from the earth, although oddly it's very earthlike and with a love-drenched atmosphere, our spirit guides will often give us weird and amazing experiences that are educational, and are meant for us alone. And then, of course we come back into our body, and we wake up. So, what can we assume but that we died and came back to life? But in fact, such a round trip to the afterlife is impossible, because the definition of death is the severing of the energy cord from your energy body to your material body that keeps your material body alive when you astral travel. And in fact, many of us astral travel nearly every night while our bodies sleep. That silver cord cannot be re-attached once it breaks. So, if some living person is able to tell you their NDE story, that person never has actually died! And they never have been to where the dead go. All of that being said, near-death experiences can be amazing, and many of them are life-transforming. And our guest today had his first transformative near-death experience when he was only three years old! Jacob Cooper is with us today for the sixth time. His first book was entitled Life After Breath, and it begins with his remarkable near-death experience at the age of only three. His second book, called The Wisdom of Jacob's Ladder, talks about his many further extraordinary spiritual experiences, and what he has learned from them. We have really loved having Jacob Cooper as our guest on Seek Reality, and we are delighted to have him back today! Learn more about Roberta here: http://robertagrimes.com https://seekreality.com/

This week I'm talking to Kimberly Clark Sharp about her book 'AFTER THE LIGHT: What I Discovered on the Other Side of Life That Can Change Your World' and her part in the Maria's shoe case.Death is nothing to fear-and life without fear can be lived to the fullest. This is Kimberly Clark Sharp's message from her extraordinary experience during the time after her heart suddenly stopped beating and she lay on the sidewalk, not breathing, and without a pulse. Swept into a peaceful loving place of brilliant golden light and warm comfort, she saw, for the first time, the meaning of life-and death. Thereafter, Kimberly, with hamster Toto at her side, left Kansas for Seattle-known as "the Emerald City"-to fulfill a destiny devoted to the service of others as foreseen at the end of her near-death experience. Guided by a new sensitivity to the presence of angels, demons and other invisibilities, Kimberly attained a Masters degree in Social Work at the University of Washington and began a career in medical social work that put her in direct contact with dying people-and people who almost died and came back. It is the inspirational stories of these near-death experiences, as well as Kimberly's own life challenges in love, family life and the diagnosis of breast cancer, that form the core of this surprisingly funny page-turner of a book.BioKimberly Clark Sharp, MSW, LiCSW had a near-death experience at twenty-two.  She is the author of After the Light: The Spiritual Path to Purpose (Wm. This episode explores one of the most compelling areas of near-death research: documented spiritual near-death experiences reported by children. While adult accounts of NDEs are widely discussed, children's experiences offer a distinct and often unsettling clarity. With minimal exposure to religious doctrine or cultural narratives about death, children tend to describe what they experienced without symbolic overlay, interpretation, or fear.Drawing on named, traceable cases documented by pediatrician and researcher Melvin Morse, as well as long-term analyses by P.M.H. Atwater, this episode focuses on what children themselves reported after surviving life-threatening events such as drowning, cardiac arrest, and severe illness. In case after case, children described leaving their physical bodies with little distress and observing medical resuscitation efforts from an external vantage point. Several accounts included accurate descriptions of hospital rooms, procedures, or family members' actions during periods when the child was clinically unresponsive. These observations were later corroborated by medical staff or parents.Beyond out-of-body perception, many children reported entering environments characterized by intense light, vivid landscapes, or a sense of peace and safety. Unlike adult accounts, children rarely described judgment, life reviews, or moral evaluation. Instead, their experiences emphasized belonging, familiarity, and unconditional acceptance. Morse noted that children often struggled to describe the light they encountered, insisting it was not merely visual but relational, something that “knew” them. Some of the most striking cases involved children encountering deceased relatives they had never consciously known. In multiple documented instances, children identified grandparents or siblings who had died before they were born, later recognizing them in photographs. These encounters were described casually, without surprise, as if meeting someone expected. The episode also examines what happened after children returned. Long-term follow-up interviews revealed consistent aftereffects: reduced fear of death, heightened empathy, and an increased sensitivity to others' emotions. Many children spoke calmly about dying and, in some cases, reassured adults during later illnesses or family crises. These statements were framed not as beliefs, but as memories.Importantly, the children themselves did not question the reality of their experiences. Years later, many maintained that what happened was not a dream or hallucination. This certainty was typically quiet and private, shaping their outlook without becoming performative or doctrinal.By focusing on named cases preserved in published research and presentations associated with the International Association for Near-Death Studies, this episode avoids speculation and instead centers on testimony. Children do not offer explanations for what they experienced. They simply describe where they went, and insist that it was real. https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/ourparanormalafterlifeMy book 'Verified Near Death Experiences' https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DXKRGDFP Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. My guest wrote to me saying "even as a child , my mother had me researching at the library and writing essays on various topics! I went on to pursue higher education and become a teacher, and after retiring from a successful and rewarding career, I went on to write an award winning spiritual fiction and a prominently endorsed 5-book series (in addition to contributing to numerous anthology books."  Dr. Foderaro continues, "I am passionate about handling life's challenges with goodness, compassion, honesty and love. I talk about surviving Family Trauma which initially led to being open to the Universe's signs and synchronicities, and then eventually led to my writing to heal and becoming an author. From a young age, Marni's mother, Elizabeth Ann, taught her daughter many lessons. Often these recurring lessons were meant to instill creativity, discipline and motivation, all skills that Marni says were helpful when becoming a teacher. For example, Marni shares the story of when she was a child and wanted her first ten speed bicycle and many more.  Her mother was steadfast and had specific reasoning as to how Marni could get that bike. You'll have to listen to the show to get all the details. Just so you know, both  Marni and her mother were writers and teachers."My mother was a lover of words and extremely witty and intelligent. She grew up in Florida and North Carolina. She got her   Masters Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in an era and area of the United States  which typically  was unheard of for women, continues Marni. Before completing her Masters, Elizabeth Ann was a high school English teacher in Broward Co., Florida and went on to teach English at Stetson University at DeLand, Florida." Marni is convinced that her mom had tremendous family support and encouragement as a young lady, otherwise "there's no way she could have achieved all that she did" reflects Dr. Foderaro.Marni has many wonderful stories to share about her mother and how she encouraged and supported her as a child and how her mother still influences her today. " I know my mom was a huge part of who I am."Foderaro admits that her upbringing was unconventional compared to her peers. It was the 60's and she and her two younger brothers had plenty of freedom. The kids were often on their own, left to raise themselves, yet plenty of time to be creative. Her father was a college professor. "The freedom had pros and cons", says Foderaro, "I didn't get guidance for many things, it was bittersweet. Years down the line, trapped in an abusive marriage and facing back surgery, she flatlined on an X-ray table and found herself pressed against the ceiling, watching her own code blue unfold below. Beside her was a presence she knew as God, replaying scenes from her life and asking what she would do if she returned and nothing on the ground had changed. He explained how NDEs profoundly change people's lives, making them more compassionate and less materialistic. Dr. Greyson shared compelling stories, including that of a Marine whose NDE made him unable to continue his military duties. He highlighted the growing recognition of NDEs in the medical community and the need for further research. The episode also delved into Dr. Greyson's personal journey, the scientific challenges in studying NDEs, and the universal message of interconnectedness and compassion. About Bruce: Dr. Bruce Greyson is the Chester Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia.  He was previously on the medical faculty at the University of Michigan and the University of Connecticut, where he was Clinical Chief of Psychiatry. Dr. Greyson has consulted with the National Institutes of Health and addressed symposia on consciousness at the United Nations and at the Dalai Lama's compound in Dharamsala, India. Dr. Greyson's interest in near-death experiences began just a few months after graduating from medical school, when he treated an unconscious patient in the emergency room who stunned him the next morning with an account of leaving her body. That event challenged his beliefs about the mind and the brain, and ultimately led him on a journey to study near-death experiences scientifically, leading to more than a hundred publications in medical journals.  He co-founded the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS), an organization to support and promote research into these experiences, and for 27 years edited the Journal of Near-Death Studies, the only scholarly journal dedicated to near-death research. Dr. Bruce Greyson, M.D. (author of After, Chester Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at the University of Virginia, and co-founder of the International Association for Near-Death Studies) shares the near-death experience (NDE) that shattered his medical skepticism and launched decades of consciousness research. A Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Greyson explores astonishing cases of tunnel visions, otherworldly reunions, and the powerful, peer-reviewed scientific evidence for life after death. Could it be that consciousness exists outside the brain? Discover why many say NDEs eliminate the fear of dying, trigger lifelong transformation, and may even unlock hidden psychic abilities. As the bestselling author of Is There Life After Death? and Cheating the Ferryman, Anthony Peake has studied the phenomena surrounding what happens when we die. In Near-Death Experiences, he takes a look at a phenomenon that has garnered great attention from both academics and scientists who study the workings of the brain and the physiological events that are associated with this seemingly inexplicable state.By marrying up anecdotal evidence with empirical scientific evidence, Peake proffers the latest theories behind what we call 'near-death experiences' and how those investigating them are trying to reconcile an apparent state of awareness on the part of the person concerned with the fact that clinically they are considered by physicians to be in a state of clinical death with no signs of bodily functions. It makes for a fascinating read that takes us into an area of neuroscientific research that is continually evolving.BioAnthony Peake was a curious child. While his friends were reading Batman and Superman comics Anthony was immersing himself in learning of the most arcane nature (whilst still keeping an eye on the X-Men and Dr. Strange). It was in 1966, at the age of twelve that he, quite by accident, came across a copy of The Sky People by Brinsley Le Poer Trench and from then on there was no stopping him. The British part-series Man Myth and Magic was read with intense interest followed by the discovery of John Keel's Project Trojan Horse and Jacques Vallee's Passport to Magonia. What followed was a voracious, and unquenchable, need to know everything about everything. At university he chose courses that would accommodate his wide interests, specialising in the sociology of religion, the theory of language development and the art of the Italian Renaissance. A post-graduate course in management lead Anthony away from his calling as a writer and into a career as a manager in various UK businesses. His interest in the esoteric continued with a growing fascination for quantum physics and neurology developing over the years. It was in the year 2000 that his life was to change. A fortuitous set of circumstances allowed him to take a year sabbatical from his business career and he decided that he would focus the fruits of all his reading and research in writing a book. Exactly one year later he surfaced with the manuscript of his first book, then entitled Cheating the Ferryman. This book was a distillation of all his areas of interest, quantum physics, neurology, ancient myths, altered-states of consciousness and the mystery of death. However, it was to take five years before this work appeared in print. Thanks to the help of Professor Bruce Greyson of the University of Virginia, an article based upon Anthony's Cheating the Ferryman hypothesis was to appear in the Winter 2004 edition of the Journal of Near-Death Studies, the academic periodical of the International Association of Near-Death Studies (IANDS). A few months later, in early 2005, British publishing house Arcturus bought the rights to the book and, a year later, and after a substantial re-write, Anthony's first book, with the new title Is There Life After Death – The Extraordinary Science of What Happens When We Die was published. The rest, as they say, is history. This book has now sold over 60,000 copies world-wide and has been translated into various foreign language editions including Spanish, Russian and Polish. Indeed, Anthony has now had books published in every major European language.Anthony has now written twelve books. All of them develop his Cheating the Ferryman hypothesis into ever-wider areas of application. His approach has always been to apply science to the mysterious and the enigmatic. His thirteenth book, an exhaustive review of the history, anthropology and science of the much-discussed Near-Death Experience (NDE) will be published in November 2024.https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D6TGHXR8/https://www.anthonypeake.com/ https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/ourparanormalafterlife

Happy summer! Fr. Nathan is taking a few weeks off from recording The Joyful Friar Podcast. During this time, we will be replaying the most-watched episodes!Enjoy this encore episode where Fr. Nathan discusses Dr. Bruce Greyson's research on near-death experiences.Dr. He has earned awards for his medical research and was elected a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, the highest honor bestowed by that organization.Dr. Through his research, he has discovered common and universal themes in near-death experiences that go beyond neurophysiological or cultural interpretations, as well as patterns of consistent aftereffects on individuals' attitudes, beliefs, values, and personalities.Dr. Greyson is the author of "After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal About Life and Beyond." The book challenges our everyday ideas about our minds and our brains and offers key insights on how we can begin to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life.https://www.brucegreyson.comClick this link and let us know what you love about The Joyful Friar Podcast! Connect with Father Nathan Castle, O.P.

Near-Death Experiences: The BEST EVIDENCE Of Life After Death | Dr. Bruce Greyson Watch this interview at-  https://youtu.be/NsbiB-Ipc3E?si=EXij3g2kdlIOea8A Dhru Purohit 441K subscribers 982,759 views Mar 4, 2021 We often think the mind is a creation of the brain, or that the mind and the brain are one and the same. But when the brain is offline for a number of reasons, like illness or injury, the mind can sometimes still be very active. Today on The Broken Brain Podcast, Dhru talks to Dr. Bruce Greyson about this phenomenon in the context of near-death experiences or NDEs. We have to remember that even just 20 years ago new scientific ideas were emerging that people thought were crazy. People are always skeptical of things they haven't been taught. Now, the study of near-death experiences is pushing the boundaries of modern research. Dr. Greyson is a Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the UVA School of Medicine. His award-winning research led him to become a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and to be invited by the Dalai Lama to participate in a dialogue between Western scientists and Buddhist monks in India. In this episode, Dr. Greyson shares some of the most dramatic first-person accounts of near-death experiences from his book After. Dhru and Dr. Greyson discuss how NDEs reveal a lot about dying and what might come after, but they also reveal just as much about life and living, about the value of compassion and our interconnectedness with one another, and about what makes a life meaningful and fulfilling. They also talk about how NDEs can help to transform the fear of dying that pervades our culture—into a healthy view of it as one more milestone in the course of our lives. In this episode, we dive into: - Dr. Greyson's first experience with a patient who had a near-death experience (4:32) - A near-death experience story from Dr. Greyson's book (15:51) - What near-death experiences tell us about the mind-body connection (19:37) - The parallels between psychedelic experiences and near-death experiences (29:06) - The misconceptions around near-death experiences (34:58) - How near-death experiences reduce the fear of death (39:08) - How to get the benefits of a near-death experience without actually having one (41:54) - The history of near-death experiences (46:51) - Reincarnation beliefs among near-death experiencers (49:22) - How near-death experiences change people's lives (1:01:45) For more on Dr. Greyson you can follow him on Instagram @BruceGreysonMD, on Facebook @BruceGreysonMD, on Twitter @BruceGreyson, and through his website https://www.brucegreyson.com.
