Welcome to Stupid Hearts Club. The Entertainment Community for everyone with a creative, open, loving, romantic and gloriously stupid heart!-------------------Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels.Alice Lowe is possibly the most fruitful creative person I know. In fact, when I went to her house, even her actual fruit bowl contained turnips, bananas, peppers, a pomegranate and much much more. I think that image kind of works as a very strong analogy for her output. As the reigning indie queen of UK cinema Alice has already delivered three cult classics with Sightseers, Prevenge and last years Timestalker, and in my opinion she is only just getting going. This chat is part 2 of a recording I did when I visited her near Stroud in my camper van Linda. This weeks chat is more about Alices career and our shared (and differing) experiences as UK writers in and around the world of comedy and the arts. It's a fantastic conversation that any budding or (struggling) creative will benefit from. There is a section of the conversation that is a little compromised by a zip or a button tapping Alices mic that I could not get rid of as it's woven into her words. So sorry about that, but I still think its v listenable, and Alices wisdom and wit will see us all through.EnjoyyyyStupid Hearts Club Forever Baby-------------------If you enjoy what I do and would like to help support all the time and effort I lovingly put into the world of Stupid Hearts Club, which now includes, podcasts, live music events, music collabs and more, then please consider becoming a paid subcriber to my Patreon! In the first half, microbiologist and former bio-analyst Richard Anderson discussed the evolution of life, and how humans might colonize space. For life to evolve as far as it has on this planet, it needs a long, stable environment. And we've had that here on the Earth for several billion years in spite of various catastrophes and mass extinctions, he said, adding that many other planets may have far more volatile existences. He highlighted Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere as crucial for sustaining life, contrasting this with other planets like Mars and Venus. While the conditions for life likely existed on many planets and moons, if "you have a supernova or some event like that, there's going to be a burst of radiation that probably will sterilize any life within 100 light-years or so, so that's another factor that could snuff life out after it has started," he noted. The conversation also explored the concept of rotating cylinders in space, which he termed "islands in the void," designed to create Earth-like environments for long-term human habitation. These structures would address challenges like gravity, health, and ecological balance. Additionally, he touched on the potential of the asteroid belt for resource extraction and the practicality of space-based manufacturing, underscoring the need for infrastructure in space to support future space colonization. After we've developed a presence in space, it could be practical to start a colony on Mars, he suggested. He proposed this possibility in his novel, Outbound, which explores using technology to increase the gravity on the Red Planet to be similar to Earth, and then creating orchards and small lakes in the Valles Marineris canyon system.------------In the latter half, Larry Arnold, who has a mechanical and electrical engineering background, delved into the enigmatic phenomenon of spontaneous human combustion (SHC), a topic he has researched for over 50 years. He explained that SHC is characterized by the near-complete incineration of a human body without an identifiable external ignition source. Arnold emphasized the unusualness of SHC, stating, "This is blessedly a very rare phenomenon," with some years seeing no cases at all. He noted that while mainstream science largely dismisses SHC, there are credible accounts from first responders who have witnessed these bizarre events. "These cases are beyond anything that they have been trained to encounter," he remarked. He recounted specific cases, including the tragic story of Mary Hardy Reeser, who was found in St. Petersburg, FL in 1951 reduced to ashes in her chair without external ignition sources and with minimal damage to her surroundings. The death of Dr. John Irving Bentley in 1966 is "probably the best-known case of classic sudden human cremation based on the photographs that have appeared in print," Arnold commented. "Dr. Bentley burnt himself through a hole on the floor in his bathroom...leaving behind a head resting on water pipes below the floor," he said. In the 1970s, Arnold discovered a "Pennsylvania Triangle," a 27-square-mile area with five thermal anomalies where water freezes out of season, which he linked to Dr. Bentley's incineration and UFO sightings. He also touched on his submarine archaeology off the coast of Bimini, finding an underwater block of stacked rocks in the Bermuda Triangle (1977).

The Entertainment Community for everyone with a creative, open, loving, romantic and gloriously stupid heart!-------------------Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels. This episode features meself and Flavour Fred, my wild food pal and collaborater from our forthcoming project The Wild Lunch Podcast, going for a New Year walk up at Devils Dike above Hove. It was a snowy very crisp day and the sloshy snowy paths made it quite an aggy little trek. But we pressed on because, as usual, Fred had a little mission for us to find 'Tree Mallow' so that he could serve me Wild Dolmades at the end of the journey. Yes, that's right, cold meze, in the snow. Lovely stuff. There is about to be much more of this sort of thing when we launch The Wild Lunch Podcast for real in the next few weeks. We are both very excited about it. Especially as we plan our first dining/podcast/music experience in a lovely venue in Brighton. It will be our attempt to capture a live/event podcast version of The Wild Lunch experience, in which Fred will be serving up some of his genius Wild Ingredient recipes, amidst banter and some gentle live music courtesy of Stupid Hearts Club (Oh, that's me isn't it?). Welcome to Stupid Hearts Club. The Entertainment Community for everyone with a creative, open, loving, romantic and gloriously stupid heart!-Hello sodsLike many of us, I have felt totally rinsed by this year as it winds down, even though it has been largely brilliant for me. The creeping winter and some personal shit has really done a number on me this last few weeks and I have not been at all productive. That's what this episode is about in a way, trying to get my head round a bit of a dip in mood and find my way back to the energy that I need to make 2025 a belter.I quite like this idea of kind of taking you guys with me when I'm podding so that's what I've played with here. I have a little sulk in Linda the van, then pep myself up round Flavour Freds house, and end up twatted in a pub. So let me know how you feel about being in my pocket with me as I gad about. The year ahead will have lots of travel and going places in it, I think it's a nice new layer on things. Anyway, I shall try and hit the ground running and deliver you lot a nice chunk of stuff in the next few weeks.Thank you all SO much for your support. I promise next year will be top value xxxHappy New Year all, on we go!Uncle NicoStupid Hearts Club Forever Baby-------------------If you enjoy what I do and would like to help support all the time and effort I lovingly put into the world of Stupid Hearts Club, which now includes, podcasts, live music events, music collabs and more, then please consider becoming a paid subcriber to my Patreon! Swim Karim presents a compelling case for why the student loan crisis could be the next financial bubble, comparing it to the 2008 recession's housing collapse. Could the same strategy be used for student loans, which would require an estimated $1.6 trillion bailout?- A Nationwide Problem – With 42 million Americans holding student loan debt, we explore why the numbers are climbing and why the issue hasn't gained more traction in current political discussions.- The Nonprofit Angle – Why this crisis isn't just a financial issue but a nonprofit one, too. Send us a textThis entire episode comes with a trigger warning. It is not for the faint of heart. Be warned. For those that are still with me, have you ever heard of spontaneous human combustion? I'd argue one of the most mysterious ways to die, if true, then why does this phenomenon stop and start over the course of a century and a half and then...just...disappear? Let's get into it. Spontaneous Human Combustion 101Let's begin at the beginning. Spontaneous human combustion (SHC) is the idea that a person's body can catch fire without an apparent external source of ignition. The term was coined in the 19th century, and the phenomenon has been debated for centuries. How to Explain Spontaneous Human Combustion, from PS Mag dot comKatie Heaney writes, " While there's no proof that any human being has ever suddenly burst into flames and died, there's also no proof that it hasn't happened."Heaney continues, " At some point in the 15 hours or so prior to the evening of March 26, 1986, a 58-year-old former firefighter named George Mott apparently burst into flames and died. When he was found that night, what remained of him were mostly the ashes on the floor beneath his mattress, which his body had apparently burned through. There was more, but reports vary a little as to what; Wikipedia says they found “an implausibly shrunken skull” (as opposed to the plausible level of shrunkenness, I guess) and a piece of rib cage. Others say it was a shrunken skull and the lower half of his right leg. Either way, the scene found in Mott's Crown Point, New York, apartment was pretty grim.Show Sources and MaterialsSpontaneous human combustion in the 21st Century, PubMedAblaze! by Larry E. Over on Insta, her daily efforts to stay mentally and physically in peak condition are a huge part of her mission at the moment and here she does a pretty good job of inspiring me into 'moving more' even though I am sat in bed with a cold looking like a melted, Jabba the Hut candle as I type this. Welcome to Stupid Hearts Club. The Entertainment Community for everyone with loving, open and gloriously stupid heart!-------------------Heya kids! (Heya Nico!)Today in the conversational gunge tank sees a second pod-visit from my friend, comedy writer and studio format wizard Ali Crockatt. Ali literally DEMANDED for this episode to happen at 4.30 at my gaff last Friday, like a gangster dropping in to give a lowlife grass one more chance before he cuts him a new face the dirty little ponce. Here we chat about our middling careers in TV comedy, the cerebral magic of 70's culture and then have a half hearted but funny attempt to get deep about the depiction of war in fiction before realising we don't know what we're fucking on about. Something there's not enough of at the moment in my meaningless little opinion. We got drunk after this. Welcome to Stupid Hearts Club. An Entertainment Community for everyone with a creative, open, loving, romantic and gloriously stupid heart!-------------------Hey there my Stupid Hearted angels. This week I offer to you an impassioned, deep and often troubling conversation with a stalwart of the London alternative comedy scene. Promoter, compere and agitator in chief Harry Deansway.Harry has run some of the maddest, grass roots comedy night in London over the last decade and a half maybe and his principles are something that everyone is our community has come across at some point or other, for better or worse. I am never bored when talking to Harry even when I fervently disagree with what he is saying, and I think that overall comedy needs more and not less characters like him around to help nurture the mad shit that can become the most original acts out there. A small warning. There are one or sentiments in here that might not be to everyones tastes, please don't come at me telling me what they are and why they are wrong. I already know lol.Enjoy the chatYour loving podfatherNicolasxStupid Hearts Club Forever Baby-------------------If you enjoy what I do and would like to help support the time and effort I lovingly put into the world of Stupid Hearts Club, which now includes, podcasts, live music events, music collabs and more, then please consider becoming a paid subcriber to my Patreon! Tonight, my special guest is author and researcher Larry Arnold who's here to discuss his book called Ablaze. The book details his research into astonishing cases surrounding people who literally ignited and burned to ashes. Get his book now on Amazon. In this amazing book are hundreds of unbelievable examples of The Fire Within, culled from long-forgotten obscure medical journals and never-before-published interviews with witnesses to the impossible. What is the evidence? How do firemen react to mounds of human ashes found inside unburned buildings, even inside unscorched clothing? Are these merely "smoking mishaps" as coroners claim, or deaths far less easily explained away? Why do facts crying out for answers meet with suppression of evidence; denial; debunking? If no other explanation can resolve these human fireballs, then SHC must be added to the growing catalog of mystery ailments that plague mankind. Thus more questions are raised. Can the human body cremate itself biochemically? Or by its own electrical energy within? Is there a new form of energy (energies) being revealed that may herald limitless non-polluting power? What is the role of geography, quantum physics, and - indeed - human consciousness in outbreaks of SHC Show Us Some Love! Welcome back to another session of the North East Australian Paranormal Society (NEAPS). This week, Charlie and Ben are looking into a phenomenon that has fascinated them both since childhood - Spontaneous Human Combustion (SHC). How do you fix a word that's broken? A word we need when we bump into someone on the street, or break someone's heart. In our increasingly disconnected secular world, “sorry” has been stretched and twisted, and in some cases weaponized. But it's also one of the only ways we have to piece together a sense of shared values and beliefs. Through today's sea of sorry-not-sorries, empty apologies, and just straight up non-apologies, we wonder in this episode from 2018 what it looks like to make amends.
