On the night of February 24th, 1978, five men went missing after attending a basketball game in Chico California. To many, including the authorities, it seemed as if the boys just vanished into thin air. Until that June when a disturbing discovery was made that left more questions than answers. 5 young men from Yuba City, affectionately known as "The boys" by their family, went to a basketball game in Chico, California on February 24, 1978.  This was the last anyone would ever see them again.  Their vehicle was found on a mountain road in Plumas National Park, some 70 miles from Chico and not on the road home to Yuba City.  Sadly, 3 of the 5 guys bodies were located in the forest.  The 4th, Ted Weiher, was located in an encampment trailer approx 20 miles from where the vehicle was located.  Despite having food for over a year in the trailer, it was ruled that Ted had been in the trailer for about 8 weeks before succumbing to hypothermia and starvation.  The 5th man, Gary Mathias, has never been located.   Listen to the facts and our theories on what is known as "American Dyatlov Pass"

All week, Gary Mathias told his mom "We got a big game Saturday, Don't you let me oversleep." He laid his jersey out on his bed then headed out the door to attend a game at Cal State, Chico with four of his best friends. Rather quickly, Jack Madruga's Mercury Montego was found abandoned up a desolate mountain road. The car was perfectly functioning and the boys were missing. Months later, the group of boys were finally found, dead and in different places around the mountain. All but one. To this day, Gary Mathias remains missing. The five men are known collectively as the Yuba County Five, and the incident itself is referred to as the American Dyatlov Pass. On February 24, 1978, Gary Mathias, Jack Huett, William Sterling, Ted Weiher and Jack Madruga left a college basketball game at 10 PM with the intention of driving home to get ready for their own league basketball game the next day. Unfortunately, none of the men arrived at their destination.The car they were driving was found two days after a search was launched, but because of a winter storm hitting the area shortly after, the authorities had to postpone the search. On June 4, 1978, a group of motorcyclists happened upon a ranger cabin that was about twenty miles from the abandoned car, where they discovered the emaciated body of Ted Weiher. The remains of 3 of the other men were discovered shortly after in the surrounding area, but the body of Gary Mathias was never found. The American Dyatlov Pass!!!! Sort of. In 1978 a man name Joe Shones was stranded on the snowy Yuba County mountain pass. Sadly, while Shones was trying to free himself from a snow mound in which found himself stuck, he a heart attack, and had to huddle himself in his vehicle. While waiting in his car he saw two sets of headlights and later a set of people with a baby walking past him. He yelled for them, and no one stopped to help him. Shones survived and managed to make it to the bottom of the mountain on foot. An eight-mile trek. (get this man a drink) He mentioned a vehicle that had been left on the side of the road after he had recovered. Strangely, the same vehicle that belonged “the boys” that had gone missing….
