Together, they unpack the pressing issues facing California today — from rising crime and economic struggles to the urgent need for election integrity and strong leadership. The discussion touches on President Trump's deployment of the National Guard in major cities, the challenges of crime and violence, and the controversy around Sharia law. They also emphasize the importance of securing elections with early voting and paper ballots with serial numbers. Lewis Herms outlines his vision for transforming California as he runs for Governor, with Bruce Poppy and Robert Imbriale joining the conversation to share their perspectives on grassroots solutions, citizen empowerment, and the fight against corruption. The panel explores not just California's challenges, but how bold leadership can spark a movement that inspires the nation.
In Intergroup Conflict, Recategorization, and Identity Construction in Acts: Breaking the Cycle of Slander, Labeling and Violence (Bloomsbury, 2023) Hyun Ho Park employs social identity to create the first thorough analysis via such methodology of Acts 21:17-23:35, which contains one of the fiercest intergroup conflicts in Acts. Park's assessment allows his readers to rethink, reevaluate, and reimagine Jewish-Christian relations; teaches them how to respond to the vicious cycle of slander, labeling, and violence permeating contemporary public and private spheres; and presents a new hermeneutical cycle and describes how readers may apply it to their own sociopolitical contexts. After surveying previous studies of the text, Park first analyses Paul's welcome, questioning, and arrest, and how slandering and labeling make Paul an outsider. Park then describes how, through defending his Jewish identity and the Way, Paul nuances his public image and re-categorizes himself and the Way as part of the people of God. When Paul identifies himself as a Roman and later a Pharisee, Park examines Luke's ambivalent attitude toward Rome and the Pharisees, and assesses how Paul escapes dangerous situations by claiming different social identities at different times. Finally, he discloses the vicious cycle of slander, labeling, and violence not only against the Way but also against the Jews and challenges the discursive process of identity construction through intergroup conflict with an out-group, especially the proximate “Other.” Furthermore, he demonstrates how the relevance of such scholarship is not limited to Lukan studies or even biblical studies in general; the frequent use of slander, labeling, and violence in the politics of the United States and other polarized countries around the globe demands new ways of looking at intergroup relations, and Park's argument meets the needs of those seeking a new perspective on contemporary political discord. Hyun Ho Park is Associate Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Yuba City, California and Editor-in-Chief of the Asian American Theological Forum. Jonathon Lookadoo is Associate Professor at the Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in Seoul, South Korea. While his interests range widely over the world of early Christianity, he is the author of books on the Epistle of Barnabas, Ignatius of Antioch, and the Shepherd of Hermas, including The Christology of Ignatius of Antioch (Cascade, 2023). California Farming Voices: On today's AgNet News Hour, host Nick Papagni and co-host Josh McGill take listeners on a tour of California agriculture, from the dairies of Hanford to the John Deere showroom in Madera. The episode features two in-depth interviews—first with dairy farmer Case Anker, then with Stan Nelson of Midland Tractor—offering a ground-level view of farming challenges and innovations across the Golden State. Anker, a third-generation dairyman, shares how his family's operation balances cow comfort with fluctuating market conditions. From citrus peel feed to molasses treats, he explains that keeping cows cool and stress-free is just as critical as feed quality. While 2024 has brought fair milk and feed prices, Anker notes the dairy business demands resilience—farmers must be ready for both good and bad years, setting aside reserves for leaner times. He encourages consumers to support dairies by buying milk, cheese, pizza, and other dairy products, highlighting the pride and stewardship that comes with caring for animals and the land. The show then shifts north to Madera, where Nelson discusses Midland Tractor's 40-year history serving California growers. With service trucks covering territory from Bakersfield to Yuba City, Midland specializes in providing efficient, cutting-edge John Deere equipment for orchards, vineyards, and specialty crops. Nelson details the growing role of technology in agriculture, from precision spray systems to emerging autonomous tractor solutions. He emphasizes the industry's reliance on water, noting that reliable supply and storage are essential not only for farms but for the many allied businesses that support them. Throughout the episode, Papagni and McGill connect the dots between on-farm realities, supply chain impacts, and the broader ag economy. Whether it's tackling water scarcity, navigating trade tariffs, or adopting new equipment, the conversations underline agriculture's resilience and adaptability. Catch the full interviews with Case Anker and Stan Nelson at AgNetWest.com, and follow AgNet West for more California ag news and stories from the field.

We launched Yelp for Biologicals! Check it out at AgList.com. — Arun Ohri was Tim's pick for 2024 Ag Person of the Year on our annual Acre Awards. Arun Ohri (Arunohri@hotmail.com) is a farmer who owns both Jubilant Earth Nursery and AAA Land Management. He was raised by a family of farmers who grew peaches on 20 acres in Yuba City. Thirty-six years ago, they also planted walnut trees in what Ohri describes as really bad conditions – “muck.” Those trees have since adapted to rough conditions. Ohri stresses these aren't genetically modified trees — they have naturally evolved to be able to thrive in poor soil and Jubilant Earth Nursery now sells them. Ohri says these seeds are hardier and make going organic more easy. On his own 1600-acre farm, he currently grows walnuts and almonds. About 400 acres are organic, and he's working on transitioning the remaining 1,200 acres. Arun has recently scaled his biological product, Worm Fuel, and also has a DTC nut butter company, Amazing Nut Company. — This episode is presented by MyLand. Story One – Footprints in the Snow The Antarctic region is notorious for being as unforgiving as it is beguiling. For those who work there, the psychological dangers associated with their posting can often be more dangerous than any physical hazard. In this chapter, we will examine the fate befalling one such soul. A man who disappeared in May 1965, leaving nothing but a set of footprints in the snow. Story Two – The Boys from Yuba City On a cold evening in February, five young men inexplicably left the safety of their car and struck out into the woods in the dead of night. It would be months before their bodies were found. Known as America's own Dyatlov Pass Incident, we're left wondering what happened to the boys from Yuba City.
