We begin in Japan, a place full of some of the best horror lore ever! Dan has some truly incredible tales this week. Dan begins in 1967, Miami. A souvenir warehouse began witnessing impossible events. Police officers, reporters, and paranormal investigators all saw things they couldn't explain. Many became convinced the disturbances somehow centered around a quiet nineteen-year-old Cuban refugee named Julio Vasquez. After that, we jump ahead nearly a decade and ratchet up the terror. After fleeing Cuba and settling into a cramped Little Havana apartment in the mid-1970s, one Miami family began experiencing strange disturbances that quickly escalated into terror that would soon leave neighbors - and even a local priest - completely horrified. We spend all of our time with Dan in Hawaii this week! We head to the Big Island today for five stories.  Dan's first story is about something creepy that happened in Hilo in 1902 and 1903 primarily. It revolves around the ghost of a murdered man. Then his second is really a collection of four tales known to many who have taken ghost tours in Hilo. Lynze's tales amp up as she goes. Five new tales of horror this week!! The first four are definitely creepy while the last one is a great confirmation tale. What if some demons aren't repelled by scripture but are attracted to it?  After a minor car accident, a husband in suburban Iowa becomes more devout than ever. At first, it feels like some sort of spiritual awakening. But  what if he opened a door that something stepped through. Then,  we head to a small English parish in 2006, when a devoted family allegedly watched their son grow closer to God after a youth retreat. But when he began reciting scripture backwards, praying throughout the night, and knowing things he shouldn't know, his parents began to wonder if his new devotion wasn't directed towards the right deity. It's hard to convict someone of murder without a body. Even if it's plain to everyone with a lick of common sense that the victim is dead and this is the guy who killed her, a prosecutor is wary of going to trial without being able to say with absolute certainty, this person is dead, and we know because we have her body. TCW Podcast Episode 253 - Masanobu Endō   Masanobu Endō is one of Japan's most important game designers, yet remains relatively unknown in the West. Starting from an uncertain role at Namco, he first made his mark by turning Dig Dug play notes into an official strategy booklet, then shifted into programming work where he learned from Namco's maze games, including Pac-Man. Assigned as a programmer on Xevious, he stepped into the lead role when the original planner left, pushing for a coherent world where every enemy and structure had a purpose in a larger mythology. The secrets, patterns, and hidden elements he built into Xevious encouraged dedicated players to map routes, chase glitches, and hunt for new techniques in a way that feels very similar to how modern communities approach speedrunning and score optimization today. Endō then expanded these ideas in The Tower of Druaga, fusing Dungeons and Dragons style dungeon crawling with Babylonian and Sumerian myth, cryptic treasure requirements, and a real ending instead of an endless loop. Astonishing Legends and the Astonishing Dead Letter Office are on pause.

In tonight's dead letter, listener Trevor recounts a bizarre encounter while looking out the window one night. He saw a strange, bald, meditating figure with long pointed ears in his friend's backyard. The figure then opened its eyes, grinned at him with pointed teeth, and hopped away into the woods. Trevor's evening began with taking the psychedelic drug mescaline, but he has some experience with it, and has never experienced something interactive like this. Trevor is plain about the fact that he had been under the influence earlier in the evening, and maybe that's the reason for what he saw, but he does also wonder if the drug lifted a veil to reveal a real being, especially when he connected his story to an older episode of Astonishing Legends where a listener encountered something very similar, while awake and completely sober.
