Does Donald Trump want to hijack a DC municipal golf course from the middle class and hand it over to the rich? That's what critics of his plans for East Potomac Park say — and their suspicions got stronger last weekend, when new renderings emerged that show humble old Hains Point as an elite golf course — with no bike lane, playground, minigolf, or old men fishing, all the stuff that makes the place a part of DC life. The Washington Post's Rick Maese has been covering the story.  Want some more DC news? Then make sure to sign up for our morning newsletter Hey DC. Welcome back to the dark! This week, we are diving into another extended double-feature exploring the ultimate human mystery: what happens when our most fundamental instinct—the drive to survive—completely collapses? We are unpacking two of the most baffling, psychological true crime cases in modern history. Two distinct groups of men, separated by a decade and thousands of miles, who willingly marched into their own bizarre demises, leaving behind evidence that defies all logic and reason.Public Access of this post is available 10:00AM GMT+8 21/03/2026Case File 1: The Lead Masks of Vintém Hill (Brazil, 1966)Two electronic technicians leave their homes, hike up a dense, tropical mountain in tailored suits and waterproof coats, and lie down in the dirt to die. The Artifacts: Resting over their eyes were crude, hand-cut lead masks designed to block intense radiation. The Instructions: In their pocket, a cryptic notebook read: "18:30 swallow capsules, after effect protect metals wait for mask signal." The Anomaly: At the exact time they were scheduled to wait for their "signal," local residents reported a fiercely glowing, orange object hovering silently over the hill. Did they make contact, or was it a fatal miscalculation? Case File 2: The Winter Tomb of Yuba County (California, 1978)Often called the "American Dyatlov Pass," five young men with mild intellectual disabilities vanish on a simple drive home from a college basketball game. The Illogical Escape: They abandoned a perfectly functioning, heated car with plenty of gas to walk 19 miles uphill into a freezing, waist-deep blizzard. The Paradox: Months later, one of the men was discovered starved to death inside a Forest Service trailer. He was wrapped in eight heavy blankets, completely surrounded by a year's worth of military rations and a working propane heater that he refused to use. The Ghost: While four bodies were eventually recovered, Gary Mathias vanished into the High Sierra without a trace. Did an unseen terror chase them into the ice, or were they victims of their own shared paranoia? The Thread That Binds Them: One group died because they believed the universe had something greater waiting for them. The other group died because they were consumed by absolute, blinding terror. In both cases, the logic of the living was replaced by a terrifying alternate reality.I want to hear your theories. Drop a comment below or join the discussion on our social media pages. What do you think the "mask signal" was? And what unseen fear kept the Yuba County Five from opening those cans of food?Turn the lights off, keep your digital footprint secure, and remember... the world is full of ghosts, and not all of them are dead.— The Tale Teller

Note: Sorry for the radio silence! Long story short, the latest MacBook Pro seems to have some kind of line-wide defect. When I first bought it last year, the screen died a day later. And I got another one, and it worked fine for like a year and then about three weeks ago the screen died again. I took it to the Apple Store for a repair, they fixed it, I got it...and the screen died again. And so I had to get it fixed all over again. Unfortunately I opted for the 64gb ram version, which they don't sell in stores. So every time I need it fixed, it takes a week to order in the parts. Needless to say, this has completely made me unable to edit the show or any other videos. But I've got my computer back now and it seems to be going strong, so we'll be back to regular posting.--BACK OUR PATREON!https://bit.ly/deepcutspatreonCHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL!https://bit.ly/mysterytreehouse--If you lived in New York in the '80s or '90s and had a taste for the weird corners of cable television, you might have stumbled upon a public access show called Dirge of the Charlatans. Southampton Town is weighing using its Community Preservation Fund to purchase a Meadow Lane mansion — and the land it sits on — for nearly $26 million. The town would then raze the mansion and remove the accompanying pool to install a new parking lot where town residents could access a stretch of beach in Southampton Village. The property is located next to a Town Trustees 4x4 access road that is popular with beach drivers. Reporter Michael Wright joins the editors on this week's podcast to discuss the motivations behind the purchase.

#386 In this episode, Guy interviewed Jim McCarty, the sole surviving member of the original trio that channeled the famous 'Law of One' series, also known as the Ra Material. Jim shared his journey from living off the grid to becoming part of the Ra contact alongside Don Elkins and Carla Rueckert. The conversation delved into the origins of the Ra Material, the nature of the densities of consciousness, and the spiritual evolution of humanity. Jim elaborated on the pivotal teachings of the Law of One, the history of Ra's interactions with humanity, and the significance of service to others. This episode also covered practical insights into meditation, the balancing of catalysts for spiritual growth, and the transformative power of recognizing the Creator in everyone. About Jim McCarty: Jim McCarty was born on May 10, 1947 in Kearney, Nebraska. After receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and a Masters of Education from the University of Florida, Jim moved to a piece of wilderness in Marion County, Kentucky, in 1974 to build his own log cabin in the woods, and to develop a self-sufficient lifestyle.  There he founded the Rock Creek Research and Development Laboratories in 1977 to further his teaching of the "Brain In Nature Course" that he learned in Colorado in 1972. After meeting Don Elkins and Carla Rueckert in 1979, he joined his research with them in December of 1980. The Ra contact began three weeks later, and the legal entity that we are today comes from this joining of Jim's non-profit charity, The Rock Creek Research and Development Laboratories, with L/L Research in 1982. We use Rock Creek as our legal name, and do business as L/L Research.  Jim and Carla were married in 1987. Jim writes a daily blog called the Camelot Journal that Carla began in 2005. He is currently writing Living the Law of One 102: The Outer Work in 2021 and Living the Law of One 103: The Inner Work in 2022, both from Carla's outlines. He also creates wonderful flower gardens and stonework. He enjoys beauty, nature, dance, and meditation. It is extremely difficult to hear but their families insisted the world know the truth because only by understanding the full horror can we appreciate why justice mattered so much.In memory of Channon and Chris, whose families demanded the truth be told.Support ResourcesFor Survivors of Violence:https://www.rainn.org/ - RAINN (1-800-656-4673)https://www.thehotline.org/ - National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233)https://www.crisistextline.org/ - Crisis Text Line (Text HOME to 741741)https://988lifeline.org/ - 988 Suicide & Crisis LifelineFor Families of Murder Victims:https://www.pomc.org/ - Parents of Murdered Childrenhttps://victimsofcrime.org/ - National Center for Victims of Crimehttps://www.ncvc.org/ - National Crime Victim Law InstituteSources:https://www.newspapers.com/ (Historical archive - subscription required)https://www.knoxnews.com/ (Search "Christian Newsom" for extensive archive)https://abcnews.go.com/ (Search "Channon Christian")https://www.cnn.com/ (Coverage of trials and scandal)https://www.foxnews.com/ (Michelle Malkin coverage 2007)https://www.wbir.com/ (WBIR-TV extensive trial coverage)https://www.wate.com/ (WATE 6 On Your Side)https://www.wvlt.tv/ (WVLT Local 8 News)https://www.tncourts.gov/ (Tennessee State Courts)https://www.tsc.state.tn.us/ (Tennessee Supreme Court opinions)https://www.knoxcounty.org/criminal/ (Knox County Criminal Court)https://law.justia.com/cases/tennessee/ (Tennessee case law database)https://scholar.google.com/ (Search: "State v. On January 6, 2007, Channon Christian (21) and Christopher Newsom (23) went on a date. They were young, in love, and planning to attend a friend's birthday party. They never arrived. What happened to Channon and Chris over the next 36 hours is known as one of the most brutal crime sprees in Tennessee history. But before we discuss the horror, we need to know who they were, the real people behind the headlines, the beloved children whose families would spend 18 years fighting for justice. This four-part series tells their complete story: the victims, the crimes, the trials, the judicial scandal that forced retrials, and the lasting legacy. In this episode, let's learn who Channon Gail Christian and Hugh Christopher Newsom Jr. were. Not as victims, but as the vibrant, beautiful people they were.Support ResourcesFor Survivors of Violence:https://www.rainn.org/ - RAINN (1-800-656-4673)https://www.thehotline.org/ - National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233)https://www.crisistextline.org/ - Crisis Text Line (Text HOME to 741741)https://988lifeline.org/ - 988 Suicide & Crisis LifelineFor Families of Murder Victims:https://www.pomc.org/ - Parents of Murdered Childrenhttps://victimsofcrime.org/ - National Center for Victims of Crimehttps://www.ncvc.org/ - National Crime Victim Law InstituteSources:https://www.newspapers.com/ (Historical archive - subscription required)https://www.knoxnews.com/ (Search "Christian Newsom" for extensive archive)https://abcnews.go.com/ (Search "Channon Christian")https://www.cnn.com/ (Coverage of trials and scandal)https://www.foxnews.com/ (Michelle Malkin coverage 2007)https://www.wbir.com/ (WBIR-TV extensive trial coverage)https://www.wate.com/ (WATE 6 On Your Side)https://www.wvlt.tv/ (WVLT Local 8 News)https://www.tncourts.gov/ (Tennessee State Courts)https://www.tsc.state.tn.us/ (Tennessee Supreme Court opinions)https://www.knoxcounty.org/criminal/ (Knox County Criminal Court)https://law.justia.com/cases/tennessee/ (Tennessee case law database)https://scholar.google.com/ (Search: "State v. Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People

A grassroots journalist calling in mid-haircut connects with Gethard over a shared love for community media. Together, they break down why public access matters now more than ever: how local TV and community-powered news can connect neighbors, build trust where traditional media has fallen short and, most importantly, help people tell their own stories. They swap favorite public access oddities (including a cat-costume cuddle show) and Geth shares how his own public access days somehow ended up tied to a Supreme Court case. The world is far more peculiar than most of us dare to admit. Somewhere between a demolition derby and a wrestling ring, between the crackle of VHS tapes and the shriek of late-night public access, lies a man who has turned mayhem into meaning. On today's episode, we welcome the unparalleled and unfiltered Mad Man Pondo, a professional wrestler and author whose life has been a whirlwind of body slams, topless TV hosts, and late-night green room oddities. With a voice still rough from last night's match, he guides us into a tale of chaos, tenacity, and triumph.Mad Man Pondo—real name Kevin Canady—is not merely a character in the ring. He is a living mosaic of outrageous stories and unshakable spirit.Raised in a reserved household, he found himself drawn to the fever-pitched passion of pro wrestling his grandparents once yelled at on their living room TV. That early spark lit a fire, and he never let it go out. As he says in this episode, “My mom still has the paper I filled out in grade school that said I wanted to be a professional wrestler.” That dream, written in crayon, would become a 30-year odyssey through blood, barbed wire, and blinding spotlights. The journey to the ring was not paved with ease. Pondo describes the brutal, often humiliating, early days of wrestling school—the beatings, the busted lips, the sheer will required to prove he belonged. He tells of how many walked away, unwilling to endure it, while he pressed on. That kind of devotion would become his defining trait. When the legendary Abdullah the Butcher told him he had the talent to wrestle in Japan, Pondo drove through the night, edited his best matches on two old VCRs, and mailed the tape by sunrise. The result? Forty-three trips to the Land of the Rising Sun.But Pondo's life wasn't confined to the ring. Ever curious, ever mischievous, he created “Skull Talk,” a public access show featuring wrestling commentary and, yes, topless women sitting on his lap.Equal parts performance art and rebellion, the show sandwiched between two church broadcasts caused outrage and fandom in equal measure. “One preacher would send me scripture every week,” he laughs. “But I knew he watched every episode.” This was Pondo in his purest form—pushing boundaries, dancing at the edge of decency, and always keeping his audience on their toes. What's perhaps most impressive is his ability to weave these escapades into something strangely noble. Whether talking about riding shotgun in a demolition derby car painted with horror icons or booking outrageous guests for the Jerry Springer Show, there's a heart beneath the madness. His creation of “Girl Fight,” an all-women's wrestling promotion, is a testament to his desire to give others a platform, to share the stage, to pass the torch. He's not just fighting for himself anymore—he's built a ring where others can rise too.And then there's the book, Memoirs of a Mad Man, a wild ride through his memories, filled with stories that make you laugh, cringe, and occasionally tear up. One story he held secret for decades—a deeply personal moment with wrestling legend Junkyard Dog—was finally shared in its pages. “I thought, you know what, let's put this in there,” he says. “It was time.” In telling that story, and many others, he transformed scars into stories and chaos into legacy.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

Sure, you know the "usual suspects" when it comes to publicly-accessible ground ... walk-in, forest service, BLM. But there are dozens of other patches of real estate managed by nameless, faceless agencies on our behalf, and many are open to hunting. I'll tell a few hunting stories that took place on some of these lesser-known parcels, and provide you with a shopping list of others you might explore. There's also a step-by-step approach to finding more. I'll also suggest some information sources you may not have thought about that may be the key to incredible public-land hunting. Some people are saying it was a stunt and she's still alive. Beavis & Butthead learn how to take advantage of their white privilege. Public Access prank calls are sorely missed. Andy Green from Dave & Chuck has left the building. Sheila Smith was a WRIF staple back in the day. She was the glue that kept the building together and she needs some help. She's going through some tough times. Let's show her how great this audience is. Chris Brown has been arrested in the UK for an assault that occurred two years ago. Something must not be right as he never does anything wrong. Diddy has nothing on Tootsie Rolls. He's been accused of another rape and the description of his penis is less than flattering. New Bonerline action. Did Jenny die of AIDS in Forrest Gump? YES Is Haley Joel Osment Forrest's kid in the movie? YES Billy Jack Goes to Washington...And fights...With no shoes... Jim's Picks: Top 10 Motown Songs. We FINALLY get a hold of Tom Mazawey. He "lost track of time" while getting the pool ready. We have fun with the Detroit Lions schedule. The Detroit Tigers are rolling. See ya, Tom! Breaking News: Tommy Lee is allegedly single. Michael Strahan is THE WORST! He interviewed Ana de Armas and put everyone to sleep.
