It's been three months since I released the limited cassette version of this and so I wanted to share the full version now that the cassettes are mostly sold out (a few still remain - djianhead.bandcamp.com) - hope folks dig it. The full story is on the Bandcamp page but I made this breaks mix to submit to Wax Poetics, who rejected it so I figured I'd put it out myself as a fundraiser for Palestine and abolitionist organizations in the U.S. Over $500 was raised in support! Thanks to everyone who supported then and now. And thanks to the legends whose voices appear on this mix.

We premiere new music from New York natives Avision & Xander as they team up for the ‘Whatever' EP, a project which has been five years in the making. We premiere the Breaks Mix, a vintage electro-cut that leans on funked-up snare rolls, booming 808's and a slick vocal hook that catches the groove right from the source. Following Victor Calderone's relaunch of MATTER+ Recordings alongside Avision, the releases have continued to amaze, with the latest offering seeing Avision team up with fellow New Yorker Xander to piece together an exploratory project they began half a decade ago. “Whatever” defies expectations by delving into his multifaceted understanding of captivating electronic dance genres to create three individually head-turning dancefloor cuts alongside Xander that showcase an innate wealth of creativity between the pair. “Working with Xander has been amazing. I remember he sent me the first draft of “Whatever” about five years ago. I knew this record needed something; the vocal was super catchy, so I asked him to send me the parts. From there on, we sent projects back and forth and wrote three different cuts of the record that can be played at different parts of the night. I'm really ecstatic about all three versions and watching the reactions on the dance floor has been amazing.” – Avision. We premiere the ‘Breaks Mix' a murky Miami bass groove that rides through chunky two-step drums and growling synth cuts. The vocal tucks in and out of the pounding electro rhythm, making this one a DJ's delight. The pair keep it hot and rolling while also serving up some teeth-grinding breakdowns, making it a memorable finale to a juggernaut of an EP. A little out of my comfort zone I was asked to play a chill out set at Bay Bar in Ibiza. The music policy was house music, 'house music Mike, no chilled dubstep or liquid drum & bass, house music Mike!!'. He didn't say I couldn't play breaks so...This is my "Chill & Breaks" mix or "Bass & Chill" mix, not sure which one is better.Originally I was going to play this set at Bar Bay on the seafront of San Antonio however due to various reasons the venue wasn't ready to open. Which was a real shame, as I would have been the opening set on the opening day of the season. So this is the set I had planned, put together at home on Ableton. Grab a can of cocktail, get the deck chair out in the garden and imagine an Ibizan sunset. Shouts to Jay, Jethro and James (aka Triple J) who were meant to be on the line up with me.
