Starlight Thursdays Episode 265 featuring Party Robbins recorded live at Missoula Fashion Week block party. Who better to kick off the event than this man! I had the privilege of putting together the lineup and thought If Party Robbins would do the honor of opening it up and setting the vibe we'd be stoked to have him. He brought some funky house, minimal and techno to the sound system and the party began to form with hula hoops and flow dancers mesmerized by the beats under the sunshine. This was also the debut of our project Disco Carrot as a stage. We recently decked out a snowcat with speakers and a DJ booth to bring to events and fashion week turned out to be a perfect maiden voyage. We're really grateful Party Robbins christened the decks and played a fantastic set. Hope you enjoy!!! BK Love It was such an honor to play the inaugural Block Party set for Missoula Fashion Week! I knew I had to put together something really special for this set, as this was a lot of firsts for our local art community. It's a lot more laid back and groovy than my typical mix, but I kept just enough juice in it to keep you moving for the whole two hours. I hope you enjoy every one of these grooves! -Jack- aka Party Robbins. Starlight Thursdays Episode 264 Featuring Crank Zappa – Live at Funk It Coffee & Thrift The Night Shift dance party series has been an absolute thrill. It feels like a mini renaissance blooming on Missoula's north side. With no alcohol in the mix, the vibe naturally offers an alternative to the typical bar scene—and for many, it's the perfect warm-up before heading out to the clubs. I've been curating DJs who can keep it funky, deep, melodic, and housey—and Crank Zappa fits the bill to a T. His set moves effortlessly between Disco and Indie Dance, weaving in soulful vocals, big instrumental moments, and even a touch of techno. He was absolutely on fire during this recording, keeping the room grooving from start to finish. -BK Love-
Starlight Thursdays Episode 263 featuring a live recording from Star Garden 2025 of the one and only Sticky People I haven't really produced much house. Really only 2 or 3 tracks. But when Starlight looped me in to be involved in their New Years Eve celebration, I knew that I needed to pull off a house set. So each weekend leading up to the party, I sat down and banged out a beat or two. I started sampling vocals and strings and some synthy pads from my vinyl, my phone, and from this pile of ¼” tape that I scored with a reel to reel machine from a pawn shop earlier this year. Someone recorded a radio station way back in what must have been the 60s or 70s on these tapes. So listening to them has been a trip and thrown lots of fun sampling my way The vocal samples include, and might not be limited to: Erykah Badu, Gladys Horton, Joe Biden, Lady Pajama. The instrumental samples include: Madonna, KOYN Billings. Once the beats were assembled, I jammed keyboards with them, figuring out chord progressions that I liked. I'd record anything that I liked and then during the week leading up to the party, I listened back on the recordings to choose the beat/chords combos that I liked the best. From there, it was a matter of writing down the chords on a notepad and jamming it out live on New Years Eve! So much thanks to Starlight Reunion for having me! It was a blast! Starlight Thursdays Episode 262 featuring BK Love live at The Badlander What a night to remember! This was my first time playing The Badlander—a place I've danced at countless times, always dreaming of being behind the decks. Huge thanks to Pinedrops for inviting me to play the opening night of his new residency. We found a sweet synergy between our styles and kept the energy high all night long—blending Deep House, Afro grooves, Disco, and the Latin horn-and-percussion-filled tracks I've been obsessed with lately. It was one of those sets that felt like a full circle moment. Much love to everyone who came out and danced with us! BK Love
Starlight Thursdays Episode 261 featuring Mixtress Pendula. It is springtime. Time for New beginnings: we've passed the vernal equinox. I wanted to give you about an hour, maybe a little more, of some high energy neurofunk drum and bass. This mix was a lot of fun to make. It's got some good energy. And I hope that the humor that runs underneath it is obvious. If nothing else it's a good something to get you going in your moves outdoors enjoying this new season. Hope to see all of you somewhere outside at a venue this summer. And in the interim I'm frequently on Twitch as well. But I hope this mix puts a little pep in your step. Mixtress Pendula
Starlight Thursdays – Episode 260 This episode marks the 5-year anniversary of the mix series! To celebrate, we have something truly special: a guest mix from Carr Tell, inspired by the “Made in Montana” mixes I used to release on past anniversaries. This concept brings together tracks exclusively from Montana-based producers, curated and mixed into a single cohesive experience. I'm beyond thrilled to have Carr pick up where I left off with the project—it's a powerful full-circle moment. There's something magical about this kind of collaboration. Artists get to hear their music performed by another artist, often in ways they hadn't imagined. It can be eye-opening. And for our community, it's a chance to hear what I believe is the true sound of the Montana underground—a sound that may be subtle and nuanced, but deeply worth celebrating. For the DJ, it's no easy task. You're working with genres and styles you might not usually play, trying to piece them together like a jigsaw puzzle without the picture on the box. But that challenge can be transformational. Personally, this process gave me a deeper connection to every artist who contributed. I wanted to honor their work—I didn't want to let them down. Now, here we are: 260 mixes and 5 years in. We've hit over 52,000 streams, with listeners on every continent and in every state. What began as a way to stay connected during the pandemic has become something much more. We recently celebrated our 100th artist featured on the series. With live recordings from Montana festivals, club nights, house parties, and parades—across venues statewide—this archive includes everything from debut mixes to all-vinyl sets and original live performances. I can't express how grateful I am for the effort so many artists have put into this, and to our listeners: thank you for trusting us with your ears and making us feel heard. This has been a truly priceless experience. — BK Love Carr Tell: “One thing I've always loved about the Thursday mixes is how they give everyone a chance to be heard. Montana producers really showed up for this one. I'm never surprised—but I'm always impressed—by the talent this state holds! While this was a challenging mix, I loved every minute of it, weaving together multiple genres and BPMs into a story only Carr could Tell.” Track list Seas To The Sky - The Other Side Of Dawn Implied Lines - Ninteneaux Star Map - Lab Grade Talking Bout A Revolution - Tracy Chapman - Taboh Edit It Never Entered My Mind - Miles Davis - Tessub Edit Trippin - Ninteneaux Check Yo - Carr Tell Cellar Dweller - Hex and Hive SDB - Party Robbins Thought Shit - Quadratic Spheres Come Play with Us - Carr Tell First Hex - Hex and Hive Susie Q - CCR - Party Robbins Bootleg Unreleased - SHBASS Good Company - The Montana Boy Welcome To The Shit Show - Tessub Color Of Everything - Taboh Out Of This World - Gruv42 and Shane Dee Make Them Make Us - Shane Dee Fake I.D. - Rave Edit - DC CHI3F I.T.G.I.R.L. - Rave Edit - DC CHI3F
Starlight Thursdays Episode 259 featuring Party Robbins This week on Starlight Thursdays, we welcome back Party Robbins for another unforgettable ride through the rhythmic cosmos. Known for weaving energy, intention, and joy into every set, Party Robbins delivers a mix that builds with purpose, layering textures and tempo as it dives deeper into the groove. Whether you're dancing in your kitchen, sweating it out at the gym, or cruising under the stars, this one's built to move your body and soul. – BK Love – Howdy! I'm back again with a new mix that has one simple goal: make you move. Not one to be coy, I make my intentions known from the first track and keep the beats banging. This 45-minute dance party features some deep cuts and classic house remixes, getting deeper with every beat. Have fun and be safe
Starlight Thursdays Episode 258: Featuring Mimsy In this episode, we rewind to the electric energy of Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the one and only Club Zebra. This night marked the launch of Mimsy's bold new queer-focused party series titled “Category Is:”—a space carved out for radical self-expression, vibrant community, and unapologetic sound. For this debut edition, the Category Is: Bass, Techno, and Midtempo—and the floor was on fire from start to finish. The lineup was stacked with a dynamic range of DJs, each bringing their own flavor to the mix—from grinding midtempo grooves and driving techno rhythms to face-melting dubstep drops and deep, sub-heavy basslines that rattled the walls and shook the soul. Mimsy got on the decks with a fierce and unforgettable set, weaving glitchy textures, haunting melodies, and chest-thumping low-end into a high-octane journey that had the whole room locked in. The crowd was a beautiful mix of familiar faces and new friends, all moving as one under the strobes and lights, surrendering to the pulse of the music. It was more than a party—it was a statement, a celebration, and a damn good time. For more Mimsy check out https://on.soundcloud.com/ZgamdfxX4fErMPtp9
Starlight Thursdays Episode 257 Welcome MONUMENT to the series! Let's get a. Deeper look into this talented artist behind the mix with a short interview. How long have you been DJing? About 2 years Why did you get into it? I've been playing music and producing electronic music for many years, but only went to my first rave about 3 years ago and absolutely got hooked on house and techno. What events have you played? Pride and other events with Auntie E, RENDEZVOUS with 98 ROMANTIQUE, Daisy Chain Halloween with STICKSNSTONES and 98 Romantique, various other deep woods raves and parties around the Pacific Northwest. Where do you live (generally)? The Mission Valley, MT Where are you from originally? Born and raised here in MT, though i've lived all over. What inspires you to DJ? Nothing feels more beautiful to me than a room full of people dancing as hard as they possibly can- I jump at any chance i can find to contribute to what i think is a genuine biological, emotional, social, spiritual necessity. My goal in my sets is to get people out of their heads and into their emotional and physical bodies- to that end i tend to play fairly ecstatic, positive stuff most of time. What inspires you about electronic music culture? While every scene has its flaws, i do find EDM to be maximally inclusive, positive, and generative. What genres are in your mix? I'm not huge on knowing/understanding genre- what i know i respond to most are the torchy vocals of house, drums with a lot of low end and clatter, the textures of acid house, afrobeat, cumbia, baile funk, chicago and detroit house, and propulsive beats. Everything is permitted. A few words about your mix? This mix is basically a distillation of everything i've absorbed in the last year or so- still so much to discover and be inspired by! Who are some of the artists in your mix? Kerri Chandler, Dam Swindle, Leon Vynehall, Cinthie, bress underground, Voyeur For more MONUMENT check out https://soundcloud.com/jahsafe
Starlight Thursdays Episode 256 featuring Quadratic Spheres in his “Burning Psytrance CDs” mix. Although most DJs aren't spinning CDs these days—hell, most don't even own CDs, let alone the gear to mix them. Well, Quadratic Spheres isn't like most DJs. He embraces the old school and the nostalgia, digging into the tactile roots of the craft with a deep appreciation for sound, format, and flow. This mix is a trip, relentless, hypnotic. Psytrance in its purest, blazing through time and space like a smoked out rave spaceship with cracked vape cases rattling on the dash. There's something beautiful about hearing music that wasn't just selected, but summoned. The mix pulses with intention, layering cosmic frequencies and acid etched textures that transport you far beyond the club. Quadratic Spheres doesn't just play tracks, he conducts a séance with the past, channeling the chaotic spirit of DIY raves and basement parties where lasers met sweat and the music never lets up. This is trance for heads who remember what it felt like to burn their favorite mix onto a blank disc, scribble a Sharpie title and hand it off to a close friend. So whether you're deep in the woods, on a long night drive, or just looking to fry your third eye for a while, press play. The past is alive and it's still kicking 4 to the floor.
What a wonderful Afternoon! The coffee was fresh, the dancers well rested, the sun was shining, the disco tiles were shimmering and dancing right along with us in the first installment of Morning Blend at Funk It Coffee and Thrift! I love a sober day party. I love the energy people bring, and I love that we all carry that energy throughout the rest of our day. I feel more free to select tunes I might not normally play in a dark club at 1am, and thus more free to express myself. I'm truly honored to take part in the Morning Blend series, and I hope to participate again in the absolute magic that Funk It sets in their space. -- MumbleBee Track List Hello - Axel Boman Independant Dancer - Kalabrese How RU Plush - D. Starlight Thursdays Episode 254 featuring a live recording of BK Love performing at The Top Hat. This was my first time DJing at this legendary venue—a place where I've danced to countless shows over the years and always dreamed of being on that stage. Getting to open the night for Chase Bjornson and Kapture was an absolute honor and a ton of fun. This mix dives deep into the style I've been curating lately—maybe I should call it the Jungle Boogie vibe. With our long, cold winters in western Montana, I find it essential to bring some sunshine into the dark season. Lately, nothing has been moving me like hand drums, brass horns, and catchy melodies—sounds that transport us thousands of miles from our mountain paradise into the depths of the jungle. Latin, Afro, and tropical rhythms have been my biggest inspirations, and this mix is a reflection of that energy. Many DJs describe their sets as a journey, and this is no different—but this isn't just any journey. This is a first-class ride to some of the most remote places on Earth, where music has ancient roots and sound is a living, breathing spirit. To fully absorb what this mix has to offer, you'll need to step slightly outside your comfort zone. Safety is only an illusion in the jungle. This is an adventure, and when you return, you won't be the same. I'll be your guide. Together, we dance—with courage in our hearts and pride in our people. - BK Love - For more BK Love, come to the Zebra Bozeman 2/28/25 for a live DJ set, or check out this playlist with more live recordings taken from music festivals to club nights https://on.soundcloud.com/jQixWxMY79oNSeAN7
Starlight Thursdays Episode 253 Featuring kaPOWski. My set was recorded live @ Burning Man 2024 on the Coat Check mutant vehicle. Rolling out from the Center Camp area shortly after dark Tuesday night, I had my small controller and a laptop perched precariously on a rickety folding table two stories up. The vehicle was full of friends, with more following on bicycles (and even a golf cart!) weaving behind us like a school of neon fish. We laughed at the inanity of it all and stopped at some cool art pieces to let people mingle and dance in the desert for a moment before loading up again and cruising on. It was definitely a peak experience for me. I really just wanted to have fun with it, playing some techy and bassy house with lots of super fun stutter vocals and acid notes. I'm positive that many of these songs will remind me of this night for the rest of my life! For more kaPOWski check out https://on.soundcloud.com/vcZ81A8uKbAjy5X48
Starlight Thursdays Episode 252 Featuring a live recording of Pandaura performing at our 2025 New Years celebration “Star Garden” NYE this year for me was all about the melding of the new with the classic. The party itself was a collaboration between the new sound crew on the block Backwoods Beats and longtime Missoula sound crew Starlight (inside)/Ghetto Gypsy (outside). My mix is a lot of contemporary disco and some more disco-y house. There's been a small resurgence of the disco sound but with modern production techniques in the last few years, and it was a pleasure seeing people enjoy the real instruments and groovy vocals that populate this music. Big thanks to everyone who made that night so special: dancers, DJs, fire spinners, visual artists, food/drink vendors, etc. etc. I love this community and wouldn't be here today without it. Please look out for one another, we'll make it through together. -Pandaura- Be sure to catch Pandaura live in Missoula 3/1/25 12-3pm at our latest collaboration with Funk It
Starlight Thursdays Episode 251, Welcome FOUTS to the series! We did a little interview to get better acquainted. How long have you been DJing? I began mixing in fall of 2023 and performed for others for the first time during New Years at the end of that year. Why did you get into it? My partner, kaPOWski, is a DJ. I have always been a music nerd, and watching over their shoulder I couldn't help but be intrigued. I have such a specific memory of a night that some friends and I spent up at Hyalite, where we dragged all of the sound equipment up to one of the forest service cabins. That is the first time I remember actually trying to mix. It was fast-paced and exciting and such an alluring combination of feeling the music and paying attention to the more technical aspects of the rhythms. I was hooked. Starting to DJ also felt like the natural next step as I consumed more live-mixed music at events and started being able to recognize artists by their sound. I couldn't not try it for myself. I feel so much more connected to tracks that I love when I get to mix them myself. What events have you played? I have mostly played at Burning Man and regional burns, with some local community events thrown in. It was an honor to be asked to play the first Sound Haven event in Helena this past November—the queer dance party initiative put together by Hnnh Beets, among others. Where do you live ? Bozeman, MT Where are you from originally? I was born in Maine and lived there until I was 14. I then lived in Miami, FL until I graduated high school. What inspires you to DJ? I spend a lot of time listening to sets by my favorite producers and DJs. Oftentimes this is background music for me, but I love that moment of becoming instantly aware when a track comes on that I connect with. The Shazam comes out and I add it to my giant playlist of tracks that I might download and play in the future. Going through this curated list, I love being able to vividly remember the first time I heard the song. When music moves me like that, I want to get my hands on it, connecting the waveform on the deck to the narrative structure of the track, feeling out where I can play with effects and make transitions. It is an intensely satisfying process for me from start to finish. What inspires you about electronic music culture? I am deeply inspired by the origins of this music. From Chicago's underground warehouse scene where pioneering black artists inspired by disco started mixing old standards and creating electronic tracks, house music has always been a refuge for those not accepted by mainstream society to come together and dance. Queer and black joy is inherently embedded in this culture. Initiatives like FEMME HOUSE and Beatport's 2020 Pride series continue to do the work to elevate voices that are unfortunately not yet centralized in the zeitgeist. Anytime I am on stage, I feel honored to be a tiny part of this work—to show up exactly the way that I am and to be able to move those listening along with me. What genres are in your mix? Mostly progressive house with a bit of techno and tech house thrown in. Can you tell us a few words about your mix? I really wanted to create a good work mix for my friends—something to bounce to at a desk during those long hours. I was able to work in some tracks that I love but struggle to play for a dance party with those long bridges. I really enjoy the combination of the melodic aspects of this set alongside driving beats and unexpected noise elements. Anything else you want us to know? I am continually uplifted by the acceptance and love I have found among the community of Montana DJs. I love how many of us are queer and femme and continuing to push the envelope in the way we show up. It has been so rewarding to learn and be encouraged by my peers on this journey! Starlight Thursdays Episode 250. Take a ride with Pinedrops down a deep dark rabbit hole, unearthing heady rhythms from the realms of electro, jungle, and left-field bass. Clubby beats and introspective moments are neither few nor far between in this mix. Recorded live on 12/21/24, in a Pinedrops x Backwoods Beats-curated event featuring two of Pinedrops' favorite Montana-based DJs, HNNH and PandAura. It was a night to remember, Hope you enjoy! Starlight Thursdays Episode 249 Welcome Suka to the series! We did a little interview to get a glimpse behind the scenes and better acquainted. When did you get into DJing? I started off practicing and messing around with it when i was 18-20. The last two years I've focused on professional shows and playing residencies. Why did you get into it? I fell in love with it at a young age when my cousin was djing in new york city. The festival scene was always something amazing to me. Seeing so many people come together and share music. What events have you played? I've Preformed in Missoula Pride 2025, Maggot Fest the last two years, headlined at Tipsup, Big Sky, I've had the pleasure to open for Nostalgix, Luci, SoDown, Pushloop, Maddy O'Neal and provide direct support for Mr.Bill. It's been a wild journey. Where are you from? New Jersey/ NYC but currently in the University district, Missoula What inspires you to DJ? The way I connect with music is like no other, it takes me away from day to day anxieties, and brings me to a reality i never want to leave. Especially when I am able to make a connection with a room full of people and have a moment where we are one, seeing smiles, laughter and dancing is something i never want to be without. What inspires you about electronic music culture? I think for me it's how exciting and diverse the electronic music culture can be, an area that continues to grow and theres no stopping it. Can you tell us few words about this mix? It's a blend of some saucy bass and tech beats recorded on NYE. I went on the decks at 1am, the energy of the room was good and we all just danced together to house music. I played tracks from GENESI, Simon Kidzoo, Matt Sassari, Biscits and Joshwa to name a few. Super fun. Really appreciated ringing in the new year with our community in such a high energy way. We Loved having Suka join us at NYE Star Garden and exited to share the recording of this joyous celebration that takes us back to that unforgettable night. Hope you enjoy! Starlight Thursdays episode 248 featuring a live recording of GETDOWN from Star Garden NYE 2025. This was one to remember, GETDOWN went on the decks at midnight performing the first set of 2025. He brought House and Techno into the forefront of our lives on the dance floor and our bodies obliged. This mix deliverers forward driving bass lines, deep rhythms and a steady kick as GETDOWN blends the minimal ethereal melodies on the surface of Techno with the funky force that is House. He still holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite DJs in the scene and close friends. Time and time again I'm reminded just how hard he delivers with his selection of underground music and prowess behind the decks. -BK Love-
Starlight Thursdays Episode 247 featuring BK Love Recorded live at Star Garden New Year's Eve 2025. I went on at 4am. There's something about the late night early morning sets that I find special. The mood is already well set and pressure of peak time has past. More often than not people just wanna keep going. We had a good dance floor bumping when I got on. Within the first few tracks a konga line formed and I was like “oh hell yeah, it's on!” I kept the system bumping till nearly 6. Playing Afro House, some deeper stuff and a bit of Techno. Having 4 cdjs setup was fantastic and allowed me to play more tracks simultaneously, loop and layer sounds and overall get really lost in the music. This is one I'll remember forever. I felt so locked in and connected with the dance floor. Really appreciate all the people that stayed up late and got down, also incredibly grateful for the Starlight Reunion team and all the hard work they put in to make the celebration shine bright. -BK Love-
Starlight Thursdays Episode 246 Welcome SiG to the series. What a pleasure it was to bring SiG out for NYE. This live recording of his set Is a refreshing sound not often heard in our region. Filled with melodic techno, beautiful base lines and uplifting vibes. Sig currently resides in his home town of Great Falls MT, but is very well traveled and drew a lot of his DJing influence from his time spent living in Brooklyn. He's obsessed with sound system culture, and dives deep into signal path. Especially important when you own a sound system like the one he brought out for this NYE gathering. It was an absolute gift for our DJs and dancers to play on a high fidelity system. I personally think it's up there with the top speakers in our state. If you're wondering what they were check out KV2 sound and stay tuned for the next time they get setup. - BK Love -
Starlight Thursdays Episode 235. MumbleBee is back with the bass. They have been sharing their sound as a dj/producer for the past 4 years. 3 of which have been closely with Starlight Reunion. They've become an integral part of our collective both as a DJ and powerhouse of behind the scenes skills they preform to help make these magical dance party moments happen. I'm forever grateful for my friendship with them, my time side by side in the dj booth and in our organization's meetings. This year alone they have performed the SLR Takeover in Big Sky MT, SLR Takeover in Tulum, Mexico, Burning Man ( Camp Funky Town and Unitopia), Montopia (Montana's unofficial BM Regional and on the air live at KFGM with. I'm so happy to share another of their amazing mixes, I know you'll enjoy. -BK Love- I was feeling inspired after hangout out with my friends, so I hopped behind my decks and threw some sounds together to see what would happen. I put together some Bass Music, Indie Pop, and Assorted Electronica. There's a track from Grace Ives, Holy heck am I obsessed with her right now! For the most part I'm mixing and matching sounds that I love. Like an unhinged chemist on some kind of all night bender. -MumbleBee- You'll be able to catch them live at our NYE Celebration in Missoula. Starlight Thursdays episode 243 Welcome SANDRO to the series. He's been performing as a DJ for the past 3 years. Born in Venezuela, he fell in love with music at a young age and took to mixing in his home town at Events and private parties. Now living in Montana SANDRO is bringing a certain flavor of House accented with Latin sounds not often heard in this region. I'm personally excited to check out his next live set. -BK Love- Why do you DJ? I like to make people feel the music in their body. What inspires you about electronic music culture? I like that I always get new sounds and it's never the same and that all its people are united. A few words about your mix? it is a mix between minimalism and groove. Consisting of tracks from Alberto Dimeo and Andre Butano to name a few. For more SANDRO check out https://on.soundcloud.com/ENmvNy8hpkCtDVhA7

Starlight Thursdays Episode 241 Featuring Gruv42. This mix is a combination of original tunes, remixes, collabs and bootlegs that I've been working on over the past year. Lots of these tunes have vocals that I love to sing along with (probably badly) while I play. Some have been released, some will be released soon and the bootlegs will never be released, but if you ask me, I'll probably give them to you. I hope you enjoy this mix and find a tune or two in here to sing along to! - Gruv42 - Tracklist: Just Breathe (2am) - (Bootleg - original by Anna Nalick) Feel It (Club mix) Halcyon/Fine Day/Leave It - (Bootleg - with Justin Johnson) Ray - The Placenta (Remix) We Make The Bass Shake Give Me A Break Inner City Life (Bootleg - original by Goldie, Rabbit In The Moon mix) Caroline (Unofficial Remix - Original by Symmetrik) This High Ladida With Your Love (With Madam Bliss) Lost Funky Funky (With Danny Phr3ntic) Beatbox (Bootleg - original by Art of Noise) Breeze Running Out Of Time For More Gruv42 check out https://on.soundcloud.com/ZeXWcjMrrCzRvdEq7
Starlight Thursdays Episode 240 featuring J Michael Kober and an inside look behind his amazing sets. This mix is very indicative of what you'd hear me play out live. I like to start with some very accessible and groovy House music to get the dancefloor warmed up. I then build up the energy with some Tech House to get things a little dirtier before transitioning into some harder mainfloor Techno to finish out the set. Typical “take the audience on a journey” approach but my hope is that it keeps the crowd engaged and prevents my set from becoming too repetitive. I like this approach because it lets me play a little bit of everything from the subgenres I like and I put a lot of thought into building the setlist and finding those good transition tracks. I also don't want to be too locked into a rigid setlist so I have plenty of other tunes on standby so I can react on the fly to whatever vibe I'm getting from the crowd. My favorite thing, the main reason why I love DJing, is when I'm listening to new music, hearing something that really catches my ear and gets me thinking “I can't wait to see what happens when I play this out!” Then anticipating the upcoming show, dropping that track at the right moment of the night, and seeing everybody go mental… never gets old! - J Michael Kober Melodic -
Pinedrops invites Mumblebee for a back-to-back on his weekly show at Missoula community radio, 101.5 KFGM. Pinedrops' style ranges from ambient, to house, garage, UK bass, electro, techno, and the faster break-inspired genres. Mumblebee's chameleon-esque style of mixing, blending well with whatever is thrown their way, certainly complements the show's vibe. The two DJs dive deep to explore percussion and deep dance tracks. Starlight Thursdays Episode 238 Featuring a live recording of Born aGreen. My first set at a club and I couldn't be happier that it was at Monk's. I've been a part of so many great events here and now I get to be the DJ. I hit record a few minutes late but I got most of it. It's not perfect but I had a lot of fun and I'm happy with the set overall. Thanks for listening. -Born aGreen-
Starlight Thursdays Episode 237 Featuring MumbleBee recorded live at Back Woods Beats Halloween Bash on 10/25/24. What a fire set they played. We never stoped dancing. Back Woods Beats provided a great vide and on point lighting. What a fun party! -BK Love-
Starlight Thursdays Episode 236 Featuring BK Love recorded live at Funky Town, Burning Man 2024. What an Honer it is to DJ at such an amazing camp. Funky Town has gone above and beyond, building a massive sound camp with major upgrades unique to this year's burn. The sound system was next level and as always the placement at the edge of the city facing the open dessert is truly awe inspiring. I chose a selection of music from all over the world, blending house with melodic techno and focusing on beautiful instruments and vocals. This mix brings me right back to that unforgettable moment where I got lost in the music and nothing else mattered. BK Love
Starlight Thursdays Episode 235 Featuring Red Velvet and Forrest B2B recorded live at Funky Town, Burning Man 2024. This is the first time I've heard this talented couple DJ side by side and what a blast it was. Their styles and tase in music flow beautifully together. Get ready for some big thumping beats, from groves to booty shaking house bangers sure to keep you on your feet. -BK Love-
Starlight Thursdays Episode 234 welcome Dojous to the series with his live recording form Burning Man 2024 at camp Funky Town. How long have you been DJing? About 2 years. Why did you get into it? Was always a behind the scenes guy and so many respected friends are so darn good at it I finally had to give it a try. What events have you played? This year at the Burn was my first event I officially had a set at. I usually hop on with friends at Funk Your Burn or other house parties in Helena and Missoula to get some reps. This is the first time I actually curated a set from scratch and put it all together and played it etc. Where do you live (generally)? Bozeman, MT Where are you from originally? Los Angeles, CA What inspires you to DJ? The desire to have more things in common with my friends. The challenge of learning something new and difficult and so rewarding. The love and importance of live music at parties with my friends What inspires you about electronic music culture? Creating platforms for other artists to grow as well as supporting my friends who are artists. What genres are in your mix? Ambient, Indie-Dance, Deep House, Electronica, Melodic House & Techno, Downtempo Can you tell us a little bit about this mix? Wanted to really play some songs and styles I enjoy that would go well with the chill vibes of Monday night at Burning Man. Lower bpm, more ethereal and dreamy, almost emo electronica to let everyones ears rest up for the sonic onslaught that they were about to endure…Wasn't expecting a party or crowd so went with some more downtempo music to ease everyone into the week and play some stuff I rarely hear at FunkyTown. After a hellacious build was also perfect for the mood of most of our campers as we were all already tired from days of building and camping out in the desert. Huge thanks to BK for actually recording this set. Had no idea it would be recorded and it's been one of the best gifts to actually listen to it back again. I was so tired the night I played it I barely even remember the experience but this really helps! -Dojous- For more Dojous check out https://soundcloud.com/dojous
Starlight Thursdays Episode 233 Cale Sassano formerly known as Birks is back with another fire House mix. From bumping to melodic this one is sure to keep you on your feet, moving and grooving to the beat!
This was such an unforgettable moment of my burn. Unitopia did a fantastic job putting together a glow party and it was such an honor to get to DJ. So many of my friend made it out and danced with me while I mixed some of my favorite tracks from around the world. -BK Love-
Starlight Thursdays Episode 231. When young PricRight is accidentally left behind while his family heads off on vacation, he seizes the opportunity to turn his home into the ultimate dance party. Instead of setting up traps for burglars, he rigs his DJ gear and speakers, blasting catchy beats that echo through the house. As two bumbling burglars try to break in, they're met with an unexpected rave that distracts them at every turn. With every track, PricRight keeps the energy high, using his dance moves to outsmart the thieves and keep the party going. Can he protect the house and keep the vibes alive, all while learning the value of family? You'll have to tune in to find out more. Let the beats drop and the fun begin!
Starlight Thursdays Episode 230 Welcome ‘98 Romantique to the series. ‘98 Romantique was born from two lovers who share an overwhelming passion for really fucking good music. With a matched experience of producing and djing for over 15 years, the couple came together with the desire to play their most coveted tracks for people who love to dance. This mix is part of what we played live from one of our Rendez-vous nights in early summer this year. It's a collection of House, Disco, and French Touch tracks -‘98 Romantique-
Episode 229 Welcome LVCKY 13 to the series with this fire Drum and Bass mix. Let's take a closer look into LVCKY 13 How long have you been DJing? * 2 Years Why did you get into it? * Inadvertently via production. I was a techy kid growing up. I liked building and tinkering with electronics. I liked building computers, gaming, scripting, etc. Got into some robotics/programming in high school. I studied Electrical and Computer Engineering in college. It's all rather cumulative. I just had a DAW and liked messing around, creating sounds, mini songs, mini mixes (like big booty type stuff), etc during COVID. I then met my current significant other Caitlyn, and she introduced me to the world of festivals, raving, and DJ's. I was really only exposed to one side of the bigger picture. I loved the music these people made, the sounds they came up with, studios they worked in, gear they used etc. I wasn't a raver. There wasn't a scene like that where i came from and where I grew up. So the raves and festivals and stuff was all super foreign, but once I saw the other half of the puzzle, I was like “Damn, this is pretty Rad” What events have you played? * Everland Music Festival * The Underground at Club Zebra Where do you live (generally)? * Bozeman, MT Where are you from originally? * Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania What inspires you about electronic music culture? * It transcends language (like 85% of the time haha). But you and I don't have to speak the same language to dance to a beat at the same rhythm which each other. I love that we can share an experience simultaneously with someone and speak no words, but be fully on the same wavelength together. It's pretty neat. I'm an audiofile too so hearing the best crafted tunes on the best quality speaker systems is super enjoyable. I also like to think the pillars and foundations of the EDM community are pretty cool because it seems people actively try to be outwardly kind and considerate to each other which promotes a good place for people to come hang and enjoy the music. What genres are in your mix? * Drum and Bass (Dancefloor, Neurofunk, Darkstep, Jump-Up) Can you tell us a little bit about your mix? * This is a through and through Drum and Bass mix. 174 from start to finish. I've seen the shift in sets and energy over the past couple years in DJ sets and I really have been excited seeing DnB grow within the U.S Scene. Artists dropping big time edits in sets, collabs across genres with artists, and even just tours/availability for big shows. This set is my take on just a few of the best tracks mixed with some of my personal faves. It's littered with classics old and new, edits and flips from artists big and small on soundcloud, and even a couple of my own tracks in there. I love the energy and pace DnB has, and it has such a rich extensive history to the music and breaks/beats that form it. I wanted to play a fun set highlighting the essence of DnB and what I think the Genre is and how it's intended to be spun. Thanks for listening and I hope you enjoy the set
This is a live recording from our Sunrise set at the Montana regional Burn.
Starlight Thursdays Episode 225. We're thrilled to Import Art Van Delay's export to the series. He's recently moved to Montana from Las Vegas, Not that there's anything wrong with that… And people need to know the truth,so apparently we're doing an interview. How long have you been DJing? My entire life Nobody is going to be leave that. I mean what are you gonna say when someone asks why you decided to be a DJ? Well, let me tell you, it's not like I woke up one day and said, "Hey, Art, you know what would be great? Standing in front of a bunch of people and pretending to be cooler than you actually are." No, no. It started out small. I was always that guy who made the mixtapes for road trips, you know? Friends would say, "Art, you have impeccable taste in music," and I'd think, "Yeah, I do, don't I?" Then, one thing led to another. Someone at a party handed me the auxiliary cord. Hold on an Auxiliary cord Come on George. ART its ART! We Gotta Stick To The Story!!!! I'm getting angry!!! Yes, Jerry an Auxiliary cord and boom, I was in control. It was like being the maestro of social interaction. People danced! They actually danced because of me! I thought, "Art, you've found your calling. You're not just a guy who lives with his parents; you're a master of ceremonies, a purveyor of beats, a DJ!" So, here I am, spinnin records, making people move, and thinking, "Maybe this is what you were meant to do all along." It's a delicate balance, like a TV episode—awkward, hilarious, but somehow it just works. Gorge, I mean Art, A maser of ceremonies? But you are a guy who lives with his parents. I mean where have you even been DJing? We'llllll Jerrrry it just so happens I've been DJing at Soup nazi's beats & eats, Festivus fest, Serenity Now! Campout, Electric Kramer Carnival and Crystal Mountain 2024 Art at least half of those festivals you made up. What if someone looks into this. There going to know… Nobody looks into this stuff it happens all the time Jerry. These days DJs just make up social media pages with a bunch of photos with hot women and boom next thing you know off to Spain in a privet jet. I don't think that's how it works George. ART! So you mean to tell me people are supposed to believe you're originally from Detroit, you DJ festivals under the name Art Van Delay and what are you going to tell them when they ask what inspired you to do that? Inspiration? HA! Let me tell you about inspiration. You know that feeling when you find the perfect parking spot right in front of your building? That's what DJing is like for me. It's a moment of pure, unadulterated victory. So Art, what's the deal with this electronic music culture stuff anyway, I mean it's music and its culture, I just don't understand? Okay Jerry, It's all about the freedom, the energy, and sheer unpredictability. First off, the people. You've got all these folks from different walks of life, coming together in this crazy, pulsating environment. It's like a big, dysfunctional family reunion, but with better music and less judgment. You look around, and everyone's just there to have a good time, to escape the mundane, to dance like Elaine without anyone caring. Then, there's the music itself. It's like this endless buffet of sounds and beats. You never know what you're gonna get, but somehow it all works. It's like the electronic music gods decided, "Hey, let's throw a little bit of this, a little bit of that," Yada Yada and boom! You've got a masterpiece. It's chaotic, it's beautiful, it's… well, it's life Jerry And the technology! The gear, the lights, the visuals—it's like living in the future. Who wouldn't be inspired by that? So, yeah, electronic music culture inspires me because it's a wild, unpredictable ride, just like a day in my life. It's about finding those moments of joy and letting loose, and in the end, isn't that what we're all looking for? For More Art Van Delay check out https://soundcloud.com/djartvandelay
Starlight Thursdays Episode 226 featuring SPACE CHUNK in this live recording from his afternoon set at Everland Music Festival 2024. This was my first time playing at Falcons Roost and it was the first Everland event so I really wasn't sure what to expect coming into it. I was scheduled to play a set at 2pm and 2am and was really excited to lean into the contrast between those set times. I planned out a late night set that was pretty high energy and heavy, so I wanted to take the opportunity to play some chiller funky stuff for the afternoon. To be honest I was a little worried what I wanted to play would be TOO chill, I'm sure we've all been to those events where it's dubstep heaters from 11am onwards and while I love that energy a chill liquid dnb set right in the middle of that would be pretty clunky. Everland was an absolute vibe though and I felt like I had total freedom in what I got to play. Something about camping out in the woods and playing in a mountain meadow really opens up the music possibilities - I heard a huge range of sounds from all the DJs that weekend, so big ups Everland/Starlight crew for facilitating that. Also as a DnB artist I love being at a house/techno forward event, I think it inspires a certain style of mixing where you can really play out a song. Anyways, I tried to capture a bit of that energy in my set. Basically I came in without much of a plan and just played out my favorite liquid funk tracks. Hope you enjoy! -SPACE CHUCK-
Starlight Thursdays Episodee 224. Welcome NOMOREDEATH to the series and get ready for some heavy hitting tracks. He's been behind the decks for the past 3 years as well as in the production studio. Let's get a closer look at the man behind the mix with this little interview. Why did you get into it? Started DJing weddings and then started producing music. Started listening to EDM when I was 10. What events have you played? I have played a lot of proms and weddings. I have never played a show as NOMOREDEATH though. I want to start playing some with my own music. I am getting visuals created for songs as well. I hope to play the 406 edm festival next year. Where do you live (generally)? Missoula! Where are you from originally? Kalispell, MT What inspires you to DJ? I work a lot of events at the Kettlehouse and Adam's center. Having a real production for my music is a dream. I have a vision of what I'd want the future of my music to look like. What inspires you about electronic music culture? I love the willingness to collaborate, help each other, and discover new sounds. The amount of people who just want to have a good time and have fun with their friends is what gets me excited. Please tell us a little bit about this mix? This bass house mix is a carefully curated journey through dark and gritty soundscapes, designed to captivate and energize listeners from start to finish. Starlight Thursdays Episode 223 Featuring a live recording of Nes Croft at Montopia. I played 4 improvised sets at Montopia. Each set got better and this one was my favorite. I used Beat DJ. The software I built for live improvisation. Each time I play I'm brainstorming for what new features I need for Beat DJ. Before this set I added a new feature to schedule sound deletions. I think that helped me sustain a nice flow. I was inspired by the sunrise set that Jason and his friends played at the Aire stage the day before. I started with that chill feeling and slowly progressed into faster rhythms. I've noticed my mental state significantly affects the quality of the music. Their good vibes definitely rubbed off on me! Overall I'm happy with how this set turned out. But still I feel like I'm at around 30% of the potential for what will become possible with Beat DJ. My goal to pursue music has shifted more into software development and helping other artists reach their full potential. If you want to try Beat DJ you can download it here https://www.soniare.net/beatdj?f=sc_aire And just shoot me an email if you want a demo of how it works! nes@soniare.net Thank you for listening!

Starlight Thursdays Episode 215 Welcome Mr Matthew to the series! Originally from northern Georgia he made the move to Montana around 10 years ago. After going to a small house party entertained by a dj he fell in love with mixing and knew what he wanted to get into. His passion for this culture and our community stood out to me. I invited him to join the Starlight Reunion admin team shortly after we got to know each other. He has so much ambition to not only throw parties but inspire safe spaces to let loose in. I'm beyond overjoyed to share this recording of his. Not only is it the first in our series, but it's also the first recording he's made public. You may have heard him play at Bassmonsters , FC5, Montambhla/CMMF and the club nights at the Zebra and Monks. If not you'll have the chance to catch him live at Montopia or his passion project Everland. He's gone above and beyond booking shows for our resident artists and community. This summer is looking absolutely stacked and we owe a bunch of that to Mr Matthew. -BK Love- DJing and dance parties are very therapeutic to me. It's how I managed getting through my divorce. It led me to my true soulmate. Knowing the connections that are being made and the happiness being spread while I play is so rewarding and fulfilling. I love being part of the SR fam and what we represent. Super excited to see where we are in 5 years as a whole. There is so much going on in the group! I couldnt be more proud of all the folks that are a part of our crew! It's been busy times for our group, proud to see it coming together. Starlight is really helping expand my music opportunities and skill set and im truly grateful. The access to knowledge, gear, and connections has been priceless and just want you to know theres a reason ive been wearing my SR shirt every time i play, I'm so proud of that logo, what it represents and who is part of it. It's like a badge of honor. Hope you enjoy this mix and looking forward to seeing y'all on the dance floor. - Mr Matthew -
