Paul Lyon's ceramic art has always been influenced by nature and the textures found in our environment. Paul is consistently intrigued by the numerous imprints objects can leave in his clay forms. Paul's inspiration comes from rocks, wooden tools, handmade poking sticks, stamps, and his all time favorite... his daughter’s beads. Paul is continually experimenting with throwing forms on the potters wheel and then manipulating the clay. Currently Paul is investigating the affects of gravity on his blue glaze and how it puddles and pulls over the textures he has created. Paul is amazed how it can transform into a one of a kind unique creation, imitating nature.
After an amazing discussion about saddle height with Paul Swift in Episode 3, I wanted to dive into Paul's rich history in bike fitting. Even beyond his illustrious cycling career, he managed to start a bike fitting company from the ground up and traversed an amazing journey through the history of bike fitting. The path began with adapting his pedals and shoes by hand to accommodate a leg length discrepancy during his racing career in the early 80s and now 40 years later, he continues to travel the world teaching fitters how to help cyclists enjoy their passion to the fullest extent. Ep. 14 explores the passion, drive, and persistence of a bike fitting pioneer and a man who wants to eliminate cycling pain and discomfort for every enthusiast. Welcome to this weeks bonus episode of the podcast! My guest this week was Paul Ryan, guitar player that formed Kansas based Tech-Death band Origin. Paul came on the podcast to discuss the “Origins of Origin” (yes pun somewhat intended) He takes me through the early days of the band and the recordings that were Origin before it was even given that name. Currently Paul has re-recorded all the material from that time period, its called "Abiogenesis - A Coming Into Existence" on May 3rd worldwide via Agonia Records. Revisit the Origins of ORIGIN with the new single "Mind Asylum": the pre-ORIGIN era, never-before released track! "Abiogenesis - A Coming Into Existence" was recorded and recreated from the original 1991-1996 era that preceded ORIGIN's official formation. The album features never-before released tracks, that laid foundations to one of America's top death metal purveyors. The tracks on "Abiogensis" were recreated to the best of his ability, by founding ORIGIN member & mastermind Paul Ryan, who recorded all instruments himself, between 2013 and 2018. Create New Futures | How Leaders Produce Breakthroughs and Transform the World through Conversation
My guest for this conversation is Paul Werner. Paul is a 25-year veteran of the tech industry with successful and proven leadership experience in large and mid-cap technology companies serving global customers. Currently Paul serves as the Vice President of Sales for the Western U.S. at F5 Networks — a security and application delivery company. In this conversation, Paul shares the essential focus that enables him to produce sustained success. We explore how to create holistic balance when you are leading a competitive Career, and Paul reflects on the attributes of great salespeople, and the leadership philosophy he applies to promote the best in people. How do you create sustained success? Carving time to rejuvenate is critical to achieving high performance. One way to rejuvenate is to focus on a singular activity that shuts out the noise. “My development came from immersive experience with strong leaders.” Finding strong leaders as mentors can make a huge difference. “Getting to know each member on my team, and connecting at a human level, is how I succeed.” The clues for career development are often right in front of you. In Paul’s case the clue was: “I was doing most of the selling, and the salespeople were making most of the money, and so I realized I should try sales.” The most successful salespeople are truly curious, are disciplined and organized. These attributes make great salespeople: Curiosity: inquire deeply to understand Discipline: show up organized consistently Engagement: Pull on all organizational assets Drive: demonstrate innate desire to be successful If you embrace the fractal idea, where the atomic structure reflects and mirrors the galaxies around, framed in the scripture with the idea that man and woman are made in the image of God, and that As Above, So Below — then if the universe is made of three quarters of unrealized potential then you and I too are only accessing a small part of our potential. So, how would you build Stonehenge today? We're asking expert builder and craftsman Paul Dimeo and blacksmith Carley Eisenberg. Stonehenge is probably the most famous prehistoric monument in the world. What seems to have started as an earthwork enclosure, it developed into the ring of stones that is highly recognizable by architecture and history geeks alike. So how did the Neolithic people build Stonehenge? It's a topic that has been discussed and discussed. We're fascinated by the engineering feats and organizational achievements that went into setting the stones. But more than that, we're curious how we could build it today. Here are the challenges: 1) Dig the ditch, about 320 feet in diameter. It is about 20 feet wide and about 5 or more feet deep. 2 ) Transport 25-ton sarsen stones, which are a type of sandstone, about 20 miles. 3) Transport 2- to 5-ton bluestones about 250 miles. 4) Work the stones into shape. 5) Create mortise and tenons to fit the upright stones to the lintels. 6) Erect the sarsen and bluestones into a monument Paul Dimeo is best known as the carpenter on ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Paul began his interest in home renovation when he was five years old, after his family's home was destroyed by fire. Currently Paul can be seen on National Geographic's 'Building Wild.' Carley Eisenberg recently appeared on Ellen's Design Challenge on HGTV, sharing his innovative design abilities with her on-camera partner Jeff Devlin. Carley is a blacksmith with a master's degree in furniture design, and has a forge where she fashions everything from hooks to trowels.
