Imagine sitting behind bars for a crime you didn't commit, feeling the weight of the world's indifference on your shoulders. This is the stark reality we confront alongside Osagie Okuruwa of The Innocent Convicts, and Lynn Currier of Skweda Solutions, as they share their relentless pursuit of justice for the wrongfully imprisoned. We delve into the harrowing journeys of Jonas Francisque and David Yarde—two men entangled in a system reluctant to admit its errors. Their stories, marred by withheld evidence and retaliatory prison measures, are a sobering reminder of the significant work that lies ahead in the fight against wrongful convictions.Witness the intricate web of systemic issues contributing to these grave injustices, as our discussion broadens to uncover startling statistics and the profound impacts of racial disparities. You'll hear about the 'boys club' that shields the guilty, the power dynamics that undermine truth, and the courageous efforts to give the silenced a voice. We unravel the case of David, framed for a crime while the actual perpetrator, shielded by corrupt ties, walks free. The conversation extends to the psychological impacts of wrongful incarceration, emphasizing the dire need for legal representation and the often rocky road to reintegration. The final part of the episode reminds us that the pursuit of justice is as much about the heart as it is about the law. Through personal stories and heartfelt expressions, we see how cultural backgrounds shape the strategies used to combat injustice. From Lynn's vigorous advocacy to Osagie's composed, culturally rooted approach, we explore the multifaceted nature of activism and invite you to join the conversation. Your voice is crucial in the movement for a more equitable justice system, and we're here to tell you that every act of support brings us closer to that horizon.Find Mia On Social Media here.Listen and subscribe to the podcast: Apple Podcasts | Spotify

In this episode I am talking to David Yarde, a multitalented Jamaican born digital creator who lets us in on his secret struggles with being a Jamaican living in the diaspora, working in non-traditional spaces with all the attendant stereotypes all the while battling depression and trying to overcome childhood trauma.  It was an unexpected foray into the mind of an introverted creative who has to navigate awkward and sometimes unfriendly spaces, especially when those unfriendly spaces are in the home.  I also opened up about my struggles with mental health, how it affects my work and developing healthy coping mechanisms,  Find links to things mentioned during this episode on the blog and follow the show on our social media pages on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, If you liked this episode please download, subscribe, leave a review and share.

“ the things you do should add to your purpose “ David Yarde (@thedsmy ) seems like a jack of all trades when you first listen to his list of accomplishments and skills. Under further investigation you can understand that he is simply living life based around a set of principles and values David struggled with a lot of the normal childhood challenges we have all faced at some point in time in our life. Whether that was getting into programming and design, not as cool and popular when he was growing up, or getting bullied for not doing what everyone else was doing. He unknowingly developed a valuable skill that has a direct impact on not only his own success but others, blocking out the noise. With everyone being a guru and the big push to develop your own brand its hard to decide what and who to listen to. Where should I spend my time? What strategy should I use? “Its east to listen to everyone and become confused on what to do next”  David recommends tuning almost everyone out and look for those who want to work together to build something great After getting a job in sale he quickly realized he wanted to get back what he enjoyed and that design. Always working on or towards things he loves, that he really has the heart for is one of the things David gives credit for his consistency over the years. Even working on something you have a deep passion for can get redundant and the ideas can stop flowing. When that happens get outside if not outdoors at least outside of your normal projects and surroundings to inspire new creativity. We all have many ideas that can be great ideas in their own right but you have to remain focused. Work on your main focus until completion before taking on too much. David is a great business mind who's historical track record speaks for its self. DOPEamine | Mental Health Support For Creative Professionals

Today I spoke to David Yarde, graphic designer and business owner who spent some time in the corporate world before realizing he'd rather have his own business. He brings up a good point that while many people may see the corporate world as more stable, it's often the other way around, at least for creatives, because your fate is in someone else's hands. He works with his wife, so we spoke a bit about that dynamic as well as taking time to be healthy and not overworking yourself. Lots of great insight from David! This week's interview is with David Yarde, a web designer and developer, and co-founder of the creative strategy and branding firm Sevenality. We talked a little bit about branding, discussed which brands are getting it right (and which aren't!) and talked about how to succeed being an introverted person of color, and how that can be misconstrued. David is a prime example of someone who has used design to change his life, and I think you'll really be inspired by his story and his advice for young designers.
