Workers hired under the Trump administration's Tech Force program are gradually making their way into the government. About 200 people have been hired so far, and onboarding began over the past couple of weeks, Tech Force Director Kevin Hennecken told an audience gathered in a meeting room within the U.S. Capitol Visitor's Center on Wednesday. He estimated about 10 people have been onboarded and expects that to be over 100 next month. The goal, he said, is to have about 300 to 500 workers by the end of summer. “Going from hiring to onboarding in the government can take a little bit of time,” Hennecken said. “We're moving as fast as we can.” Immigration and Customs Enforcement is spending more than five times what it did last year on a single vendor's identity verification technology, according to procurement documents published this month. The Massachusetts-based, venture capital-backed vendor will supply ICE agents with an additional batch of 1,570 iris-scanning devices. The handheld devices are wireless and connect to BI2 Technologies' Inmate Identification and Recognition System, which provides access to 5 million-plus booking records, including arrest and incarceration data from 47 states. In today's Cloud Wars Minute, I break down why Workday sees agentic AI as the key to defending its 80 million-user base. Highlights 00:02 — Workday co-founder Aneel Bhusri resumed his position as CEO. He wanted to help guide the company through the AI Revolution and help bring a solid knowledge of what's happening and how Workday as a company has to be able to innovate and create and get with the AI-native program as rapidly as possible. 00:45 — It's got to be able to move fast, and the margin for error is slight. The Q1 results, which came out last week, I think prove that Bhusri's got the company on the right track. Subscription revenue up 14.3%, almost $2.4 billion. Their total subscription revenue backlog was up 11% to over $27 billion. 01:23 — It's now got 80 million users under contract. Now, the good and the bad of that is those are 80 million users who are heavily dependent right now on yesterday's technology. So, the good thing for Workday is they've got these 80 million users, and Workday's got the first shot at converting them. 02:23 — Bhusri said, “In technology transitions — and I'm old enough to have lived through a few of them — you have to put that new technology front and center. It's got to be your absolute top priority in everything you do.” 03:38 — Bhusri said customers seem to want to have both open technology and the ability to use agents from lots of vendors, but they've also got to ensure that they've got the proper guardrails for compliance and legal compliance, and ensuring the privacy and safety of their customers. He also said it's really important for Workday to reinstitute and reinvigorate a startup mentality. 04:48 — So, Aneel Bhusri is one of the good guys in the tech industry. He's been around a long time. His return here, I called him back in February “the reluctant CEO,” because he was eager a few years ago to get out of the CEO role, but he knows now that with what's going on in the market and this vast change of technology brought forth by AI, he needed to be CEO. During the Pentagon press briefing alongside Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth described the two-week ceasefire with Iran as the result of a decisive U.S. military campaign. He stated, “Operation Epic Fury was a historic and overwhelming victory on the battlefield — a capital-V military victory,” claiming it decimated Iran's missile program, navy, and defense industry, rendering its military “combat-ineffective for years to come.” Hegseth added that “Iran begged for this ceasefire, and we all know it,” asserting the regime was “out of options and out of time.” He emphasized that U.S. forces are “not going anywhere,” saying “we'll be hanging around” in the region to monitor compliance, ensure that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon, and remain “prepared to defend, prepared to go on offense,” and “restart at a moment's notice” if the truce fails. Hegseth noted that “it takes time sometimes for ceasefires to take hold” and framed the pause as giving “a chance at real peace and a real deal,” while praising President Trump for choosing “mercy” instead of further crippling Iran's economy. Anthropic's $50 billion commitment for data-center construction projects in New York and Texas still made it on a list of investments the Trump White House said it helped secure, despite an ongoing feud between the company and the U.S. government. That tally, which was posted in a release online Sunday and emailed Monday, listed Anthropic's commitment among dozens of other private-sector investments related to American manufacturing, energy, and AI infrastructure projects that companies have announced during President Donald Trump's second term. Other investments on that list include those from Apple, Meta, Nvidia and Amazon. Anthropic's inclusion comes after a disagreement between the AI company and the Pentagon over guardrails for using its technology culminated in a governmentwide ban against the company and the DOD's determination that it's a “supply-chain risk.” Ironically, the White House release introduces the list with a statement that companies are moving to “strengthen domestic supply chains,” among other things. FedScoop contacted spokespeople at the White House and Anthropic, but neither provided comment before publication of this story. Anthropic's partner on the project, Fluidstack, didn't respond to a FedScoop request for comment. The Senate on Tuesday voted to confirm Army Lt. Gen. Joshua Rudd as commander of U.S. Cyber Command and director of the NSA, ending nearly a year of leadership uncertainty at the agencies and putting a new chief at the helm amid an ongoing war with Iran. Rudd, who previously served as deputy commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and worked in the special operations community, was nominated in December by President Donald Trump for the dual-hat role of Cybercom and NSA boss, despite having a limited cyber background. In April 2025, the Trump administration fired Air Force Gen. Timothy Haugh as head of those organizations without providing a public explanation. Since then, Cybercom and NSA have been led by Army Lt. Gen. William Hartman, who stepped in as acting director. Hartman was ultimately passed over to hold the roles on a Senate-confirmed basis. Rudd, who will pin on his fourth star following his confirmation, is entering the job as Cybercom supports U.S. military action against Iran during Operation Epic Fury. The command also played a support role in Operation Midnight Hammer against Iran last year and Operation Absolute Resolve in Venezuela in January, which included the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro in Caracas. In addition to assisting other combatant commands and the joint force, the organization is tasked with conducting so-called “hunt forward” operations on overseas networks, defending the Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN), and bolstering America's ability to resist and respond to cyberattacks.
