For a LONG time I didn't pay much attention my branding because of 2 reasons: #1 - I thought it had little to no impact on my sales. ❌WRONG❌ #2 - I didn't really UNDERSTAND how to brand myself to attract high-caliber clients.
In this episode of the Post Status Happiness Hour, host Michelle Frechette chats with Adam Warner, GoDaddy's Director of Field Marketing. Adam discusses GoDaddy's latest tools, including the Site Optimizer for enhancing SEO and the AI-powered market research tool for client management. The conversation highlights GoDaddy's commitment to the WordPress community and upcoming developments.Top Takeaways:GoDaddy Airo is an AI-Powered Productivity Boost for Web Professionals: GoDaddy Airo offers a suite of tools designed to help web designers and developers (a.k.a. “web dnds”) save time and improve quality. It helps with tasks like writing copy, generating SEO meta descriptions, creating alt text for images, and performing overall site optimization. The Site Optimizer Ensures Strong SEO and Accessibility Foundations: The Site Optimizer tool scans pages for SEO opportunities and accessibility issues—like missing alt text—and provides automatic or manual suggestions to improve them. It covers headline hierarchy, content structure, social sharing cards, and more.Client Management is Streamlined with Built-In Tools and AI-Generated Market Research: Each client entry includes a simplified project/task list covering everything from discovery to site launch and maintenance. This is such a good question and one that I took for granted in many ways, since I've seen how all these skills and roles overlap and connect within many client projects. My first recommendation is that instead of thinking of them as people, think about them as unique skill sets. So you might have someone who is a Web Developer/Web Designer hybrid. Or a Web Developer who also has SEO skills. There can definitely be cross over between each of these roles. Also, you might have someone who is a super technical Web Developer, but they aren't thinking about the overall strategy of how those changes on their website are going to help them reach their business goals. Whoever you hire, make sure you are clear on the role they play in terms of them understanding your business and how you make money. If you have a specific technical job that you need, of course you can hire someone to just do that. Having a strategic mind on your team, can ensure you are focusing on the right things at the right time and in the right order. I'm Brad Frost, a design system consultant, web designer, speaker, writer, musician, and artist located in beautiful Pittsburgh, PA. I wrote a book called Atomic Design, which covers all that goes into creating and maintaining effective design systems.
Recently, my friend Shannon Mattern interviewed me on her The Profitable Web Designer podcast all about what's working well for web designers killing it in 2025.She's kindly offered to let me repurpose the whole convo for you! It's a bit of a 2-parter with part 1 being all about becoming more than just a web designer for clients, but a growth partner for bigger MRR (monthly recurring revenue)Part 2 covers more of what I went through in pivoting from selling information to selling transformation. Very parallel to web designers moving from selling a nice website design to selling a high-converting sales tool for clients. All the same lessons apply.Enjoy!
Subscriber-only episodeDo you remember your first year in business as a web designer? Are you there now?One thing is common for all of us in the first year…it's a rollercoaster of highs and lows, ups and downs, incredible days and perhaps dreadful days. But if you can survive that first year, chances are you're going to make it.I'm so excited to bring onto the podcast Megan Fletcher who just crossed her first year official year in business and at the same time, had her biggest revenue month to date pulling in over 8k!She's now got her sights set on a 6-figure business and has an incredible foundation to get there in year 2.In this chat, she shares all her lessons learned (both good and bad) from the first year of her business and most importantly, how she weathered a couple storms and got through the tough times. As a member of my community Web Designer Pro, I have to say these success stories are some of my favorites because I often see all the challenges, hardships and coach members when they're in the thick of it…but I know there's always a brighter future right ahead if they just stick with it!! And that's exactly what Megan has done.Enjoy!Head to the show notes to get all links and resources we mentioned along with a full transcription of this episode at joshhall.co/377Big thanks to the sponsors for our upcoming Web Designer Pro CON 2025 event! Web designers do a lot more than just web design…It's not uncommon for us to be graphic and brand designers, photographers, strategists, copywriters, etc…So, should we call ourselves more than just a web designer?Award winning branding and design studio founder Jacob Cass, who's worked with Disney, Nintendo and Jerry Seinfeld, has done it all and has some invaluable experience and perspective to share when it comes to how web designers can position themselves nowadays. One of the many things I learned from talking with Jacob is – if you position yourself in a way that's right for you, you'll watch your revenue climb, you'll attract better clients and enjoy your work more.Head to the show notes to get all links and resources we mentioned along with a full transcription of this episode at joshhall.co/376
There's nothing better than talking to a web designer who's enjoying their work, loving their clients, making good money and who's just all around thriving. And that's why I'm pumped to share this recent convo I had with Kristin Adkins of Crash Design Co who's found a suite niche by becoming the trusted “web designer for speakers”Kristin was on the podcast (ep 143) when she had just gone full time and I thought it was a good time to catch up because now, 5 years later, she's grown her business, nailed her niche and continues to love every minute of it. A lot of web designers get burned out, take too much on or have goals that lead to stress and growth pains but Kristin's done it right by building a business around her lifestyle goals and mid-west pace. This was a hard one to title because we get into everything from:NichingScaling/hiringBuilding a referral networkRaising ratesSticking with Elementor (and not having shiny object syndrome)The value of sending clients “website launch packs”And so much more. But it's all the things that have led to her having an amazing first 5 years so that's what we get into in this one.P.S. Wouldn't it be cool to see her website launch pack examples and process? Kristin will be doing a special guest training inside Web Designer Pro™ this summer so jump on in to connect with her!Head to the show notes to get all links and resources we mentioned along with a full transcription of this episode at joshhall.co/375

An unexpected topic of conversation I've consistently had over the last couple years when coaching members of my community Web Designer Pro privately is around managing ADHD and running a web design business. When thinking about ADHD, I'm probably not alone in immediately jumping to the visual of the wild 7 year old kid who can't sit down in class. But since the conversation around this has become more prevalent for me both personally in my coaching DM's and in the web design community at large via other forums or groups I check into, I wanted to dig into what this looks like practically for adults running a web design business.Since this is a sensitive topic, I wanted to chat with someone who I could level with and learn from versus being educated from an “ADHD Coach” per say. That's why I'm dang pumped about sharing my recent convo with my old friend (literally, we were doubles tennis partners in High School) Rob Chaplin. Rob and I reconnected a couple years back when he was considering jumping into a creative field like web design. Since then, he's been through all my courses, built up his freelance business and became a member of my community Web Designer pro.But in 2024, he let me know that he hit a wall…feeling disorganized, down, scattered and disoriented about how to move forward in business and in life. Now, many of these feelings are natural when you start a business, do something new or take on the common stresses of building something – but for Rob, it was more. After some self-research, he dipped his toe into pursuing ADHD treatment, most of which are behavioral and habitual and I have to say, I've seen a noticeable difference with his output and his overall energy and state. For all those reasons and more, I wanted to have an open chat about HIS experience and journey managing ADHD as a web designer and because he's so new in the journey and he's really passionate about sharing what's working for him.We dig into:The red flags that led him to research ADHDHow he started small and began making better progress in becoming more focused and productiveWhat tips, tricks and strategies he uses to help his ADHD (daily) nowHow creative fields like web design are actually ideal for folks on any spectrum of the ADHD scaleHow ADHD can actually be used in a very positive way with boundaries and constraintsAgain, this is purely an explorative chat for me to learn more about this world without judgement or preconceived notions.Disclaimer: Rob shares HIS journey, methods, strategies and medications that work for him but this is not medical advice or recommendation. See your doctor or consult with a professional before exploring any of the medications that are mentioned.Head to the show notes to get all links and resources we mentioned along with a full transcription of this episode at joshhall.co/364
No better way to kick off the year than to plan some new marketing strategies to get more leads and convert more clients, right?I honestly believe email marketing – along with some focused forms of content marketing – will be a HUGE differentiator for web designers who choose to go this route. Which is why I'm a big proponent and supporter of it.After all…as Abe Lincoln once wisely said “He who sendeth the email gets thine customer.”Now, you know I'm not going to just tell you to go “do something” without giving you a roadmap and some solid tips to help implement so, I'm thrilled to have copywriter, digital strategist and award-winning designer Michelle Martello on the podcast to share about all of that and more.Things we cover include:How to create your “content goldmine” for social, blog, newsletter and podcast contentThe power of having a newsletter in 2025How often to send emails and/or post on social mediaWhen content should be brief vs long formHow – coincidently or not – those who send more emails make more moneyAnd a whole lot more!Michelle's resume includes working with MTV, the National Park Service, Marie Forleo and more so she is truly an industry expert with years of experience backing her.Head to the show notes to get all links and resources we mentioned along with a full transcription of this episode at joshhall.co/361Get my entire suite of courses in the Courses Tier = $49/moGet courses + all community features in the Community Tier = $99/moGet everything + direct coaching with me in the Coaching Tier = $199/moJoin today (in the tier that works for you) at: webdesignerpro.com*** upgrade & downgrade available ***

We're doing a first for the podcast on this episode…I'm featuring a recent Web Designer Pro coaching call!If you didn't know, in my web design community Web Designer Pro, I host a live coaching call every week. These coaching calls typically include:Member website reviewsMember hot seats 10-15 min coaching sessions)And AMA (ask me anything) timeToday, I'm sharing a recent call that had some great topics of discussion with you to help you in all these areas in your business and to give you a glimpse of what's going on in Web Designer Pro.This session includes:A hot seat with Shannon, one of our OG members who's back and whose business is rockin' with managing 50+ maintenance clients. But she's had a slow last few months so we talked about proactive revenue growth strategies including a monthly newsletter, repurposing portfolio work for case studies, sprinkling in before/afters on social media and networking in personAngela has a full suite of services to help her wellness clients go from planning/strategy to design/building and to growth/marketing but the lines have been blurry between them all. We talked about how to draw very clear lines between the offers and how she can offer a “Business Plan Strategy” as a low ticket lead-in offer and put her “Growth Plan Strategy” into a 30-60 day, $1,000-$1,500 coaching sprint for her top clients who want a more intensive consult period.Freya whose excitement on sales calls is one of her strengths but clients don't always “nerd out” about the tools, tech and strategies like we do. So we came up with a good plan to avoid overwhelming clients by putting that excitement into the “results” that her clients are after then following up with an action plan (in phases) for ongoing work.Landon one of our youngest members of Pro just sent out a $2,800 proposal and wondered if it was too much…too little…confusing…not enough specifics?!? Well, considering Landon's just a few months into his biz, it's a great starting point and he'll continue to raise those rates as his offers become more clear. The proposal was super clear and succinct which is more than most of us can say that early on! Go Landon and let us know if they move forward. Again, great start. And I have an exciting update since this call…Landon LANDED that proposal!! Way to go dude. What a bunch of awesome PROS here.I sincerely hope you enjoy this coaching call and implement some of these takeaways and strategies. Again, this is the type of thing that's happening EVERY WEEK in Web Designer Pro and things are just getting more, as the kids say these days, LIT in Pro.Ready to join the fun? Fresh off of Jake's appearance on Josh's Web Design Business podcast, Josh makes a special appearance on our podcast diving deep into just how accessible starting a web design agency is.We never wanted to build websites. It was something we realized we had to do for our clients because, at its core, any campaign is only as successful as the landing page. Josh is different. Josh started out doing what he loved -- designing and building websites. He went on to write for Elegant Themes (the company responsible for the Divi visual builder in WordPress), scale his web design agency to over the 6-figure mark, sell it, and create courses on how to grow and scale a web design agency. We wanted to specifically talk to Josh, not just about his career, but how other people who don't know much about web design, can get started and add it as a service to their offering.----------------------------------If you haven't listened to Josh's podcast, you can check him out here:https://open.spotify.com/show/54Lw9cfbfIPLQvc7ANmMmL?si=8485028fdfe646baYou can also find him and his web design courses at joshhall.co.----------------------------------⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐As always, if you enjoyed this episode or this podcast in general and want to leave us a review or rating, head over to Apple and let us know what you like!
