We continue our sermon series titled Salt, centering our attention on the words of Jesus found in Matthew 6:1-4. In this week's podcast, Pastor Olu suggests that spiritual formation and missional practices are interrelated. In addition, discipleship to Jesus is about forming a posture rather than demanding a performance. He is also joined by Kelsie Johnson, the Director of Programs for DC127, as they dialogue around what it practically looks like to serve those among us who are historically and often overlooked.
To delve deeply enough into the Starblood Stalkers we have on the program CritMaster Supreme, John Wynne Rees. We discuss the faction, the faction specific cards, and how to play them in the current meta. Why can't Randall pronounce "Lords of Space and Time" correctly? It's a mystery. Aaron and Amy Graham have been planting churches and reaching cities for nearly two decades. After planting in Boston, they moved to Washington, DC to plant District Church -- a church with a commitment to doing justice in the nation's capital. District Church is remarkably diverse, with 74 nations and 49 states represented in its congregation. Aaron has been named one of Washingtonian Magazine's 40 under 40. Aaron and his wife Amy are both pastors as well as adoption and foster care advocates. They founded DC127 with the mission to unite churches to reverse the foster care wait list in DC. They live in Columbia Heights with their two adopted kids Elijah and Natalie.
On this episode of Good News For The City, we spoke with Pastor Aaron Graham and Shiri Yaldin of The District Church about the various ways the church is making an impact on the greater Washington DC region.Pastor Aaron GrahamAaron serves as the founder and lead pastor of The District Church. He leads the ColumbiaHeights parish as well as the church organizationally. Aaron has a heart for church planting, leadership development, and urban ministry. He is the co-founder of DC127 and serves as the board chair. Before moving to the District, Aaron started Quincy Street Missional Church in a low-income neighborhood of Boston where he served for five years. He received his bachelor's from the University of Richmond, master's at Harvard’s Kennedy School, and his doctorate at Fuller Theological Seminary. Aaron loves to be outdoors, to play basketball, to travel, and to cheer for DC sports teams. He lives in Columbia Heights with his wife Amy and their two children, Elijah and Natalie.Shiri YaldinShiri grew up in Southern California, but has called the East Coast home for the past 10 years. Her career started in direct social services, where she spent her days walking alongside people experiencing homelessness to build relationships and pursue wellness. It was these relationships that fueled Shiri’s desire to tackle the many injustices in her beloved new home of D.C., and eventually led her to study for a Masters in Public Policy at Georgetown University. While in graduate school, Shiri was involved in the TDC Housing Working Team, the group that eventually became Just Homes. Shiri joined the TDC staff in November of 2017 when the church officially launched Just Homes, to spearhead the formation and implementation of the new initiative. Shiri is a proud middle sister and pretty much always has a serious case of the travel bug. She has served as a small group leader and in various roles on the production team since joiningTDC in 2013. On most weekends you can find Shiri hiking, baking, closely following Englishsoccer, and getting far too attached to characters in young adult novels.

Blythe Scott has a passion is to see Christ's purposes furthered on this earth and to help mobilize and equip the Church to join Him in the “renewal of all things,” further redemption, and advocate for the vulnerable through politics and policy. Over the years, this passion has become focused on the intersection of faith and politics, and Blythe has spent much of her professional and personal life working in this arena. Her passion also led her to co-found Denver City Forum in the spring of 2017, which helps Christians engage – and engage well – with one another and with non-Christians on topics of politics, policy and culture in today's world. In this episode, Blythe talks about Denver City Forum and its mission in the city of Denver. She also shares what it feels like to be misunderstood in her dream, how she's dealt with that disappointment and offers suggestions, in case it happens with you and your dream. You will also learn the value of not overthinking your dream (which can stand in the way of getting started) and gain a helpful tip about a morning ritual to help curb your thinking so you can be more fruitful and Christ-centered in your day. In addition to City Forum, Blythe is a consultant for the faith-based education reform non-profit, The Expectations Project (TEP). Prior to TEP, Blythe was a Fellow at The Clapham Group, the Outreach Director for her church in Washington, DC (The District Church), and helped found DC127, a foster care non-profit focused on equipping, mobilizing, and uniting churches around foster care and adoption. Her passions also include reading, talking all things Narnia, all animals, trail running and exploring (or “runsploring”) her beautiful home state of Colorado and, most importantly, spending time with her amazing husband and baby girl (adopted in September of 2017)!
